This week we close out our Flourish sermon series in a special way—gathered not in a sanctuary of stone, but in the sanctuary of creation itself. We return to the words of Jesus at the conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount, where He offers a call to action: to build our lives on a foundation that can endure. To flourish, Jesus teaches, is not to escape difficulty—but to root ourselves in values that are practiced, embodied, and tested in the wilderness of life. Flourishing happens not on the mountaintop or the cruise ship, but in the grit and grace of real life. This message challenges us to consider what we're building on. Are our values lived out or just ideals we admire from a distance? Do we have the kind of foundation that can weather the storms of life? Storied Church is a community rooted in hope, justice, and love. If this message speaks to you, share it with someone who needs encouragement today. In This message, we consider:1. What is the Gospel?2. What is Salvation?3. What is preaching and evangelism?4. What is the Christian Gathering (AKA "Church") 5. What should our Worship Gathering be like? a. How should it be when the Body of Christ comes together?
In our Flourish sermon series, we are exploring Jesus' teachings in Matthew, focusing on how our values—inclusion, authenticity, courage, and curiosity—shape our lives. Matthew 7:1-6 challenges us to judge fairly, prioritizing curiosity over condemnation in our relationships. Jesus calls us to discern wisely, remain open to understanding others, and protect what is sacred in our lives. Today, we are celebrating this call through the reaffirmation of baptism, recognizing God's work in each of us, and embracing the beauty of shared journey and transformation. In this third Sunday of Lent, we continue our Flourish series by exploring 1 Corinthians 10:1-13. The wilderness is disorienting, unsettling, and full of questions—but it's not unfamiliar. We've been here before. Through the struggles of the Israelites, the challenges of the early church, and our own wilderness moments, we are reminded that God remains faithful. How do we flourish in a season that feels like the opposite? How do we hold onto hope when the way forward seems uncertain? Join us as we reflect on God's presence in the wilderness, the power of remembrance, and the ways God provides for us—even when the journey is difficult. This past Sunday we continued our Flourish sermon series by exploring Jesus' call to live a life free from anxiety. What does it mean to truly trust in God's provision? How do we navigate the worries that weigh us down while holding onto the values we profess? Through Jesus' teaching on the birds and flowers, we reflect on embracing peace, letting go of what we can't control, and leaning into a flourishing life grounded in faith. Join us as we unpack practical ways to move beyond survival and into a life of thriving—where anxiety does not have the final say, but trust, gratitude, and grace lead the way. In week four of our Flourish series, we continue exploring Jesus' inaugural sermon, focusing on living a righteous life from the heart. Jesus challenges performative religious behaviors and calls us to align our actions with Christ-centered values. This week, we dive into acts of piety and mercy—prayer, fasting, and generosity—emphasizing the importance of motives behind these practices. Are we living out our values or just seeking recognition? In Week 3 of our Flourish sermon series, we continue exploring Jesus' inaugural sermon in Matthew, where he challenges us to love not just those who are easy to love, but even our enemies. It's easy to care for those who agree with us or support us, but what about those who challenge us, hurt us, or seem impossible to love? In this episode, we unpack how flourishing isn't about avoiding discomfort but stepping into it—choosing love, mercy, and compassion even when it's the hardest thing to do. Jesus redefines righteousness not as rule-following, but as living from a place of wholeness—embracing authenticity, vulnerability, and radical grace. How does this challenge the way we live and engage with the world around us? This past Sunday, we concluded our series God's Work, Our Next Steps, reflecting on how our participation, gifts, and willingness to step into deeper waters shape the future of our community. This past Sunday, we reflected on our recent Next Steps Retreat and the journey ahead. We've explored how we participate in God's work, stewarding the holy chaos and discerning our next steps as a community. Through asset mapping, we identified the gifts we bring and the values we hold dear. But now comes the hard work—execution, leadership, and discernment. Grounded in 1 Corinthians 13, we are reminded that love is at the core of everything we do. Love is not just an idea but an embodied action that shapes our decisions and direction. As we move forward, how do our values guide us toward wholeness? What does it mean for us to flourish together? In this talk, recorded live at Riverside Vineyard (June 2024), Dan Wilt talks about what it means to live and worship from the heart. Unpacking learnings from Asbury, he looks at what God seems to be doing across the Church and how we can lean into that wherever possible; with consecration, with young people, and through lingering in his presence. During the talk, Dan referenced a film from the Asbury outpouring. Due to Copyright it has not been included in the recording, but you can watch it here: https://awakeninglibrary.com
The Wilderness: Where Our True Calling is Contested and Forged Dan Wilt takes a deep dive into the story of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness from Luke Chapter 4. Vulnerably sharing from his own story, Dan illustrates how the wilderness is where our truest calling as God's beloved is both contested and forged. When we come through these seasons rooted in our identity we become unshakeable, no matter what storms come our way.
