TIP 2564 - Self-Care During Challenging Times

Listen to today's podcast... You may be like me and feeling that the challenges and changes that we are currently facing are taking their toll on your energy and your mental health. We have buckled down, and hunkered down. We will never feel at ease or in control if our task list is so long that it doesn't allow for a little downtime. A lack of self-care causes more stress. Self-care during challenging times is critical. Without it, we can not be resilient. We need to give ourselves permission to do less and to focus on our needs. To take care of ourself is restorative. People who focus on self-care are happier and have more stamina to get more accomplished. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!      Here are today's Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Self-Care Awareness Month: This pandemic is taking a toll on our work, our economy, our social lives, and also on our mental health. These are challenging times and now is the time to be kind to yourself. Now is the time to focus on what you can do, not what you can't do. Look for ways to engage in self-care that works for you. If you hate yoga, don't force yourself to workout in an on-line yoga class. You don't need the extra pressure, guilt, and challenge. Self-care is about focusing on your priorities and including yourself in those priorities. When you find yourself reacting negatively, remember the acronym STOP. Stop Take a couple of Deep Breaths Observe what is happening Proceed by recognizing your fears, frustrations, guilt, sadness, hunger, tiredness etc and take an appropriate action by making amends, satisfying the need, diverting, re-energizing, refocusing, or relaxing. Test out a variety of calming techniques. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to relaxation, meditation, or mindfulness. Taking a mini-break will remind you that you're worth it. Make a list of 10 self-care activities that resonate with you. Try to take at least one mini-break a day where you incorporate a self-care activity from your list. Samantha Rux from OSF HealthCare joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to thank the Kewanee Police, Kewanee Fire, and the Henry County Office of Emergency Management for their participation in the first full-scale drill at OSF Saint Luke on Friday. In honor of National Farm Safety and Health Week, Sam talked about free access to Silver Cloud from OSF HealthCare. Residents in OSF HealthCare-served areas now have free access to SilverCloud, an online mental health platform designed to help adults manage depression, anxiety, and stress. SilverCloud offers up to seven interactive modules featuring mindfulness exercises, journaling, and lifestyle tracking, accessible by phone, tablet, or computer. Programs are tailored for specific needs, including stress reduction, anxiety management, and addressing depression or the combination of depression and anxiety. In response to the ongoing pandemic, a special “Challenging Times” program supports those facing COVID-19-related emotional struggles. Enrollment is open to anyone 18 or older; simply register and request a program online. As fall draws near, health officials are reminding the public that timely vaccinations are key to preventing illness. Families should arrange vaccine appointments for their children, as school-based flu clinics in Kewanee will not be held this year. Adults are also encouraged to keep current with vaccines such as the flu, COVID-19, RSV, and others like hepatitis B and shingles. These shots offer vital protection, especially for older adults, pregnant women, and those with underlying health issues. Talk to your provider about updating immunizations to keep yourself and your community healthy. The flu vaccine is available at OSF Medical Centers, so make an appointment by calling your medical provider or through the OSF MyHealth App. Find more information about seasonal vaccines here. Patients using OSF HealthCare now have a new tool for managing their medical needs. The My OSF app combines a range of resources, enabling easy access to locations, appointment scheduling, bill payment, and OSF MyChart records, all from a single device. Designed to streamline the health care journey, the platform places essential information just a tap away, aiming to simplify routine tasks like checking test results or planning upcoming visits. The My OSF app is available for download, offering a more efficient, user-friendly way for patients to stay connected to their health care providers and services.

Apiculture NZ CEO Karin Kos told Mike Hosking both domestic and export factors are contributing. In 2019, New Zealand had a record 1 million hives and 10,000 beekeepers, but now there's under 500,000 hives and 7,600 beekeepers, she says. At the same time, Kos told Hosking, there was softening global demand post-Covid, particularly in some of our largest markets. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This year at the All Things Sustainable podcast, we've heard from many professionals who are uncertain about the future of climate action and sustainability and what's ahead for their careers.   We've also heard from numerous companies that continue to pursue their sustainability strategies and climate targets, even as some are talking about this less in public or changing the language they use to describe their efforts. In today's episode, we're asking: How are sustainability professionals weathering the storm?   We speak to three guests on the sidelines of an event the UN Global Compact Mexico hosted in June:   We talk with Jill Dumain, founding partner at the corporate sustainability consultancy Fractal CSOs and former Director of Global Environmental Strategy at outdoor clothing and gear company Patagonia. She says the current headwinds are a temporary setback.   "It's very easy for all of us to be myopic around this moment in time: ‘The sky is falling in. Everything is against us,'" Jill says. "But in the grand scheme of things over an arc of 15 or 20 years, this is a little bump in the road."  We sit down with Simon Mainwaring, Founder and CEO of strategic brand consultancy We First, who explains why the current moment presents an opportunity.   “We got out over our skis a little bit in terms of acronyms and making it a little bit wonkish and heady, and that not only alienated a lot of people ... it set ourselves up to be politicized in a way that didn't really serve the intent behind this work,” Simon tells us. "As a result, we're being forced to walk back some of that wonkish language and reframe our language to reach back and take people with us.”   And we hear from Christopher Lilholm, Global Head of ESG and Sustainability Services at DNV, an assurance and risk management firm.   Listen to our episode How companies in Latin America are embedding sustainability amid shifting dynamics  Listen to our episode ..   Explore how companies are approaching sustainability via S&P Global Sustainable1's Corporate Sustainability Assessment data.  The All Things Sustainable podcast from S&P Global will be an official media partner of The Nest Climate Campus during Climate Week NYC. He also explores the traditional descriptions of dukkha before going on to examine what Joanna Macy calls apathy or our disconnection from the world. What if someone followed you around for a day—would they be convinced you're a follower of Christ? This question launches us into a soul-searching exploration of faith in action, both personally and nationally. The American Soul Podcast doesn't shy away from hard truths. As tensions escalate around immigration enforcement, with violence against ICE agents reportedly up 700%, we examine the concerning disconnect between political rhetoric and the safety of American communities. The silence from those who should speak out reveals much about our current national priorities.Drawing from 2 Corinthians 4, we find profound comfort for difficult times: "Momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison." Whether facing chronic illness, broken relationships, or the loss of loved ones, the Christian's hope extends beyond temporal struggles to eternal promises. The historical records tell a remarkable story. Yale President Ezra Stiles once cataloged the "indubitable interposition" of divine providence in American independence—unexpected military victories, critical weather patterns that thwarted British forces, and the timely discovery of Benedict Arnold's treason. Our founding generation recognized America wasn't blessed because of their superiority, but through God's mercy when they humbled themselves.Perhaps most sobering are the historical accounts of religious persecution that reveal why our ancestors risked everything for freedom. These serve as warnings against complacency in our own time, as ideological conflicts intensify between traditional American values and opposing worldviews. The patterns of history offer perspective for today's challenges. When you subscribe to the American Soul Podcast, you're joining a community that seeks wisdom from our past to navigate our present, always pointing toward an eternal perspective that transcends temporal conflicts.Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

When approached through the lens of your Core Value Offer (CVO)—a teaching I also discuss in the previous episode—personal branding is about embodying the energy you bring to everything you do. For HSPs, this clarity serves as a steady foundation during these continued exceptional times, in a world that often feels overwhelming. It supports marketing, leadership, and visibility in a way that aligns with your nervous system rather than against it, making it a powerful tool for creating more impact and more income, with less effort. This week’s episode is a continuation from our last episode. In this part two, we explore how to stay visible during challenging times by anchoring into your personal brand. Whether you’re personal experience of challenging times is facing loss, illness, emotional upheaval, or just the disorientation that can come with seasonal shifts, your CVO acts as both anchor and rudder—keeping you grounded while guiding you forward. We talk about how embracing your brand energy allows you to creatively access both/and: you can have BOTH both a sense of disruption from the season of summer AND remain in service. And the golden key to it all is privilege of agency—the reminder that you can design your business and leadership in a way that actually works for you, rather than against you. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! It's June 25th, a new day in our journey through the scriptures together. I'm your host Hunter, your brother and Bible reading coach—coming alongside you daily to walk through the pages of God's Word and point the way to the living Word, Jesus. In today's episode, we dive into the dramatic visions of the prophet Joel (chapters 1–3), where we hear about devastating locust invasions, calls to repentance, and God's faithful promise to restore and pour out His Spirit on all people. Then, we turn to 2 Timothy chapter 1, as Paul encourages Timothy to "fan into flame" the gift of God within him, reminding us all that God has given us a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline—not fear. Together, we'll reflect on what it means to tend the fire of God's presence in our lives, trust Him in every season, and pray for His Spirit to move in our world today. So grab your Bible, settle in, and let's be nourished by God's Word and presence—because you are deeply loved, and you don't have to walk this path alone. Let's begin today's reading and prayer, right here on the Daily Radio Bible. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Fan into flame the gift of God. If you want to cook, you're going to need some fire. If you're going to eat, you're going to need some heat. Every day, you must fan into flame that gift, that fire, that God has ignited in your life. That's what Paul is telling Timothy here in 2 Timothy 1. He says, This is why I remind you—apparently he's told him this before—to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. The fire of God's abiding presence in us illuminates our path. It gives us power to live out our purpose. Paul tells Timothy: let it burn. Let it light the path. Fan that into flame. Do all that is necessary to tend that fire within you, then see what God will do. And the same is true for us. God has given us a gift—it's his abiding presence in us. There's a specific purpose that he has uniquely gifted each of us for. And it's the Spirit's fire that will illuminate that path for us and empower us to participate with God and to live out our purpose, even this very day. As you abide in him and walk with him and trust him, the fire of God's presence—his Spirit abiding in you—will show you what's required of you. Ask him to make you diligent, to tend to that fire of life, his life in you. May you fulfill all of his purposes for you. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Gracious and everlasting God, you have brought us through the shadow of night into the promise of a new day. You go before us with your mercy, sustain us by your grace and keep us from wandering paths of fear or pride. Let every word we speak and every step we take be formed by the goodness of Christ. O Lord, gather your people far and near. May every tribe and tongue come to know your peace. Let justice roll like a river and healing flow where there has been division. Pour out your spirit upon all flesh and bring us closer to the day when your kingdom comes in fullness through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
