God doesn't cause people to sin. God doesn't make people sin. God isn't a bad God, but people sin of their own choosing, but God is bigger than they are. And God is able to take even sinful people and things, and He, through providence, is able to work that out for His glory and our good.

From the very beginning, Joseph's story has interesting parallels with the life of our Lord Jesus. Starting with that, this sermon focuses on how history - through redemption - becomes His story.

There is an enemy to faithfulness that continually tries to work it’s way into our lives. It purpose is to turn us from God’s purpose to one of our own. Many allow it into their lives and become lead by it instead of being lead by the Spirit of God in us. This enemy is so deceptive that we often follow it without realizing we left what God wanted us to do. It seems that in this story and one before it goats had to die as a result, and not in a sacrifice to God. Want to know what this enemy to faithfulness is?

Jacob's favored son Joseph tells of his dreams that he will rule over his brothers. His brothers plot out of hatred to kill Joseph yet sell him instead. Joseph is then brought to Egypt and sold to Potiphar, the captain of the guard.
Jacob favoritism of his son Joseph backfired. Instead of bringing blessing, it created jealousy, anger, and even hatred among his siblings. But even in the midst of all the hardship this created, God had a plan...

We can sometimes feel like we thought life was going to be in one direction, even called by God towards it, and yet we end up in a different place. Joseph felt that way. However, nothing stopped God's plans to save His people- not sin, not struggle, not imprisonment.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors. Genesis 37:3

While God may feel hidden, he is never absent. God is always doing something, he is never doing nothing.
