Ron and Andrea know nothing about food, how it's prepared or where it comes from. So naturally, they started a Podcast about restaurants in and around Philly. Since they don't know anything about food, they also talk about their relationship... which is sometimes awkward.
Ron and Andrea return to talk about the small plates and snacks they enjoyed at Wm. Mulherin's Sons. They also visit La Cucina Ristorante for Valentine's Day. They discuss the possibility of their new cat getting an abortion, the recent loss of their well-loved and greatly missed sound engineer, and someone is getting maternity pants... lots has happened since the last podcast!
Ron and Andrea complain about the very un-fun diet they are on. Things get moderately uncomfortable when Andrea vents about all the cooking and cleaning and laundry she handles while insisting Ron doesn't pull his weight. Ron reconsiders their future together. Andrea also gets fired up about all of the recent harassment allegations coming out in the media. Oh and they mention food at a restaurant.
We're back! After a very long break, Ron and Andrea return with their final episode in the Summer Lovin' series and both agree on their favorite summer of 2017 restaurant at The Shore. They discuss their night out to Townsend and why it's important to be selective about where you get your pork belly from. Andrea talks about making a 10 year old's dream come true (her own dream so not really that altruistic). The couple also describes how they've permanently immortalized their love.
Ron and Andrea returned to Cafe Loren in Avalon where Ron sadly discovers the lamb he's been waiting for all summer has been removed from the menu. Ron and Andrea also return to their favorite restaurant, Laurel, and talk debate their level of creepiness as patrons. They discuss some winery names that are not quite offensive enough to be ruled out as actual vineyards. Finally Ron shares his brilliant (not really) idea for a men's underwear company.
After a two week hiatus (did you miss us?? Don’t answer that!), Ron and Andrea share their experiences from Scottsdale. They enjoyed excellent food on par with some of Philly’s best restaurants and found the world’s greatest server (spoiler alert: it’s Sean at elements). Things got pretty hot and heavy in the Arizona desert with some rather unique experimentation prompted by the more perverted half of the couple. It’s why this episode is rated “NFA” – No Family Allowed!
This week is a three-fer during the Summer Lovin’ series as Ron and Andrea explore a few restaurants sprinkled throughout South Jersey. They started at Cooper House in Pennsauken where they had a fantastic buffalo cauliflower appetizer but can’t seem to agree as to whether the desserts were any good. They then headed down to Cape May for an impressive dinner at Black Duck despite the douchebags at the table next to theirs. Finally, they wrap up the weekend at Ron’s favorite summertime spot, Baia in Somers Point where they were both pleasantly surprised by the food. Andrea also regrets her decision to drink from a bag of wine all day while on a boat and pays the price with a hangover while podcasting.
This episode is chock full of places to hit up in Sea Isle and Stone Harbor. Ron ditched Andrea this past week to hang out in Sea Isle for his stay-cation. On a few select nights, he allowed her to visit for dinner at Chill and A Modo Mio. Ron also talks about Carmen's and Harbor Burger Bar. They also stumble upon a local food hall in Linwood that just opened called The Exchange. They argue over who is more qualified to hand out pointers to golfers regarding their swing and Ron's true feelings about Andrea's weight come out!
Ron and Andrea head to University City to try out Marigold Kitchen's ten-course tasting menu. They enjoyed the unique twists on some summertime classics including barbecue chicken and a s'more milkshake. Ron reviews the questionable accommodations he had in the Lehigh Valley area. Was it a hotel? Was it a halfway house? Who knows?? Andrea also shares a tip for lady golfers in the South Jersey area looking for a good deal! Fun fan fact: Ron and Andrea had an argument right before they recorded this podcast - notice how dull the first five minutes are and how lacking it is in chemistry. Fortunately, they were able to put their differences aside for the sake of their 10 listeners!
Three restaurants and not a one in Philly! Ron and Andrea hang out in Stone Harbor, Cape May and Vineland for the weekend. Andrea’s brain shuts off prior to dinner in Cape May and earns Ron a parking ticket. In retribution, Ron berates Andrea for her post dinner consumption habits at a local art gallery in Stone Harbor. Ron gets confused by what the website Eater is used for so Andrea tries to clear it up and in the process comes up with a much dirtier version of it. Bonus feature: Hear Andrea’s truly awful attempt at a Boston accent (the city has likely banned her from returning because of it) as she talks about the wicked awesome community garden at Fenway.
Our Summer Lovin' series continues as we spend all weekend at the Shore. Andrea is pleasantly surprised by the awesome tasting and looking food at O'Donnell's Pour House in Sea Isle City. Then the duo heads to Ocean City the following night for Ron's favorite pizza and he talks about the life changing dessert he found. (You'll be disappointed once you find out what it is.) They also discuss the worst part about Andrea's three day fast (and no, it wasn't the not eating part) and kick around some Beatles and Pulp Fiction trivia.
Andrea and Ron talk about helm's quirky and casual atmosphere as well as the creative and rustic dishes. Andrea sees the coolest looking mushroom she's ever seen. They also head to Bella Luna in Sea Isle City where Ron undergoes tense negotiations with Andrea regarding dessert. They also struggle with the meaning of the word confit and are stumped trying to figure out what a sheriff does.
Our Summer Lovin' series gets kicked off this weekend at Mildred's in Stathmere. Ron and Andrea find out what the perfect side is to go with manicotti. They also head to two Ocean City favorites. The Red Raider combo at Varsity Inn was perfect for the weekend's chilly weather. And thankfully, the Hobby Horse Ice Cream Parlor is serving up dessert until midnight on the weekend. Sadly, Ron and Andrea discover their biggest fan is not much of a fan at all.
Ron and Andrea venture into the world of veganism at Vedge but not without pre-gaming at Garces Trading Company for some charcuterie and chicken liver mousse. They also stumble upon a hip little bar and lounge called Writers Block Rehab. Midweek, they stopped into Positano Coast and not only enjoyed the Mediterranean style seafood, but raved about the beautiful and romantic space. They discuss Ron's fashion choice for the podcast, Andrea's ridiculously particular match.com profile, and determine when Scooby Doo jumped the shark. It's a long one but all the funny stuff is at the end so settle in for the night.
Ron and Andrea find a gem of a gastropub in Vineland NJ of all places and talk about which dish they can't wait to have again. Ron also detours to central Jersey for some custom fried dough at Duck Donuts. Their family dinner conversation for Mother's Day includes Jesus, Winston Churchill, veganism, and illegal abortions. So you know, pretty typical for holiday dinners.
We finally got back to our favorite restaurant, Laurel! It was tres tres wonderful. This meal surprised Andrea and Ron with unexpected guests, Andrew Jackson trivia, and seemingly endless desserts. Andrea admits to hygiene not being a priority for her and Ron reveals who his favorite neighbor would be come football season. Was this better than their last visit to Laurel? There is literally only one way to find out and yes, it was. Darn it - now you don't have to listen to the podcast. But you should anyway to find out what happens when Andrea is presented with two gummy bears.
Bonus Episode? That's right. We're already doing a Bonus Episode. Yeah it's a little cheeky to do a bonus episode this early but you'll thank us for it! Ron and Andrea head to Atlantic City again despite the bad luck they had there last time (see episode 4 - yikes!). But they realize the best restaurants there aren't at the Quarter. The Palm? You're either 80 years old or trying to impress someone with how much you can spend on a steak. And Carmine's? It's pasta, garlic bread, and Chianti. You can do better. They hit up Jose Garces'.... Jose Garces's.... the newest restaurants in AC from Jose Garces (nailed it!). From the Tokyo underground to an Ecuadorian village (Andrea describes it as Cuban because she's a dolt), they implore others to check out these gems in the Tropicana.
Ron and Andrea get swanky at a gala this weekend and rate the venue, food, and service. One is the clear winner! They loved the rooftop bar at the Logan Hotel despite not actually getting a drink. But the lobby bar delivers on food, drinks and service! At brunch, they both fell in love with the space at Urban Farmer and the house made sausage and English muffin don't disappoint. Andrea shares her nightmare about Ron and then Ron shares a few nightmare terms Andrea is thankfully not familiar with. Andrea was able to track down the awesome opener from Mike Birbiglia's show at Helium.. It's Chris Laker and coincidentally Ron finds out Chris Laker owns the domain name Ron has had his eye on.
Ron and Andrea had some catching up to do as they discussed the Aimee Mann concert at the Keswick Theater and all the yummy food at Keswick Tavern. And get this... they actually talk about the food in detail this time! Plus Andrea comes up with a great marketing idea for craft beer that is instantly rejected by Ron. Andrea went solo to Helium and says it's the best show she's been to in awhile. At a lunch stop at Davio's Galleria in KOP this week, Andrea figured out the key ingredient needed for a kale and quinoa salad. And two local places they don't even want to mention the names of because the food was so disappointing! Plus the Board Room at TD Garden in Boston - how did that end up on Eating Out Philly? Oh and they loved Aimee Mann's opening act, Jonathan Coulton! solidstate.jonathancoulton.com
Wait, what? The Borgata is not in Philly. This is an outrage! However Ron made it to Northern Liberties for dinner at Jerry's Bar and a show at the Fillmore. Also, Gary Gulman was hilarious as always but was he as funny as the last time they saw him in Philly? Also Andrea blacked out so Ron helps fill in the fuzzy details.
Ron and Andrea head to Parc midweek for a birthday celebration. A family fave, they've been here multiple times - did this visit stack up against the rest? Also they hit a local Italian BYOB called Vincenzo's Ristorante where Andrea managed to flood the restaurant (not really but she did leave a mess).
Our second visit to Vernick and did we like it more or less than last time? Ron reveals why next time he will not be getting the toasts that they are so well known for. And why did Andrea feel bullied into getting the chicken? She's now a die hard Sixers fan too! Are her reasons justified?
Check out our first episode and hear what we think of Double Knot and where we love to eat when we go see the Flyers. Ron and Andrea discuss whether or not it is possible to not over order at Double Knot. And we figure out why kids are loving that place! Locally, we enjoyed some "lite fare" (no not really) at the Anchorage Tavern.
