"On July 21, 2020, it seemed that everything we'd experienced and labored over during our 40 years of married life was about to play into a story more grand than we could have ever written on our own. I was wearing a T-shirt I'd found at a garage sale that read, “The Adventure Begins”, and we'd just finished our “goodbye lunch” with a close friend. Just before we pulled out to our new life as nomads, she snapped the last pre-nomad photo of us next to our van. It was about 2 p.m. when we started our engines to our special nomad song—the Live at Bonnaroo recording of “Free/Into The Mystic” that begins with an epic violin solo and lands gently on the lyrics:We live out in our old vanTravel all across this landJust me and youWe'll end up hand in handSomewhere down on the sandJust me and youJust as freeFree as we'll ever be...And just like that, I became a free-range human; Mark's Paragina ― a female pilgrim. To the left was my Codega—the one who would walk along the streets in front of me with a spiritual lantern to light murky pathways and scare away the darkness..."In 2024, Cindy's book about her and Mark's experiences living a full-time Van life was published by One Stone Biblical Resources. It is entitled One Hundred Churches: A Three-Year Journey to Witness the Joy of Authentic Christianity. The book is part travel journal, part spiritual road map, part autobiography, part devotional, and part vanlife guide, and this podcast shares the front matter of that book, including the "About the Author", "Introduction," and "Preface" sections, and is the debut podcast for the One Hundred Churches series of stories that will follow. In that time, the New York-based band has released a pair of well-received albums, an EP, and played countless shows. Prior to the pandemic, the band was really starting to hit its stride. They had a system in place and were spreading their brand of melodic rock to the masses. In fact, they could count Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, and Orville Peck as vocal supporters, which led to support slots for each. Soon, incredible live appearances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Newport Folk Festival, and Shaky Knees became the norm. In late 2020, The Nude Party released its sophomore album, Midnight Manor, which debuted at #1 on the Alternative New Artists Album Chart. The sextet was unable to tour behind it and compared its release to skipping a stone over a raging river. A byproduct was that it showed the band that on their third album, they couldn't lean on their tried-and-true method of testing out new material live and then hunker down to record. Instead of sitting around, the band got busy. Setting up shop in their Upstate New York headquarters, the group used the funds they'd saved and spent a year building a studio space out of a barn. Tired of paying for studio time and being rushed, The Nude Party methodically worked at their own pace. Out were the sessions lasting a strict handful of days. In were impromptu writing moments and picking every sound as they went along. When the band met the Tampa based engineer Matthew Horner, they discovered that they had the opposite problems: Matthew had a collection of incredible gear with no studio and The Nude Party had a great new studio with no gear. So they invited him to move his equipment up to the Catskills to record an album together. Such was the origin of the band's third album, Rides On. Unlike their first two albums, The Nude Party decided to produce Rides On themselves. With their new space and the help of Horner, The Nude Party had as much fun creating as they ever had at any other point in their career. The lack of pressure allowed them to record over 20 songs, including some that dabbled in electro-pop and stripped-down country before settling on the final 14 songs. Rides On, the band confidently says, is their best record. It's also the most homegrown and the most organic record The Nude Party has created to date. Working on the album themselves allowed for a democratic process where each band member could take a fuller role in producing the songs they wrote. There was some initial trepidation about there being too many cooks in the kitchen. But as is the benefit of owning your own studio space, time was not a factor. In turn, it allowed for the band's ideas to blossom, everyone's voice be taken into account and create an exciting, collaborative vibe. The relaxed atmosphere of the sessions, and arriving with only loosely structured material, allowed the band to thrive in the studio. It also unleashed a diverse sonic texture compared to their previous releases, as best demonstrated by the title track, “Ride On.” Sonically, the song is reminiscent of Sticky Fingers-era Stones, but its lyrics are mini-vignettes where Magee sings about persevering through adversity. The twangy, blues-drenched licks of the title track, the breezy desert dust encapsulated by the ‘70s infused “Hard Times,” the Shaun Couture-led “Sold Out of Love,” the swinging ‘60s garage vibes of “Cherry Red Boots,” which captures the spirit of what The Nude Party are going for — and showcases their growth as a band. As does expanding the band's sonic palate with a cover of Dr. John's “Somebody Tryin' To Hoodoo Me.” It would have been easy to stick to the New Orleans musician's format, but the band showed off their prowess with their own darker, electric version of the deep cut. The Nude Party coalesced and embraced the spirit of collaboration. They're excited to begin the next chapter of their career. At a time when it would have been easy to pack it in, the band continues to persevere." Guetts and Sma from the band Crumbsnatchers are our guests for Episode 194. Crumbsnatchers hails from Nashville, Tennessee, and boasts a singular sound and a live show that compels devotion. Guetts, the frontman and principal songwriter, has lived a fascinating life whose experiences translate to records that remind of your favorite bands while defying comparison. We were supposed to catch up with Crumbsnatchers during Bonnaroo 2025, but the weather and the powers that be had other designs. Bonnaroo was cancelled after a magical day and a half during which I had the pleasure of seeing the band twice in a twenty-four hour period. Thankfully, our paths were destined to connect just a couple days later in Nashville. Send us a textAfter a hiatus and the aftermath of the cancellation of Bonnaroo (2:00), the Gents have finally returned to their regular scheduled broadcast of the EstoBro TV Podcast. It is officially summer time, which means insane weather outside of heatwaves are impacting your favorite vacation spots everywhere. EstoBro breaks with TV with his qualms of the state of Bonnaroo, especially with the third cancellation of the music and arts festival in a span of 5 years. Returning back to the classic format of the show, TV breaks down the results of the NBA Finals and the Stanley Cup Finals (14:20). The Oklahoma City Thunder won their first title in franchise history, while the Florida Panthers went back-to-back as champions; the latter having a rematch against the Edmonton Oilers. With July arriving, the biggest movie month of the year is set to take place (37:00). After TV's review of the live action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, the pair also debate on who will rule the box office amongst: Jurassic World: Rebirth, Superman, and Fantastic Four: First Steps; which will all be releasing on separate dates for the month in that order. In this first of four episodes from Northlands Music & Arts Festival, I'm super psyched to share two very special interviews.  First up, I'm happy to share my chat with festival co-founders Mike Chadinha and Seth McNally along with festival co-owner and co-producer Jen Meyerhardt on the last day of this amazing festival to review the proceedings at the fourth annual installment of this wonderful festival. We talk about it all, from the inherent festival ups and downs to their amazing staff and wonderful patrons that make this Festival one of the best of its class. These folks really do it right, and they talk to me about creating and sustaining this festival and what it all means to them!!I'm also super psyched to share my interview with Joel Cummins and Ryan Stasik of Umphrey's McGee, who sat down with me together for a quick update on the state of the UM World in 2025. Lots of changes are happening, and Joel and Ryan talk to me about their collective gratitude for still being able to do what they do, and how their special form of improv continues to make it exciting for them to turn on their fans with their spectacular live shows. They share with me their views on their famous Zeppelin sets to working with new drummer Scotty Zwang, and we even discuss Ryan's possible reluctance (tbd) to take one for the team and execute a sacrifice bunt when the situation requires one. S.G. Goodman is a singer and songwriter from Hickman, KY, who now makes her home in Murray, KY. Her outstanding third album Planting By The Signs is available everywhere now. Goodman's music has been a constant in my life since her debut solo record Old Time Feeling dropped in 2020. She is a storyteller with few peers who blends soul, country, indie rock, blues- all the things, to create her signature sound.  I have been wanting to have S.G. on the show for five years and it has now become a reality.
