In this episode, Karen Tate unveils the forgotten, hidden, and often deliberately erased history behind Christmas and its deeper human roots. She sheds light on Mother Mary's true role—not just as a symbolic figure, but as a sacred feminine presence whose power and influence were minimized or repurposed by early religious scholars. Karen also discusses insights from her book Normalizing Abuse, where she exposes the "gatekeepers" who have shaped our collective knowledge, beliefs, and social conditioning. She explores how society has been taught to accept control, limitation, and even abuse as normal—often to benefit a select few. If you're curious about the intersection of spirituality, history, feminism, and personal empowerment, this is a conversation you won't want to miss. https://karentate.net Joanne's Book to help family Manage Emotions:Super Dog Helps Boys Fears A 30-second free guide to see if you qualify at ServiceDogPro.com! https://podcast.feedspot.com/anxiety_podcasts/ https://podcast.feedspot.com/us_psychology_podcasts/ sts/
It's not just a song!
Read OnlineMary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior… He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.” Luke 1:46; 52–53The last two sentences quoted from our Blessed Mother's song of praise give us much to ponder. She, who is the Mother of God and full of grace, rejoiced that God “cast the mighty down from their thrones” and “the rich he sent away empty.” It's understandable that she rejoiced in God Who “has lifted up the lowly” and “has filled the hungry with good things,” but the first two statements might give us pause. In this context, when people are “mighty” and “rich,” we must understand this to mean those who act in a self-sufficient way, not recognizing their need for God. This tendency is easy to fall into. It is especially tempting for those who are successful in life. Without a deep prayer life and awareness of God's activity in our lives, we can easily fall into the trap of thinking that we are in charge of our own destiny. When this happens, the most merciful thing God can do for us is to cast us down from our self-sufficient throne and send us away to experience the emptiness of our worldly riches. The key to happiness in life is not attaining great power or riches. The key is found in humility, by which we recognize our absolute need for and dependence on God. Why? Because as the great Saint Augustine wrote in his book Confessions, “You have formed us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You, oh Lord.”Would you be happier if you were rich or poor? Powerful or powerless? Famous or unknown? These questions cannot be answered because neither riches nor poverty, power nor powerlessness, fame nor obscurity have anything to do with true happiness. Though each person falling into any of these categories can find happiness, the categories themselves do not determine that happiness. True happiness comes by discovering God within one's spiritual poverty and hunger. When we perceive our souls correctly, we will understand Saint Augustine's famous quote. We will realize that God alone fulfills us, and that doing His will enables us to become who we were created to be. When that discovery happens, we will hunger and thirst for God, and doing the will of God will become the all-consuming desire of our souls. Our God, in His great mercy and love for us, loves such a humble and hungry soul, lavishing spiritual riches upon it. Reflect today on the intense interior fulfillment our Blessed Mother had. She did not live in a lavish castle with numerous servants. She was not the governor of her town, exercising great temporal power. But she was happy beyond what we can imagine because in her lowliness, humility, and hunger for God, she found perfect satisfaction. As you ponder her happiness, seek her intercession and strive to follow her example, no matter what temporal or worldly situation you find yourself in. Dearest Mother Mary, you rejoiced and proclaimed God's greatness, not because of any material or passing blessings God gave you but because of the spiritual richness you possessed within your soul. Please pray for me, that I will discover God's presence in my life as the true source of fulfillment and will hunger for Him with every desire of my soul. Mother Mary, pray for me. There is a gentle, powerful balance between choosing and surrendering. Mother Mary calls this balance the Sweet Spot—a state of miracle readiness, where creation flows with ease. In this Morning Light Meditation, you are guided into that sacred space where intention and surrender meet. As you choose, and then lovingly release the outcome, you step into the true arena of co-creation. This is where life begins to move with you rather than against you. When you invite your Beloved I AM Presence to participate in your choices, you open the door to a joyful quickening of your ascension. This is not giving your power away—it is a beautiful surrender into partnership at the highest level. This meditation is drawn directly from Jennifer's book, Opulence Infusion – A New Faith Currency. Read OnlineIn the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.” Luke 1:26–29The phrase “full of grace” is a translation of the Greek word kecharitomene. It can be translated more literally as “having been graced” or “you who have been fully graced.” The tense of the word indicates that Mary has been graced by God in a unique and ongoing way, implying that this grace was not a one-time event but something encompassing her entire being and continuing to have effect. What was the Blessed Virgin Mary's response to this amazing greeting? She pondered the archangel's greeting with humility and initially responded with silence and in awe. Gabriel, aware of Mary's humility in her silence, says, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God…” Gabriel then goes on to tell her she will conceive the Son of God within her womb.Given her immaculate nature and the fullness of grace within her soul, Mary immediately obeyed the archangel's command and did not give into fear. Yet her “greatly troubled” heart led her to ongoing pondering and contemplation of all that was said to her.As we draw closer to the Solemnity of Christmas, we are invited to share in the Blessed Mother's contemplation of the mystery of the Incarnation. We can be certain that as Gabriel departed from her, her prayerful pondering did not cease. The ongoing fullness of grace within her soul led her to the deepest contemplation of this divine mystery that was humanly possible. Her mind would have penetrated the words spoken to her and perceived the mystery of the Incarnation taking place within her womb in ways that even she could not explain. With the fullness of grace came the fullness of infused knowledge, which is beyond human articulation. In our lives, we often fail to humbly ponder the profound reality of the Incarnation. We must have a “troubled heart” in the sense of remaining in awe of what God has done for us by taking on our human nature. We must allow Mary's pondering to become our own so that we enter more deeply into the great mystery we celebrate. As we prepare for the celebration of Christmas, reflect upon Mary's pondering mind and heart. Though we will never engage in her depth of contemplative prayer, she is our model. We must accept every divine mystery revealed to us with faith and then grapple with each mystery on a deeper level that can only be accomplished by contemplative prayer. Those who attain this depth of prayer are drawn exceptionally close to God Who uses them to continue the effect of the Incarnation by spiritually giving birth to Christ in their lives. Immaculate Mother of God, you were called “full of grace” by the Archangel Gabriel. You humbly listened to all that was spoken to you and accepted it with faith, surrender, and humility. Please pray for me, that I will imitate your pondering Immaculate Heart so that I will be better prepared for the great Solemnity of Christmas Day. Mother Mary, pray for me. La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Celine from the Parish of Saint Marinus Yohanes in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Judges 13: 2-7.24-25a; Rs psalm 71: 3-4a.5-6ab.16-17; Luke 1: 5-25.MIRACULOUSPREPARATION Thetitle for our meditation today is: Miraculous Preparation. Preparation is themain theme of Advent. We have reflected on the great preparation as carried outby John the Baptist and Elijah. There is also a form of preparation thathighlights God's justice with the King David, the results of which aremanifested in the person of Mother Mary and Saint Joseph. Then today we areintroduced to a form of miraculous preparation, with the main characters beingManoah's wife or Samson's mother, and John the Baptist's parents, Zachariah andElizabeth. Wecall it a miraculous preparation, and not just great, because it is close to amuch more miraculous event, namely the birth of the Savior, which is already soonto come. The miraculous event in the lives of Mary and Joseph which ismanifested in the birth of Jesus Christ, certainly must be anticipated by amiraculous preparation as well. And this miraculous preparation was the birthof Samson from his mother who was barren, as well as the birth of John theBaptist from Elisabeth who was also claimed to be barren. Zakariah, Elisabeth'shusband, is also included in this circle of miracles. Ifyou dare to ask yourself, what miracle must be prepared to welcome thecelebration of the birth of Jesus Christ this year? Something magical alwaysamazes or more precisely, something new that makes us wonder. However, havingexperience a special relationship with God does not have to be big andmagnificent. Miraculous or wonderful thing doesn't have to be somethingextraordinary. Jesus Christ, who was born in simplicity, is enough to give usan idea that miracles are the experiences of finding light and answers aboutour lives in God. Someonewrote on the social media wall about her family's miraculous preparation forthis Christmas. "My youngest child, who is already a young man, over thelast years has not been able to get along and agree with us, his parents. Justthis past day he opened up and talked to us. We actually stopped at the exactplace where our child was, so that our communication could be connected, theconversation would flow, and finally a solution to our problem could bereached. May this Christmas be a very beautiful experience in our family”. Thissmall sharing is a miraculous preparation, which of course will be aligned withthe miracle of the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. We as individuals, families, and communities need to prepare miraculously or in a new way, inorder to find that harmony and unity. If there is nothing miraculous or newexperience, wouldn't the Christmas celebration be ordinary, without anything wonderful? Let us pray. In thename of the Father... O merciful God, make us individuals and families who can renewour lives through miraculous preparation for this Christmas. Glory to theFather and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...

Today's Witness Wednesday is about my trip to Ecuador. Let me explain in a bit more detail how and why I decided to go to Ecuador. My brother-in-law, Daniel's best friend, has been in the hospital for a month now. He had a heart attack and then a stroke. Daniel sent me a message asking me to pray for his friend Anival. I then sent this prayer request out to all those I know who could pray for him. Everyone started to pray for him, and I asked Daniel for an update. He said he was still in a coma and they were waiting for him to wake up so they could do the CT scan. However, they were decreasing the sedation, and he wasn't waking up.Then Daniel asked me for more prayers as they did the CT scan, and it said that there was more damage than they thought. It showed that he still had oxygen bubbles in his brain. When I got this text message from Daniel, I relayed it to all those who were praying for him, as I feel the more specific we can pray for someone, the better, as it shows all the more glory to God when he answers our specific prayers. Then I got another message from Daniel a week or so later, saying that Anival got worse and they need him to start breathing on his own so that he can start eating, as he is not getting enough nutrients. When I got this message from Daniel, I also felt like I got a message from the Holy Spirit asking me to go to Ecuador to pray over Anibal in person. I thought this sounded a bit crazy, so I did what everyone should do when they feel like the Holy Spirit is telling them to do something that seems crazy. I discerned it with my spiritual director. I told her what I thought I heard, and I asked her to pray about it and see what the Holy Spirit says to her about it.She said the first thing she heard was “go” and then she asked Him to confirm it for her. The way this usually happens for her is that she sees the word she heard other places throughout the day. In this instance, she saw what looked like “go” on two different license plates throughout her day. She felt that was the confirmation she was looking for. As I was walking into the prayer group on Thursday morning, I asked the Lord to let me hear something at the meeting that confirmed that He wanted me to go. I was surprised because I didn't really hear anything during the meeting. Then, at the end, while we were cleaning up, one of our members, who just went to the national conference for Charismatic Catholics in the United States, said, “The main message of the entire conference was to Go Out. Don't just stay in the comfort of praying within your prayer group, but be bold and go out into the world and pray with others.” I took this as the confirmation that I had asked the Lord for.Now it was time to talk to my husband about it. It was not a good time for me to go to Ecuador, as he works for the government, so he is not getting a paycheck right now. Also, he was going out of the country to visit our son Noah since he is away in Scotland for school and happened to have a week off for his Birthday. Tony is not working and has a free travel credit. They were staying with a friend, so it would not be an expensive trip, and the timing was great for that trip. Another reason the timing wasn't great for this call to go to Ecuador is that in order for me to go with my sister, Daniel, and their daughter, I would have to leave before Tony got back. This isn't a big deal, as our kids at home are 17 and 21. They would be fine without us for a night, but it would have been better if we didn't have to leave them alone for a night.Anyway, I talked with Tony about the trip, and he wasn't thrilled with the idea of me going, especially since he is not getting paid and we would both be out of the country at the same time. However, he didn't say I couldn't go, and I felt strongly that I was supposed to go, so I looked at getting a ticket. Before going to dinner, the tickets were $576. When I got home from dinner and tried to buy the ticket, it had gone up to $698. I went back and forth between Expedia and Travelocity, and I couldn't find a ticket for less than $600 now. I sent my sister a message explaining that the tickets were too much, and so I didn't think I could go. Then, I had a chat with God. I explained that there was no way I could spend $700 on a ticket when Tony wasn't thrilled about me going in the first place. I told him that if he wanted me to go He was going to have to do something about these ticket prices. I switched back to Expedia one last night before giving up for the night, and there was one ticket for $540. Thank you, Jesus!! I bought it and was excited that I would be on my way to Ecuador in just one week. There were lots of things that were trying to get in the way of my going on this trip, which is another way I knew I was supposed to go, and that God was going to move powerfully. Whenever we are about to do some amazing work for the Lord, the enemy tries to put up a million roadblocks. I fought through each one of them. I discerned them to make sure they weren't legitimate reasons why I shouldn't go, and ultimately decided it was ok if I went.I got there last Friday night, and so it wasn't until the next morning that we got to go to the hospital. They have a much different visitation schedule than we have in the States. They are only allowed to visit their loved ones for 15 minutes twice a day, and it can be only one person at a time. Also, sometimes they switch up the times. One day, we waited for over an hour and a half before I was able to go in and pray over him. The first day, we missed the visitation time as they did it early that day, around 11. However, they talked with the staff, and they allowed me to go in and pray for a few minutes. I wasn't really sure what to say, but I just let him know that he was loved by the Lord, by Jesus, and by Mother Mary. I prayed commands over his body to be healed. I asked the Lord for a healing. I begged the Lord for a healing. I said all I could think to say.Someone came and knocked on the door and told me my time was up. I went out into the hallway and waited with the family. Then the doctor came and talked with Daniel, Anival's sister, and his daughter. They said there was an infection in his finger, and they needed to amputate the finger or it would spread to the other fingers. They also said most of the brain area was dead, so that he would never walk again. He would be paralyzed from the neck down. This, of course, made the family very upset. I sent out an updated prayer request, letting everyone know the new details. After leaving the hospital on Saturday, I asked the Lord for a sign that He would heal Anival. I saw what appeared to be the shadow of a chalice with the Eucharist on it. I also saw a bumper sticker that said Nothing is impossible for God. Nada es imposible para Dios. I knew those were both signs from the Lord that He would work in this situation. We weren't in that town on Sunday, so the next time I could pray was Monday. We went on Monday morning and Monday evening. When we went in the morning, they talked to the doctor on call, and he said they do not need to amputate the finger. Thank you, Lord, prayers answered!! Daniel also asked if they could do another CT scan of the brain, as we saw Anibal cry and smile, and they hadn't seen this. They said they would do another one.I have not heard if they have done it yet or not, but the family was in a much better place on Monday than they were after the news on Saturday. I really felt as if Anibal could understand what I was saying on Monday, not as much on Saturday. Saturday, he did seem to smile and look at me a bit. However, on Monday, especially the second time, his face seemed to come alive. He had tears coming out of at least one eye when I told him how loved he was and that God was there with him. I told him he was never alone and no matter what, he could always talk to the Lord and ask for whatever he wanted. I told him God loves to do impossible things, so ask big! I explained it didn't matter what he had done in the past; the second we tell God and ask for forgiveness, we are forgiven. I asked him to fight hard to stay with his family and he seemed to respond. I commanded his body to heal. I explained that God had asked me to come all the way from America to tell Anibal how much he is loved by God.I got home late Tuesday night, and my brother-in-law, Daniel, checked in on Wednesday to see how I was doing. I told him that this is the part I have a hard time with; we all probably do. Now is the time to trust in the waiting. Now is the time to thank the Lord for the work we haven't yet seen and to keep hoping that, in His time, He will heal Anival. I believe He will heal him. Around dinner time on Wednesday, Daniel sent me another text message that was like music to my ears. It said that I just got news and that Anibal woke up! He finally regained consciousness after over 30 days. He also said he responded to the order of the doctor when they said to open the mouth and other things with the face. Thank you, God! Thank you, Jesus! You are so good!!! Praise God!! When I checked in on Sunday, they said he is better. He is actually getting a bit anxious because he knows where he is, but doesn't know what happened. This is good. Not that he is anxious, but that his brain is recognizing where he is and that it is thinking. They also said he is feeling more pain. Which again, we don't want him to be in pain, but it could mean he is not paralyzed and his limbs are trying to respond.Whatever all of that means, I believe Anibal will get to walk out of the hospital and be reunited with his family and dance with his daughter again someday. I am not a fan of waiting, but sometimes it is necessary, as God knows the best time to work His miracles. God is in all of this. That is something I know with my whole being. I am 100% sure God is in this, and I am so excited to see how it all unfolds.Thank you, Lord! Thank you for calling me to go on this trip and for allowing me to be part of this miracle. Thank you for the amazing time I got to spend with family. I made some wonderful memories this weekend. Thank you for the miracles you are working in this situation. Thank you for the results of this next brain scan. Thank you for whatever progress in healing is made before the scan. If it's not all the way healed, Lord, please make sure they do another one. Lord, thank you for the full restoration of his mind and body. Thank you, Lord, all the Glory is yours!!Don't worry, I will keep you updated as I know so many of you are also praying for Anibal! In this deeply moving session, Christine supports Sheylee—a devoted mother who is pregnant with her seventh child and struggling under the weight of shame, overwhelm, and fear. After believing she was done having children, this unexpected pregnancy has stirred painful emotions, identity confusion, and unresolved relational patterns in her partnership. Christine helps her gently unravel the layers of guilt, inner criticism, and pressure she has carried for years. Together, they explore how to hold two truths at once: loving a child while not feeling joyful about the circumstances, being grateful and overwhelmed at the same time, and honoring both human emotion and spiritual perspective. If you've ever felt shame for how you feel, feared getting "stuck" in a hard season, or struggled to access compassion for yourself, this conversation offers relief, grounding, and a renewed sense of permission to be honest about your emotional reality. Consider / Ask Yourself: Is there something in your life you believe you "should" feel happy about—but you don't? Do you fear that if you let yourself feel your emotions, you won't be able to stop? Do you often feel unsupported—emotionally, spiritually, or relationally? Are you harder on yourself than anyone else is? Do you hear an inner critic more loudly than your own compassion? Key Insights and A-HAs: Shame about how you feel is often more damaging than the feelings themselves. It is possible—and healthy—to hold two truths at once ("both/and"). Emotional release is not falling apart; it's moving energy through the body. Many women confuse caretaking with connection or worthiness. Inner critics often come from childhood patterns of control, hypervigilance, or judgment. Spiritual support (God, Mother Mary, or a higher loving presence) can hold us when people cannot. How to Deepen the Work: Practice the both/and: "I love this baby AND I am overwhelmed." Create space each day to sit with your feelings rather than suppress them. Replace harsh self-talk with compassion through simple practices like Ho'oponopono: I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you. Call on unseen spiritual support when human support feels unavailable. Identify where old survival strategies are still active—and begin updating them with gentler internal dialogue. Explore ways to communicate needs in your partnership with clarity rather than collapse. Do you remember the holiday special "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"? It is one of my favorites, but recently I realized that it is also a POWERFUL manifestation story too! In this episode, I share how the Grinch is a mindset that might be stealing YOUR miracles right now! I will teach you how to recognize this sneaky thief and stop it in its tracks, as well as how all the Whos in Whoville show us exactly how to magnify our miracles! I would LOVE to know if this story resonates with you! PS- If you want support to overcome the Grinch mindset, click here to schedule a Miracle Meeting with me! Key Learnings: 1) The Grinch Who Stole Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas specials. Recently, during a coaching session with a client, Mother Mary used this story to illustrate how the Grinch is a mindset that can steal our miracles, if we let him! 2) The Grinch mindset is the logical and often critical mind that talks us out of our ideas and inspirations. This tricky voice in your head often sounds reasonable and responsible, which is how it tricks you into putting off acting on your dream. But don't be fooled! Just as the Grinch lied to Cindy Loo Who, who was no more than two, that he was fixing the tree and would return it, your inner Grinch lies to you too by telling you 'you are not ready for your miracle.' 3) The best part of the Grinch story is the very end, where all the Whos in Whoville come out and celebrate Christmas anyway. They don't let their outer circumstances dictate their reality; they create their reality by "acting as if!" This powerful action causes the outer world to shift to match their energy, and the Grinch returns all of the stolen Christmas items to them. "The Grinch mindset tricks you into believing your circumstances create your reality. Be like the Whos of Whoville and 'act as if' your miracle is already here!" Join Rolf Jacobson, Kathryn Schifferdecker, and Karoline Lewis as they explore Jesus' first miracle in the Gospel of John—the wedding at Cana. This episode unpacks the theological significance of John's "Book of Signs" and what it means that Jesus inaugurates his public ministry not with fasting or wilderness temptation, but with overflowing wine at a celebration.Key Themes Explored:* The Book of Signs: Understanding John's unique structure (chapters 1-12) and how the seven signs point to Jesus' identity and the grace he offers* Grace Upon Grace: How the abundance at Cana—six stone jars holding 20-30 gallons each, filled to the brim with the best wine—embodies John 1:16's promise of grace upon grace* Honor and Shame: The cultural context of first-century Palestinian weddings and how Jesus' intervention saves a family from public disgrace* The Role of Jesus' Mother: Mary's unique presence in John's Gospel, appearing only at the beginning and end of Jesus' public ministry, and her profound recognition of who Jesus is* Signs vs. Miracles: Why John calls these events "signs" (σημεῖα) rather than miracles—they point beyond the act itself to reveal God's presence and powerWhy This Matters for Preaching:The hosts discuss how this narrative offers multiple homiletical directions: the experience of abundance in our lives, the removal of shame through Christ's compassion, and the call to "do whatever he tells you"—a pattern that continues throughout John's Gospel where obedience to Jesus leads to transformation and abundance.Karoline Lewis brings her expertise in Johannine literature to illuminate how this first sign sets the pattern for Jesus' entire ministry in John and how it differs significantly from the synoptic gospels' approach to Jesus' early ministry.

For Episode 469, Josh Parham, Giovanni Lago, Daniel Howat, and Tom O'Brien join me for what is one of the biggest episodes of the year. We knew heading into this week we would have to discuss the Gotham, NYFCC, and NBR winners, the AFI Top 10 films of the year, the CCA and Spirit Award nominations, and briefly touch on the Golden Globe Award nominations before they're announced. But then the industry dropped a bombshell: Netflix will acquire Warner Bros., a power move that threatens to be a seismic shift across the industry, with many implications for the future. For this week's poll, we ask our famous question: "Which Film Do You Think is Going To Be The Next Best Picture Oscar Winner?" We also reveal the winner of last week's poll, for the release of "Jay Kelly," where we asked, "Which Is Your Favorite George Clooney Performance?" In addition, we share our reactions to the trailers for "Mother Mary," "Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come," "Scarlet," "Midwinter Break," answer your fan-submitted questions, and more. Have you ever wished that you could pray like a saint? Most people probably think that a saint prays in a formal and pious kind of way… but nothing could be further from the truth! If you long to have the type of intimate connection with the Divine that saints experience, this is the episode for you! In this episode, I share the simple and powerful prayer method of St. Catherine Laboure, who experienced two apparitions of Mother Mary and brought the Miraculous Medal into being! I hope you find St. Catherine's approach to prayer as easy to follow and inspiring as I do! Let me know if you are going to try this method in your prayer practice! PS – One thing many saints have in common is a close connection to the Angels! You can too when you join the Archangel Attunement & Mentoring Program! Key Learnings: 1) One thing I love about the saints is their intimate relationship with the Divine. This intimacy is often reflected in their prayers. Rather than being formal and pious, their prayers are often conversational and filled with devotion, much like how you might talk with a dear friend or loved one. 2) On a recent visit to the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Philadelphia, I noticed something I hadn't seen before. On the wall was the Prayer of St. Catherine Laboure. The prayer itself is simple, but it says so much. And she gives us much more than a prayer, St. Catherine teaches us how to talk AND listen to God. 3) Here is the prayer written on the plaque of the Basilica: Whenever I go to the chapel, I put myself in the presence of our good Lord, and I say to Him, "Lord, I am here. Tell me what you would have me to do." If He gives me some task, I am content, and I thank Him. If He gives me nothing, I still thank Him, since I do not deserve to receive anything more than that. And then, I tell God everything that is in my heart. I tell Him about my pains and joys, and then I listen. If you listen, God will also speak to you, for with the good Lord, you have to both speak and listen. God always speaks to you when you approach Him plainly and simply." Join Micah, Aaron, and Jules as we discuss the building of the tabernacle and vestments for the priests in Exodus 25-28. Why do these ancient descriptions matter for our own perception of our faith? How is God's presence mediated through these objects in the tabernacle and in our own religious practices? And how is the early church reimagining the ark of the covenant as Mother Mary--and how can that reenvisioning of the story help us reimagine our role in our own times? Find out some perspectives on these questions and more on this episode of The Word in Black and Red!Jules' awesome content can be found on xiantifa.itch.io.Aaron's amazing show All Things Made New can be found wherever good podcasts are served.https://linktr.ee/twibar Hosted on Acast. Faithspotting hosts Kenny Dickson and Mike Hatch review and spot faith elements in the film The Carpenter's Son by director Lotfy Nathan. Included in the episode is Mike and Kenny's interview with Lotfy Nathan. The Carpenter's Son is based on the apocryphal text, The Infancy Gospel of Thomas. The text is a collection of non-canonical stories of Jesus during the years He and Mary and Joseph were in exile in Egypt. The stories depict the struggle of the Holy Family as Jesus becomes aware of his differences and as he grows into his divinity. Collected in the 2nd or 3rd centuries, the stories are not considered part of the Biblical canon but reflect tradition and perhaps curisosity of followers about the childhood of Jesus. The film has been called a "Jesus horror film" by many, and while aknowledging it's darkness, Nathan considers it more of a spiritual and perhaps theological thriller. The film stars Nicolas Cage as the Carpenter, (Joseph) Noah Jupe as the boy (Jesus), FKA Twigs as the Mother (Mary) and Isla Johnston as the stranger (Satan) and Souheila Yacoub as Lilith. Faith Spotted: Discussion about the Infancy Gospel of Thomas within the Christian tradition. How imagining the full meaning of Jesus's full humanity and divinity, and the struggles beyond his ministry and crucifixion can strengthen one's relationship with Christ and one's faith. Imagining what is was like to be Jesus's parents, especially for Joseph to be his earthly, stepfather. Through the interview there is an opportunity to hear about director Lotfy Nathan and his Biblical and theological awareness growing up in the Coptic Orthodox tradition, and how he seeks to use those lessons in sharing this story. The film speaks to people of fith who have doubts ander when God seems to be silent and absent in the midst of struggles in life.
Patrick opens the hour reckoning with the Vatican’s Marian document, mixing his personal devotion and firm theological stance as he sorts out why its language stirs confusion and heated opinions. Calls ricochet from vocational discernment and science-versus-faith debates, including dinosaurs and human origins, to urgent family worries about conversion and the Catholic core, and Patrick responds fast, sometimes with book recommendations, sometimes pointed scriptural references, always nudging for clarity. Paul (email) - There was no reason for this document about our Mother Mary to be produced and sent out. As you mention, it has only caused more confusion, division, and dis-unity among the faithful (00:41) Connie - I am 30 and in OCIA. Is discerning religious life something converts should do and when should they do it? Am I too old? (10:57) Maria - Did the dinosaurs really exist on earth. How long has it been since the first humans were here on earth? (19:20) Lee - Will we celebrate the anniversary Mortalium Animos? (26:19) John - Why do some Christians wear a cross without Jesus? (36:23) Shannon - Should I read Catholicism Against Itself? How can I respond to someone who is reading this book? (42:42)
