And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matt 3, 16) Fr. Is Kenny Presley Elvis' Son? Listen to Find Out

KENNY PRESLEY IN CONCERT IS "KENNY PRESLEY" THE SON OF ELVIS PRESLEY? Here's The Story As you might have guessed from his last name, Kenny Presley, 52, claims he is the son of none other than the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Now Kenny impersonates the King at musical performances called The Elvis Experience -- complete with sideburns, jumpsuits and all. "How many people believe this about Elvis, and how many people blow me off like I'm some kind of nut?" said Kenny in an interview with The Gleaner. "That bothers me. (Elvis) being my father causes me to have mixed emotions." Despite never meeting his biological father, Kenny says he was raised by a man who was a father figure to him. "I've known I was Elvis' son since I was 6 or 7 years old," said Presley. His mom "had a friend that used to come over at night and they used to sit and talk. I would hear them talk about Elvis, and her friend would say I really look like Elvis. Being that young I didn't really comprehend what she was saying. Then when I was 11, I heard her and my father arguing. My mother said she was going to take me and leave my father, and he replied, 'Take him. He belongs to Elvis. He doesn't belong to me.' " According to Kenny, his mother, Barbara Rushing, met Elvis Presley in 1962 when she visited Graceland in Memphis. She was 17. After that meeting, Elvis gave her his personal phone number, and she and Elvis went on dates to Liberty Land and drive-in movie theaters. Raised by strict Christian parents, Rushing kept their relationship a secret. Then in 1964, Kenny was born in Gleason, Tenn. In February of 1977, Kenny remembers a phone call with a man who knew Kenny's name and asked for his mother. Later his mother told him that Elvis had been on the other end of that phone call. At an early age, Presley developed a love for music, especially Peter Frampton and Conway Twitty. At 11 years old, Presley performed at a Walmart opening and started a band playing Elvis songs. Then he traveled for his music and has played with almost every member of Elvis band. The first person Kenny told about his Elvis parentage was a school friend who didn't believe him. People often bullied Kenny about his parentage while he was growing up. "It made me mad up to high heaven and hurt my feelings by the same token," he said. "Growing up, I didn't tell nobody else. I let the story die down. The only time we talked about it was among family, and it was rarely talked about even then." In 1992, Kenny and his mother hired a lawyer to prove that his father was Elvis with a paternity test. At one point, Presley received a threat on his life and said he had to hide in a log cabin in Missouri for a few weeks. "Our lawyer finally said he gave up," said Kenny. "This is leading nowhere and costing a small fortune. They have more money than we can find, so that went nowhere. I never wanted any money from the estate. All I want to do is entertain and make people happy." Kenny also knew Elvis' cook Mary Jenkins. He said she remembered when Barbara visited Graceland, and that Jenkins nicknamed her "Bobbysocks." Jenkins even made a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich for Kenny, just like Elvis used to eat. When she died in the early 2000s, Kenny sang at her funeral. Kenny Presley will be performing at Henderson's Preston Arts Center on May 13 at 7 p.m. The first part of the show has a Broadway and Vegas theme with a jailhouse rock performance. Then the second half features Elvis hits from the 1970s in more of a concert style. A member of Elvis' old entourage, Cricket Coulter, will be at the performance as well. She met Elvis during the early 1960s. She worked for him and became friends with Elvis. During her years spent with Elvis, he gave her different gifts that she has kept. She went as far as to collect Elvis's hair when he had his hair cut. At the performance, she will be selling locks of his hair, along with other pieces of Elvis memorabilia she received from him. She will also be available to answer questions about Elvis. "I tell this story, and that's what it is: a story," said Kenny. "People can believe it if they want. Someone asked me if I believe 100 percent in my heart. To answer that truthfully, I couldn't say yes because I can't know 100 percent. But I can't sit here and call my mother a liar. Elvis, her and God are the only ones who can answer that truthfully."

The hymn asks the right question: What do you want us to see there that your close companions saw? Through the eye-witness accounts of Peter, James, and John, we get to take in this heavenly vision before the deepest darkness of Jesus' passion, his suffering, and his death. But what are we to see there? What are we to take away? When Jesus was baptized, God spoke there, but that time he spoke for the sake of Jesus. He told him, “You are my Son…” (Mk 1:11). Here, Jesus is glorified, and the Father speaks once again, but, this time, for the sake of the disciples. He speaks to them (and through them to us): “This is my Son…Listen to him.” Today, once again, we become witnesses of his glory. Mark 9:2-9

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them; then from the cloud came a voice, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” In today's Gospel, Mark relates the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus as he is present with Peter, James, and John. During the Transfiguration, Jesus' clothes become dazzling white and then Elijah and Moses appear to Jesus, conversing with him. Terrified and struggling to find words, Peter suggests that they make three tents—one for Jesus, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. Then a cloud envelops them, which Matthew describes as a “bright cloud,” and a voice comes from it, the loving voice of God the Father. Suddenly, Mark tells us, the disciples no longer see anyone but Jesus alone with them. On their descent from the mountain, Jesus charges them “not to relate what they had seen to anyone, except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.” Today we have what the disciples did not yet have: the risen Christ among us. As God's children, what does that call for so that we can hear the Father say to us what he said to his Son? God, help me understand today's Gospel reading. In it, Jesus answers Peter, John, and James when they ask him what rising from the dead meant. Their understanding of your word in the Scriptures informs them that Elijah must come first. Just as Elijah preceded Jesus to restore all things, so did John the Baptist. “Yet,” Jesus says, “how is it written regarding the Son of Man that he must suffer greatly and be treated with contempt?” As for John, King Herod had him beheaded. With all of this to take in, let me remember the loving words you spoke to your Son during the Transfiguration, giving him authority to be heard as the Word Incarnate. Lord, overshadow me today with the bright cloud of your presence; in it, I want to be your beloved son. I can't see you, but I know you are with me. “Faith is the realization,” Saint Paul says in the first reading, “of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” God, strengthen my faith today and let me hear your voice! Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Listen as Fr. Rick Lesser reads the Gospel (Lk 9:28b-36) and a homily on the Second Sunday in Lent. Gospel Lk 9:28b-36 Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

When you're involved in God's work, it's easy to get out of balance and end up enjoying the work of the Lord more than the Lord of the work. First, Jesus called His disciples to Him; then, He sent them out from Him. The power you need to succeed in your God-given assignment comes from the time you spend with the Lord, not people. One day Jesus took three of His disciples to the top of the Mount of Transfiguration. ‘His face shone like the sun…there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus' (Matthew 17:2-3 NIV). Peter was elated by the experience: ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters' (v. 4 NIV). Peter wanted to stay, but God spoke from heaven and said, ‘This is My beloved Son…Listen to Him!' (Matthew 17:5 AMP). Afterwards, Jesus took His disciples back down the mountain and they began to minister to needy people. It's good to have periodic ‘mountaintop experiences' with God, but you can't stay there. There is work to be done at the foot of the mountain, and we have been called to do it. There must be a balance between taking in and giving out. One day a year, the high priest entered the holiest of holies and had the privilege of seeing God's glory. What an honour! But the rest of the year was spent outside, ministering to the people. After an encounter with God during which the building shook, Isaiah cried, ‘I am undone' (Isaiah 6:5 NKJV). Then God touched his mouth and said, ‘Go, and tell this people' (v. 9 NKJV). Are you getting the idea?

"This Is My Son…Listen to Him!” Exodus 24:12-18 & Matthew 17:1-9   This Sunday is the last for the season of Epiphany and it points to the Transfiguration of Jesus. Jesus is seen on the mountaintop as the glorious, reigning Son of God.  Up till now the disciples had only seen Jesus as a human that God was with. Now they are seeing him in his glory as the Son of God. They hear the affirmation of his glory from the Father saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”  The Father’s voice was pointing them to the One worthy of all their attention. What Peter and the other disciples were beginning to learn is the gospel. That Jesus is God come down to man in order to bring us to God. This sermon’s focus is how loving the gospel is listening to Jesus. It is easy for us to become distracted by other people and things and miss the glory of Jesus. Peter was distracted by the presence of Moses and Elijah, two men God used to reveal himself to his people. But now Jesus, the one to whom the Law and the Prophets point, the one who will replace the law, is in front of them. And God has to tell them to "Listen to him!”  We need to listen to him everyday all day. Don’t be distracted by the Moses’ and Elijah’s of our day. They’re only men, but Jesus is the Son!   Listening to the Son, with whom the Father is well pleased, is what gets you through this life. Listen to him, because he is greater than Moses. Listen to him because he is the mediator of a better covenant. Listen to him because his blood speaks better things than Able’s. Listen to him because in him God dwells with us. And as we listen to him, the Father’s pleasure with him, is the pleasure the Father has with us.

See that these titles preceded creation and Christ’s incarnation and are related to submission to authority. Find out that Satan rebelled against authority orientation and mankind has had a problem with authority ever since. See that as we learn about these role distinctions in the Godhead it helps us to understand and handle the difficult aspects of our relationships.

Dear Son, listen to your elders. There's such a wealth of information housed in prior generations that, too often, goes unsought. Sure, the world's perspective has and is ever evolving, but sound guidance from an era you never experienced is invaluable. Tim Allston brings decades of experience as a published author, public relations expert, educator, and public speaking professional to this week's show, and this conversation will not disappoint. We discussed the lows of the high. In Tim's case, the 'drug' was the command of the room as a public speaker. He references a quote from Johnny Carson, "I am impressive in front of 10 million, but I am horrible in front of 10." What is the real value of the world knowing your name when your family can't stand you? Now, I'm not suggesting that Tim's family wanted to kick him to the curb at times, but I know what it is like to have all of the confidence to communicate to a room full of strangers, and yet struggle to put a coherent string of sentences together at home. I'm willing to bet that several of you can relate. As usual, there's layers to the conversation that you'll only understand through consumption. I'd love to hear your perspective after digesting the whole episode. This is a good one. Grab a snack.
