In its first six years from 1998 to 2004, Google built one of the greatest products of all time (and certainly the greatest business of all time) with Search. Then in its next six years from 2005 to 2011, Google built seven (!) more billion+ user products: Gmail, Maps, Drive and Docs, YouTube, Chrome, Android, and Photos — all either started from scratch internally or acquired as startups that were still in their infancy. This six-year period of wild innovation STILL stands unmatched in technology history… no other tech company counts more than four billion+ user products in its portfolio total. And of course, this “Google 2.0” era culminated in the transformation of the very company itself into Alphabet. So the question we answer today is… how did they do it?? And why? What was the strategy that led a once “pure play” search company into such far flung fields as email, mapping, funny cat videos and operating systems? We unpack the brilliant (and sometimes accidental) strategies behind each product, the simultaneous three-front war Google fought against Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook, and the spectacular failure of Google Plus that nearly destroyed the company's culture — before ultimately setting the stage for both Alphabet and the AI revolution to come.Sponsors:Many thanks to our fantastic Summer ‘25 Season partners:J.P. As the days get shorter and the temperatures dip, do you feel your energy levels shift too? Maybe you're waking up to darker, colder mornings, or reaching for those comforting carbs a little more often. You're not imagining it—seasonal changes really do affect how we feel, both physically and mentally. And the truth is, these shifts can sometimes leave us feeling drained, moody, and out of sync with our usual rhythms. Actually, there is a reason why this happens… and that's exactly what I'm talking about in this week's episode of Rooted in Wellness. I'll break down why colder, overcast days might make you crave more warmth (and caffeine!) and how this can impact your mental clarity and motivation. Together, we'll explore how aligning with the seasons can actually help you feel your best, even when the weather's working against you. From nourishing foods that support your body's natural rhythms, to ancient healing practices that help you stay rooted, this episode will guide you through the changes ahead. So, if you've been feeling a little out of sync or just need a little guidance on how to thrive through the colder months, this episode is for you. Tune in to discover how to navigate this seasonal transition with more ease and energy. We Also Discuss: (00:10) - Welcome to the Fall Season (05:25) - How Seasonal Changes Affect Your Energy and Mood (12:40) - Understanding the Body's Response to Colder Months (18:15) - Simple Tips to Stay Grounded During Seasonal Transitions (25:50) - Aligning with Nature for Optimal Wellness

In another of their intimate international dialogues, Thomas and Panu discussed the significance of connecting with nature for them during the changing seasons. Panu evolved the Finnish season of Marras, the gray time of the year as Autumn transitions to darker Winter, and when it's normal for us all to be sensitive to feelings associated with grief. Thomas reflected on holidays of remembrance like Veterans Day (dating to WWI Armistice day), Remembrance Day for Species, and the Day of the Dead that help to mark our losses and celebrate our continuing bonds. Their conversation emphasized that "We create our own light when we need to" – and reminds you of the the value of your community and connections in your own place this season.

The highest levels of professional golf promise more money than ever before—but the drop-off from the top level to the next level down might also be steeper than ever before. In this episode, Lou, Mark, and Greg talk about the conclusion of the Fall Series on the PGA Tour, where the top 125 players secured their cards for the upcoming season. But a couple of those right on the bubble, including some who got their cards, had also received sponsor invites to no-cut events which guaranteed them points—points that if they hadn't gotten, someone else would have secured a Tour card. Lou argues for a greater meritocracy and the three discuss the various interests involved.
