Friends of the Rosary,Today, January 21, the faithful celebrate the feast of St. Agnes, one of the most notorious martyrs of ancient Rome, along with St. Cecilia. She was a young virgin martyred under the Roman emperor Diocletian around the year 304.Devotion to her is of ancient standing, and two churches in Rome commemorate her witness. Agnes is invoked in the canon of the Mass, in the Eucharistic Prayer I.The name of "Agnes" means "lamb-life." The lamb is the symbol of the innocence of the virgin-martyr.Agnes, a girl of twelve, freely died for Christ. When she was commanded to offer incense to false Gods, she raised her hand and made the Sign of the Cross. And when the son of the Roman prefect offered to marry her, she replied:"The one to whom I am betrothed is Christ Whom the angels serve. Alejandro and Sasha dig into how both the exhibition and the book came together, from concept to execution. He also reflects on the lasting impact of his seminal project Carpoolers, and how it shaped his thinking around photography, technology, and intent. Paul Getty Museum, The Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, The MFAH in Houston, the Portland Museum of Art, The West Collection, the Coppel collection, the FEMSA Collection, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the George Eastman House and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and among others. He has also been a finalist for the Aperture Portfolio Award and has been nominated for the Santa Fe Photography Prize, the Prix Pictet Prize, the Photoespaña Descubrimientos Award and the FOAM Paul Huff Award. His work has been published internationally in magazines and newspapers such as Newsweek, Nowness, Domus, the Financial Times, The New York Times, Le Monde, Stern, PDN, The New Yorker, and Wallpaper, among others.

Karl Feierabend suchte sein Glück einst in der Karibik. Sein Sohn Carlos zog es mit 17 Jahren in die Heimat seines Vaters. In der Schweiz fand er seine grosse Liebe und wurde selbst Vater. Nun bricht er seine Zelte ab und will in der Dominikanischen Republik die Farm seines Vaters wieder aufbauen. Der Innerschweizer Schnapsbrenner Karl Feierabend wanderte in den 1990er-Jahren in ein kleines Dorf namens Rancho Arriba aus, um Grossfarmer zu werden. Der Traum platzte bald, trotzdem blieb er dort, heiratete und hatte vier Söhne. Die machten später alle den umgekehrten Weg. Sie wanderten von Santo Domingo in die Schweiz aus. Der Älteste, Carlos Feierabend, hat sich jetzt seine Pensionskasse auszahlen lassen, um in seine alte Heimat zurückzukehren. Dort will er mit 37 Jahren einen Neuanfang wagen. Sein Plan: Mit seiner Frau Samira und den beiden kleinen Kindern will er in der Dominikanischen Republik die kleine Farm der Familie wiederaufbauen und bewirtschaften. Carlos verbrachte die Hälfte seines Lebens in der Schweiz. Kann er sich in Rancho Arriba, wo er seine Kindheit und Jugend verbrachte, wieder integrieren?
