The Crow for a long time was considered a property that was untouchable. The tragedy of Brandon Lee's passing during the making of the 1994 film immortalized his portrayal for fans. Although there was zero interest in the property being formally rebooted—there were three sequels and a TV show—the studio soldiered on. They even ignored all the signs that it probably wasn't meant to be. The Crow's path back to the big screen saw multiple directors sign on and off, and a myriad of lead actors come and go. By the time it finally happened in 2024, the fans couldn't even be bothered to hate watch it. The Crow, with a box office around $24 million, was one of the bigger flops of the year. This despite having a rather modest budget of just $50 million. Reviews were just as scathing. Critics made it clear The Crow was better off staying dead this time around, excoriating it with a 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. Sam and Mariah Calagione started dating in high school, and have been on a wild ride ever since. Their biggest, craziest adventure? Founding Dogfish Head Brewery and forever changing the landscape of American craft beer. From the moment Sam started home-brewing in his NYC apartment, he infused his beer with unusual ingredients like cherries, maple syrup, roasted chicory, and licorice. When he and Mariah officially launched Dogfish Head in 1995, it was the smallest brewery in America's smallest state. 24 years (and countless pints) later, it was acquired by the Boston Beer Company for $300 million. Along the way, Sam and Mariah had one random experience after another: writing a bill to legalize their own brew-pub, winning best recipe at the Delaware Punkin Chunkin, and inviting Ricki Lake to their first tasting at Sam's apartment (spoiler alert: she showed up). This episode was produced by Alex Cheng with music composed by Ramtin Arablouei. The growth in the non-alcoholic adult drinks category is a bit of a bright spot amidst recent trends in craft brewing. As more and more craft brewers consider bringing NA beers to market, compliance concerns come to the forefront. While NA beers contain scant or no alcohol, they still come with a variety of compliance concerns, not all of which may be intuitive or simple to grasp. This session will cover: -How is NA beer regulated by alcohol control boards, including licensing, taxes and distribution restrictions -How to properly label NA beer, including FDA requirements -How and if NA beer can be sold by alcohol retailers Please join Alex Koral of Sovos ShipCompliant and Shauna Barnes of Barnes Beverage Group for this review of the legal considerations impacting NA beers. Shauna Barnes is the founder of Barnes Beverage Group, a law firm specializing in providing external general counsel and regulatory counsel to beverage companies. Shauna has over a decade of experience counseling alcohol companies, specializing in creative distribution relationship management and risk-based advice in all aspects of the product life cycle. Before founding Barnes Beverage Group, Shauna founded the Alcohol & Beverage Practice at Kaleo Legal. Prior to that, she was General Counsel and a trusted member of the leadership team at Dogfish Head for nearly a decade. She found that position during her tenure as an attorney with McDermott Will & Emery focused on alcohol beverage clients and antitrust issues. She is a former Events Chair of the Rose Council of Wake Forest University School of Law and currently serves on the school's Law Board of Visitors. She regularly volunteers her time to the Delaware Brewer's Guild, assisting the members with alcohol-related challenges and legislative efforts. Based in Boulder, Colorado, Alex Koral is Regulatory General Counsel for Sovos ShipCompliant, where he serves as lead legal researcher for beverage alcohol regulation and has become a leading expert on interstate distribution of alcohol. He has spoken on the topic at many industry events including the Craft Beer Professionals Virtual Conferences, Craft Brewers Conference, American Craft Spirits Association Convention, as well as meetings for the National Council of State Liquor Administrators and the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association. Alex has been in the beverage alcohol arena since 2015, after receiving his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School. The boys drink and review Crimson Crue red ale from Dogfish Head brewery, then discuss apocalyptic religions -- specifically the JWs and the SDAs. The two groups have points in common and some important distinctions. Both groups are rooted in the Millerite movement and some disappointing predictions about the end of the world. They both * believe in one God, * are somewhat obsessed with the Book of Revelation, * have some odd views about what happens to the soul at death, * believe the Bible is inspired and infallible, and * are (or can be) a touch cultic. The distinctions are more important. The JWs are not Christians, in the sense that they do not believe in the Trinity. SDAs do. 7th Day Adventists also have a better understanding of salvation, and several other things. SDAs have some interesting distinctions -- like their insistence on a Saturday Sabbath, and their reliance on the prophecies of Ellen G. White -- but they are Christians.
S5-E14, Have you ever found yourself chuckling over a chili-pepper-fueled mishap or a mispronounced word that turned a regular day into an anecdote for the ages? That's the kind of day we're unpacking in our latest brew-tastic escapade, as we wrap our taste buds around Ass Clown Brewing Company's Ghost Chili IPA. It's not just about the heat though – we've got tales of barroom shenanigans, a chili recipe amnesia, and even a rogue tire on the loose at Charleston Air Force Base that'll have you shaking your head in disbelief. Get comfy and prepare for laughter as we recount stories of forgetfulness that'll remind you of your own "oops" moments, like that time a van's low tire pressure light was less of an indicator and more of a harbinger of potential disaster. We're sharing these tales alongside beer reviews that'll guide your next ale adventure, including our thoughts on Dogfish Head's Nordic Spring IPA. And if you think beer tasting is all we've got, guess again! We're tossing in trivia, from the quirks of historical handshakes to the peculiarities of temperature preferences. To cap it all off, we'll meander through discussions that might just alter your next cocktail party conversation – think cricket trivia, gorilla encounters, and the fascinating story behind the Little Red Book. So, pull up a stool, pour yourself a cold one, and join us as we navigate the foamy and often hilarious waters of beer and banter. No guest this time around, just your trusty hosts serving up a full-bodied mix of humor, history, and hops that's sure to satisfy your podcast palate.Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com
