Let's think about someone in our life, or maybe even you, who you would say qualifies as a very independent person. This person may show that they hardly ask for help and prefer to do things on their own. This person may also prefer to live a more solo led lifestyle. You may even label this person as strong and resilient. As much as that is true, this is also often a trauma response from something that happened earlier in our lives. For me, my first memory of feeling it is safer to just do things on my own was when I was about 5 years old and my dad wanted to teach me how to ride a two-wheel bike. Because I was learning, I fell a lot. I scraped myself up, it hurt and I became scared and frustrated. My dad, not knowing how to comfort me, became angry. The next time he left for work, I took matters into my own hands and taught myself how to ride a bike. From this very young age, I learned how to comfort and support myself and grew a deep belief that it would be better for me to do things on my own. However, this doesn't normally lead to quality relationships and life. I struggled in work if it had anything do with a team. I pushed people out of my life and my relationships struggled. All until I learned how to heal those independent parts of me and let my younger self know that it is ok to ask for support, to struggle, to fail and to be seen doing it all. In this Vlog, I talk more in depth about my story and lead you through an integration practice to begin to speak the needs to your younger self so that you may begin to open yourself to more supportive relationships. You are capabale Interview with Meg Hammond Welcome friends to a special interview with my friend, Meg Hammond. Meg is a blogger for Wheel Life Blog and a life coach where she helps women live in confidence after a spinal cord injury. Meg experienced an accident at only 23 years old that injured her spine labeled a T4 complete injury, meaning she does not have any function or feeling below her injury level (upper waist/chest area). Since her injury, she has lived 100% independently, worked full time (two different careers), and is a chapter leader for the United Spinal Association Northeast Ohio Chapter. Life is fulfilling, even after a spinal cord injury if you make it fulfilling. She kayaks, bike rides using a handcycle, and has meaningful relationships in her life. Her life has meaning and it has a purpose - every life has that. This is an incredibly inspiring episode of being capable of anything no matter what the circumstance. As many of you know, breathwork has been one of the most profound modalities I have come across to date. Breath awareness can help us move from a fight/flight/freeze response to a rest and relax state of being. Our breath can help us to begin to calm our nervous system and find healing from the inside out. Our lungs are also the space within the body that holds the emotions of grief, sorrow, sadness and hopelessness. Welcome November! I hope you had a wonderfully magical October and I know we had fun celebrating with our Witchy Women interviews throughout the month. All the women I had the pleasure of interviewing were so inspiring, deeply belonging to themselves which is difficult to place words on. As we now step into November, we begin to step into the beginning of the holiday season- at least we are here in the states. When I think about the holiday season, the first emotion I think of that we feel collectively is grief. I find grief to be such a beautiful emotion. An emotion that once it is bestowed upon us is here for our lifetime. Once we allow ourselves to fully move through grief at our own pace, we are able to live simultaneously in joy and in grief. We find that they co-exist wonderfully together. A thought that many of us have never been taught. Far too often we are taught to fear grief, push vulnerability aside and be strong, move on. But the truth is, grief will be an emotion that exists within us no matter what. It is energy in motion and it needs to be loved and space held for. Today's episode will take you through the 5 stages of grief mixed with my own personal experiences with it plus a lovely practice at the end to feel into the repressed emotions. Embodiment is my jam. I am in love with this very simple yet extremely powerful and profound results. I love all things law of attraction and manifesting (I teach about the subconscious and mindset, after all) however, I just can't get down with the idea of acting as if. To me, that term implies that what you are desiring is not yet here and that you need to pretend. Pretending doesn't offer any favors! When we are acting as if, our subconscious mind knows we are lying to it. It doesn't feel good, it is not creating a trusting relationship, it is just giving off bad vibes all around. Embodiment is on a whole other level! Embodiment is being it. Having it now, feeling it now. Knowing it is yours, it is here, because it is! If you can think it and you can feel it that means that it exists. So be it now. Don't pretend, just be it! And please do not freak out if you feel like you "can't" meditate. This episode was recorded based upon request from a listener. They wanted to know how to deal with people in their life who judge or criticize them for their past. Even though they have changed, and evolved from who they once were. Still judged based upon scars from the past. If we have not taken the time to go back, forgive and heal our scars- when other people poke them it will still hurt. Because rather than a scar- these past moments are still an open wound. I thought I had forgiven my relationship with my dad because I was able to find compassion for him at the end of his life but I hadn't. From years of holding anger and resentment to my dad- consciously for a few years and unconsciously in the 3 years he hasn't been in his human body, I was unconsciously closing myself off the the Masculine and to God/Universe. By closing off to the masculine, I was closing off to support, protection, abundance and security. I was closing myself off from my feminine being. I was closing myself off to receiving. After getting a beautiful reading done that encouraged me to heal the relationship with my dad, so much opened up for me. Paige Brown also known as The Experience Better Lifestylist, is an Empowerment Coach, Health and Wellness Guide and a Brand Affiliate for an amazing Athletic Wear Company that supports women and children in need. As we begin to remember our power and return to who we truly are, we become like onions. We begin to slowly peel back each individual layer- each layer, exposing a belief, a pattern, a space to heal. We are asked to release, heal and forgive. All of these things have their own unique challenges and I for one believe forgiveness to be one of the most difficult. In order to truly release, we must forgive. Forgiveness of self and the forgiveness of others. Now let me be clear here, you are not forgiving anyone because they deserve it. You are forgiving because YOU deserve it. When we hold onto resentment towards another we are unknowingly giving all our power away. Much of our days are consumed with thoughts of hate towards this person. Not only is it consuming your mind but it is also taking away your peace and your wellbeing. When we think of something or someone we hate, cortisol begins to be pumped through the body, putting us in fight or flight mode. Your breath becomes shallow, heart rate accelerates and blood pressure rises. All this because of a thought. Bring all your power back by finding the courage to forgive. You can release resentment but still hold someone accountable. And to be extra clear here, this does not mean you are forming a relationship with this person nor are you allowing this person to come into your life. You are ONLY freeing yourself! We have two nervous systems- the parasympathetic and the sympathetic. The sympathetic is the fight or flight with experiences such as those listed above, and the parasympathetic is the rest and digest- much of what we experience in meditation and yoga. However, when we experience stress (resentment, hate, guilt, shame, etc) for long periods of time, we seem to only operate in sympathetic. It is very hard to pump the breaks and relax.
