Dan Bickel joins the podcast to discuss his company: Hopleaf Tea. A product made right here in Erie, Pennsylvania, Hopleaf blends fresh hops and natural tea leaves into over 20 current blends. Along with being able to buy these blends on Etsy, locals can also find Hopleaf at places like The Tipsy Bean, Luminary Distilling and Voodoo Brewery. In fact, Dan and Voodoo just unveiled their newest collaboration, an organic ceylon tea blend with lemon grass and citra hops called “Voobrew.” The Edinboro Beehive helped Hopleaf with its branding, while the Mercyhurst Beehive provided crucial market research. Marty, Brent, and Jake are in studio this week, with some post-election wrap-up (this was recorded BEFORE a winner was projected in the Presidential race)This is our big 2020 Election Wrap-Up Episode, so expect a ton of talk about that, including their experiences with Kristy Gnibus' results party and how the evening went there. The Beer Segment: Killapilz from Voodoo Brewery, an imperial lager with a 7.5% abv and 85 ibu, the guys gave this one 3.75/5, making it a good, solid pilsner, but not quite recommended. After the beer segment, the guys talk a little music, then they segue into a ton of sports talk, and Brent won't stop talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode Ryan and Scottro roll solo! We start by hearing about Ryan's recent experience taking a "self-administered" coronavirus test (hint: he didn't enjoy it). Following these traumatic details, Ryan sips on one of the latest beer drops by Tattered Flag Brewery who is now shipping statewide via TatteredFlagSupplyDrop.com. Scottro then awards Hitchhiker Brewing with the "beer that produces the best-tasting burps". (Don't ask). The duo begins the discussion of Wawa and Sheetz entering the craft beer market which segways in to a discussion of major brands starting to collab more and more with craft breweries. Ryan sees this as being one of the next big trends in craft beer. He even makes a bold prediction that Nike makes a collab craft beer.. Scottro and Ryan then talk about whether their beer preferences change with the weather. Ryan admits that it's always stout weather before they run through some of their favorite stouts. Before they wrap things up, they discuss Sam Adam buying Dogfish Head. As part of the extra credit portion of this episode, Ryan sits down with Phil from Voodoo New Kensington to talk all about that latest brewery to open! In episode 159, Tony & Eddie go back 20 years as they sit down to talk about the original Matrix film. Yes, this 1999 smash hit changed action movies forever, but with the Matrix 4 being filmed right now, the boys thought it made sense to go back and ask - how did this film hold up? They answer that question and many more in this week's throwback episode. The boys also sampled brews from New Trail Brewing and Voodoo Brewery. Both of this week's beers are double IPAs, so if you like that dank and sticky icky citrus punch - hang around for the Untappd reviews at the end of the episode.
Strangerest Things 3 In Episode 131, Tony & Eddie talk about the newest season of the show that started it all for them, Stranger Things. Long time Cinefantics know that Stranger Things is what started the show and the boys thought it was great to get back to the start. There's a ton to digest in an entire season, so the boys mostly focused on things they liked, things they thought worked well, and a few notes on things they thought could have been done a little better. All-in-all, this season was a roller coaster ride of nostalgia, laughs, thrills and this time even some tears. If you want more details on the series review - tune in and check it out. This episode Tony tried a new brew from Voodoo called, Non-trademark Infringement Alma Mater. This slightly heavy IPA had more pop and less dank than Tony thought it might. But did he love it? Eddie sipped a new brew from a new brewery they've not featured on the show before called Double Wing Brewing Company. Their bourbon-aged ale packed a hell of an alcoholic punch, but what about the flavor profile? You can hear all about it in this week's episode.
Or, The 2 Return Trips All Penn State Alumni Should Make The whole gang is finally back together, and in classic Obligatory fashion, the conversation quickly skews into a digression from which it never fully recovers. Brandon, Kevin, Chris, and Mailman relax by the banks of Spruce Creek at Voodoo Brewery's State College location, waxing philosophical on a range of topics including: Beer (of course), Summer in Happy Valley, Penn State graduation, the end of “Senior Week,” Penn State's two law schools, the street value of a Brandon Noble autograph (and your chances of receiving one in the mail, upon request), and Chris' two pieces of essential advice for every PSU alum planning a trip back to State College: Pick and non-event weekend in the Summer, and come back for a relaxing weekend to experience town, campus, and the surrounding areas (experience Mount Nittany!) during the slowest-paced time of year. Plan a Fall football trip far enough in advance to take the extra time off and arrive mid-week. Experience town and campus on the Thursday and Friday leading up to the game, and make some time to walk through the surrounding neighborhoods to appreciate what a great college atmosphere we have at Old State. HOSTED BY: Brandon Noble, Mike Herr, Kevin Horne, Chris Buchignani
This week Kasey, which is the amalgam of Katie and Kelsey, joins Steve and Adam to talk about Kentucky beer. First they bullshit about Gillian Jacobs, Joe Manganiello, Dunkin' flavors, and fashion. Then it's on to Brewer's Association style guidelines for 2019 and Voodoo Brewery's new location. In the second segment, it's a full spotlight on KY brewing history, what common beer is, and happening places like Holy Grale, Mile Wide, and Akasha. Finally, the pod predicts the winner of the Kentucky Derby through a super sophisticated, scientific beer rubric. Beers: Country Boy Brewing Halfway Home Pale Ale West Sixth Brewing Pay It Forward Cocoa Porter Great Flood Brewing Toasted Brown Ale
Or, Happy Valley Voodoo of Slab Cabin Run Mike the Mailman is on assignment (playing cards), but the rest of the gang – Penn State and NFL defensive tackle Brandon Noble, former Onward State managing editor Kevin Horne, and aspiring virtual lion tamer Chris Buchignani – are all on hand for the triumphant return of the Obligatory podcast. The guys kick back along waters of Slab Cabin Run enjoying the hospitality of Voodoo Brewery and cover a range of topics in this return episode – the forgotten tradition of “not walking on the S” and the importance of ritual, the family-friendly (and less so) aspects of Blue-White Weekend, the killer instinct of local birds of prey, and the cultural phenomenon that is Game of Thrones (Brandon and Chris even sneak in some football talk while Kevin gets a refill). It's good to be back! This was recorded 24 hours before Tommy Stevens entered the transfer portal. Enjoy this break from pointless speculation and stale takes and thank us later. HOSTED BY: Brandon Noble, Kevin Horne, Chris Buchignani
In episode 107, Tony & Eddie talk about the newest edition of the Predator franchise, The Predator (2018). We wanted more from this film. Way more. But there's some things to like here. Maybe not to love. But to like, for sure. Listen this week to get the details on this horror/comedy/sci-fi combination. We also sample beer from Voodoo Brewery & New Belgium Brewing. There's some fantastic brews from both this week. Don't miss out!
Inside the Brewery explores the stories behind the beer. This episode, host Bill McGeeney chats with Matt Allyn, formerly of Voodoo Brewery. Allyn describes his transformation from a homebrewer out of the Air Force to multiple brewery owner and now consultant. Allyn retains wide ranging respect in the industry for his near 30 years of experience at every stage in the industry. Special Guest Dave Edmonds discusses the current brewery-law debacle in New Jersey (with full details at the end of the podcast). Music on this podcast provided by Jahzzarr ("Siesta"), Tours ("Enthusiast"), Doctor Turtle ("Today's Special Jam, Tomorrow") and Blank Kytt ("RSPN"). All music used under creative commons license. In Ep #78, Tony & Eddie talk Pacific Rim: Uprising. What does it have? Big robots. Big aspirations. Big Boyega. Small Cailee. And...at least 5 minutes of Eddie mispronouncing the inter-dimensional alien's species name. There's a lot here to like. But there's a TON to hate too. Find out what the boys ultimately thought in this week's episode of the Cinemantics. Of course there's always two new beers to try too. We tried brews from Voodoo and from Founders and man-o-live there was some goodness there to talk about.

It’s Mardi Gras time, and we’re tasting a carnival of Voodoo Brewery beers. We review six (plus one) beers from the Meadville, Pennsylvania brewery, and we end up having one of our best drinking experiences ever recorded. In this episode, you’ll also hear about Craig’s trip to Voodoo, why Ryan might be leaving the podcast, and our virulent support of the Anti-Waxer movement. Plus, a trio of barrel-aged beers brings about some of the more memorable - and lascivious - reactions we’ve had in a while. For us, every day is Fat Tuesday! Mutual Rankings! 1.
