A few of the abandoned men, their wills broken, staggered blindly after Boone and Burton once they finally realized the terrible deception. But in tragically little time, they were completely snow-blind and hopelessly lost, staggering aimlessly away from the faint path and each other as the relentless, creeping tendrils of hypothermia finally took hold of their core. Some paltry articles of their clothing would eventually be found near the trail once a spring thaw swept through the valley, but of their frozen, anonymous bodies, there was never any trace. Whether they were claimed by the brutal, indifferent cold, by a silent return of the vengeful Diggers, or by some starved, scavenging beast of the high mountains will forever remain a chilling mystery. Even their names have been tragically lost to the ravages of time, with only the vaguest, most unflattering descriptions of them surviving in the old, faded complaints filed by the victims who once sought their deaths.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. In this action-packed episode of the Elk Hunt Podcast, host [redacted for anonymity, but based on context] sits down with seasoned elk hunter Jeff Helm to recap his remarkable 2024 season, where he harvested four mature bulls across vastly different states and terrains. Jeff dives into his addiction to hunting Roosevelt elk on the rugged Oregon coast, sharing tales of navigating ancient forests, battling poison oak, and out-hunting locals. The conversation shifts to an epic backcountry Wyoming adventure with llamas, where Jeff, Mark, and Josh adapted to heavy horse hunter pressure, glassed for patterns, and called in bulls using calf sounds and strategic setups. Packed with storytelling, Jeff reveals his adaptable tactics, from spot-and-stalk in Idaho to calf calling in thick timber, emphasizing mental toughness, pre-scouting, and building hunter intuition. Whether you're a beginner or advanced hunter, this episode offers invaluable insights into consistent success on public land. This episode is brought to you by Tricer, they make gear that is Fast. For example, calf calls worked in Wyoming's backcountry, but spot-and-stalk was key in silent Idaho hunts—avoid overcomplicating with too many tools and stay flexible to turn tough situations into kills. Pre-Scouting and Observation Are Underrated Superpowers: Arrive early to drive roads, assess access, and glass elk patterns without rushing in. Jeff's Wyoming success came from watching horse hunters and elk for days to find unpressured pockets, proving that understanding where elk go (and why) often beats blind calling or chasing. Build Gut Intuition Through Experience and Mentors: Learn from consistent killers like Dan Evans by observing elk habits and avoiding common pitfalls, such as rushing bedded bulls (wait 45-60 minutes to let them settle). Mental toughness keeps you in the game—elk hunting is hard until it's not, and one right setup can change everything.

The October 21 edition of the AgNet News Hour featured Todd Snider, the newly elected president of the Kern County Farm Bureau, in a wide-ranging interview that captured the passion, perspective, and urgency driving California agriculture today. Snider, a lifelong Bakersfield resident and former national champion mountain biker, brings competitive energy to his new role. A crop insurance professional with deep roots in the community, he said his goal is to protect and promote the future of farming in one of the most productive regions in the world. “It's an honor to lead the Kern County Farm Bureau,” Snider said. “We feed the world from right here, and it's time Sacramento and Washington remember that.” Kern County is the second-largest ag-producing county in the nation, and Snider said the Farm Bureau's mission is clear — to defend agriculture against overregulation, labor challenges, and water shortages. “Farmers are producing more with less — less land, less water, more cost — and yet we're still feeding millions,” he said. “People have forgotten the labor, risk, and science it takes to grow food. We have to tell our story better.” Snider emphasized the Farm Bureau's expanding educational programs that introduce local schoolchildren to farming through Farm Days and FFA partnerships. “Kids think food comes from a grocery store,” he said. “When they visit the farm, they realize agriculture isn't just tractors and dirt — it's drones, computers, and science.” He also highlighted opportunities in modern ag careers, from data technology to accounting. “You don't have to have dirty boots to be in agriculture,” he said. On policy, Snider was blunt about Proposition 50, warning it would “destroy rural representation” by allowing redistricting power to shift to political insiders. “Voters need to do their research,” he said. “If this passes, rural California will lose its voice — and that's devastating for agriculture.” He also spoke passionately about California's water crisis, calling it “a man-made problem.” “Growers pay for 100% of their water and only get 50%,” he said. “Then in wet years, they're asked to buy the rest at a premium. Imagine what this valley would look like if we actually delivered 100% of what farmers are already paying for.” The result, he said, is 27,000 acres of almonds and grapes now fallowed in Kern County alone. “Water means jobs,” he warned. “Without it, our communities will shrink, our schools will suffer, and our economy will collapse.” Despite the challenges, Snider expressed optimism and pride in the resilience of California's farmers. “We've weathered droughts, recessions, and regulations,” he said. “Farmers are problem-solvers — we'll find a way forward, but we need leaders who understand agriculture, not just politics.” The interview closed with Snider's call for unity across county lines: “We don't just want Kern County to succeed — we want Tulare, Fresno, and the entire Central Valley to thrive. When one of us grows stronger, all of California agriculture does.”

When the sun finally rose, he methodically availed himself of the dead's belongings, precisely as he always did, but for the first time, he could not bring himself to look directly at the body. Usually, he felt absolutely no sting of remorse or burning shame—he had successfully convinced himself that he was entirely immune to such weak human frailties—but now, a strange, heavy guilt sat like a cold stone deep in his gut. He had obscenely gorged himself in a terrifying, unholy communion that had lasted throughout the entire night, returning over and over to tear more flesh from the cooling corpse and fully sate his insatiable hunger. He had eaten until he was bloated, profoundly sickened, and deeply ashamed.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. LAS VEGAS -- — The Tennessee Titans opened the season with four consecutive losses and were staring directly at a fifth last weekend before they rallied to beat Arizona. Which puts them in the unusual situation of trying to win back-to-back games. Should the Titans beat the Raiders on Sunday, that would be the first time they have posted consecutive victories since Nov. 17, 2022, when they beat Green Bay after topping Denver five days earlier. “Hey, it has been a long time, and this is our opportunity to do it,” tight end Chig Okonkwo said. “Like we say over here, winning cures everything. So the vibe is high. So now we can just keep this momentum going forward and take it to Vegas.” The Raiders have their own concerns heading into this matchup of 1-4 teams. They opened their season with an encouraging victory at New England, with optimism abounding that the franchise might be turning the corner under first-year coach Pete Carroll. Las Vegas hasn't won since. Quarterback Geno Smith has borne much of the blame for the slow start. He has thrown a league-high nine interceptions. “Six of the interceptions this year were tipped in the air. Johnny-on-the-spot defensive guy,” Smith said. "Am I going to look at that and say, ‘Well, don't throw it to the guy who we're supposed to throw it to?' I'm going to throw it to the guy I'm supposed to, and at times, things happen. "People get caught up in results, and they want to look at statistics and try to place blame because that's just how life goes when you're in the position I'm in. But I'm a lot smarter than that and I'm aware of the process. I know exactly what I'm doing out there.” Maybe the Raiders will find the winning formula similar to what the Titans discovered against the Cardinals. Tennessee came back from down 21-6 in the fourth quarter to win 22-21. “It looked like they were dead and gone,” Carroll said. “They just kept battling and hanging in there, and they really made a bunch of plays to make it happen. They earned every bit of it.” Target the tight ends Rookie quarterback Cam Ward finding tight ends Okonkwo and rookie Gunnar Helm helped the Titans' offense kick into gear during their comeback in Arizona. Ward targeted the tight ends 10 times for a combined eight catches for 82 yards. Helm had one catch for 3 yards by halftime with Okonkwo shut out. “I haven't given them enough chances this year, which I did this past week, and they saw what they can do, especially after the run, getting us those (yards after the catch),” Ward said of his tight ends. “So we got a very talented group of tight ends, but we just got to continue to feed them, continue to get them more involved, and it's going to continue to help us.” Okonkwo said he and Helm have been like a “safety blanket” with what they can do, especially after the catch. “Me and Gunnar complement each other in the ways that we play, so I'm glad that they're seeing that,” he said. Back in the lineup Michael Mayer is back in the lineup after missing two games with concussion symptoms, and the Raiders need him. Fellow tight end Brock Bowers is still contending with a knee injury that has dogged him nearly all season. Mayer said he's ready to be the No. 1 tight end if called upon. “I'm definitely going into the game thinking that for sure,” Mayer said. “I'm going to prep for it, study for it. The decision's ultimately not mine, but I'm going to be ready for it.” Healing up The Titans have tried protect Ward without starting right tackle JC Latham during the past four games. Off The Bench is back weekdays from 10a to 11a followed by The Stone Shields Show from 11a to noon! In a stunning intra-division swap, the Cincinnati Bengals acquired veteran quarterback Joe Flacco from the Cleveland Browns on October 7, 2025—the first trade between the AFC North rivals since the Browns' 1999 return. The deal cost Cincinnati a 2026 fifth-round pick, while netting them Flacco and a 2026 sixth-rounder from Detroit. This move comes amid a quarterback quandary: franchise star Joe Burrow has been sidelined since Week 2 with turf toe, projected to miss at least eight weeks, leaving the Bengals (2-3) mired in a three-game skid. Backup Jake Browning's tenure has been disastrous, with eight interceptions against six touchdowns, tanking an offense that ranks last in yards (228.6 per game) and fourth-worst in scoring (17.0 points). Weapons like Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have been neutralized, as Browning's 64.5% completion rate and turnover woes have stifled Cincinnati's explosiveness. Coach Zac Taylor, noncommittal post a 37-24 loss to Detroit, signaled urgency ahead of Thursday's clash with Pittsburgh. Flacco, 40 and an 18-year vet, steps in as the presumptive starter, released backups Brett Rypien and Mike White to clear space. Why Flacco? His 2023 Comeback Player of the Year magic—leading the Browns to the playoffs—lingers, despite a rocky 2025 (1-3, 58.1% completion, 815 yards, 2 TDs, 6 INTs). Benchings for rookie Dillon Gabriel made him expendable in Cleveland, where Deshaun Watson's Achilles recovery looms. Flacco's AFC North savvy shines: 11 career wins over the Steelers, a Week 3 Browns victory versus Green Bay (Cincinnati's Week 6 foe). His under-center snaps could revive play-action, contrasting Taylor's shotgun-heavy scheme tailored for Burrow. Skeptics question Flacco's arm fading, but at a bargain price, it's low-risk salvation. A 5-4 stretch under Flacco could position the Bengals at 7-7 for Burrow's potential December return, vaulting them into the playoff mix in a muddled division (Steelers lead at 3-1). Chase tweeted excitement: "Old heads know how to win." If Flacco channels his Super Bowl grit, this trade could rewrite Cincinnati's season from farce to redemption. Otherwise, it's another Bengals heartbreak in a rivalry-rich North. Packers vs. Bengals: Week 6 PreviewThe Green Bay Packers (2-1-1) host the reeling Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) at Lambeau Field on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS). Coming off a Week 5 bye, Green Bay enters as a 14.5-point favorite, with the total at 46.5. azcentral.com This Lambeau clash pits a rested Packers squad against a Bengals team desperate for stability after Joe Burrow's season-ending Grade 3 turf toe surgery. espn.com Key Storylines: Cincinnati's offense has cratered without Burrow, ranking last in success rate (36.1%) and allowing the third-most passing yards (1,295). sharpfootballanalysis.com Veteran Joe Flacco, acquired midweek from Cleveland, makes his Bengals debut, but faces a Packers secondary yielding just 205.8 passing yards per game (11th-fewest). bengals.com Green Bay's Jordan Love, fresh off torching Dallas for 319 yards in a 40-40 tie, should exploit Cincy's porous pass defense (27th in pressure rate). si.com RB Josh Jacobs (76.4 PFF grade) bolsters the run game, while rookie WR Matthew Golden adds explosiveness. bengals.com Bengals WRs Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins could test CB Nate Hobbs (concussion protocol, limited). acmepackingcompany.com Injuries: Bengals are decimated—Burrow out three months, S Geno Stone (calf on IR), G Cordell Volson (shoulder IR). espn.com Packers: DT Devonte Wyatt (knee DNP), OT Anthony Belton (ankle DNP), G Aaron Banks (groin doubtful), TE Tucker Kraft (questionable), T Zach Tom (questionable). packers.com WR Jayden Reed remains on IR (foot/collarbone). POSTGAME: TITANS Defeat CARDINALS 22-21....in an INCREDIBLE ComeBack Victory!! GLENDALE, AZ ― Well, how about that: The Tennessee Titans won a football game. They put their 10-game losing streak to bed with a 22-21 comeback versus the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on Oct. 5, getting coach Brian Callahan and quarterback Cam Ward their first win as a tandem. The Titans (1-4) trailed by 15 points for most of the game and looked poised to go down three scores in the fourth quarter on a long Arizona run, but a mental mistake turned what should've been six Arizona points into Titans football. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward responded with a scoring drive. Then the Titans defense forced a quick stop. Then the Titans scored a touchdown on a play that started with a Cardinals interception. Suddenly the score was 21-19 with a little under five minutes to play, and the Titans needing a stop to finish the comeback. Arizona drained some clock, but the defense came up with its stop, getting the ball back to the offense with 1:53 left and no timeouts from the Titans' own 18-yard line. After a couple quick completions, Ward found tight end Chig Okonkwo for 16 yards to get the team near midfield and then a 38-yard dagger to receiver Calvin Ridley to get the Titans well into kicker Joey Slye's range. Slye connected on a 29-yard field goal to win the game. Looking for a free mini puzzle? Play the USA TODAY Quick Cross now. What the heck happened there? Ward nearly threw the game away. At the 4:53 mark in the fourth quarter, Ward dropped back on a third-and-2 from the Cardinals' 20-yard line trailing by nine points. An incompletion wouldn't have been the worst thing; the Titans could've easily kicked a field goal from there and made it a one-score game. But Ward forced a pass to Ridley into a tight window and was intercepted by safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, seemingly ending the Titans' threat. Not so fast. Taylor-Demerson went to the ground untouched after the interception and couldn't keep control of the football. Madness ensued. Several Cardinals tripped and kicked the ball backward trying to recover the fumble. Titans receiver Tyler Lockett squeezed ahead and landed on the ball in the end zone. Touchdown, Lockett's first as a Titan. Cam Ward stats: One gutsy quarter Ward was erratic, late on several throws and couldn't find any rhythm on deep shots. He only completed 5 of his 16 attempts in the first half, finishing with just 58 passing yards. Factor in sacks, and the Titans only netted 42 yards through the air before halftime, with the offense stalling across midfield three times. Get the 4th and Monday newsletter in your inbox. Expert guide of the week's NFL action, game results and must-see moments. Delivery: Mon Your Email For a brief moment in the fourth quarter, Ward showed signs of life. With the Titans trailing 21-6, Ward orchestrated a six-play, 80-yard drive headlined by a 47-yard deep crosser to Ridley that got the Titans into the red zone for the first time in eight quarters and a 19-yard rainbow to tight end Gunnar Helm perfectly lofted over Helm's outside shoulder that set up a 1-yard Tony Pollard touchdown. Ward finished the day 21-for-39 with 265 yards and an interception. Ridley caught five passes for 131 yards. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In 1994 she left corporate sales and moved from KY to Wisconsin to start two small businesses with her husband—a retail store and a construction company. They did both for about 10 years and then decided to join efforts and focus on the retail store. They have expanded 3 times and today have a 5000 square foot store in a refurbished barn (parts are new) and a 3000 sq. foot design center next door in an old granary building. Polly and her husband have survived the challenges of 2008, the pandemic, and even a six-month highway closure. They also raised their two daughters in the business. In 2017, their oldest daughter Ellie was tragically killed in an ATV accident. She fought him off when she could, her arms straining against his weight, her breath hitching as she prayed for him to collapse into a drunken stupor. On good nights, he'd pass out mid-act, his body slumping onto her like a felled oak, his breath hot and sour against her neck. She would shove him aside, her muscles trembling, and crawl to the edge of the bed, curling into herself to escape the memory of his touch.
