Outgoing Sen. Rob Cowles, R-Green Bay, in an interview for WisPolitics's Capitol Chats podcast says while there's “definitely a danger” to breaking party lines, lawmakers can't be afraid to “lose a committee appointment because of your principles.” Cowles, the longest-serving Wisconsin state lawmaker currently in office, has been elected to the state Senate for the past 37 years since winning an April 1987 special election. Before that, he served in the Assembly from 1982-1987. He will retire next month after deciding not to seek reelection when he was drawn into a district with fellow Green Bay GOP Sen. Eric Wimberger. Cowles joined WisPolitics' Capitol Chats podcast to talk about his time in office, how the state of politics has changed over the course of his career, and his history of bucking party norms.

Two political bombshells in 24 hours in Wisconsin—first the Republican mayor of Waukesha, and now the Legislature's longest serving Republican, state Sen. Rob Cowles, endorses Democrat Kamala Harris in the presidential election. With the Presidential Election less than two weeks away, Mark invites Senator Rob Cowles in studio. Sen. Cowles talks about reinventing himself as he's coming to the end of his political career, having announced in April he will not be running for re-election effectively ending the longest-serving incumbent in the Wisconsin Legislature. He thanks his supporters over the years and his staffers that stayed with him. "I've had a good run and it was time for me. And I'm grateful to have, lucky to have good health..." "You have to accept the results. Peaceful transfer of power". With massive concern of the blowback this election could present to others in the Republican party, Sen. Cowles has thought long and hard about speaking up about the current election. Sen. Cowles says "protecting the constitution and our alliances, NATO, fighting Putin and remembering what we went through, what my family went through..." has led him to his decision of who to endorse. Some of God’s greatest miracles come when He brings good out of dark places. In Ogden, Utah, pastor Matt Roberts felt he didn’t feel comfortable inviting his friends and neighbors to church as it didn’t feel like a place where people could be vulnerable, so he decided to create an open community he thought they—and he—would feel like they belonged. When his former youth pastor, Rob Cowles, came for a visit, Rob knew The Genesis Project was something special and decided to plant his own location in Fort Collins, Colorado—in, of all places, a former strip club. Carrie Stuart Parks was a young woman with a flair for art when her father, the head of the School of Law Enforcement in northern Idaho, decided to invite Carrie to use her talents on crime scenes. Carrie became enamored with the work, helping victims close the chapter on some of the darkest moments of their lives. She even began a second career as a thriller novelist—not knowing her mentor was a wildly successful author himself—and work to help reach not knowing her mentor was a wildly successful author himself—now reaches the world through stories and emotions we all can relate to. It was such a cultural gap . . . " - Matt Roberts “That time in Portland was very monumental for us, really learning what it meant to be an embedded church in the middle of a culture that desperately needed a Savior.” - Matt Roberts “What does it mean to live bravely in the way of Jesus?” - Rob Cowles, on Gary Haugen “There was an authenticity about their worship [at The Genesis Project], because they really knew what it was to be brought back from darkness, brought back from death into new life.” - Rob Cowles “Community doesn't happen by accident. We have to actually cultivate and create a space where people can come in and be real, be open, and be honest.” - Matt Roberts “What happens is if you create a culture where it's not safe to talk about your brokenness, to talk about your failure, to talk about your pain, that then you naturally create a culture where you have to be fake.” - Rob Cowles “I pray that I will be salt and light to them as I speak to them. I wear a cross, I let them know, just by having that cross on the outside, where I'm coming from. I don't say anything to them. I just let the presence of that and my words be, hopefully, helpful.” - Carrie Stuart Parks ________________________ Enjoy these videos on Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio podcast: https://bit.ly/2uCnNM0 Original Series video podcast: https://bit.ly/2WzFY0O ________________________ Connect with Jesus Calling Instagram Facebook Twitter Pinterest YouTube Jesus Calling Website

Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Wisconsin Corn Growers Association, Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association and The Water Council thank Senator Rob Cowles and Representative Joel Kitchens for authoring the “Pollution Prevention Partnership – Wisconsin's Trading Marketplace” legislation (LRB-1244). The “Pollution Prevention Partnership – Wisconsin's Trading Marketplace” legislation will further encourage farmer participation and implementation of additional practices and technologies designed to reduce nonpoint source pollution by allowing for the private sector to develop an economically sustainable system for farmers, industry and municipalities to engage in cooperative efforts to reduce water pollution in Wisconsin. Pam Jahnke visited with Representative Kitchens about the legislation and how momentum is building on all water quality issues. Dr. Sara Place from the National Cattlemen's Beef Association highlights the difference between news headlines, what consumers say about plant based protein, versus what they DO at the grocery store.
