The Jason & Mindy Podcast

In this episode, Jason and Mindy discuss various topics, including the cleanliness of pillowcases, the health benefits of eating avocados, and the rules of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They also share some entertainment news, including Jojo Siwa's plans for motherhood and Britney Spears' response to criticism.https://www.youtube.com/@lowtreestudioshttps://www.lowtreestudios.com/GERMS DON'T REST – EVEN WHEN YOU DO:A media report quotes Dr. Gareth Nye, a program lead for medical science, as saying: “Your pillowcases could be considered dirtier than the toilet.” The good news? The good doctor also feels that since the bacteria on your pillowcase “are very likely to be from you to begin with, therefore (they) aren't harmful.” That doesn't mean, however, that you can just let your pillows bathe in your perspiration all summer long. Studies show that we can lose 500-700ml of sweat on an average night – which is absorbed by night clothing or bedding. Dr. Nye points to one study that found a typical pillow has as many as 16 different species of fungus and literally millions of fungus spores. He suggests we wash our sheets and pillowcases at least once per week – perhaps slightly less often if you sleep alone. ⇒ A new study says that eating one avocado every day has some amazing health benefits, including improved sleep and diet quality. Penn State University researchers say they were already aware that eating avocados is linked to lowered risk of cardiovascular disease, but this new study found that people who consumed avocados on a daily basis for 6 months saw an improvement in their scores for sleep health, diet quality and blood lipids, such as cholesterol, without adversely affecting body weight.SURPRISE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME RULES:Gwen Stefani is getting her own star tomorrow, which means she must have passed these perhaps-unexpected rules…✪ Anyone can nominate a star: There is a $250 fee to submit an application. Applications must include a written promise from the star or his/her rep to attend the star unveiling, if approved. And the applicant has to agree to financially sponsor the star presentation. More about those coming up…✪ The star must attend the unveiling: This is known as the “Springsteen Clause”, after he was nominated by a fan, and it was discovered there was nothing in writing that said the star must show up to be honored. (We're guessing they make exceptions for the dead?)✪ Someone has to pay for it: When it started in 1987, a star cost about $3,500. This year? $55,000. Next year? $75,000, “due to rising costs”. And who pays? The person who does the nominating is responsible for “sponsorship costs” once accepted.✪ Stars have a two-year window to schedule their ceremony: From the website: “Those selected for stars have a 2-year time frame in which to set their ceremony date” before the selections expire.✪ There are special rules for posthumous honors: Ah – here we are. Just one posthumous award can be given each year. And these must be a 2 year or more wait after the date of the star's death, to prevent marginal stars from being swept in by emotion immediately after their death. (Because there are no “marginal stars” already enshrined, are there? I'm looking at you, Chris Berman, Tinker Bell, and Guy Fieri!)✪ It requires at least a 5-year career: To receive a star, one must achieve longevity in their entertainment category of 5 years or more”. (So much for 15 minutes of fame?)✪ Companies can't receive stars (but there's an asterisk): The Walk of Fame Committee does something else called the Awards of Excellence. These are done on private property. They look like a Walk of Fame star, with a different font. For example, at the El Capitan Theatre, there is a star for the Disney Company, on private property, adjacent to the Walk of Fame.ENTERTAINMENT...

Representative from Gwinnett a part of House Speaker vote controversy

One of the 20 Republican members of Congress who have been backing GOP challengers to U.S. Representative Kevin McCarthy's bid to become Speaker of the House is also one of Gwinnett's three congressional representatives. U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde a Republican, is the only member of Georgia's congressional delegation who is backing U.S. Representative Byron Donalds, a Florida Republican, in the speaker vote. As of Wednesday afternoon, Congress had voted six times over a span of two days to elect a speaker, but none of the three candidates — including one Democrat — have received the 218 votes needed to become speaker. Republicans make up a narrow majority in the House, but McCarthy, who has been a house minority leaders for years, has been 17 votes shy of the total needed because 20 Republicans aligned with the Freedom Caucus have chosen to support other Republicans for the speaker's seat. On Wednesday, the group of Republicans refusing to back McCarthy, which also include Representatives Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert, pooled their support around Donalds. Congress can't conduct any other business, including swearing in its members and setting rules for the chamber, until a speaker is chosen, leaving the chamber unable to function. This is the first time in a century that a vote on selecting a speaker has gone to multiple ballots. In truth, all three of Gwinnett's congressional representatives are backing a different person in the speaker vote. As expected, Representative Lucy McBath, a Democrat, is backing her party's nominee for the seat, Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York. It's how the two Republican members of Congress who represent he northern half of Gwinnett vote that is key, however. While Clyde is backing Donalds, new Representative Rich McCormick, also Republican, is backing McCarthy. Prior to the four rounds of voting on Wednesday, when he began supporting Donalds, Clyde backed Representative Andy Biggs, of Arizona in the first round of voting on Tuesday, before moving his support to Representative Jim Jordan, of Ohio — even though Jordan himself was backing McCarthy. Although it wasn't necessarily a vacation, the Brookwood High School Bronco Marching Band recently completed a history-making holiday sojourn to Southern California. On January 2, the Bronco Marching Band performed in the iconic Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., the first high school ensemble from Gwinnett County to take part in the parade, which has been a holiday tradition for more than 130 years. A collection of more than 330 people, including 215 performers, family and friends made the trip to California. It typically takes a bad 7 to 8 years to be selected after they apply to perform in the parade. Brookwood had originally applied to take part in the 2018 parade but the COVID pandemic prevented an earlier trip. Students had to raise about $2,800 each for the trip, which also included visits to Disneyland (where a New Year's Eve parade performance in the park was scuttled due to the weather), Universal Studios, the El Capitan Theatre (where they saw “Avatar: The Way of Water”), the Griffith Observatory and a walking tour of Hollywood movie locations. The parade itself appears both thrilling and exhausting, covering some 5.5 miles, starting at the corner of Green Street and Orange Blossom Boulevard and heading to its conclusion on Villa Street in the City of Roses. Slotted fifth in a parade of 88 participants, the Bronco Marching Band (one of only 15 high school marching bands in the parade) performed “From Now On” from “The Greatest Showman” for the first mile and then played the song in rotation with Strauss' “Also Sprach Zarathustra” and “The Hey! Song” from “Dr. Who.” The Bronco Marching Band also performed in the 42nd annual Tournament of Roses Bandfest at Pasadena City College on December 30. Two Norcross residents have been arrested and charged with murder in the death of the Norcross man who was found dead near the doorway of his home last month. Nelson Cisneros died near his home on Stanfield Court in unincorporated Norcross on December 15. At the time, police said he had been shot but they had not identified suspects or a motive for Cisneros' death. On Wednesday, however, Master Police Officer Hideshi Valle said detectives identified Norcross residents Requel Rayshawn Johnson, and Antonio Montez Payne , as suspects. They have each been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. Gwinnett County Jail records show Johnson was arrested on December 27 and Payne was arrested on Tuesday. Valle said the Gwinnett County Police Department's Gang Unit as well as the Gwinnett Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit assisted detectives in arresting Johnson and Payne. The suspects are being held in the county jail without bond. Police have not yet released the motive for the murder. Rebekah Blankenship, an eighth grade social studies teacher at Berkmar Middle School, was recently named a recipient of the June Bryant Teacher of Promise Award by the Georgia Council for Social Studies. The award recognizes a beginning social studies teacher who shows exceptional promise in the field of teaching social studies. Recipients of the honor must demonstrate efforts toward the improvement of student learning and engagement in social studies and implement activities that demonstrate the beginnings of service and foster the development of democratic values and citizenship in the classroom, school, and community. Additionally, the teacher seeks out and uses multiple sources to enhance social studies instruction while engaging in ongoing professional development. During her first two years of teaching, Blankenship has demonstrated the ability to develop and implement engaging lessons for students, her principal said. Encouraging special-needs students to become part of the fabric of Jones Middle School has been a priority for Jaclyn Boyce and Ashley Saye for more than a dozen years, but the special-education teachers have cranked it up a notch for the 2022-23 school year. Boyce, who teaches students with severe and profound intellectual disabilities, and Saye, who teaches students with moderate intellectual disabilities, are both firm believers in getting their charges out of the classroom and into the general student population in an effort to improve their sense of belonging at the Buford school by participating in daily activities. Starting 13 years ago with the establishment of the Buddies Club, Boyce and Saye developed a host of initiatives to get their students out and about in the halls and they're constantly seeking out new opportunities for the students to interact with their schoolmates. Buddies Club also includes monthly social events taking place both in and outside of the school walls, with visits to a nearby corn maze and movie theaters as highlights. Other inclusive efforts include having students serve on the student council and as peer leaders, which Saye said gives students a chance to develop and display leadership skills and boost confidence alongside their same-age peers. Some students — there are about 15 intellectually disabled students at Jones Middle — also visit home rooms to interact with students and teachers, help out in the school's media center, eat lunch in the cafeteria (or invite students to dine with them in their classrooms) and take part in Connections classes, which Boyce said provides great opportunities for social experiences. Perhaps the most novel recent initiative has been “JonesDash,” based on the popular DoorDash food delivery service. Several times a week, faculty members place orders for snacks and drinks and students do the rest, writing receipts, tracking down the items requested in the school's small “store,” delivering the orders to teachers and collecting payments. Carmen Smith, a Sugar Hill Elementary School advanced math teacher, has been nominated for the 2022-2023 National LifeChanger of the Year Award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership. Smith was nominated by her friend and neighbor, Nikki Soroko, for her humility and work in the classroom. Each school year, the LifeChanger of the Year award receives hundreds of nominations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Eighteen individual LifeChanger of the Year awards will be given during the 2022-2023 school year, including: ♦ One grand prize winner who will receive $10,000 to be shared with their school/district.  Four grand prize finalists who will receive $5,000 to be shared with their school/district. ♦ 10 LifeChanger Award winners who will receive $3,000 to be shared with their school/district. ♦ One Spirit Award winner. This award is given to the nominee whose community demonstrates the most support for their nomination. The winner will receive $5,000 to be shared with their school/district. ♦ One Capstone Award winner. This award is given to a nominee retiring at the end of the 2021-22 school year. The winner will receive $3,000 to be shared with their school or district. ♦ One Spotlight Award winner. This award is given to a nominee in a specific discipline each year. The winner will receive $5,000 to be shared with their school or district. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Black Panther. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sequel to Black Panther (2018) and the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, the film stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Martin Freeman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Angela Bassett. In the film, the leaders of Wakanda fight to protect their nation in the wake of King T'Challa's death. Ideas for a sequel began after the release of Black Panther in February 2018. Coogler negotiated to return as director in the following months, and Marvel Studios officially confirmed the sequel's development in mid-2019. Plans for the film changed in August 2020 when Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died from colon cancer, with Marvel choosing not to recast his role of T'Challa. Other main cast members from the first film were confirmed to return by that November, and the title was announced in May 2021. Production initially took place from late June to early November 2021, in Atlanta and Brunswick, Georgia, as well as around Massachusetts, before a hiatus to allow Wright to recover from an injury sustained during filming. Production resumed by mid-January 2022 and wrapped in late March in Puerto Rico. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered at the El Capitan Theatre and the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on October 26, 2022, and was released in the United States on November 11, 2022, as the final film in Phase Four of the MCU. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the cast's performances (particularly Wright's, Huerta's, and Bassett's), emotional weight, Coogler's direction, action sequences, musical score, and tribute to Boseman. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Thor: Love and Thunder is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Thor, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the direct sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the script with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Waititi, Russell Crowe, and Natalie Portman. In the film, Thor attempts to find inner peace, but must return to action and recruit Valkyrie (Thompson), Korg (Waititi), and Jane Foster (Portman)—who is now the Mighty Thor—to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Bale) from eliminating all gods. Hemsworth and Waititi had discussed plans for a sequel to Ragnarok by January 2018. Love and Thunder was announced in July 2019, with Hemsworth, Waititi, and Thompson all set to return, as well as Portman who did not appear in Ragnarok. Waititi wanted to differentiate Love and Thunder from Ragnarok, seeking to make a romance film and 1980s-inspired adventure. He adapted elements from Jason Aaron's run on the Mighty Thor comic book, which sees Foster take on the mantle and powers of Thor whilst suffering from cancer. Robinson joined to contribute to the script in February 2020, and further casting was revealed later that year including the appearance of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Production was expected to begin in late 2020 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming ultimately began in January 2021 in Sydney, Australia, and concluded at the beginning of June. Thor: Love and Thunder premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on June 23, 2022, and was released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The film received praise for its light-heartedness and cast performances (particularly those of Bale and Portman), but was criticized for its tonal inconsistency and screenplay. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

It seems that the closure of the parks has lead to deterioration of some of the buildings on the lagoon that house some of the projection equipment. The old buildings have been dismantled and are being rebuilt, exposing the rusted interior. No word on when World of Color will be returning, but it needs some TLC before then. – https://www.micechat.com/291137-disneyland-update-part-2-new-adventures-arriving-soon/ Next time you are using one of the outdoor portable sinks that have been setup, take a look at the theming. Be prepared (haha) for a great episode all about the first Los Angeles production of "The Lion King" from one of the cast members herself: Carla Renata! You may know Carla as Janet from the NBC sitcom "Superstore," or from her YouTube channel "The Curvy Critic aka Carla Renata," but from 2000 to 2003 she also had the unique experience of playing Shenzi in the long-running hit show "The Lion King" at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Jessica and Melanie have a heartfelt, frank, and funny discussion with Carla about auditioning for the production, rehearsing at the El Capitan Theatre, the star-studded opening night, and her favorite moments as part of the original L.A. cast. Jessica also discusses the impact that "The Lion King" had on Broadway and the show's journey to becoming an international sensation, while Melanie shares details about the extensive remodel of the historic Pantages that was done to accommodate the production and bring the theatre back to its former glory. To listen to Carla's interview with Florence Kasumba, who played Shenzi in Disney's live action film "The Lion King," go to https://youtu.be/A-gIX67lMBw. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo the Great, the whole gang is back for a new show on ABC. The Muppets premieres this Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. And the thing that has us really excited about the show is it's taking the behind-the-scenes antics that were part of the original Muppet Show and bringing them up to date. So, instead of seeing what goes on backstage while the Muppets desperately attempt to put on a theatrical review, we get to see what goes on behind the scenes as the Muppets attempt to produce a night-time TV talk show, Up Late With Miss Piggy.   The Muppets is a reality show—well, as much of a reality show as a show about the Muppets can be. It comes complete with handheld camerawork, celebrity guest stars, and intimate one-on-one conversations with the cast. In fact, we're going to get a little taste of that in today's show. Joining Tim today are some of the cast of The Muppets, starting with the green guy himself, Kermit the Frog.     On Monday, September 21st, one of our favorite modern-era Disney animated films is going to be celebrating its 15th anniversary with a special screening at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. The Emperor's New Groove will be shown at 7:00 p.m. and will be introduced by an esteemed panel of artists: the film's executive producer Don Hahn, director Mark Dindal, producer Randy Fullmer and screenwriter David Reynolds. In May of last year, Don Hahn was Tim's guest in The Mouse Castle Lounge and among the many things they talked about was The Emperor's New Groove. Return with us, if you will, to that show and hear what Don had to say about this extremely funny, irreverent and unlikely fan favorite. For our friends in the Los Angeles area, tickets are still available to see The Emperor's New Groove on the big screen (and Don Hahn and Mark Dindal and Randy Fullmer and Mark Reynolds). Just call 1-800-Disney6 or visit www.ElCapitanTickets.com. The doors open at 6:00 Monday night and the screening starts at 7:00. We highly recommend you get there early for trivia, a costume contest and a whole lot more.      Enjoy!   www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss

Toys For Games 'Cast - Collecting, playing with, and discussing toys-to-life

Toys For Games welcomes the start of September, as Josh and Jason are back for Episode 35! This week they aren’t alone, however, as they brought on a special guest to help celebrate the launch of Disney Infinity 3.0! Straight from the Toy Box Summit, and in-between shifts at the popcorn stand in the El Capitan Theatre, it’s Mighty Gitis aka Lauren (@MightyLauren)! As an in-game character, a Disney Infinity celebrity and master of the Toy Box, Lauren brought with her lots of stories from the Toy Box Summit and tons of insightful wisdom regarding every aspect of the game. The trio also got to answer several DI-specific emails as well, many of which were directed to Mighty Gitis herself!   Don’t worry, Skylanders SuperChargers, LEGO Dimensions and of course, amiibo, are talked about as well! Despite it being Disney Infinity 3.0 launch week, the other toys-to-life franchises haven’t steered completely clear of Mickey Mouse and gang. LEGO Dimensions revealed the Midway Arcade Level Pack, Skylanders are looking BEAUTIFUL, and Shovel Knight is kicking down the amiibo door.   Time Stamps: Disney Infinity 3.0 w/ Mighty Gitis - The start, up until 1:34:40 Emails - 1:34:45 LEGO Dimensions - 2:04:13 Skylanders SuperChargers - 2:17:35 Nintendo’s amiibo - 2:30:25 #CommunityQuestion - 2:45:55

The Getty Villa, the Griffith Observatory, and El Capitan Theatre... man, Solid Cat is all over Los Angeles. First off, as a good rule of thumb, don't throw a punch at your producer. Depression lies. In 1998, D-mo made Lisa Loeb the Green Lantern; this was favorited by Lisa Loeb herself on Twitter in 2015. Val got kicked in the face; literally a foot to the face. We have fun historical facts about Magellan. Mr. T pities the tool; yes, the tool. Camels go missing in Missouri; they may or may not be gay; Cher may or may not be involved. The Most Interesting Man in the World can't get you out of a carpool violation ticket. What is the "Most Canadian Photo Ever?" We review the new live action Cinderella, and following that up with a review of Greenblatt's deli in the Space Cowboy Kitchen. We play Superfight again on Solid Cat Game Night, and we're sorry for any relationships we may have broken up due to our gameplay. Editors! Do you job! And we end with Val making fun of how D-mo runs. What's up with that? This is Solid Cat.
