Let's think about someone in our life, or maybe even you, who you would say qualifies as a very independent person. This person may show that they hardly ask for help and prefer to do things on their own. This person may also prefer to live a more solo led lifestyle. You may even label this person as strong and resilient. As much as that is true, this is also often a trauma response from something that happened earlier in our lives. For me, my first memory of feeling it is safer to just do things on my own was when I was about 5 years old and my dad wanted to teach me how to ride a two-wheel bike. Because I was learning, I fell a lot. I scraped myself up, it hurt and I became scared and frustrated. My dad, not knowing how to comfort me, became angry. The next time he left for work, I took matters into my own hands and taught myself how to ride a bike. From this very young age, I learned how to comfort and support myself and grew a deep belief that it would be better for me to do things on my own. However, this doesn't normally lead to quality relationships and life. I struggled in work if it had anything do with a team. I pushed people out of my life and my relationships struggled. All until I learned how to heal those independent parts of me and let my younger self know that it is ok to ask for support, to struggle, to fail and to be seen doing it all. In this Vlog, I talk more in depth about my story and lead you through an integration practice to begin to speak the needs to your younger self so that you may begin to open yourself to more supportive relationships. I thought I had forgiven my relationship with my dad because I was able to find compassion for him at the end of his life but I hadn't. From years of holding anger and resentment to my dad- consciously for a few years and unconsciously in the 3 years he hasn't been in his human body, I was unconsciously closing myself off the the Masculine and to God/Universe. By closing off to the masculine, I was closing off to support, protection, abundance and security. I was closing myself off from my feminine being. I was closing myself off to receiving. After getting a beautiful reading done that encouraged me to heal the relationship with my dad, so much opened up for me. Emily is currently living the dream over in Hawaii, and also under an air traffic, which can mess with internet and cell phone reception. We tried out best- and look at that! There is still so much gold to be found in this interview. Emily's story is really an incredible one. She is a three-time CrossFit Games veteran, and collegiate althlete. She was a fit and active child, which naturally followed her into adulthood. She didn't need think about how her mindset, and lack of intuition had her reaching for things she never really wanted in her life. How she woke up in a "dream" life- and began question it all. After a difficult accusation- using performance enhancing drugs, and getting kicked out of the games, Emily did some internal digging work. This was a deviating and challenging time for Emily. She found herself questioning the world she was in. Sure she was able to travel the world, compete in elite games, meet some of the biggest names in the industry. Yet she questioned this image driven community and began to wonder- is there something deeper? Through her own journey inward and onward- she found out (as we all have the potential to find)- that oh yes, there is so much more. We're touching on the cliche topic of self love, because yes it's still important. And it really can't be faked. You need to internalize that self love train so deep so that no direction change can throw your steam engine off course. When you love yourself so fully and deeply that you know in the end, you are ultimatey guided and connected to something so much deeper and bigger than just you, your body, your life, surroundings. When you can go to bed every night with a sense of comfort and calm in your mind because you know you are doing your part to keep your side of the street clean. Because you know what you're doing is guided by the love you feel for yourself, which flows effortlessly and abundantly to all those around you. Emotional eating gets such a bad rap sometimes doesn't it? As if we could completely control emotional eating? And should be controlling it. As Lauren mentions- food is emotional. If you expect a life where zero emotional eating takes places, then your gonna have a bad time. You are setting yourself up to some unrealistic expectations, which leads to feelings of guilt, shame and all those feelings that keep you stuck in an unhealthy relationship with food. The truth is, no matter how focused and disciplined you are with your fitness and food routine, at some point you will "use" food in a way other than for pure nutrition and fuel. Sometimes you're just going to want the extra cake. Sometimes your going to eat so much pasta your tummy hurts. These are not faults of yours that need to be banished- this is life! Sometimes in life, when we enjoy something, it can lead to over consumption. And that is totally cool. We shouldn't try to banish this, just embrace it when we truly need it. That's where your intuition powers need to come in handy. When you are using it too frequently, and it's compromising your health, that a situation that may warrant some extra help. If it's used from time to time, and you acknowledge why it is you're using food to help you feel better- that's the intuitive eating difference. So join us, as we dive right into it! Add on episode for "The Birth of Conscious Coaching". Lauren and Jillian go through the exercise called "7 Levels Deep" or "7 Levels of Why". This can help you connect, find the "roots of your why" for any thing in your life (relationship, career, major life decision). Even minor things. In this episode we are asking each other why we run our health and wellness companies. This exercise needs to be done with another person (not just solo or in a journal). The power of your voice connects you to the meaning here. So the person will ask the first why, and each level they'll recap your answer and keep going. The first couple of "whys" are really just your head/logic and reasoning answer. As you get deeper and deeper into the why's you crack in the gooey center. This is where the emotional, soul meaning comes through. Connecting to this deep level first of all makes sure it really is that important to you. If it is, it really helps you root into your mission so you don't lose sight as obstacles arise. In America, which is predominantly Christian, it’s common to imagine God as a white male wearing a robe and with a long white beard. So, it’s only natural to question, is that what God really looks like? As pop culture begins to recognize paganism and the worship of mother earth, you may have noticed that songs begin to identify God as a “she”. What is God really? Many people are turned away from religion by the personification of God, so by asking the gender, are we missing the point? All three women in this conversation have very different opinions of what god is, including one who believes a god doesn’t even exist. So.. instead of asking, Is God a she? Maybe we should be asking, “What is God?” Don’t forget to listen to our first compilation of the answer to that age-old question, What is God?
