Michelle and Sunni VonMutius continue their conversation from S2 E1 The Grief and Loss of Placing a Child for Adoption on the Birth Ease Loss podcast. Sunni courageously shares how the circumstances, trauma, fear, and shame from her first child's birth impacted the birth of her second child 20 years later and her experience of postpartum depression. Together they discuss the importance of trauma-informed care, exploring unconscious biases, the mind-body connection, informed consent, understanding trauma triggers, creating a postpartum care plan, self-care versus soul-care, and why the cultural conversation around adoption and placing a child for adoption must change."On the outside, I look like a pretty decent human being and on the inside, I feel like a total piece of poop when I talk about the fact that I gave my child up for adoption. And that is because of the way that society treats birth moms after the fact. … there's all sorts of judgments that come with it. I am so proud of the choice I made and when I talk about it, there's a part of me that feels like scum. That is not a viable solution in our society. If we are going to make that the only option for women, we have got to change the way we talk about adoption. We have got to change the way we treat birth moms…. There's a lot of conversation about adoption being this super easy solution and I just want to make it really clear, it is NOT simple. It is NOT easy. … Do not put it on the table like it is some sort of easy solution to a pregnancy. Because it, just like a lot of other solutions, will live with us for the rest of our lives. And, I think that's important to acknowledge" — Sunni VonMutius Notes: Michelle's episode with Sunni's Midwife Elena Rosa is 118 Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy. Today we talk to Dr. Rosita Arvigo, Naprapathic physician, International author and lecturer, and founder of The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®. She has dedicated her life and practice to preserving and elevating traditional Mayan abdominal massage practices, and using them to heal patients from all manner of reproductive system dysfunction in both body and spirit. We talk about Dr. Arvigo's apprenticeship in Mayan abdominal massage with her mentor Don Elijio Panti, and how she merged those methods with her existing work in Naprapathy to develop the Arvigo method. We also talk about uterine displacement and the way that Mayan abdominal therapy is intended to help correct it. We talk about how the displacement of the uterus disrupts blood flow, and the sorts of issues that can cause, as well as how correcting the placement and blood flow can help with a large number of reproductive issues. We also talk about how easily the uterus can become misaligned during a woman's life, which contributes to how common menstrual pain is for most women. We discuss fertility challenges and the mechanics of how lymphatic blockages caused by uterine displacement may heavily contribute. We talk about Premenstrual mood issues and which parts of them are normal and natural, and which parts may be aggravated by misalignment. Finally, we talk about some of the spiritual elements of menstrual regularity, and the ways that being misaligned be emotionally and spiritually damaging for a woman. We talk about the affects of birth control on uterine flow and discuss the considerations involved. What can *really* change your reproductive life? Two things we talk about in today's episode of Hormonally Speaking. I absolutely loved having this conversation with Ashley Marie, who is a licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist specializing in Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy. And if you've never heard of Maya Abdominal Therapy, you are about to learn something EVERY woman should know about. You probably know by now that I'm into doing just about anything to help women with their fibroids, and this is one technique that can help tremendously. It also supports every part of your reproductive health, and can be particularly helpful with bringing back periods, easing period pain, and normalizing your cycle. We also dive into the other arena I want every woman to be educated on - FAM (Fertility Awareness Method). As Ashley mentions, it's 99.4% effective when done correctly. And even beyond fertility or birth control, FAM does SO much to connect you to your body and overall health. I wish I would've known about it as a teen, which Ashley and I also talk about. Being empowered with FAM at a younger age could help with so many issues that come up around sex and body autonomy. Ashley Marie is a Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist specializing in Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy and Intuitive Bodywork. After suffering from irregular and painful menstrual cycles for most of her life and getting no help in understanding them from her medical providers, she decided to trust that the healing was in her own hands. With a combination of herbs, massage and dietary changes she now has a regular, pain free cycle that she looks forward to each month. She is passionate about creating a space for women to transform their menstrual realities with womb work, reproductive health education and practical self~care rituals. She lives in an forested community in the Mountains near Asheville, NC with her husband and 4 children. Follow Ashley on IG at https://www.instagram.com/rooted.feminine/.

In this episode, Sheila speaks to Dr. Suzanne Schiller, a Holistic Chiropractor who specializes in women’s wellness and uses a method called Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, or ATMAT. ATMAT is founded on ancient Mayan techniques of abdominal massage, which increases circulation of blood, lymph, nerve, hormone and energy within your belly, whole body and energy system. It also teaches you daily self-care tools so you can stay healthy and vital. As a life-long investigator, Suzanne has explored meditation practices since the age of 5, spent decades honing her intuition by reading energy patterns in herself and others, and adventured deep into healing frontiers of movement, somatic arts, and ritual. She is a true holistic energy healer and this extremely powerful therapy is only one of the healing methods Suzanne uses in her practice. Dr. Rosita Arvigo-- famed ethnobotanist, spiritual healer, shaman, and author-- will share about the Macal river which was the life-blood of an ancient Mayan civilization and is still important to the people there today. The Macal River flows through the Cayo District in western Belize and eventually into the Belize River. Sites along the river include the ancient Mayan town of Cahal Pech and the Belize Botanic Gardens. The river is a meandering waterway flowing through rugged mountains and countless ancient archaeological sites. It was one of the ancient Maya’s superhighways, linking urban, trade, and ceremonial centers and connecting the interior to the coastal trade routes. After linking up with the Mopan at Branch Mouth, it joins the Old Belize River to carry on down to the coast. For centuries it was a vital part of the Maya Empire and an important source of water, transport, communication, trade, food, hygiene, and recreation for the Maya.Rosita Arvigo is a Doctor of Naprapathy, ethnobotanist, spiritual healer, author of six books on traditional healing of Central America, co-founder of The Belize Ethnobotany Project with Dr. Michael Balick of the New York Botanical Garden , and an international speaker. She is the founder of Ix Chel Tropical Research Centre in Belize, the Rainforest Medicine Trail, the Terra Nova Medicinal Plant Reserve, and the children’s Bush Medicine Summer Camp in Belize. Our guest today is my dear friend, Jen Poll. Jen is a Licensed Massage Therapist in St. Petersburg, Florida. We have a great talk with Jen on the techniques of vaginal steams, abdominal massage, and her inspiration from teachings of Don Elijio Panti and Rosita Arvigo. Steaming and Abdominal Massage can be a great way for women to maintain and achieve uterine health, to reconnect with their own body and reclaim any power they may have previously surrendered. We cover what a vaginal steam is, and why a woman may want to steam her lady parts. The massage and steam can be as ritualized as you want or can be a scheduled simple self-care technique. We also cover what to expect during the process and situations where you may want to wait before jumping in. https://www.ladypotions.com/episode13
