Victor Prieto es un artista madrileño, melómano e inquieto, que combina a la perfección en sus sets, tres platos technics (y hasta cuatro en ocasiones) y una TR8 de Roland que dan a sus sesiones ese toque personal que pocos saben imprimir hoy en día. Profesionalidad y precisión a los platos y un exquisito gusto musical convierten cada sesión suya en una auténtica obra de arte.

This week our guest is guitarist/composer Richard Padrón. Born in Cuba, raised in Miami and currently residing in NYC, Richard has made a name for himself as a sideman with Zé Luis Oliveira, Lauren Hill, Victor Prieto and many other eclectic groups in New York. He also writes and records with his own group and has been commissioned to compose for orchestra and film alike. In this interview he discusses finding and carving out a niche for himself as a guitarist, composer, bandleader and recording artist in the challenging and often unforgiving climate of New York City. 

Grammy nominee and jazz accordionist Victor Prieto graduated from Berklee in 2002. Born in Spain, the New York City-based composer and bandleader writes music that combines jazz, classical, tango, Celtic, and Brazilian music with sounds steeped in his Galician heritage. This episode features Prieto in a duo setting with fellow Berklee alumnus and saxophonist Chris Cheek, who plays soprano on "Chatting with Chris." Both musicians are performing at Berklee in November 2015 in an NPR broadcast filmed and recorded at Berklee's Cafe 939 in the year's first installation of the music series, The Checkout—Live at Berklee.

Argentinian pianist Emilio Solla calls his band The Tango Jazz Conspiracy, but that's about the only genre label you'll find him using for his music -- and he's not even sure what "tango jazz" really means. On his album Bien Sur! (Fresh Sound, 2010), Solla is joined by A-list musicians such as Chris Cheek, Richie Barshay, Victor Prieto and Jorge Roeder.
