"Hebrews 1 begins by saying that God has spoken finally and fully in His Son, who is greater than angels. How does the supremacy of Christ fuel our mission to make Him known among the nations? How do the warnings about perseverance in Hebrews 3-4 encourage us to keep going in difficult ministry contexts and not give up? How do you see spiritual maturity tied to missional living—both in sending people and in equipping them to disciple others? The book of Hebrews shows that Christ is ‘better'—better than angels, Moses, and even the high priest. How do the first six chapters begin to build this case, and why does that matter for our faith and mission today? In today's episode, Emma Dotter and Watermark member, Andrew Templeton talk about Hebrews 1-6, setting up the book and talking about how the themes intersect with missions and discipleship. The author of Hebrews begins his letter by saying, "Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son..." With the advent season in full swing, this sermon is intended to intended to focus us on Jesus and his role as the greatest prophet that God ever sent. This reality is seen very well in the opening of the book of Hebrews where we learn that Jesus is a prophet through whom God has spoken a powerful word. However, we also see that Jesus is more than merely a prophet. In fact, he is "the radiance of the glory of God, and the exact imprint of his nature (Hebrews 1:3)." Part of what makes Jesus different than other prophets is that he does not just give God's revelation through his words, but through all that he is and does. Because Jesus is God incarnate, he is uniquely qualified to reveal God to us in a way that no one else can. As Colossians 1:15 says, "He is the image of the invisible God..." It is through Jesus that the invisible God becomes visible. As such, Jesus is not only the greatest revealer of God but also the greatest revelation of God.This is why the Bible places such a great emphasis on the words of Jesus, and why we read multiple passages that make clear the judgment that awaits those who do not hear and obey the voice of Christ. Tune into this episode to learn more. This episode is a sermon originally preached by Jackson Hankey at River City Church on December 7th, 2025.

When painful storms descend in a fallen world there’s only one sure Anchor. One person who decisively dealt with the problem of sin that broke creation. One person who’s promised to make all new. One person who is able to save to the uttermost, all those who draw near to God through Him. That’s what we’re celebrating at Advent: The coming of Son into His creation to deal with sin and make all things new.
Full-chapter, Jesus-centered Advent readings, rooted in themes of longing, preparation, incarnation, and hope. Each passage invites joyful anticipation of Christ's coming. May this daily rhythm of listening to God's Word shape your heart in this season of waiting

In C.S. Lewis' novel, Prince Caspian, there is a famous scene where Lucy rushes to Aslan the lion, falls between his front paws and buries her face in his mane. Aslan the lion represents Jesus. When Lucy is resting in his mane, she says these famous words. "Your bigger!", says Lucy. Aslan says, "That is because you are older, little one… every year you grow, you will find me bigger." C.S. Lewis' point is the more we grow in Christ, the bigger Christ becomes. In the first message of this Christmas series, we study the opening verses of the book of Hebrews to help us see that Jesus is greater and bigger than we can comprehend.

Hebrews 1:1-3New Living Translation1 Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. 3 The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honour at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.Music: "Rest in the Shadow" by Julian & Melissa Wiggins,Used with permission.
In this message, we highlight Jesus as God's ultimate revelation, the heir of all things, creator and sustainer of the universe, radiance of divine glory, purifier of sins, and exalted ruler at the Father's right hand.

Please welcome Chris Cheaney. On this episode, Chris takes us through the early verses of Hebrews. Hebrews opens with a description of the supremacy and deity of Christ. With that foundation, the author delivers a strong reminder to be vigilant and intentional in our spiritual lives to avoid any unintentional drift in our faith.
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil - Hebrews 2:14

Start with the breathtaking claim of Hebrews chapter 1: the same Jesus who walked dusty roads laid the foundations of the earth and shaped the heavens with his hands. We walk through the text step by step, showing how the author of Hebrews applies the divine name to Jesus, places Him above angels, and calls Him unchanging. If creation wears out like a garment, Jesus remains. That single truth reframes faith, hope, and every promise we bank on.We then pivot from soaring theology to a sober warning in Hebrews chapter 2: do not drift. Most of us don't renounce truth in one loud moment; we slide away in silence. Drift looks like busyness without Bible, borrowed convictions without Berean checking, and reading Scripture through the lens of our times instead of reading our times through Scripture. The remedy is clear and possible: pay closer attention to what the eyewitnesses handed down. The word was confirmed with signs, wonders, and gifts of the Holy Spirit—evidence we should not treat lightly.Together we explore why “neglect,” not just “reject,” is the danger of our age. For those outside The Church, ignoring Jesus' rescue leaves no alternate path around a just penalty for sin. For believers, casual faith invites discipline and loss, even as salvation rests secure in Jesus the Messiah. Through Israel's history and the coming judgment on Jerusalem, we're reminded that God's patience is holy, not permissive. The invitation is not to fear for fear's sake but to anchor to the only One who does not change. If you've felt the pull of the worldly tide, this conversation will help you tie the mooring line again—daily Scripture, honest community, and a fresh gaze at the majesty of Jesus. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs an anchor, and leave a review to help more listeners find these studies. The post Hebrews 1:1-3 appeared first on Southern Equip.
Start with a claim that won't let you shrug: the Father calls the Son God. We walk through Hebrews chapter 1 line by line to see how Scripture itself lifts Jesus above every created being, from angels to kings, and then crowns him with a righteous scepter. If angels refuse worship but Jesus receives it, what does that say about who he is and what he has done?We explore the rich language of radiance and exact representation, unpacking the ancient seal-and-wax imagery that shows the Son bears the very nature of God in human flesh. From identity flows mission: he upholds all things by his powerful word, makes purification for sins, and then sits down at the right hand of Majesty. That seated posture declares the work is finished and the King is enthroned. Along the way, we trace a web of Old Testament citations—Psalms 2, 45, and more—that anchor Trinitarian theology in the Hebrew Scriptures, not in later speculation. This conversation is for listeners who want sturdy, text-driven clarity: Jesus is not a created being, not merely a messenger, and not a rival deity. He is the worthy one whose name is more excellent than the angels, the rightful heir of David's throne, and the ruler with a righteous scepter who loves righteousness and hates lawlessness. For anyone under pressure or tempted to drift, Hebrews 1 offers more than comfort; it offers a captivating vision of Christ that fuels endurance, worship, and hope.If this deep dive strengthened your faith, follow the show, share it with a friend who loves careful Bible study, and leave a rating so more people can rediscover the power and beauty of Hebrews.Support the showThank you for listening!!
