OK, perhaps "obsessed" is a little over the top, because technically ZEST itself only showed up once, as per custom; but the clues and answers were still quite snappy. Our particular favorite? 46D, Producers of six-packs, SITUPS (nice!). We were also delighted to see 15A, King of the gods, in Egyptian myth, AMON. And while AMON may not translate as "God of Aliases", since AMON is aka AMUN, AMUNRA, AMONRA and AMUNRE, we would not be surprised if it did.For the deets, and some interesting listener mail, have a listen, and feel free to leave us a five star review wherever you are listening to this podcast.Show note imagery: Kobe Bryant, shooting a FADEAWAY.We love feedback! In this episode, we'll challenge old habits, explore how staying stuck in the past could be costing you, and discuss real-world strategies to keep your shop relevant and profitable. Let's tune in!

The stories we tell ourselves shape the lives we live. Some push us forward. Others hold us back. But here's the thing—those stories aren't set in stone. You can change them. It's about choosing it. Featured on MTV, Chris brings no-nonsense coaching, real-life insight, and the kind of practical wisdom that makes change possible. Today's poem is Fade Away by Amorak Huey. The Slowdown is your daily poetry ritual. In this episode, Major writes… “I cannot fully explain my renewed love for vinyl. All I know is that for eight weekends straight, I have found myself randomly walking into a record store. Although you might know me to be nostalgic, I do not uphold the golden days of analog and denigrate all things digital. Today's poem insists our lives, like so many analog recordings, are raw, unadorned, layered, full of disruptions and distortions.” Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, show the ones you love just how much they mean to you, and share your appreciation and gratitude for the gift of life, the gift of love, and the gift of energy that we all share. Thank you ALL for the gift of YOUR love and our collective friendship.Nobody embodies the mindset of gratitude more so than my friend, John Macario. Though John and I have yet to meet in person, we recently connected via a communal, music-centric group that we both belong to on social media. I was struck by John's story. Specifically, I was struck by the story of his true and his unconditional love for his wife, Meg, who at the time was fighting for her life following an organ transplant. John bravely shared Meg's journey with the group throughout the months, weeks, and days leading up to her untimely passing in late July 2024. In turn, the community was not shy to show their boundless support and compassion for John, Meg, their daughter, Gloria, and the extended Macario family.Initially our friendship began with a series of DM's and texts, followed by a conversation, then with the interview here on Grateful Dad & Friends. John brings us back to the day he first laid eyes on Meg in a VIP suite at Madison Square Garden in 2010, and he opens up about how their love grew in the weeks and months that followed, culminating with their wedding on New Year's Eve the following year. The rest, as they say, is history...John shares insights into how he and Gloria (now 12) are living their “new normal” without Meg and how music helps them heal. Keep an ear out for the story of Gloria's attachment to Jerry Garcia Band's 1980 rendition of After Midnight and how one of John's lullabies happens to be one of my own all-time favorites, Keep on Growing. Finally, here are two takeaways from my newfound friendship with John that I'm proud to share. The first: BECOME AN ORGAN DONOR. As Phil Lesh said hundreds of times, all you need to do is say to someone you love, “Hey, if anything should ever happen to me, I want to be an organ donor.” And check that box on your license. That's it.The second: LOVE IS REAL. And well… you know the rest.Join us, and let's see where the energy takes us! #IFE #NFA

Hey Now! This week the Deadpod takes us to Portland Maine, for a show that took place at the Cumberland County Civic Center on September 17, 1982. This 12 song first set is a concise reading of many of their standards. Brent and Phil are upfront in the mix and overall I find these quite enjoyable. There is a false start in 'Me & My Uncle' which is quite unusual, and we have 'Dupree's' 2 weeks in a row- I'm sure that's a Deadpod record ;) Grateful Dead Cumberland County Civic Center Portland, ME 9/17/1982 - Friday One Bertha [6:25] > The Promised Land [4:02] Candyman [6:31] > C C Rider [8:16] Althea [7:47] Me And My Uncle [3:15] > Big River [5:36] Dupree's Diamond Blues [5:48] It's All Over Now [7:04] West L.A. Holy Smokes! It's Labor Day weekend! Hopefully this second set from the second Field Trip at the Oregon Country Fairgrounds can help you get in the mood for some fun and frolic as we celebrate the passing of another summer... This one starts with the debut of 'Keep Your Day Job' -- and not in the encore slot! Another debut - 'West LA Fadeaway' is also on the menu here. The pre-drums 'Playin In the Band' lifts things up while the post drums 'Wheel'>'Other One' is probably the highlight of this set.. Jerry pulls out a very unusual 'Dupree's Diamond Blues' as the encore here which I'm sure delighted the faithful.. We're talking all things Faye Dunaway. The ‘Faye' documentary just came out on HBO MAX and boy is it a crazy one. We get into her iconic performances in ‘Chinatown', ‘Network', ‘Bonnie and Clyde' and the context around them. And also her widely perceived misfire of ‘Mommie Dearest'. Was it her performance, or the script, or what? We get into it. Why are there so many Faye Dunaway memes, and is this deserved? Is she severe and cruel, or just one of the best actresses of all time? Ryan provides context around how she was perceived before and after ‘Mommie Dearest', and what made her as iconic as she was. ALSO. What is talent? Does it grow like a pearl or is it porous? Enjoy.

We had the pleasure of interviewing CLAY over Zoom video!Alt-pop artist CLAY (she/they) has released her new single and music video “Fade Away.” Written after a break-up, the restorative track speaks on trusting time to absorb the memories of a former lover, alleviating the emotional stress that comes with the process. Using nature as the antidote to her broken heart, the visual sees CLAY in a getaway car as she drives to the beach to release her emotions and commit to herself again. On the release, CLAY shares, “Just like the accompanying video, this song is meant to be played full blast in the car on a sunny afternoon when you finally are ready to move on. It's the moment you're ready to fall in love with yourself again, ready to let that world-shattering, earth-shaking love go. In this song, I am letting love fade into the sky, into the ocean, into the elements of nature that I have always trusted wholeheartedly. Nature, the god I worship, whose feet I bow to. Releasing the love that was once all-consuming back to where it came from. Back into the power of the earth and her elements, her glory. Taking on that glory for myself. Taking my power back. Learning to love myself as fiercely as I once loved her. Playful, joyful, embodied.”“Fade Away” is the third single from CLAY's highly anticipated EP Waiting for God in the Garden, out May 24th. The track appears alongside the previously released “Think of You,” which speaks on the idea that love shared between two people should not be deemed wasted just because the relationship has come to an end, and the EP's introspective title track which sees her coming to terms with the importance of tending to and loving yourself fully. On the multi-faceted 6-track collection, CLAY enters a new era driven by the exploration of self-discovery and empowerment, embracing the transformative power of self-love. To date, songs from the project have garnered more than 935K streams, earned media support from the likes of Rolling Stone, GLAAD, Spindle Magazine, and Glasse Factory, and landed on Spotify's New Music Friday, Chill Pop, Fresh Finds R&B, Lowkey, and Good Vibes playlists.CLAY is currently gearing up for the Waiting for God in the Garden tour which kicks off on May 3rd. The tour marks her first full headlining run across the U.S. with performances in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, New York, Nashville, and Denver before wrapping in San Francisco on June 1st. Join her this spring for an unforgettable experience where music transcends boundaries and CLAY's fantasy world comes to life. Tickets are on sale now, see full tour routing below. For more details visit http://iamclayofficial.com.The Los-Angeles based artist makes music as a vessel for healing and connection. With a voice that resonates with raw emotion and lyrics that captivate like poetry, CLAY takes listeners on a journey through the depths of human experience. Hailing from the vibrant flower-child city of San Francisco, CLAY's passion for social justice and a commitment to uplift marginalized communities stems from upbringing. Proudly embracing her identity as a queer and neurodivergent artist, she uses her platform to create a safe space for all to express themselves freely. As an independent artist, she remains dedicated to preserving her creative integrity and autonomy, a stance that has earned her dedicated listeners and critical acclaim. 'Cold Rain and Snow' follows, then we get the first of several fun little interlude before a great version of 'Hey Pockey Way' with Brent doing a fine version. Since they are in Cali, Jerry breaks out a 'West L.A. Fadeaway'. 'Me & My Uncle>Big River' follows, then an excellent 'To Lay Me Down'. 'Cassidy' into 'Don't Ease' closes set 1. I have chosen to feature a fine audience recording of this set which really captures the energy of the day.. I hope you agree! Why rent when you can buy? Luxury retailers are booming and using their extra cash to buy up highly coveted retail spaces across the U.S. and Europe. Prada bought the building where its Fifth Avenue store is located for $425 million, while LVMH is said to be in talks to purchase the building where Bergdorf Goodman, a men's store, is located. Meanwhile, Gucci and Balenciaga's parent company, Kering, bought a property on Fifth Avenue for $963 million, expanding its real estate portfolio, which already includes landmark properties in Paris and Tokyo.
