There are a lot of names the Bible uses to describe believers. One of the not-so-well known ones is “we are like the feet of a deer”. Deer feet are light, and you've probably seen how they allow a deer to bound along easily. But something you might not have seen about them is that the front toes can dig in and grab difficult terrain. A deer could climb a mountain where many other animals and predators cannot climb. What would you pray if you were stuck in the middle of a fish? As far as we know, there's only one person that can answer that question from experience, and that's Jonah. A far more common question would be… What would you pray if you felt abandoned by God? Banished. Trapped. Terrified. When Judgement Day comes, there's no other questions to be asked, no bribery that can be offered to the judge, there's no way to get out of it. When some people think about Judgement Day they can feel scared or anxious about it. People back in Obadiah's day felt the same way. Even though they feared it, they were living God-less lives and seeming like they were getting away with their behavior. Have you ever considered the alternative of the prayer, “thy will be done”? C.S. Lewis had a quote that said, “There are two types of people in the world, those who say “thy will be done Lord” and then there are people to whom God will say “thy will be done”.” What it means is there are christians who trust Jesus and His will for their life. Then there's people who continue to ignore God and want their way and God says, “fine sinner, have it your way. Your will be done.” To live as though God is not a factor and blame Him for all the wrong in the world would be a cold life leading to separation from Him for eternity. This glimpse of God's glory gave him courage as he began his difficult ministry as a prophet. Psalm 2 Because Jesus is ruling over all things at all times, we have confidence in his victory over sin. Martin Luther said, “Psalm 2 is a prophecy of how Christ will suffer and become King and Lord of the entire world. This psalm promises that those who believe in Christ will be blessed. Through Christ, God has delivered us from sin, death and hell and brought us to eternal life! This is the blessing we pray for in the Second Petition of the Lord's Prayer, that his kingdom come.” 2 Corinthians 4:3-7 (sermon verses) See the Light! By nature we are all blinded by a veil of sin. But Jesus' glory has ripped through the veil and brought us out of the darkness and into the light! Mark 9:2-9 See the Light! Approximately one month before his crucifixion, Jesus' glory shined brightly as he transfigured himself. There was absolutely no doubt that he is, and always will be, true God!
