Born in San Diego, CA and spend my entire adolescent years rotating between San Diego and Montgomery, AL. (Divorced parents). I am married to Lynneice Washington and together we have four children, 1 son and three daughters. After High School I joined the United States Military where I served as a Combat Corpsman (Medic) in the United States Navy. During my time in the Navy I served in Combat in several conflicts including Operation Just Cause (Panama) Operation Desert Shield/Storm and Bosnia. While in the Navy I obtained my Paramedic Certification and my LPN degree. I was injured in a combat diving exercise in 1991 and in 1993 the Navy forced me out due to injuries. Because of difficulty finding a job as a nurse, I resorted to law enforcement starting in NY and then moving to Montgomery where I worked as a correctional Officer. From there I was hired as a nurse/medic in the Jefferson County Jail. After 3 years, Blue-Light fever struck and I returned to law enforcement and I've been here since 1998. I am a member of the Non-Profit Community First which was founded by Big Walter Wilson and Abdul Alwahid. The program focuses on educating youth from underserved communities to history of the South. Myself and Ms. Pamala Bass have also founded “The Genesis Project” which is a non-profit also focusing on educating our youth to a world outside of their communities. We also address sentences of people who were young when they were arrested, but still serving lengthy sentences that today they would not have received. We also are focused on closing the gap of misunderstanding and willful ignorance between police and citizens.
What better way to mark the 200th episode of Sounds Likes Comics than by boldly going where no podcast has gone before (we're pretty sure), by doing not just one, but three reviews - dubbed The Genesis Trilogy. This special episode celebrates the classic trilogy of Star Trek movies, 2 to 4, The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock, and The Voyage Home. Directed by Nicholas Meyer (Wrath of Khan) and Leonard Nimoy (The Search for Spock, The Voyage Home), these Star Trek films from 1982, 1984, and 1986, respectively, make up a trilogy that was never planned to be that way. At the core of these three films is the creation and ramifications of the Genesis Project, a device that can create life, and the death and return of Spock.

Welcome to our biggest episode yet! We can all agree sceners are a peculiar bunch, and our scene is a community like no other, juggling creativity and technical prowess, often even within the same individuals. What does it do with us to create, compete and socialise in this environment, and how can we take care of our own and others' wellbeing? We explore the psychology behind the demoscene, demoparties and demomaking with Tom, who does not just create amazing Atari-demos with Genesis Project, Effect and SMFX, but also lectures on Community Psychology at the University of Leeds. *Content note: In this episode, you will meet Jennifer Holmes, a mother who tragically lost her son, Genesis, in a drowning accident. This episode contains an emotional account of her traumatic experience, so please listen with care when you feel you are able to, as the content may be triggering for some listeners. If you are unable to listen but want to learn more, please visit the links below for more information on The Genesis Project. We are just about at the halfway point of Park and Recreation Month, and it has been so inspiring to see how many people are embracing the theme of “Our Park and Recreation Story” and sharing their heartfelt stories, memories and experiences related to parks and recreation. One story that caught our attention — and really moved a lot of us on NRPA staff — is that of Jennifer Holmes from Charleston County, South Carolina, and I'm honored to welcome her, as well as Gina Ellis-Strother, the chief administration officer for Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission (CCPRC), to the show today. In 2014, Jennifer's 13-year-old son, Genesis, tragically drowned in a local pond because he didn't know how to swim. After Genesis' drowning, the Genesis Project was established, which aims to raise funds to offer aquatic safety programs in rural areas of Charleston County, alongside CCPRC. Despite her grief and her own fear of water, Jennifer not only conquered her fears and learned to swim, she also volunteered with the Charleston County Parks Foundation to offer swim lessons and water safety instructions to rural areas of the community. What's more, when CCPRC opened the West County Aquatic Center in June 2019 in the same small town in which Genesis drowned, Jennifer was one of the lifeguards on duty. And, in keeping Genesis' spirit alive, the pool at the aquatic center is now named, “The Genesis Pool.” Tune in to the full episode to learn more about the incredible young man Genesis Holmes was, as well as how Jennifer has channeled her grief into ensuring other families in rural Charleston County don't have to experience the same loss she and her family experienced. You'll also learn: How Jennifer's faith and the support of her community gave her strength in a time of pain. How The Genesis Project is raising awareness and providing education about swim lessons and water safety. How CCPRC is addressing access to water safety resources and education in rural areas of Charleston County and meeting community members where they are. How Jennifer felt when she conquered her own fear of water and received her lifeguard certification. What the relationship between Jennifer and Gina has meant to each of them during this time, and more! Additional Resources: The Genesis Project Charleston County Parks Foundation

In this powerful podcast, Aaron Bekkela talks about the difficult decision he made to leave a family business weighted with obligation and expectations to follow the pull of his heart strings. Being born into a family business that owned and operated several strip clubs, Aaron struggled with the addiction, darkness and pain that was ever-present in the industry and made the life changing decision to sell the business and see it come to life as a church and community resource center. How Aaron’s heart led him to obtain his degree and become a Licensed Addiction Counselor and Clinical Director of a teen residential treatment center serves as a testament to the power of making decisions that ultimately change the course of not one, but many lives. For more information about the former strip club turned church, contact the Genesis Project at: 970-682-2289 or https://genesisfortcollins.com/
Star Trek III starts off with the weary Enterprise crew returning home after their near-death battle with Khan, and the actual death of Spock, whose body had been torpedoed to the Genesis world, which was a newly transformed planet, formerly without life. While all involved are a bit worse for wear, the biggest effect on a crew member seems to be with Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), who is exhibiting strange behavior that suggests he may be cracking from the experience, babbling something about returning to Spock's homeworld of Vulcan. Spock's father, Sarek (Mark Lenard), is convinced that Spock's "essence" has somehow been transferred to another before his death through a mind-meld, which would explain McCoy's behavior. With an unknown life form recently found on the Genesis planet, Kirk (William Shatner) wants to visit and find out if Spock's body is also reincarnated, but the instability of the area makes it off-limits to anyone but science officers. Kirk and company must hijack their old ship, against orders, but soon finds that murderous Klingons have discovered news of the Genesis Project, and are willing to kill anyone in order to gain information on the process. Leonard Nimoy directs.
Some of God’s greatest miracles come when He brings good out of dark places. In Ogden, Utah, pastor Matt Roberts felt he didn’t feel comfortable inviting his friends and neighbors to church as it didn’t feel like a place where people could be vulnerable, so he decided to create an open community he thought they—and he—would feel like they belonged. When his former youth pastor, Rob Cowles, came for a visit, Rob knew The Genesis Project was something special and decided to plant his own location in Fort Collins, Colorado—in, of all places, a former strip club. Carrie Stuart Parks was a young woman with a flair for art when her father, the head of the School of Law Enforcement in northern Idaho, decided to invite Carrie to use her talents on crime scenes. Carrie became enamored with the work, helping victims close the chapter on some of the darkest moments of their lives. She even began a second career as a thriller novelist—not knowing her mentor was a wildly successful author himself—and work to help reach not knowing her mentor was a wildly successful author himself—now reaches the world through stories and emotions we all can relate to. "In the everyday stuff of our lives." We say that an awful lot at The Genesis Project. We believe that Jesus' teachings apply not just to the "religious" sphere of life, but to and for the everyday.
I’m not a huge Star Trek fan but I do appreciate Wrath of Khan. It’s the one Star Trek movie I’ll watch when I come across it. Wrath of Khan is where you see the concept of the Genesis Project. The idea of creating a whole new liveable world out of a bleak, uninhabitable planet.

Ascending Leaders Presents: The Discipleship Podcast for Church Leaders
In this episode, experienced pastor and discipleship coach Bob Johnson talks with Ascending Leaders’ president Mike Johnson about how the command to make disciples goes back further than the Great Commission. In fact, Bob argues that the reason for discipleship is given in Genesis 1. He calls this “The Genesis Project.” Understanding God’s ultimate “why” for discipleship in The Genesis Project provides that motivation. This is how a church can persevere along a DisciplePath even when it takes years to see results.
Mike's back! This time he welcomes back his son to talk about his experience of watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan! On the eve of Father's Day, it's a pretty moving episode (for Mike) as Mike unwraps the TWoK subplot of father's and sons and discovers what the Genesis Project truly meant. Clair Brockway is a sophomore at The Woodlands High School, but that doesn't even begin to cover the depth of talent she has achieved at a young age. The singer/songwriter will perform three of her original songs at Sound by the Shore, a local benefit concert that will raise money for Montgomery County Youth Services. She is also featured on The Genesis Project album, a compilation of young artists to raise money for a child's college fund who's mother—an area high school teacher—was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. The album can be purchased on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.
Terraforming hasn't had this big a PR problem since the Genesis Project! The Enterprise crew arrives at Valera III for a science lecture, but wind up mounting an investigation into murder most foul, with the chief suspect being a brilliant scientist (whose resemblance to a Bond villain is more than skin deep). The shocking truth is revealed when Geordi and Data look down a deep hole without Riker there to show them the ropes. When the indigenous life form of Velara III gets to set trippin' with the ship, it inspires your micro-brained hosts to air out their frustrations about Internet commenters mentioning other Star Trek podcasts. It's the episode where Adam and Ben start a rap feud with another show!
