Thoughts—Feelings—Actions What kind of stories are you telling yourself when things don't go right? Everyone has stories they tell themselves when they're trying to understand or interpret a situation. Most times, especially when it comes to family relationships, we tell stories that include the WORST-CASE SCENARIO. Don't let these thoughts rule you or your relationships! Ask the right questions, get in control of them, and build (don't tear down) your relationships Reach out or contact... -Visit the website Structured Therapeutic Housing in Cedar City | Outpatient Therapy Service (irongatetherapy.com) -Email at admissions@irongatetherapy.com or join the Facebook group, Parenting Your Adult Child -Call at 435-868-8391 -Message on Instagram @irongatetherapy or on LinkedIn
Thanks for joining me today, finding inner peace. Today I am forgiving the stories I tell myself. I forgive just running the same old program. I forgive not trying to forgive old beliefs. I forgive saying I'm not good enough, not smart enough. I forgive letting these stories run my life. I forgive these stories controlling me. I love myself. I love, I can change the story. I don't have to keep repeating the same old stories. I love myself. What are you forgiving? What are you letting go? Let me know, let's find inner peace together. This is my routine, this is what works for me, for finding my inner peace. Join me, follow me, lets forgive together. All you need is a pen and paper, and 15 - 20 minutes, (hopefully) but you can change my routine to fit your lifestyle. Pick one topic or word to forgive, start small, the tv remote, car keys, a word you don't use very often etc. Put you can move mountains. Write down every thought about the tv remote or your topic that your forgiving. After about 5 minutes of writing down your forgiveness. Go over it, look at everything you wrote down. Now that you have looked it over, take a couple of minutes and write what you love about the topic. Now you see it differently, you have a whole new perspective of it. Then throw it out. The feeling of throwing out the paper is to symbolize you letting go of these thoughts. Then find a safe comfortable location to meditate for 5 minutes, forgiving all thoughts that come to your awareness. Forgiveness is the key, Forgiveness will set you free. Forgiveness is the key to seeing love again. You are LOVE. Always remember to make time for yourself. Have the greatest day ever, you found inner peace. You don't have to fight your thoughts anymore. Just forgive them, you might have to do this 8 times a day for weeks even months. But after you will have moved a mountain. You can do anything, proud of YOU!!!!! love and peace. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/myforgivenessroutine/message
Do others often commend you on your abilities, expertise, and accomplishments? Think about the last time you were recognized for an achievement, invited to present something, or join a group. Did you acknowledge the role your leadership played in that opportunity or did you downplay your abilities? Do you set unrealistic goals and then get upset with yourself when you don't reach them? Are you overly sensitive to constructive criticism? If so you will not want to miss this episode as I talk about imposter syndrome and ways to combat it.
In this week's episode we welcome author and former NBA player Paul Shirley to the podcast. Paul has written four books to include one that covers his journey from college, to playing international to eventually making it to the NBA. Paul discusses coming from a small town, what was inside him that gave him that drive to make it to the NBA, and the best and worst parts of playing at a high major college, internationally and the NBA. We also talk about some stories from his books to include yelling at Scottie Pippen on the Bulls team plane. His second book, “Stories I Tell on Dates,” is one of the funniest books I have ever read. What You Will Learn:[1:56] What did Paul's small town possess that helped him get to the highest level.[4:01] Strength coaches and trainers[8:34] What is the main attribute that players who go to the NBA possess?[11:23] Would one be successful without that “certain feeling” inside?[13:00] What did Paul's professional teammates around the world possess?[17:46] The best and worst part of playing at a high major college program.[20:30] The best and worst part of playing in an international professional league?[23:06] Did Paul want to get back to the US to play in the NBA or did he enjoy playing in Europe?[24:46] The best and worst parts of playing in the NBA[26:52] Interesting NBA fact[30:00] Being an author and a story about yelling at Scottie Pippen on the Bulls chartered plane.[47:43] Favorite Movie[47:50] Best player played against?[51:14] Most points scored in a game?[52:48] Favorite arena to play?[55:51] Biggest win of career?[57:49] Best concert of all time? Less than 0.002% of athletes become professional athletes. Less than 13.4% of writers become published writers. To do both is nearly impossible. Good news! We have found the outliers. Authors Kevin Owens, Paul Shirley and Sean McCaw sit down for a roundtable discussion of their careers and how they transitioned into writers. Paul Shirley, the pioneer of an athlete turing author and the writer of Can I Keep My Jersey, Stories I Tell on Dates and Ball Boy, and Sean McCaw author of Same Name Different Game discuss with Kevin, author of Overseas Famous, the writing process, who influenced their writing and how they remained relevant after retirement. All this and more of this fantastic episode of Overseas Famous Athletes to Authors.
It can be impactful to hear men share vulnerable, openly about their programming and the willful effort to choose to show up for feelings when their social programming hasn't put importance and value on doing that: feeling feelings, letting feelings be ok, and creating space for feelings to be expressed. As a man, I have ended up with a whole bunch of stories that even after 5 years of radical self-reflecting and healing with the inner child inside ARE STILL ongoing. Perhaps I just have more awareness on how to spot these stories that are all old ways of avoiding feelings and allowing them to be. Revealing is healing in so many more ways than one... So that's what I know works.... What I seem to forget is to also each time ask myself "do i want to keep doing it like this" because choice creates space for change or transforming old ways into ways that feel really more natural to be like. here we go :) revealing to allow the healing through the feelings to occur! yay! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bravenewlifeways/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bravenewlifeways/support

Today's podcast is part of our ongoing series Tales from the Bench and even though our guest Paul Shirley later started for Iowa State and went on to play overseas and in the NBA I first heard about him from his writing which he did from the Phoenix Suns Bench. His first novel Ball Boy is coming out or may already be out by the time you listen to this. I ordered my copy on Amazon and you should do the same. It is a bit like a reverse Karate Kid and tells a story that has Paul's sense of humor and command for the written word. He also has other books and a Podcast called Stories I Tell on Dates. Hi. I'm Jason Norris, and I love exploring ideas. Any idea!On the nonfiction side, I usually stick with ideas about:education; instructional design; on-the-go learningcommunication; local podcastingfaithBut I have a creative side that longs to tell stories.Fictional stories!I have lots of ideas for stories. But. An “idea” is not a story. So I've decided to try something.I'm going to create stories and share them—with you.I'm pushing the ideas out of my imagination and straight into your mind. Some stories are science fiction. Some feel more down to earth. To start with, it's just you and me. Imagine we're sitting around a campfire sharing stories. Yeah. That's it.Occasionally, I might sprinkle in some music to enhance the story. Perhaps a few sound effects. But the main point is for me—to tell you—stories. If you like them, let me know and I'll keep telling. And if you're a kindhearted soul, maybe you can offer feedback to help me become a better storyteller. The GapThere is that frustrating gap. You've heard about this, right? There's a gap between what we think we know, what we can imagine in our hearts and minds—and then what we're actually able to accomplish, especially when we're just starting.I'm trying to jump that gap! So I'm going to share these imperfect stories with you. And the more I work at it, the better I'll get. Especially with your feedback.StorytellingIn return, I will share what I'm learning about storytelling. Telling stories is not just a gift that some people are born with and others are not. It's a craft. It requires skill. Anyone can study the principles of storytelling and become better storytellers. That's what I'm doing. I'm exploring the idea of storytelling. And if you'd like to write and create stories, maybe we can learn something and jump that gap together.I'm glad you're hereWhether you simply want to listen to stories or learn something about storytelling, thanks for taking time to listen and read.Join me for the Stories I Tell at JasonNorris.com.

Some things happened yesterday. I had to watch the stories that I told myself about the things that happen. In the Past I would have said Oh this is a bad thing and it happened to me because I'm unworthy or a bad person. When I told those kind of stories to myself I was miserable. Now I tell myself a different story. The new story leads to happiness for me. Changing your story can lead to happiness for you. I have tips and tricks to change your story. We all tell ourselves stories all the time: stories that have their roots in our earliest experiences. These stories carry our expectations of others, the world, and ourselves, and shape our responses to every situation and interaction. In this episode, we explore how to become aware of the stories we tell ourselves, and Gloria models a simple but profound process for uncovering and releasing the unconscious contracts that give these stories such a hold on us.

He's played in the NBA, and stands over 2 metres tall in his socks, but Paul Shirley isn't your typical basketball jock. For starters he's a talented writer, doesn't take himself too seriously, and was a self-confessed late bloomer who had limited early success with the ladies. 'Stories I Tell on Dates' by Paul Shirley is produced by Lunch Break Entertainment.
Ex-NBA basketball player, Paul Shirley joins Kristen to talk about how he used sports and basketball as therapy as a child and how it still helps him as an adult. He also talks about the OCD he had to have in order to make it to the professional level, having a father as his biggest critic and how he goes to therapy once a month. They also talk about dating with depression and do a few segments including "Who's Sadder" and "Schizofilmia" where Kristen talks about a movie NOT to watch but a book to read instead. The FadeAway with Deon Thomas and Eric Schmidt - Episode 10 Paul Shirley, Author, Stories I Tell on Dates / Former NBA Player He blogged before anyone knew what a “blog” was, he famously asked a LOT of team owners if he could keep his jersey, he played on one of the best NBA teams of all time, and now he’s released his second book. Former NBA player Paul Shirley joins Deon and Eric to talk about Paul’s book, “Stories I Tell on Dates”, as well as sharing some of his stories about playing pro hoops, and how he found his way to his new career. “Stories I Tell on Dates” isn’t just about dating, or hoops. It’s a book about how a professional athlete works to relate to others, and it shares stories very similar to things many of us grew up with (albeit with a lot more humor!). The book isn’t just for basketball fans…anyone should be able to relate to the stories, and will find Paul’s writing introspective, humorous, and enjoyable. It's not what other people do to me that's painful, it's that the stories I tell about it. When Google suspended my AdWords account back in 2012, it was really painful to see the e-mail because I had just run my first successful ad campaign. However, the real pain came from the bitter resentment I felt towards Google years after my account was suspended. The original suspension hurt, but the angry feelings I harbored towards Google years later are what caused me the most pain.
