Blake rested his hand on his service revolver, weighing the morality of gunning Boone down on the courthouse steps, when he heard the news. Boone didn't have the cash. He possessed neither valuables sufficient to pawn nor property to offer a money lender. By the end of the day, during which he had performed some truly fantastic work, Mr. Bishop began questioning whether he would ever receive payment. Consequently, the other side of the judge's punishment fell upon Boone. He would serve a month on a chain gang, performing hard labour for the city of Victoria. His wages would be offset against the debts owed to the Adelphi Saloon and Mr. Bishop.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast.

Paula Helm articulates an AI vision that goes beyond base performance to include epistemic justice and cultural diversity by focusing on speakers and not language alone. Paula and Kimberly discuss ethics as a science; language as a core element of culture; going beyond superficial diversity; epistemic justice and valuing other's knowledge; the translation fallacy; indigenous languages as oral goods; centering speakers and communities; linguistic autonomy and economic participation; the Māori view on data ownership; the role of data subjects; enabling cultural understanding, self-determination and expression; the limits of synthetic data; ethical issues as power asymmetries; and reflecting on what AI mirrors back to us. Paula Helm is an Assistant Professor of Empirical Ethics and Data Science at the University of Amsterdam. Her work sits at the intersection of STS, Media Studies and Ethics. A raw, no-fluff review of The Two Towers — the darker, tighter middle act of LOTR. I cover the split structure, why Book III feels punchier (Helm's Deep, Ents), why Book IV slows to a crawl before the Shelob crescendo, and how pain trains the will through Frodo's burden and Sam's rise. I read this over a couple of months and felt the weight, the world-building, and the payoff.Spoilers ahead: Gandalf's return, the march to war, Frodo/Sam/Gollum through the marshes, and that spider. If you value integrity, patience and quiet courage, this one hits deep. If you've read it, tell me your favourite moment (Helm's Deep or Shelob?). Professor Sir Dieter Helm's recent paper - The future of British farming - has received applause and consternation on social media. For Helm, British farming stands on the brink of its most profound transformation "since the coming of tractors and fertilisers" - but the vision he sets out is disturbing. The paper describes the technical and financial forces shaping modern agriculture, while treating regenerative farming with a sceptic's eye. Is Helm right? Is data-enabled precision ag, AI and vertical farming the future? Should the polluter pay? Is regen poorly defined and glyphosate dependent? And - what does all this mean for the family farm?ffinlo Costain meets Professor Sir Dieter Helm alongside regenerative and organic farmer, Patrick Holden, the Chief Executive of the Sustainable Food Trust. * Farm Gate is the world's highest ranking food security podcast* More land use news at 8point9.com
Burton tried to speak, to beg for mercy, but his throat had clamped shut, parched and brittle as ancient parchment left too long in the sun. His voice only clawed its way back in a ragged, desperate croak the instant Boone pressed the knife down against the flesh of his right leg, just above the knee, and the first thin, crimson line of blood welled up, hot and sticky, tracing a lazy rivulet down the pale skin. Boone used that old Bowie for everything—carving kindling, gutting game, scraping hides—and its edge had gone so dull from endless abuse that it resembled a rusted sawblade more than a blade. He had to lean in with his full, heavy weight, all two hundred pounds of muscle and grit, to force the tip through the tough outer layer of Burton's skin, the metal grinding audibly against the resistance like a dull file on bone.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. UnHerd's Freddie Sayers talks with Professor of Economic Policy at the University of Oxford, Sir Dieter Helm, about the great climate "self-delusion." As global leaders, royals, and celebrities jet into Rio for the 30th UN Climate Summit (COP 30), Helm - one of the world's most respected climate economists - argues the entire Net Zero project, championed by the very elites at the summit, is built on smoke and mirrors, and reveals: why 30 years of COPs have been ineffective; the core deceit politicians have been telling the public for decades; how the West's green policies are actually helping China while leading to our own self-sabotage; and why the UK's "clean energy" dream is a fantasy that is leading to economic ruin. What is the real path forward, and is it too late to fix the mess we've made? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Was hilft?

A few of the abandoned men, their wills broken, staggered blindly after Boone and Burton once they finally realized the terrible deception. But in tragically little time, they were completely snow-blind and hopelessly lost, staggering aimlessly away from the faint path and each other as the relentless, creeping tendrils of hypothermia finally took hold of their core. Some paltry articles of their clothing would eventually be found near the trail once a spring thaw swept through the valley, but of their frozen, anonymous bodies, there was never any trace. Whether they were claimed by the brutal, indifferent cold, by a silent return of the vengeful Diggers, or by some starved, scavenging beast of the high mountains will forever remain a chilling mystery. Even their names have been tragically lost to the ravages of time, with only the vaguest, most unflattering descriptions of them surviving in the old, faded complaints filed by the victims who once sought their deaths.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast.
