It's all hands on deck in Michigan for turkey season on The Fair Chase podcast, but we're hitting pause to talk boots with Mike Edwards from Schnee's in Bozeman, Montana. Mike's been steeped in boots and big game hunting since he was a kid, taking over the family business that's been crafting legendary pack boots and mountain boots since the ‘80s. From chasing mule deer to obsessing over bow hunting, he knows what keeps your feet happy on the mountain. We nerd out on what makes a killer hunting boot, why pack boots deserve more love, and how to avoid blisters that'll tank your hunt. Whether you're a Midwest deer slayer or planning a Western elk adventure, Mike's got the lowdown on picking the perfect pair. We also cover: - Why a good outsole and polyurethane midsole are non-negotiable - Stiff vs. soft boots: when to go quiet or dig into sidehills like a pro - The biggest mistake hunters make (hint: don't expect boots to “stretch out”) - How to break in boots right, without shrinking them by a campfire Follow us here:

What makes the difference between surviving and thriving during a 200-mile ultra journey? For five back-of-the-pack runners at the 2025 Swammie Shuffle 200, the answer emerged organically when they formed what they affectionately dubbed "the Party Pack." This episode pulls back the curtain on an unforgettable adventure along North Carolina's Outer Banks (#OBX), where the collective energy of the group transformed individual suffering into shared triumph. Richard Gleave hosts fellow Party Pack members Stephanie Fonda, Lisa McFadden, Elizabeth Mohan and Mike Edwards as they recount their experiences tackling this challenging 220-mile journey run from Sandbridge, Virginia to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and back. The conversation weaves through the unique challenges of winter ultrarunning on the Outer Banks – navigating long beach stretches, timing food stops when most businesses are closed, and dodging traffic on narrow highway shoulders. What emerges is a masterclass in the psychological advantage of group dynamics during extreme endurance events. As Lisa reflects, "I don't race races, I just participate" – a sentiment that perfectly captures the spirit of this back-of-the-pack adventure.Beyond physical challenges, the group shares surprisingly humorous moments: Mike doing laundry at a KOA in a Hanes t-shirt and undies, Stephanie's excitement at finding what appeared to be $700 (which turned out to be movie prop money), and the collective obsession with securing the elusive Duck Donuts. These light-hearted stories punctuate deeper reflections on why people run such extreme distances, including connections to veterans' causes and personal redemption.Whether you're contemplating your first ultra or already have hundreds of miles under your belt, this conversation offers invaluable insights into the power of companionship during endurance challenges. Sometimes the magic of ultrarunning happens not at the front of the pack, but among those who choose to journey together, making the impossible feel achievable through shared determination and unexpected friendship.Swammie Shuffle 200:https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=114996Cape Fear 24hr:https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=112156Choose to Endure:Email:info@choosetoendure.comWebsite:https://www.choosetoendure.com/YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@ChoosetoEndureInstagram:https://instagram.com/choose_to_endure?utm_source=qr Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552757049526
How might we weave stories together as a response to ecological breakdown, using sound to connect to place? In this episode, I speak with Mike Edwards. Mike began his career researching climate change in the Southwest Pacific, where his work—cited by the IPCC—was among the first to explore ecocolonialism: how climate discourse is manipulated by the powerful to control those most affected. His research challenged dominant narratives, sparking debate among those reluctant to rethink the status quo. In 2015, he co-founded Sound Matters, pioneering work in sonic rewilding, regenerative soundscaping, and Integral Listening (IL). His book Soundscapes of Life is set for release in 2025. Beyond sound, Mike has been a Climate Change Advisor to The Elders Foundation, working with leaders like Kofi Annan and President Jimmy Carter ahead of COP21. He has lectured worldwide, led the Arts and Ecology programme at Dartington Arts, and founded InnerDigenous, a movement helping people reconnect with self and place for personal and planetary healing. We discuss:
Connect group has changed the lives of these three leaders. In this powerful message, Mike, Karissa, and Raul share their testimonies of how connect groups have helped them find their purpose, community, and breakthrough.

Most people know Jesus Jones from their big hit in 1991, "Right Here Right Now." Thanks to the explosion of grunge and alternative rock that was already bubbling up from the underground to the mainstream, the techno-rock of Jesus Jones took a back seat and relegated them to one-hit wonder status. But instead of changing their sound to blend in with the loud guitars from Seattle, the band and primary songwriter/singer Mike Edwards went in the opposite direction and leaned into their electronic elements for 1993's Perverse. Recorded entirely on computers, the album marks on the second fully digital release, and the sounds Edwards and band created sound positively futuristic compared the 1993 musical landscape. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran was at Buffalo Bills training camp Monday and has plenty of first-hand observations, with the focus being on a few of the underdog stories that are beginning to take shape. Among the things that most stood out to Patrick is the continued productive play of former undrafted tight end Zach Davidson, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL. He's looked fluid in camp and seems to be catching everything while making it look effortless. He talks about the chances he has of supplanting Quintin Morris on the roster and what the fallout for that could be. Sixth round rookie defensive back Daequan Hardy has also been impressive through parts of camp, including Monday. Patrick goes over what he saw from Hardy both good and bad, including a nice interception and funny anecdote along with it, but also him getting positively smoked by Keon Coleman during one on one reps. He also talks about Kaiir Elam getting first team reps before Christian Benford on Monday, Matt Milano continuing to ease back in, Mike Edwards still looking pretty ginger moving around according to Patrick, Andy Isabella and plenty of other nuggets from Bills camp. ♦♦♦♦♦ If you're looking into setting up a golf practice/enjoyment station in your home, basement, garage or backyard — SimTurf is your golf oasis, featuring premium synthetic turf. It's another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative as Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from consumers of this show, with plenty of Buffalo Bills camp talk dominating this week. Mike Edwards going down with a hamstring injury has opened the door for Damar Hamlin or a rookie, Cole Bishop to begin the season as the team's starting free safety. Either would be a great story for different reasons. Patrick answers a few comments directed at both players and feels that with the team signing Kareem Jackson it probably puts to bed the chances of them adding Justin Simmons and/or bringing back Micah Hyde. Patrick also responds to submissions regarding Kahlil Shakir seeming ready to pop for the offense, Tyrell Shavers indicative of a receiving unit that's poor in depth and what Terry Pegula should or shouldn't be saying. There's also a few Buffalo Sabres takes on Jeff Skinner on UPL and Jeff Skinner included. That plus from Joe From Queens is a curmudgeon, Patrick "bends over" for hack Buffalo reporters and much more. If you want to have your question or comment featured on next week's podcast, leave on Twitter, the Talking Buffalo YouTube channel or via email to talkingbuffalopodcastd@gmail.com ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the pads went on for the first time at Buffalo Bills training camp and Patrick Moran was there to accumulate several observations from Monday's practice, including defensive end Greg Rousseau having another dominant showing. There's been several accounts of Rousseau having a really strong start to camp and after seeing his first camp of the season in person, Patrick is completely on board. He discusses what he saw from Rousseau during practice, including dismantling right tackle Spencer Brown multiple times during both individual and team drills. Rousseau's going into his fourth season and is being counted on to elevate his game to a level that puts him up there among the league's better edge defenders. He's also got a lot potentially on the line when it comes to commanding a second contract. Also, after no injuries of significance through the first few days, that streak came to an end with news that likely starting free safety Mike Edwards is expected to miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury. Patrick talks about how that probably makes it Damar Hamlin versus rookie Cole Bishop for the starting spot, or possibly opens the door for a Micah Hyde return if both sides are serious about it--or maybe even a big swing on free agent Justin Simmons. That plus other notable things Patrick's seeing, including pretty solid play from Kaiir Elam and Kingsley Jonathan, another potential hamstring injury (this time to Ty Johnson), a Cinderella story in the making at wide receiver with Tyrell Shavers and plenty more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, day two of training camp for the Buffalo Bills is in the books and Patrick Moran has several observations to hit on not just during practice, but interesting comments from offensive coordinator Joe Brady said before practice begun on Thursday. The Bills don't really have a "No. 1" receiver on this roster as things stand. That's not secret and if it wasn't already apparent, that's much to Brady's liking. During a Q&A with the media before practice Brady talked about pass catchers, including refusing to even identify certain positions on the wide receiver tree and referred to the group as saying "we don't have positions, we do everything conceptually." Perhaps even more telling was Brady's quote that could become a mantra for this Bills offense in 2024 ---everybody eats." Patrick also talks about Curtis Samuel having a big day on the practice field as he showed off his versatility, some interesting rotation notes among the offensive line, Mike Edwards in at starter at free safety, Cam Lewis getting dinged up and plenty more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss some observations from day one of Buffalo Bills training camp in addition to some fun facts and numbers about this year's team. After what felt like an offseason that'd never end, camp began on Wednesday in Rochester and immediately there were some fun storylines for the guys to dig into on today's show. Among them are Matt Milano returning as a full participant for the first time this entire offseason, Damar Hamlin instead of Mike Edwards getting the initial start at free safety, Keon Coleman seeing plenty of time with the first-team offense, Von Miller looking pretty sharp and a really good camp debut for second-year tight end Dalton Kincaid. They also talk about some numbers and "fun facts" about the Bills going into this season, including a stat that blew Patrick's mind----the Bills have tied a NFL record for the most consecutive regular season games (40) without a loss of more than six points. That plus the Bills are actually a much younger team than you may think, three guys share the distinction of being the longest-tenured Bills, the Buffalo Sabres make a significant contract signing and more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over a bunch of Buffalo Bills candidates that could potentially be the next Terrel Bernard, a guy not talked about much and/or isn't expected to do a lot that could blossom into an important part of the 2024 Bills team. Around this time last year Bernard was mostly a Bills afterthought after the team let Tremaine Edmunds walk earlier in free agency. While Bernard was set to take on Tyrel Dodson for a starting job, it was probably thought by most the team would ultimately look outside to find it's starting middle linebacker. Bernard would win the job and within just a few games it became apparent that he's not only a good player, but a difference maker in the Buffalo defense. Bernard went on to have an outstanding first year as a Buffalo starter and has himself positioned as a critical part of the team going forward. Who may be this year's version of Bernard based on the criteria of contributing way more than most expect? Patrick goes over several candidates that he's been thinking about as well as many fans, a list that includes Mike Edwards, MVS, Taylor Rapp, Kaiir Elam and fight-round rookie Javon Solomon. There's also some players that could easily be on the list that Patrick thinks already have enough pedigree that being a solid contributor or more is expected, with those names including AJ Epenesa, Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel. That and plenty more today. ♦♦♦♦♦ If you're looking into setting up a golf practice/enjoyment station in your home, basement, garage or backyard — SimTurf is your golf oasis, featuring premium synthetic turf.
