Cork City based indie-folk band BRIARS releaser their high-octane new single, ‘Roimh'. With a sound that ranges from fragile subtlety to raucous energy, BRIARS weave shades of alternative folk, indie, pop, rock and Irish traditional music that combine into a sprawling and irresistibly energetic sound. Having shared bills with groups such as The Scratch, The Wran, Leevy and Billow Wood and performing at some of the country's leading folk festivals (Whelan's Folk and Trad Fest, Galway Folk Festival, Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, Cork Roots Festival) alongside Electric Picnic and more, the six-piece are quickly gaining “must-see” status as a live act. With touches of Arcade Fire, Bear's Den, Hudson Taylor and The Riptide Movement, upcoming single ‘Roimh' (the Irish word for ‘before', pronounced ‘Riv') is a song rooted in perseverance. Celebrating the kinetic energy and momentum that is born from hope and human connection, the single doesn't linger on endings, but on the beauty of the build-up itself; embracing the journey regardless of the outcome. The band explain: “The idea is that even if things don't go as planned, or something ends badly, that it does not negate the time that was spent trying to get there. It would be easy to think “what's the point in doing something if it's just going to end anyway?”, but it would take us no where.” They add: “It is partly about the struggle to achieve certain things, and trying to have the persistence to keep going; whether it's moving on from a relationship that doesn't end well, or the devastation after someone has passed away, but you're looking back fondly on all the memories. The bad at the end doesn't discount the good that came before.” Dashed with the band's signature Irish traditional feel, the song features an array of instruments - bouzouki, bass, drums, piano, harmonium, synth, fiddle and accordion - which captures their ability to bridge old and new with ease.

For the second straight year, emissions from fossil fuels rose by slightly more than one per cent. Scientists at the COP30 climate conference in Brazil say it's one of the smallest in recent non-pandemic years - but it means efforts to curb warming global temperatures by getting fossil fuel emissions to stop rising are still not meeting targets.

What you'll hear Founder-host Fleire Castro sits in the guest chair as Charlene Virlouvet (Chief of Staff, DashoContent) co-hosts a candid first episode on Hybrid Content Operations (HCO)—a practical model where AI speeds research, drafting, and routing while marketers keep strategy, voice, and QA tight. We cover the origin story from Third Team Media, why HCO beats “tool-only” and “traditional-only,” early results from DashoContent's SEO Content Engine, and how brands can rank on both search engines and answer engines. Key Points HCO = AI handles repeatable tasks; humans handle strategy, brand voice, QA. Tool-only output sounds generic; human-only is slow and costly. The blend wins. DashoContent's SEO Content Engine uses agent flows for research → briefs → drafts, then human editors finalize for voice and intent. Ranking now includes answer engines; strong SEO fundamentals plus answer-engine aware content structure improves inclusion. Success = measurable lift in qualified traffic, rankings, and lead velocity—not word count. After talking last week about his government's achievements in the social sphere, this episode looks at the difficulties Wilson faced in economics and foreign affairs. One way Wilson explored to address economic problems was to make a second application for Britain's entry to the Common market, then called the European Economic Community and now the European Union. However, like Macmillan before him, he ran into the immovable obstacle of de Gaulle, despite believing like Trump that he could overcome opposition by personal conversation with political leaders. He had the same disappointment in personal negotiations twice more. Once waswith the Rhodesian Prime Minister, Ian Smith, the second in his offer to mediate over the Vietnam War between US President Johnson and the Soviet Premier Kosygin. He did have some success, though it attracted him more ridicule than admiration, in the military intervention he authorised on the tiny Caribbean island of Anguilla and which came to be mocked as ‘the Bay of Piglets'.On the domestic front he'd long balanced the leadership ambitions of Jim Callaghan against those of George Brown. After Brown's departure, he did the same with Callaghan and Roy Jenkins. His hold on office came under threat as his public credibility sank. The threat intensified following the controversy over the proposals to control union activity through the courts, outlined in the paper ‘In Place of Strife'. Surprisingly advanced by a leftwinger, Barbara Castle, and backed by Wilson, it seemed to fly in the face of the rationale of Labour's very existence, founded as it had been to defend the unions.Eventually the proposals were dropped. Then with better economic news Labour began to climb in the polls. Encouraged, Wilson called a general election in June 1970. But it turned out that any optimism generated by the opinion pollsters was illusory.Ted Heath's Conservatives won the election and formed a new government.Incidentally, the German translation of the podcast has now moved past the Tudors and is now dealing with the Stuarts.
