Business and finance news from the Asia-Pacific. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh vowed to restore price stability following his first policy meeting since taking the helm of the US central bank, after officials left interest rates unchanged and signaled growing support for rate hikes this year. "Persistently high prices are a burden for the American people, but the recent past need not be prologue," Warsh said in his debut press conference as chairman. Officials "are unambiguous and unanimous. This committee will deliver price stability." At the same time Warsh played down somewhat the projections from his colleagues showing nine officials foresee at least one quarter-point hike this year, with six anticipating at least two. Another nine expected no move or a cut. We speak to Jeffrey Roach, Chief Economist for LPL Financial.. At Ghislaine Maxwell's sentencing in June 2022, survivors delivered powerful and emotional victim impact statements that left no doubt about the damage she had inflicted. One woman stated plainly, “I never would have met Jeffrey Epstein if not for you,” holding Maxwell personally responsible for the years of abuse that followed. Another described her as a “monster,” recounting how Maxwell's grooming, manipulation, and betrayal left her permanently scarred. The survivors spoke about shattered lives, ruined trust, and emotional damage that will never fully heal. Maxwell wasn't a passive bystander—she was the architect of their exploitation, intimately involved in luring and preparing underage girls for sexual abuse under the guise of mentorship and opportunity.Anyone attempting to refurbish Maxwell's image would do well to stop and truly absorb what she did—and who she did it to. These weren't abstract victims or peripheral crimes. They were calculated acts committed against vulnerable girls, many of whom were already struggling. Maxwell used charm, privilege, and social power as tools of entrapment, playing the role of the "trusted woman" to disarm and deliver victims to a predator. According to her account, she was approached by Maxwell with what appeared to be a professional opportunity—an interview for a position as a massage therapist for a wealthy couple. Helm, then a young woman aspiring to build a career, accepted the invitation and traveled to Epstein's Manhattan townhouse. Once there, she says the situation quickly turned predatory. Maxwell introduced her to Epstein, and what had been framed as a job interview devolved into a sexual assault. Helm described being manipulated by both Epstein and Maxwell, who she says worked together to lure in and exploit vulnerable young women under the pretense of employment.Since coming forward, Helm has emerged as a vocal advocate for survivors and a critic of how authorities handled the Epstein case. She has called for the full release of government records and files tied to Epstein's criminal operation, arguing that these documents hold the key to understanding the full scope of the abuse and those complicit in it. Helm has also been outspoken in her belief that the issue should not be reduced to political point-scoring or media spectacle; instead, it should remain focused on justice and transparency for victims.
