KENNY PRESLEY IN CONCERT IS "KENNY PRESLEY" THE SON OF ELVIS PRESLEY? Here's The Story As you might have guessed from his last name, Kenny Presley, 52, claims he is the son of none other than the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Now Kenny impersonates the King at musical performances called The Elvis Experience -- complete with sideburns, jumpsuits and all. "How many people believe this about Elvis, and how many people blow me off like I'm some kind of nut?" said Kenny in an interview with The Gleaner. "That bothers me. (Elvis) being my father causes me to have mixed emotions." Despite never meeting his biological father, Kenny says he was raised by a man who was a father figure to him. "I've known I was Elvis' son since I was 6 or 7 years old," said Presley. His mom "had a friend that used to come over at night and they used to sit and talk. I would hear them talk about Elvis, and her friend would say I really look like Elvis. Being that young I didn't really comprehend what she was saying. Then when I was 11, I heard her and my father arguing. My mother said she was going to take me and leave my father, and he replied, 'Take him. He belongs to Elvis. He doesn't belong to me.' " According to Kenny, his mother, Barbara Rushing, met Elvis Presley in 1962 when she visited Graceland in Memphis. She was 17. After that meeting, Elvis gave her his personal phone number, and she and Elvis went on dates to Liberty Land and drive-in movie theaters. Raised by strict Christian parents, Rushing kept their relationship a secret. Then in 1964, Kenny was born in Gleason, Tenn. In February of 1977, Kenny remembers a phone call with a man who knew Kenny's name and asked for his mother. Later his mother told him that Elvis had been on the other end of that phone call. At an early age, Presley developed a love for music, especially Peter Frampton and Conway Twitty. At 11 years old, Presley performed at a Walmart opening and started a band playing Elvis songs. Then he traveled for his music and has played with almost every member of Elvis band. The first person Kenny told about his Elvis parentage was a school friend who didn't believe him. People often bullied Kenny about his parentage while he was growing up. "It made me mad up to high heaven and hurt my feelings by the same token," he said. "Growing up, I didn't tell nobody else. I let the story die down. The only time we talked about it was among family, and it was rarely talked about even then." In 1992, Kenny and his mother hired a lawyer to prove that his father was Elvis with a paternity test. At one point, Presley received a threat on his life and said he had to hide in a log cabin in Missouri for a few weeks. "Our lawyer finally said he gave up," said Kenny. "This is leading nowhere and costing a small fortune. They have more money than we can find, so that went nowhere. I never wanted any money from the estate. All I want to do is entertain and make people happy." Kenny also knew Elvis' cook Mary Jenkins. He said she remembered when Barbara visited Graceland, and that Jenkins nicknamed her "Bobbysocks." Jenkins even made a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich for Kenny, just like Elvis used to eat. When she died in the early 2000s, Kenny sang at her funeral. Kenny Presley will be performing at Henderson's Preston Arts Center on May 13 at 7 p.m. The first part of the show has a Broadway and Vegas theme with a jailhouse rock performance. Then the second half features Elvis hits from the 1970s in more of a concert style. A member of Elvis' old entourage, Cricket Coulter, will be at the performance as well. She met Elvis during the early 1960s. She worked for him and became friends with Elvis. During her years spent with Elvis, he gave her different gifts that she has kept. She went as far as to collect Elvis's hair when he had his hair cut. At the performance, she will be selling locks of his hair, along with other pieces of Elvis memorabilia she received from him. She will also be available to answer questions about Elvis. "I tell this story, and that's what it is: a story," said Kenny. "People can believe it if they want. Someone asked me if I believe 100 percent in my heart. To answer that truthfully, I couldn't say yes because I can't know 100 percent. But I can't sit here and call my mother a liar. Elvis, her and God are the only ones who can answer that truthfully."

On Down to Earth But Heavenly Minded Podcast. by Samuel Ridout Contents. Chapter 1. 1. The Loneliness of Departure from God 2. Faith: Its Separations and Companionship 3. The Return to Bethlehem Chapter 2. 4. A Gleaner in the Fields of Grace 5. Recognition and Encouragement Chapter 2:18 — 3. 6. The Kinsman-Redeemer Chapter 4. 7. Nearer than the Nearest Prefatory Note There is always a charm in typical and allegorical interpretation of Scripture when undertaken soberly and in accord with the general teaching of the word of God. Scripture itself abounds in illustrations of this method, while the parables of our Lord show how constantly He made use of it. No apology then need be made for finding the gospel in the Book of Ruth. That which appeals to the heart, too, has a place which must not be overlooked in these days of mental activity and selfishness. Heart history appeals to all who have hearts, and thus this story which is an appeal to the affections throughout has ever had an attraction for the people of God. The following pages contain little or nothing that is new; if they freshly bring to the memory well-known truths, and induce simpler faith in a well-known Lord, their purpose will have been met. The reader will notice that the dispensational features have been touched upon throughout. It should be remembered that the book is Jewish, and the first application must be to God's earthly people. This, so far from hindering its application to the present time, will be found to give an added charm. One slight correction should be made by the reader. In commenting on Ruth 2:18, the passage was treated as if Ruth after reaching home ate of what she had gleaned before giving to her mother-in-law. No doubt what is referred to in that verse is what she had left over from the midday meal spoken of in ver. 14 of the same chapter. She ate and was sufficed and left some of what had been given her. Of this she gave to Naomi. The lesson remains the same, but the charge of apparent selfishness is removed by this interpretation which is entirely permissible. The passage will be found in the relevant section in the "Gleanings." These pages are but "gleanings" in a field whose golden grain is offered to us with a largeness of heart and a freedom of which that of Boaz was but a type. That they may stir to fresh zeal in the searching of Scripture which will be most richly rewarded, is the prayer of the writer. S. Ridout.

It is not just the history of slavery and colonization, culture of racial discrimination, structural Adjustment, debt and size and history that have affected Caribbean development and growth, but also the culture of corruption, inherited either from neo-capitalism or human nature or the result of those who are always in lack and dependency. Today's lecture at the Jamaica Theological Seminary in Caribbean Thought week 9, focuses on the Cost of Corruption. The topic is important as since recently there has been a recent rise in financial and white-collar crimes not just in Jamaica but int he world. What is corruption? "We define corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. To end corruption, we must first understand it. That's why we look at what causes corruption and what works against it. To end corruption, we advocate for power to be held accountable. Everywhere," (Transparency International Website, https://www.transparency.org/en/). The 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) shows that most countries are failing to stop corruption. The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories around the world by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, scoring on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean), (Ibid). What is Jamaica's CPI compared to other Caribbean Countries? JAMAICA Score 44/100 Rank 69/180 Score change 0 since 2021. Caribbean nations with the Best CPI/Rank: 65 - Barbados 29 and 64 -Bahamas 30. Caribbean Nations with the worse CPI/Rank: 171 - Hait 17, 166 - Dominica Rep. 20, 85 - Suriname 40, and 85 - Guyana 40, 77 - Trinidad and Tobago 42, and Jamaica. Recently, Janie McEwan submitted a Letter to the Gleaner, which was "Letter of the Day on January 18, 2023, defining White-Collar Crimes, from a sociological perspective, as a product of the societal and cultural norms that shape the behavior of individuals and organizations. Jamaica, like many developing countries, has a culture of corruption that is deeply ingrained in its society. This culture of corruption can be seen in the widespread acceptance of bribes, embezzlement, and other forms of white-collar crime as a normal part of doing business,” See Janel McEwan in Letter of the Day | The impact of white-collar crime on Jamaica | Letters | Jamaica Gleaner (jamaica-gleaner.com) January 18, 2023. Three students, Tyrese Harrison, Sanshia Hayles and Sasha-Gaye Robinson in a group submitted a brief essay on Corruption in Jamaica by reviewing the film "Cost of Corruption'' a 2011 documentary film by the National Integrity Agency (NIA) Hosted by Executive Producer, Prof. Trevor Monroe. We may blame Jamaica's stagnation on the Neoliberal Regime of the Washington Consensus, but Trevor Monroe agrees but also places blame on the Corrupt Politicians and leaders. In fact, The Jamaica Gleaner reported a story on "Crooked Politicians on UK Radar," reporting that the former UK Ambassador to Jamaica had found widespread levels of corruption within Jamaica within the Government. “The politicians are more interested in getting in and or staying in power, than they are in delivering on the promises that Jamaicans need”, (The cost of corruption, 2012). The documentary Cost of Corruption is one that highlights corruption at its highest in society. We then discussed our advocacy for Haiti initiative and the Petition/sign on letter for Haiti for Caribbean Nationals. In general, you want to be responsive to those who wish to reach you. Consequently, each morning, before doing anything else, you scan your email inbox for new messages. However, if you have ever questioned the wisdom of this habit, your concerns are justified. The most effective professionals refuse to process email first. Instead, they start the day differently: they plan the time in their calendars. Read more articles like this from my Gleaner column https://blog.fwconsulting.com
In 1790, Judith Sargent Murray became the first American to publicly argue that men and women were equal. Hailing from seafaring Gloucester Massachusetts, she educated herself, weathered some of life's cruelest storms, and published hundreds of bold, brave essays. She expected to rock the boat, steering her new American nation toward equality. And America went…meh. Why? Join Katie on location at Sargent House Museum in Gloucester. At 34-year-old, Mr. Williams continues to do bartending and works as a delivery man to help support himself and his child. In an interview with a Jamaican newspaper (The Gleaner), he expressed his emotion: “Right now, just talking about this is giving me cold bumps. This is my one and only child and it scares me when he has seizures. I can only sleep with one eye open because of how fearful I am that something will happen to him. He gets scared, too, and would behave frantically in the house” Mr. Williams also reported that he spent over $40,000-$50,000-JMD monthly to take care of his child. The father desperately needs a disability bath chair so he can shower Devonte with ease. She shared this in her book, The Will To Overcome, and in a podcast interview with Impacting Jamaica.Mrs. Hinchcliffe was also at the forefront of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, writing a riveting series for The Gleaner newspaper in Kingston, Jamaica. Many look to her and her business, Manpower & Maintenance Services, to provide sanitization support throughout the pandemic. The businesswoman has been urging Jamaicans “to go take the damn vaccine” as the Government continues its massive campaign to get people to take the jab. Episode 420—you know what that means? We are talking all things marijuana. Mary Jane. The devil's lettuce. You get the point :) And who better to talk about it than Tom Celani, the owner, president, and CEO of Luna Entertainment, the mother company of Metro Detroit based MotorCity Harley-Davidson, MotorCity Power Sports, Freedom Hills amphitheatre, TC Vineyards Inc., and the Celani Family Vineyards in Napa Valley. Celani is also an investor in a theater chain, a land developer in Arizona and Colorado, and a casino management consultant. Tom was also a partner in Detroit's MotorCity Casino. He also owns High Life Farms in Chesaning, Michigan and California that boasts over 250,000 square feet of grow facilities. We also had in studio Rudy Patros, President of Securatech Solutions. Rudy puts in physical security systems, cameras, access control, etc. for these grow facilities. We discussed everything from how Tom got started in this business, to the legality of it, to how they select the products that go to market and how these facilities are locked down similar to a data center. Being a complete novice to this scene, I was fascinated on how quickly it's become a norm in today's society. Lastly, we talked about Tom's family foundation and the Cars and Cigars event where they raise money for Gleaner's Food Bank and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, two of my favorite local charities.

Broadcast legend Gil Bailey, who brought Caribbean music to the tri-state area and whose career spanned 50 years at four different local radio stations, died of COVID-19 earlier this week at the age of 84.His grandson, Korey Faulks, posted on Facebook that Bailey died in isolation early Monday morning.“Shortly after midnight, my mom lost her father. It hurts that she wasn't able to be by his side while he passed away, due to he contracted COVID-19 and had been isolated.”Known as the Godfather of Reggae Radio, Bailey was born in Jamaica in 1936 and got his start as an MC in London before moving to New York. In 1969, a friend at a Mount Kisco radio station invited him to stop by, said Sharon Gordon, a longtime friend, journalist and broadcaster who's also part of the Midnight Ravers on WBAI.Back then, reggae hadn't hit the mainstream yet. Bailey brought it to white audiences and also tapped into the Caribbean diaspora, which could only hear the music at house parties and bars.“We all grew up listening to Gil Bailey at nights,” Gordon said. She came to New York from Jamaica as a teenager in the 1970s and recalled hearing songs on Bailey's show and shopping for them the next day. She said Bailey became so popular he was the first to play new tunes by Michael Rose, Beres Hammond, Maxi Priest, Dennis Brown and more. She recalled hearing “Smile Jamaica” by Bob Marley and the Wailers before it appeared in record stores.“Gil played it. And I remember going up to Utica Avenue to Joe Gibbs records looking for that song,” she recalled. “And nobody knew the song I was talking about.”Other listeners shared similar experiences on Twitter.#RIP #GilBailey ....every Saturday morning growing up my parents would be up blasting the Radio to the Gil & Pat Bailey Morning show

Edward Philip George Seaga was born on May 28, 1930, in Boston'.His 18-year-old Jamaican mother, Erna Alleta Maxwell,His father, 29-year-old salesman Phillip George Seaga (who could sell snow to an Eskimo) was a second-generation Lebanese-Jamaican. He graduated from Harvard in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in social relations. He had by then broadened his academic interest in rural folk life to include recording and producing its evolved urban musical form.Seaga's Gleaner writings brought him to the attention of founder and president of the opposition Jamaica Labour Party, Alexander Bustamante, whose emergence on the national scene owed much to his own strident letter writing (in the 1920s) against Jamaica's ruling colonial order. In 1959 Bustamante appointed Seaga to sit in the upper house of the Jamaican Legislative Assembly. In 1960 he was elected assistant secretary of the party, and two years later he was elevated to the post of secretary.Seaga served at the finance and planning post until the JLP lost power - after two successive terms .Seaga led the JLP to a massive electoral victory over Michael Manley and the PNP - and their "democratic socialist" experiment. Seaga became independent Jamaica's fifth prime minister. Seaga and his government also undertook a pro-Western and particularly pro-US foreign policy stance. Seaga led other Anglo-Caribbean states in opposing the left-wing Maurice Bishop regime in Grenada, enthusiastically backing, after Bishop's demise, the October 1983 US invasion of the island. adapted from By Bernard Headley article Sunday, January 16, 2005
