The Rolling Girls (2015) is an anime that I have mixed feelings about, mostly because it performs very well in some areas but (in my opinion) poorly in others. This made me think quite strongly about the idea of ‘premises’ and whether a ‘good’ one genuinely exists. In this episode I discuss what I dislike about the story as a whole, in contrast to it’s individual episodes, what made it a strong production to begin with & how the show (despite my personal gripes) was still relaxing to watch. On the side I talk about my experience so far with the Kara no Kyoukai: Garden of Sinners film series. If you’re new to the podcast, welcome to Get In The Mecha Season 1 (2nd Cour)! Here’s to 50 more episodes! Animators mentioned: Arifumi Imai, Yasayuki Ebara, Takuma Ebisu, Yukina Kosaka, Tomohiro Shinoda, Tetsuya Takeuchi, Go Kimura, Masayuki Kunihiro. We’re back in action and we’re talking about cycling! No, not that cycling because Yowapeda season three isn’t quite done yet, but Minami Kamakura High School Girls’ Cycling Club. The optics of the show demanded I ask Ink (@AnimatedInk) to join us in this journey, and he accepted on the condition we also review Rolling Girls, which I sort of did and everyone else actually did. If you didn’t know yet, Corey (@coreyzone) is very enthusiastic about both shows. Chris (@gokuffy) and I also continue our journey through the Kurosawa catalogue with One Wonderful Sunday. Listen Show notes: 0:30 – Chris and I talk about post-war Kurosawa, One Wonderful Sunday! 22:51 – Corey and Ink join Chris and I to talk Rolling Girls! 1:00:40 – We talk about Minami Kamakura High School Girls’ Cycling Club! 1:50:14 – We talk about the Minami Kamakura High School Girls’ Cycling Club OAV! Next time is a good question because I dunno when this is gonna come out!
We’re back for season two! Funim-I mean Nozomi finally released Big Windup 2 and we’re covering it, right here, right now. Joining me are my cohorts of the Taiiku Podcast, Corey (@coreyzone) and Chris (@gokuffy). And in our ongoing Kurosawa review, Chris and I talk about No Regrets for Our Youth, the first in the post-war Kurosawa set. Listen Show notes: 0:30 – Chris and I resume our Kurosawa watch with No Regrets for Our Youth! 37:24 – Chris, Corey, and I talk about Big Windup 2! Next time is One Wonderful Sunday, Rolling Girls, and Minami Kamakura High School Girls’ Cycling Club!
