How Gratitude Calms Inflammation & Joy Boosts Health

In this episode, Regan Archibald breaks down why emotional health isn't “soft”—it's biochemical. He introduces the EPIC triggers (Emotions, Pain, Infections, Chemicals) and focuses on how emotions leave a measurable chemical trail that can either support health or accelerate inflammation. Using examples like anger increasing inflammatory signaling (including IL-6) and gratitude/joy supporting nitric oxide and vascular function, Regan explains how repeated emotional patterns can rewire the brain, shape immune behavior, and even override diet, exercise, and supplements if left unmanaged. The takeaway: practice the pause, choose your response, and build gratitude and connection on purpose. Consistency in emotional regulation can shift physiology toward resilience, recovery, and better long-term health.RESOURCES:Book Comprehensive Labs: https://agelessfuture.com/longevity-labs/FREE copy of The Peptide Blueprint: https://agelessfuture.com/blueprintSign up for future Health Accelerator Challenges calls LIVE! https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_YZsiUMOzSyqcE8IinC5YEQ#/registrationBooks: https://www.amazon.com/Books-Regan-Archibald/s?rh=n%3A283155%2Cp_27%3ARegan%2BArchibaldArticles: https://medium.com/search?q=Regan+ArchibaldLIKE/FOLLOW/SUBSCRIBE:YouTube -https://www.youtube.com/@ReganArchibald / https://www.youtube.com/@Ageless.FutureLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/regan-archibald-ab70b813Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ageless.future/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AgelessFutureHealth/DISCLAIMER: This video is for educational purposes only and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.  Many of the molecules discussed in this video are research compounds and are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for any specific medical use, indication, or condition. When my therapist first told me to start journaling as part of my recovery practice, I literally laughed in her face. Journaling? Like... affirmations? I didn't believe that writing in a notebook would help me recover from my eating disorder. It seemed too simple. Too basic. Too... pointless. But sis, I was so wrong. Journaling didn't just help me recover. It actually saved my life. And if fear is keeping you stuck in restrictive behaviors right now—if you're terrified to recover because you're not sure who you'll be without your eating disorder—then you need to hear this. In this episode, I'm breaking down the 7 science-backed benefits of journaling that transformed my recovery and why this simple practice might be the missing piece in yours. We live in a culture of information overload—endless scrolling, constant content, comparison on every platform. But what if instead of consuming more, you need to process what's already in your mind? According to the National Institute of Health, 26% of adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. And yet, only 8% of the world population keeps a journal. It's time to go back to the basics. It's time to slow down. It's time to give your brain the space it needs to heal. In this episode, you'll discover: Why I laughed when my therapist suggested journaling (and why I was so wrong) The shocking statistics about mental health and why we need to process, not just consume 7 powerful benefits of journaling in eating disorder recovery (backed by science) How journaling reduces anxiety and depression while boosting your immune system Why getting thoughts OUT of your mind is critical for cognitive processing How writing promotes healing, acceptance, and actually changes your brain The way I used journaling to replace negative coping mechanisms with positive ones How journaling gives you reset, redirection, and compassion for your journey Why reflecting on your progress through old journals sparks hope and momentum Practical tips on how to start journaling TODAY (no fancy notebook required) If you've been stuck, if you've been overwhelmed by the thoughts in your mind, if you don't know where to go next—this episode is your permission to start simple. Start small. Start today. Journaling changed my life. And it can change yours too. KEY QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE

Send us your feedback — we're listeningIsaiah 41:10 — God Calms My Fear of the Unknown as I Step into a New Year From London to Nairobi, from Seoul to Vancouver, from New York to Accra — a global 3 A.M. devotional prayer within the DailyPrayer.uk ARC. SCRIPTURE (NIV) Isaiah 41:10 — “So do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you.” Psalm 56:3 — “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” In the early hours, fear often rises. Global emotional patterns show increased anxiety, overthinking, and uncertainty about the future. But God speaks calm into the night, offering strength for the unknown and peace that steadies the heart. PRAYER  Father, in these quiet hours, settle every fear about what lies ahead. Where my thoughts run fast, slow them with Your peace. Where the unknown feels overwhelming, surround me with the confidence of Your presence. Lift anxiety off my shoulders and replace it with Your assurance. Strengthen my heart, steady my emotions, and push back every whisper of dread. Let Your promises rise louder than my fears. Guide my steps, protect my mind, and remind me You hold my future securely. Tonight, I rest under Your unwavering care. PRAYER POINTS prayer for calm, prayer for fear to lift, prayer for trust, prayer for emotional steadiness, prayer for courage, prayer for night peace, prayer for God's nearness LIFE APPLICATION  Pause and breathe slowly. Repeat Isaiah 41:10 aloud. Visualise handing your fear to God and receiving His peace in exchange. DECLARATION I declare fear loses its power because God holds every part of my future. The Healing Circuit: How Your Vagus Nerve Calms Inflammation With Dr. Kevin Tracey

In this episode my guest is Dr. Kevin J. Tracey and we are discussing one of the most fascinating and revolutionary discoveries in modern medicine — the link between the vagus nerve, the inflammatory reflex, and the body's innate ability to heal. For years, inflammation has been seen as a silent driver behind chronic illness — from autoimmune disease and depression to heart disease and neurodegeneration. But what if the body already has a built-in mechanism to control it? Dr. Tracey is the president and CEO of the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research at Northwell Health, a pioneer of vagus nerve research and author of The Great Nerve. A leader in the scientific fields of inflammation and neuroscience, his lab studies vagus nerve stimulation and bioelectronic medicine. His contributions include first identifying the therapeutic action of monoclonal anti-TNF antibodies and discovering the specific reflex control of immunity by the nervous system, called the “inflammatory reflex.” These discoveries launched the new scientific field called bioelectronic medicine, which investigates the therapeutic applications of vagus nerve stimulation to cure disease. Dr. Tracey, a neurosurgeon, pursued studies of inflammation after the mysterious death of a toddler from sepsis who was in his care. His lab has since revealed molecular mechanisms of inflammation and identified the use of vagus nerve stimulation to treat it. An inventor on more than 120 U.S. patents and the author of more than 450 scientific publications, he is among the most highly cited scientists in the world. He co-founded the Global Sepsis Alliance, is the author of Fatal Sequence (Dana Press) and is a national and international lecturer. In this episode, I take the guest seat on Taylor Elizabeth's Success Decoded to unpack my transformation-from being overweight and bullied to becoming a leader in the biohacking and longevity movement in Dubai. Together, we explore how self-mastery begins with awareness, discipline, and the courage to take the first step toward change.I reveal that real success is an inside-out process. It starts by taking ownership of every action and responsibility in life—a lesson rooted in the ancient Indian idea of karma (action). Through martial arts, I learned that discipline, resilience, and community can reshape identity far more powerfully than motivation alone. From there, my journey expanded to mindfulness, spirituality, and science-based biohacking.Taylor and I bridge ancient wisdom with modern neuroscience—showing how simple habits like conscious breathing, mindset reframing, and environmental awareness can rewire the brain, regulate emotions, and restore vitality. We discuss how happiness is not found in external comfort but cultivated through internal stillness and intentional living.I also demystify biohacking as “the art and science of upgrading your biology by upgrading your environment.” It's not reserved for the rich or extreme—it's about daily fundamentals: sleep, sunlight, movement, breath, and mindset. Whether it's turning off EMF exposure, using light therapy, or optimizing sleep, these small changes create compounding results. We conclude that success, health, and happiness all depend on one ability—managing your energy. When passion and purpose align, work feels effortless, intuition sharpens, and your impact multiplies.Key TakeawaysOwnership Creates Freedom – Taking full responsibility for your actions eliminates blame and puts you in control of every outcome.Move First, Mind Follows – Physical movement triggers mental clarity. Motivation doesn't come before action—it follows it.Small, Consistent Habits Win – Real transformation comes from incremental daily rituals, not drastic overhauls.Your Environment Shapes You – Upgrade what surrounds and enters you—light, air, thoughts, food—and your biology follows.Master Your Mind to Master Life – Thoughts are electric signals shaping reality. Reframing how you think rewires how you live.5 Practical Things You Can Start Doing TodayMorning Breathwork (1 minute): 30 rapid inhales, hold for 10 seconds, exhale fully. Instant energy boost.Box Breathing (anytime stress hits): Inhale-hold-exhale-hold, each for 3 seconds. Calms the nervous system.Nighttime Breathing (for sleep): Inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 8 seconds to activate rest mode.Digital Detox: Put your phone on airplane mode at night and reduce screen exposure after sunset.Gratitude Reflection: Each evening, list three moments where you owned your actions—it builds consciousness and intention. This conversation is a reminder that biohacking isn't just about gadgets—it's a philosophy of self-awareness and deliberate living. As I say in the episode, “Your mind, body, and spirit are layers of the same system. When you realign one, everything else follows.”
