The Blessed Beauty Podcast - Simple Beauty Advice for Busy Catholic Women
In this video, as a 20+ year esthetician, I explain the potential risks of Meghan's DIY Bath Salt Soak recipe from Episode #1 of her "With Love Meghan" series (Season 1) and why you should NOT try her method for yourself WITHOUT knowledge of essential oils and their potential risks! There MAY be the potential for skin irritations if you use an essential oil ON ITS OWN without using "carrier oils" - and I explain this in detail in the video. In episode 1 of her series, Meghan makes a DIY at home bath salt soak recipe, but I realized that there is potential for someone to get confused with the ingredients she uses. Essential oils are volatile plant compounds that may have the potential to irritate people's skin, especially those who are particularly sensitive! In Ep. 1 of With Love, Meghan, where we see her make up her bath salt recipe, Meghan MAY have used an essential oil MIXED with a carrier oil, BUT she does NOT clarify this- so I am here to help you minimize the potential risks of making this recipe -advising you on what to do and what NOT to do if you attempt to try this at home. EDIT - Someone mentioned in my YT comments that she also used Pink Himalayan Salt in her mixture- that is totally FINE to use if you want to! Although note - that Himalayan pink salt does NOT dissolve into water as readily as Epsom salt (due to its chemical composition) so there is a potential that Himalayan pink salt MAY leave someone with dry to very dry to sensitive skin drier after soaking in it. Personally- I wouldn't bother with the pink salt she uses- save that for other things like cooking if you like that. ALSO- for those questioning if salt itself is water based - YES - H2O is a major component of salt - and Epsom Salt contains a little over 50% water in its composition. Here's a much SAFER RECIPE - 1- 2 cups Epsom Salt (measured) Mix very thoroughly into the salt - 1-2 drops of your favorite Essential oil WITH 8-10 drops of a good carrier oil (like jojoba, argan, almond oil, etc.) Put a lid on the mixture and use within 1-3 days max) NOTE - IF you like and can tolerate a stronger scent and want to use more Essential oil, then remember - for every 1-2 drops of essential oil you add, you MUST remember to add 8-10 more drops of carrier oil as well. I wouldn't recommend using more than 6-8 drops of your ESSENTIAL OIL in total - That way you avoid potential future irritations. When in doubt patch test for at least 24 hours prior to using any kind of oil (essential or not) on your skin- and that goes for any cosmetic preparations! In this week's Gloria Grahame Acteurist Oeuvre-view episode our heroine reunites with Fritz Lang and Glenn Ford in Human Desire (1954), based on the Zola novel La bête humaine, which was more faithfully filmed by Renoir in 1938. We debate the relative merits of the two adaptations as well as the potential weakness that links them. Then we turn to the quirky little noir Naked Alibi (also 1954, co-starring Sterling Hayden), in which Gloria gets to be the hero against a thoroughly incoherent backdrop to which we apply some scattershot social analysis. Irresponsible opinions galore await the courageous listener! Time Codes: 0h 00m 25s: HUMAN DESIRE (1954) [dir. Fritz Lang] 0h 28m 43s: NAKED ALIBI (1954) [dir. This week, we have two guests on the podcast. We're joined by Gene Flenady, Lecturer in Philosophy at Monash University, whose research concerns the structure and social conditions of human rational agency, including the implications of new technologies for meaningful work and tertiary pedagogy. Our second guest is Robert Sparrow, Professor of Philosophy at Monash University. His research interests include political philosophy and the ethics of science and technology with an eye towards real-world applications. Flenady and Sparrow argue that GenAI systems are "constitutively irresponsible" because their algorithms are designed to predict what "sounds good" - not necessarily what is true or contextually appropriate. Our guests suggest that it's unfair to expect learners themselves to determine when AI is wrong or misleading. Doing so puts students in an impossible position and gets in the way of building meaningful relationships with their human teachers and the pursuit of lifelong learning. Learn more about Drs. Flenady and Sparrow's work in their article: “Cut the bullshit: why GenAI systems are neither collaborators nor tutors”Other materials referenced in this episode include:Frankfurt, H. G. (2005). In this episode of Restauranttopia, the crew dives deep into culture — not just within your restaurant walls, but in every corner of your business ecosystem. Inspired by Cameron Mitchell's book Yes is the Answer. What's the Question?, Dave, Brian, and Anthony unpack how a restaurant's mission and culture extend to employees, guests, purveyors, investors, and the community. From the dangers of ignoring toxic high performers to the power of making vendors raving fans, this conversation highlights practical strategies and real-life stories that restaurant operators can implement today. They also touch on hospitality “moments” like the milkshake story and a surprising Diet Coke lesson that reveal why “yes” should always be the answer. Whether you're an owner, manager, or aspiring operator, this episode challenges you to think about culture as the fuel that sustains success, loyalty, and long-term profitability. Key Talking Points Why mission statements actually matter (Hillcrest Foods' example: Love the employee and customer for a lifetime loyalty). The four core questions Cameron Mitchell asked himself when starting his restaurant group: Who are we? What do we want to be? Why are we in business? What is our role? The five groups every restaurant must make “raving fans”: employees, guests, purveyors, investors, communities. Vendor relationships: shifting from adversaries to partners. The real cost of keeping a toxic high performer. Stories of hospitality in action: the milkshake story, the Diet Coke moment, and splitting checks in Vegas. Culture lessons from Margaret Heffernan's TED Talk on the “super chickens” problem. Hiring and onboarding tips: the five traits Hillcrest looks for (great human being, likability, life-change potential, long-term fit, fun & competitive). A former Defence Minister is commending the Navy Chief's stance on irresponsible drinking. A directive from Rear Admiral Garin Golding points to multiple alcohol-related incidents in the past month at various levels, domestically and internationally. It says alcohol undermines health, wellbeing and decision-making across the Navy. Current Defence Minister Judith Collins says no Chief should have to deal with it. Wayne Mapp says this order will tackle the issue at its core. "Changing expectations, giving briefings, giving counselling - getting the things done that actually reduces these problems." Joe Hegener thinks that because of changes in the Japanese bond market, the U.S. bond market is going to lose bigger buyers. However, he thinks that the market will “take it in stride.” On the other hand, he thinks long-term yields could spike in the next few months which will hurt risk assets. He “wouldn't rush” to buy Nvidia (NVDA) because its multiple is too high for his liking. Bitcoin is worth “either nothing, or a hell of a lot more,” and it's “irresponsible” not to be invested in it.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Another week brings another tariff threat from the Trump administration, without clarity on who is being targeted and for what reason. Andrew argues that the media must resist applying normal rules of rational behaviour that you would expect from any other presidency. Trump is becoming increasingly erratic in his second term and must continue exceeding expectations with his bad behaviour to satisfy himself and his followers. Meanwhile his Big Beautiful Bill includes tax cuts that will add billions of dollars to America's debt, an irresponsible fiscal plan that mirrors Mark Carney's tax cut plan in Canada. Why are governments around the world happy to increase debts and deficits at the expense of the long term health of their economies? Andrew and Rudyard agree that to increase productivity in Canada we need more investment which comes from tax reform and bringing down the top marginal tax rate - something no government wants to do.

Since last week we've been to Pride night, and Pottymouth has checked out the Smokies new ballpark, and crosstrained with Bananaball. Patti opted out on Bananaball because there are two kinds of people in the world. Although Cosmic Baseball could be a thing… The All Star Game is loaded with former boyfriends and just a few new ones, and the Derby could be all our guys. Congrats to Justin Verlander on what must be a very beautiful new baby, and thanks for the timing which let Brett Wisely back up to the bigs. More fans behaving badly, this time to Ketel Marte, and good work to the hometown fans for much-needed support. Police Blotter and more crosstraining as we report on horrible men in two sports. Franco gets away with abhorrent deeds and Tucker denies it all. More World Baseball Classic participants are announced and we are eyeing a trip to Puerto Rico. And thank you, Trea Turner, for not ticking off the baseball gods.We say, “I went and did the Banana thing,” “A light beer but way more of it so the math should work,” and “Whiskey with the Canadians in the basement.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. A submissive wife must prioritize staying within her budget. Irresponsible spending places unnecessary pressure on her husband and on her relationship.Your husband is responsible for managing the family finances and ensuring bills are paid. When you overspend, you make it harder, or even impossible, for him to fulfill that duty.Financial peace in marriage requires discipline. When you choose self-control, you choose respect. You choose to support his role and lead with wisdom. If you spend without accountability, expect him to take a firm stance. Submission means being trustworthy, even in how you handle money.
The general attitude toward unmarried men is that they are selfish, short-sighted, man-children who forgo real growth and fulfillment in favor of satisfying their own desires. As a consequence, the irresponsible man should submit to social institutions – like marriage – that correct their baser natures. In this episode, I offer my best counterargument to the case against unmarried men and expose the flaws in this reasoning. On this episode of the podcast, Amanda Head and her guests who both honorably retired from the US Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) discuss former FBI Director James Comey's recent and controversial ‘8647' Instagram post, which has sparked concern and debate across the law enforcement community and Trump Administration. The first interview on this episode is a discussion with retired Secret Service Special Agent and Safe Haven Security Group consultant Bill Gage. The 12 year Special Agent breaks down how the United States government investigates threats against the President — using Comey's ‘8647' post as a case study. Gage walks through the role of the Protective Intelligence Division (PID), the importance of intelligence coordination, and how investigations are focused on facts, not intimidation. Furthermore, Gage supports US Secret Service Director Sean Curran's effort to modernize the Secret Service training center which includes building a full-scale White House replica for $8M.The second interview on this episode is a discussion with retired FBI Executive Assistant Director Chris Piehota. The two discuss former FBI Director James Comey's “highly irresponsible” social media post that has since been deleted from his personal account. Piehota criticized Comey saying that his original claim of ignorance about the term “86” is ‘hard to believe' considering his past professional ‘experiences and education.' Furthermore, Piehota opines on the FBI's potentially reduced operational budget by over $500M, as well as current FBI Director Kash Patel's plans to relocate 1,500 FBI personnel out of the J. Edgar Hoover building in Washington, D.C.You can buy Chris Piehota's book, “WANTED: The FBI I Once Knew” on Amazon today, and follow him or Amanda on X by searching for their social handles: @AmandaHead or @ChrisPiehota. Rachel Maddow reports on examples of American citizens caught up in Donald Trump's attacks on immigrants in the U.S., some by accident, some by malicious negligence, and some apparently targeted on purpose.
Joe Concha, Fox News Contributor and author of Progressively Worse, joined The Guy Benson Show today to preview his upcoming book The Greatest Comeback Ever: Inside Trump's Big Beautiful Campaign, which hits shelves April 29. Concha reacted to a viral CNN clip that claimed “there's no left-wing equivalent to the violent right," which is especially ironic considering the long history of violence from the left. Concha and Benson also discussed a CNN clip that featured Taylor Lorenz, who recently praised a CEO's killer. Concha also weighed in on the bizarre Trump-Whitmer meeting and compared it to Bill Maher's recent White House visit. Listen to the full interview below! Learn more about your ad choices. The incompetence shown by Trump's cabinet members and Vice President is staggering. A group text message on the Signal platform accidentally included a reporter along with Vice President Vance and Secretaries Hegseth, Rubio, Gabbard, National Security Advisor Waltz and more discussing pending military actions. No one checked the text group list or thought to take the conversation to a secure government platform before sharing military operational details. Former national security adviser John Bolton says while Signal is encrypted, it is not equivalent to U.S. government secure telecommunications. Planning military strikes via text puts American military members at risk. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called for “accountability for a screw-up like this, especially from a president who used to fire people every day on television for sport.” Republican Senator John Cornryn called it a huge screw up and Senator Susan Collins said it was inconceivable to her. There are now calls for an investigation. We will ask Pulitzer Prize winning author and investigative reporter David Cay Johnston about this and so much more.It is Tech Tuesday on The Mark Thompson Show. Jefferson Graham joins to share details about the Signal platform, take a look at whether it's safe to travel if the government tries to access your phone and what the bankruptcy of 23 & me could mean for you.
