This week, Amazon announced it's laying off 16,000 employees. It’s part two of a continued downsizing Amazon started in October, when it laid of 14,000 employees. Taken together, this is Amazon’s biggest reduction in force ever. This week's layoffs are also the latest in a series of tech downsizings over the past few years that have pushed Seattle’s unemployment rate well above the national rate. On today's episode, is Seattle facing a tech recession? Thank you to the supporters of KUOW, you help make this show possible! The cost of child care is at an all-time high. The typical American family with young kids now spends more on child care than housing. In most of the developed world, the government pays for child care so parents can work and contribute to the economy. But free, universal child care is nearly unheard of in the U.S. At least it was until a few months ago. In November, New Mexico became the first state to launch free, universal child care. On today's episode, what can Washington learn from a state that managed to pull it off?GUEST:Elizabeth Groginsky, Cabinet Secretary for New Mexico's Early Childhood Education and Care DepartmentThank you to the supporters of KUOW, you help make this show possible! According to a Harvard economist, spending on data centers and artificial intelligence accounted for 92% of U.S. economic growth in the first half of last year. That's fueled speculation that we’re in an AI bubble, because spending on that level doesn’t feel sustainable. If the bubble pops and the spending stops, the shockwave could hit all of us. Past economic collapses led to bankruptcies, lost retirement savings, and disappearing jobs. But sometimes, the crash leaves something good behind... that we may not fully appreciate for years. This week, we look at bubbles from the past and ask: When the money burns away, what’s left? Thank you to the supporters of KUOW, you help make this show possible! As the church enters a new season of ministry in 2026, this episode of Leaders in Living Rooms invites leaders to re-examine what they think they know about multisite ministry. Sean Morgan is joined by Warren Bird and Jim Tomberlin to explore how the multisite movement has quietly shifted from simple replication into a multiplying, movement-driven model focused on discipleship, innovation, and the Great Commission. Together, they unpack common critiques of multisite churches, highlight emerging “pacesetter” churches shaping the future, and preview an ambitious national research project designed to equip churches navigating growth, complexity, and mission at scale. As traditional mortgage lending tightens and rental returns compress, note investing is quietly making a comeback. In this episode of The Real Wealth Show, Kathy Fettke sits down with Eddie Speed, a 45-year veteran of the note investing business, to explain why now may be one of the best cycles in decades to "be the bank." Eddie breaks down why seller-financed notes are thriving as loan origination volumes collapse, how investors are earning strong interest income without managing tenants, and what separates high-quality notes from risky deals. They also explore why underserved borrowers are driving demand, how underwriting protects investors, and why many investors are shifting from rentals and syndications into notes. If you're looking for passive income, diversification, and insight into one of real estate's lesser-known asset classes, this episode offers a timely look at why note investing is gaining momentum again in 2026. This episode brought to you by "The Career Intelligence System" at https://ci.jimstroud.com ... Everyone keeps saying career coaching is booming. You hear it on podcasts. You see it on LinkedIn. You see screenshots, sold-out programs, and bold income claims. But if that's true… why does the market feel crowded? Why does demand feel real—but uneven? In this episode, we strip away the hype and look at what's actually growing, what's being mislabeled as a “boom,” and why that distinction matters if you're a coach—or thinking about becoming one. This isn't a takedown or a pep talk. It's a clear-eyed look at what's really happening beneath the headlines.

1. Christmas and Its Religious Significance The discussion begins with warm holiday greetings and reflections on the meaning of Christmas. Emphasis is placed on celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, highlighting its spiritual importance over commercial aspects like gifts and Santa Claus. Ben and the Senator share personal traditions, such as reading Luke Chapter 2 during Christmas dinner, and discuss cultural practices (e.g., Cuban Christmas Eve celebrations with roasted pig vs. vegetarian meals). There’s commentary on a resurgence of faith among younger generations, citing record-breaking Bible sales in 2025. 2. Economic Outlook and Media Bias The conversation shifts to positive economic news: U.S. GDP growth of 4.3% in Q3, the strongest in two years. They argue this growth contradicts negative media predictions and accuse mainstream outlets of political bias. Key points include: Strong consumer spending during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Positive impacts of trade policy, tax cuts, and deregulation under President Trump. Criticism of media framing economic success negatively compared to previous administrations. 3. Welfare Fraud and Systemic Issues Historic fraud in Minnesota’s Medicaid and welfare programs, estimated at $9 billion, and allegations that funds were diverted to terrorist organizations like Al Shabab. Predicting similar fraud in other Democratic-led states (California, New York, Illinois). Wall Street Journal op-ed by Phil Gramm and John Early is mentioned about structural flaws in the U.S. welfare system: Welfare spending has surged 765% over 50 years, now costing $1.4 trillion annually. Many benefits are not counted as income, creating misleading poverty statistics and perpetuating dependency. The argument advocates for welfare reform to encourage work and reduce generational poverty. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast, host Troy Trewin interviews Nando Barnett shares how he transformed Sell in Style from a small home-staging side hustle into a fast-growing multi-million-dollar company. After leaving a 10-year corporate career, he and his wife Sarah started flipping houses, which eventually led real estate agents to request their staging help. They went all-in during 2020, reinvesting everything, scaling from just the two of them to a team of 47. Nando explains how adapting as a leader, understanding clients deeply, and taking fast action fueled their growth to more than 1,400 jobs a year. He also highlights the importance of systems, mentorship, and building a strong team culture. The journey shows how clarity, bold risks, and a client-first mindset can turn a simple idea into a highly successful business. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? According to Nando Barnett, the hardest part of growing a small business is mental attitude — staying strong when things go wrong, handling pressure, and quickly shifting from problems to solutions without getting stuck emotionally. He says you have to absorb the stress, process it, and then move forward with clear action, because your mindset determines how well you lead the business through tough moments. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Nando Barnett says the business books that helped him the most are Buy Back Your Time by Dan Martell, Atomic Habits by James Clear, and several leadership-focused books like Leaders Eat Last, which have all influenced his mindset, productivity, and approach to leading a fast-growing business. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Today, we have an episode from our friends at Booming. In a recent episode, they reported how young people are choosing trade school over college out of fear of white-collar jobs drying up. Companies appear to be making big bets that AI can replace huge chunks of their workforces. It seems like “go to trade school” has become the new “learn to code.” But Dan Grossman, professor and vice director of the UW's Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering -- says the outlook isn’t so bleak for students who still want a career in tech. On today's episode: Are reports of AI driving a “white collar bloodbath” greatly exaggerated? Booming is a production of KUOW in Seattle, a proud member of the NPR Network. Our editor is Carol Smith.
