In a crisis or any other time, efficiency is critical in business. One of the recurring issues we see in almost all businesses is that the core processes, the ones that create revenue for the business, are often undocumented and unclear. Having documented processes will separate your business from the crowd and make your business real. These define the foundation of what your business does and who your business is. One of the fastest way to get your business into momentum is to document your processes. Now is an opportune time to document your processes, clarify them, and make them as efficient as possible. With documentation, you can see a reduction in the time needed to complete a process by as much as 90%. I share this figure with people all the time, let me share with you a recent issue in our company and the 90% reduction that documenting process created. Very few people go straight to the worst-case scenario in a crisis, because we are all trying to avoid it. Those who do and understand what could happen, have a basis for making better decisions. When someone says something like “all we need to do is think positive.” I will admit that I am immediately irritated. If all it took for people to move forward in the world was thinking positive, we would all think positive and everything will be resolved. Especially in a crisis situation, that's just not how it works. If you are trying to white knuckle or use will power to create positive thinking, it just won't work. The higher the pressure and noise, the more difficult it is to remain positive. In this episode of the Momentum Podcast, I will show you that the only way to make sure you remain positive and consistent is to create process in your life and in your business. Just thinking positively is not enough, process creates positive thinking. Implementing these simple processes into your life and into your business will radically change the way you are able to make it through this challenging time. Being a solopreneur is a fantasy. This conversation happens so often in the entrepreneurial world. Entrepreneurs have the idea in their head that they don't need anybody else in order to grow their business to where they want to be. They think they can do it all themselves, and that a team would only slow them down. The problem with this line of thinking is that there is not a single entrepreneur in the history of the world who was able to build the business of their dreams without a team. If you make the decision to build a team, you will have the opportunity to change the world. The issue is that entrepreneurs often feel like a team will restrict them and take away their freedom. They became entrepreneurs to shake off the responsibilities of managing other people. The problem is that building a business on your own is one of the most damaging things you can do to your body, your mind, and your relationships. The commitment to build a team is what truly creates freedom. If you know you have the opportunity to make a bigger impact, grow a massive business, and change the world for the better, it is time to give up what is really holding you back: The Solopreneur Fantasy.

On a recent live training I held for entrepreneurs of every size business, I had the opportunity to speak directly to an issue in the business of a very special entrepreneur. We had an amazing conversation, and it started out--as it does for so many entrepreneurs who are running multimillion-dollar businesses--with her feeling like there was something wrong with her. She felt like she needed to shift her mindset or change her thinking around this issue. Something she was doing in front of her team that did not make her appear "as her full, authentic self." Once the conversation concluded, the concerns about her mindset, herself, and how she was showing up to her team significantly changed. I offered her an entirely different solution to her problem. If you're trying to grow and scale a business, mindset often has far less to do with the issues you're facing than is perceived in the market today. Instead, I could see that Lori was dealing with something that could only be adequately fixed by surrounding herself with a process that allowed her to show up in front of her team in a predictable, reliable, and stable way. This was not about her mindset, it was about the process.

In an entrepreneurial business, the most common issue I've encountered is that the entrepreneur in charge is buried by the responsibilities of running and growing that business on a day-to-day basis. More often than not, entrepreneurs say that they are drowning in things that need to get done. At the end of the day, they look at what they still have left to do and wonder how in the world they are going to get it done. It's as if the entire business is hitting a bottleneck and there is no end in sight. There is only one way to break that bottleneck and allow your business to grow faster than you ever thought possible. For visionary entrepreneurs, one of the biggest fantasies out there is to hire one person who is going to do all the things in our business that we don't want to do, so we can stay in the visionary seat and grow our business without any frustration or pain. It feels like if we could only find the person that would take care of all of the details, we could stay in our zone of genius. The issue is, it takes a lot more than just a person; it takes an entire system to protect and support an entrepreneur. The expectation that a single person will come in and fix everything is unfair to them and unfair to you. The Traction EOS System revolves around the concept of an innovator who does everything in the business for the entrepreneur. And this podcast I discuss why this is not only unrealistic, it may cause you serious issues and get you stuck in a way no entrepreneur wants to be stuck. As many of you know, I used to be a one on one consultant for over a decade. With that said, today's podcast topic is going to be one that will seem very surprising coming from me. I want to talk about why one on one coaching or consulting may not be your best option, and how it may end up hurting you rather than helping you. If you are currently working with someone one on one or plan to in the near future, listen to this episode first and then proceed with caution. In most cases, working one to one is not as beneficial as working with a consultant who has built out their systems with a team. One to one consultants usually have a lack of systems, documentation, and processes with no built out structure. Even though you feel like you're getting all of their attention and a personalized delivery, this isn't usually the case. What you are often getting is a much slower and tedious delivery, rather than one that's fast and all at once. One to one consulting seems like the easiest and most valuable choice, but it's the most dangerous way to move towards an outcome. If you want real results and fast, you need a consultant who has systems and a team. You will receive the outcome they have created with their team through processes, documentation, structure, and a platform you can rely on. Resource mentioned: http://predictablebusinesssystems.com/

Since this group had a ton of questions and took such an interest in the topic, I knew it was time to revisit it on our podcast. Let's be real, visionary entrepreneurs are not great at running meetings and really shouldn't be the one conducting them to begin with. At one point in our business, we didn't have a choice but to run them and do everything ourselves. If you're listening to this on the go, take mental notes. But by the end of the day, I ask that you sit down and write out the answers for this exercise. If you've built a team and you're starting to develop a leadership team, this podcast is one you need to hear. In this episode, I share with you the most productive way to run a business and things you should work towards if you want to create a culture of winning. My team and I have had what I'm about to share with you set in place for a while, but this past week we reiterated it...I'm not able to change things in the business, and there's a good reason why. I can't change my team's priorities, projects, deadlines, or outcome in any way - unless it's a real emergency. And for me to step in at an emergency level, things have to be pretty bad. If that happens, I regroup with my leadership team, and we will shift priorities. But otherwise, I'm hands-off, and that's the way it should be for a CEO. Because in most businesses, the team is fighting with the entrepreneur for their time and focus. The problem is, in entrepreneurial companies, the focus usually shifts so often that no one can keep track of where the business is going or what they should be doing. This leads to the two biggest complaints I hear - there's a lack of communication, and the team doesn't know what's going on. Tune in to hear why our business and the businesses we coach run differently than 99% of companies out there, and how yours can too. Resources mentioned: Billionairecode.com

My favorite podcasts to record are the ones where we feature our clients. Needless to say, today's episode is no exception. I'm so excited to share with you this podcast I recorded with Heather Wright and one of our Coaches, Deanna. A little background… Heather was the first member of our newest coaching program, Catalyst. In this episode, you will get the chance to meet her, hear about her business, and the progress she's made in just six weeks. Get ready, Heather has an incredibly funny personality and made this episode a ton of fun. Before joining our tribe, Heather really wanted to grow her business in a way that would provide passive income. She kept searching for that magic pill or solution that would get her results fast. After trying multiple “pills” and looking high and low for that quick fix, Heather came across our content. It was the opposite of everything she had ever heard, but it made her stop and think. Just maybe, our approach was exactly what she needed… Fast forward to 6 weeks later in the program - Heather has already had a massive breakthrough. She realized there isn't a quick solution, and that she needs to put the time, work, processes, and systems into her business to grow. She is now more organized, reduced her shiny object syndrome, has clear goals, and a crystal clear plan on where she should be spending her time on. When I was a kid, my mom had this saying when something challenging happened - everything happens for a reason, let's find the reason. When I was younger, I fought it. But as an adult, this saying has proven true. Regardless of what's happened in my life, everything has happened for a reason. In this episode, I share with you a few examples of challenges I've faced and what reasons I've found for them. We talk about everything from my bankruptcy to a panic attack at an old job. I also share a recent story that brought me to tears talking about it again. No matter the size of the challenge, there's an underlying reason or lesson in there somewhere. Sometimes we know the reason right away, and sometimes we won't realize it until years later. But trust me, there's always one there. It's up to find the reason or accept that it's true. You read the title right; I'm back. You've probably noticed that in the last five weeks, I haven't recorded a single podcast episode. If you don't follow me on social media or subscribe to our emails, you probably don't know this, but just recently I took over three weeks off from work. If you're wondering why here it is...I needed time and space to process after my mom, and good friend Sean Stephenson passed away. After a big realization, I stepped out of my business and took time off social media. In such a short few weeks, I learned a ton, and I'm finally ready to share my experience with you. Man, it feels so good to be back, but I have to admit it's been hard to pick up the mic and record. In this episode, I want to share with you why you haven't heard from me directly and what's been going on in my life. After the passing of my mom, I had two weeks of work scheduled that I had to push through. Shortly after, I noticed I was reacting and regressing in ways I haven't in a long time. Listen in as I get real and vulnerable with you on my experience with grief, loss, and what my time off taught me. I share this at the end of the episode, but I thought it was important to put in the show notes too...Every day we have an opportunity, and each day is a gift. Please never forget that.
