Stāsta mākslas vēsturniece, Latvijas Nacionālā mākslas muzeja izstāžu kuratore Baiba Vanaga; pārraides producente – Inta Zēgnere 1943. gadā, rakstot par gleznotājas Noras Drapčes (1886–1968) personālizstādi Tēlotājas mākslas kooperatīva izstāžu salonā Rīgā, mākslas kritiķis un gleznotājs Oļģerts Saldavs norādījis, ka "Drapče starp latviešu māksliniecēm ir labākā žanriste". Jāatzīst gan, ka latviešu autoriem nereti bija raksturīgi neskatīt visu Latvijas mākslas ainu kopumā, ignorējot citu tautību māksliniekus. Kā zināms, starpkaru laikā vietējās mākslas izstādēs piedalījās gan tāda izcila gleznotāja kā Aleksandra Beļcova, gan arī vairākas vācu mākslinieces, tomēr kritiķim svarīgi bijis izcelt tieši latvietību. Turklāt atbilstoši Noras vēlākā kolēģa, Liepājas pilsētas muzeja direktora Jāņa Sudmaļa vēstītajam, viņas "tēvs bijis latvietis, izglītots cilvēks, rakstījis presē pat filozofiskus apcerējumus, bet māte – vāciete, ģimenes valoda bijusi vācu valoda. Tomēr N. Drapče sevi uzskatījusi par latvieti un uzturējusi ar latviešu sabiedrību ciešus sakarus". Gleznotāja dzimusi Jersikā ķīmiska uzņēmuma vadītāja un līdzīpašnieka Augusta Drapčes un viņa sievas Augustes (dzim. Gērcas) ģimenē. Noras bērnība pagāja Latgales laukos netālu no Līksnas, tāpēc viņa dažkārt dēvēta par pirmo latviešu sievieti gleznotāju no Latgales. Vēlāk Drapču ģimene pārcēlās uz Koknesi, bet Pirmā pasaules kara laikā tēva uzņēmums izputēja. 1910. gadā Nora absolvēja Rīgas pilsētas mākslas skolu, kur mācījās Jaņa Rozentāla vadītajā figurālās glezniecības klasē. Māksliniece Rozentālu atzinusi par nozīmīgāko no saviem skolotājiem, savukārt mākslas vēsturnieks Jānis Siliņš atzīmējis, ka "Rozentāls turējis Drapči par sava kursa labāko skolnieci". 1923. gadā, vēloties turpināt mākslas studijas "slavenāko Berlīnes un Parīzes glezniecības meistaru darbnīcās", Nora pieteicās Kultūras fonda stipendijai un saņēma nepilnu pusi no lūgtās summas – 40 000 rubļu (800 latu). Tādējādi viņa bija pirmā vizuālajā mākslā strādājošā sieviete, kura saņēma Kultūras fonda finansējumu ārzemju komandējumam. Ar stipendijas atbalstu Nora divus mēnešus pavadīja Vācijā un Austrijā, sava pirmā ārzemju ceļojuma laikā gan izbaudot vēsturisko mākslu muzeju ekspozīcijās, gan skatot jaunākās mākslas izstādes, gan arī gleznojot. Regulāru dalību Latvijas mākslas dzīvē Nora uzsāka 1913. gada pavasarī, kad pirmo reizi piedalījās Baltijas mākslinieku savienības izstādē Rīgā. Kopš 1920. gada viņa izstādījās Neatkarīgo mākslinieku vienības skatēs, pirmajos piecos šīs organizācijas darbības gados paliekot vienīgajai dalībniecei sievietei. Vēlāk vienības izstādēs piedalījās arvien vairāk mākslinieču, viņu vidū arī Hilda Vīka, Emīlija Gruzīte, Emma Baltmane, Marta Evane un Marija Dorē-Virsa. Šajā laikā Nora izstādījās arī daudzās citās vietējās mākslas skatēs, bet 1943. gadā sarīkoja savu pirmo personālizstādi, kas vispirms tika parādīta Liepājas pilsētas muzejā un pēc tam aizceļoja uz Rīgu. Lai gan Norai bija latviešu un vācu saknes, tomēr viņas mākslas darbos dominēja latviskas tēmas – vienkāršo Latgales ļaužu portretējumi, lauku darbu un reliģisku ainu attēlojumi, sievietes latviešu tautastērpos, mazpilsētu skati u. tml. Viens no košākajiem darbiem ir latgaliešu pāra portrets "Sveču diena Latgalē", kas 1923. gada rudenī bija eksponēts Neatkarīgo mākslinieku vienības izstādē. Triepienā ekspresīvāka ir Noras kompozīcija "Dārzā" (1923), kur vairākas sievietes attēlotas pieliekušās, ravējot sakņu dārzu. Šis ir viens no darbiem, ko savai kolekcijai tieši no izstādes iegādājās Valsts mākslas muzejs (tagad Latvijas Nacionālais mākslas muzejs). Savukārt gleznā "Ziema", kas 1935. gadā bija skatāma Kultūras fonda II mākslas izstādē, Nora attēlojusi sniegotu lauku mājas pagalmu ar zemnieku pāri, zirgu un suni. Kā noskaidroju, pētot mākslinieces biogrāfiju kolektīvajai monogrāfijai "Perspektīvas. Sievietes Latvijas kultūrā un sabiedrībā. 1870–1940" (izdevis LU Literatūras, folkloras un mākslas institūts, 2025), starpkaru laikā Noras gleznas tikušas atzinīgi vērtētas. Viens no viņas darbiem – kompozīcija "Rucaviete" – bijis novietots sūtņu akreditēšanās telpās Rīgas pilī, un arī kritiķu atsauksmes bijušas lielākoties pozitīvas. Piemēram, rakstnieks Anšlavs Eglītis, 1932. gadā recenzējot Neatkarīgo mākslinieku vienības kārtējo skati, pat norādījis: "Šī izstāde rāda, ka grupas ievērojamākais talants ir Nora Drapče, kuras lielā kompozīcija "Svētdiena Nīcā" atstāj tālu aiz sevis visu grupas biedru gleznas." Līdzīgi viņu jau gadu iepriekš bija izcēlis arī žurnālists Alfrēds Sils, žurnāla "Zeltene" māksliniecēm veltītās sērijas rakstā vērtējot, ka Noru Drapči "patlaban varam uzskatīt par mūsu spēcīgāko un gatavāko gleznotāju-sievieti". Paralēli gleznotājas darbam Nora strādāja par zīmēšanas skolotāju – pirms Pirmā pasaules kara sieviešu komercskolā Daugavpilī un vācu proģimnāzijā Bauskā, vēlāk Ludzas latviešu ģimnāzijā. 1926. gadā viņa pārcēlās uz Liepāju, kur līdzdarbojās Lietišķās mākslas vidusskolas izveidē un mācīja zīmēšanu vairākās pilsētas skolās, bet Otrā pasaules kara laikā devās bēgļu gaitās un dzīves nogali pavadīja Amerikas Savienotajās Valstīs. Nora Drapče beigusi Vilhelma Purvīša vadīto Rīgas pilsētas mākslas skolu, tātad baudījusi līdzīgu izglītību kā vairāki plaši pazīstamie Latvijas klasiskā modernisma pārstāvji vīrieši, kā arī mērķtiecīgi un aktīvi iesaistījusies vietējā mākslas dzīvē gan kā gleznotāja, gan skolotāja, baudot arī kritiķu atzinību, tomēr mūsdienās viņas vārds un darbi zināmi vien ierobežotam mākslas profesionāļu lokam.

Tāpēc šoreiz saruna noris tur. Pārrunājam, ko pieci gadsimti mums atstāja mantojumā un kādas idejas jaunajam gadam raisa "Rīgas manifests. Tiesības uz lasīšanu". Sarunā piedalās Literatūras, folkloras un mākslas institūta vadošais pētnieks, Latvijas Universitātes Humanitāro zinātņu fakultātes prodekāns zinātnes jautājumos, izstādes autors un līdzkurators Toms Ķencis, Latvijas Nacionālās bibliotēkas vadošais pētnieks, viens no izstādes kuratoriem un autoriem Pauls Daija, kā arī Latvijas Nacionālās bibliotēkas Pētniecības un interpretācijas centra vadītāja, viena no "Rīgas manifesta Tiesības uz lasīšanu" autorēm Maija Treile.  Izstādē "Brīvība sākas ar grāmatu" līdzās grāmatniecības retumiem fonā ik palaikam dzirdami katli un ūdens šļaksti, pavāram Ērikam Dreibantam demonstrējot, kā pagatavot senā pavārgrāmatā aprakstīto vērša astes kaula zupu. Tiek lasīts alfabēts un skan dziedājums "Pilna sāp' bij' Māriņ" no albuma "Elgera dziesmas 1621". To papildina fotogrāfa Aļņa Stakles lielformāta kolāža un Lienes Pavlovskas instalācija, kas aicina vērot, klausīties, pētīt un arī baudīt. Tas viss ir stāsts par lasīšanu. "Brīvība sākas ar grāmatu" - tas ir spēcīgs izstādes nosaukuma pieteikums. "Lasīšanas vēsture tā joma, kas grāmatniecības vēsturniekiem vienlaikus pati intriģējošākā un vienlaikus pati visgrūtāk pētāmā. To stāstu ir iespējams izstāstīt dažādos veidos. Mums likās svarīgi parādīt, kā caur lasīšanu sabiedrība kļūst par nāciju, nonākt pie savas valsts. Man liekas, mēs neesam līdz galam novērtējuši, cik ļoti liela loma šajā procesā bija grāmatkultūrai un lasīšanai, " atzīs pētnieks Pauls Daija. "Tāpēc var teikt, ka šī izstāde ir par lasīšanas jaudu un lasīšanas spēku. Mēs izejam cauri dažādām lasīšanas funkcijām piecu gadsimtu garumā. Man liekas, ka tas arī ir svarīgi, ka lasīšana vēsturiski, bet īstenībā arī šodien ir vārds daudzskaitļa formā. Mēs lasām tekstus dažādi. Mēs esam lasījuši tekstus ļoti atšķirīgi un dažādi pagātnē. Te, kur mēs pašlaik stāvam, pie Aļņa  Stakles mākslas darba, mēs redzam to, kā lasīšana iegūst savu jaudu un potenciālu cilvēkiem mainīt sevi un mainīt pasauli. Ir ļoti būtiski tieši šajā izstādes sadaļā redzēt, ka lasīšana nekad nebūtu kļuvusi par tādu spēku, ja tā vienlaikus nebūtu arī bauda."

Dabas stihijas pasaulē, protams, bijušas daudz iespaidīgākas, postošākas un ar lielāku spēku, nekā tās, ko šogad piedzīvojām Latvijā, lai gan arī mūsu pārlieku slapjā vasara ir pieminēta Pasaules Meteoroloģijas organizācijas aprakstos. Šis gads iesākās ar postošiem mežu ugunsgrēkiem ASV Kalifornijas štatā. Ugunsgrēki prasīja vairāk nekā 30 cilvēku dzīvību, bet ar ugunsgrēkiem netieši saistītas vairāk nekā 400 cilvēku nāves. Līdz ar zemi nodega ne vien kvartāli, bet veselas apdzīvotas vietas. Vides organizācijas steidza ugunsgrēkos vainot klimata pārmaiņas, tomēr klimata pārmaiņas vienas pašas nespētu radīt tādu postažu. Diemžēl daļa nelaimju bija saistīta ar neapdomīgu, pat neprātīgu dabas zonu apsaimniekošanu, lielais daudzums augu nobiru un atlieku kļuva par labu degmateriālu. Vairāki ugunsgrēki bija cilvēku izraisīti, daļa ļaunprātīgi. Krietni lielāku skaitu cilvēku ietekmēja ne tik stihiska dabas parādība. Tā bija karstā vasara Eiropas Rietumu un centrālajā daļā. Tiesa ar katru gadu dažādas metodikas, kas novērtē bojā gājušo skaitu karstuma dēļ, tiek pilnveidotas un rāda arvien lielāku karstuma ietekmi. Nīderlandes un Lielbritānijas klimatologi, vides un veselības nozaru zinātnieki aplēsuši, ka karstuma viļņu dēļ šovasar Eiropā 25 tūkstoši cilvēku mira pāragri. Ne mazāki karstuma viļņi pavasarī un vasaras sākumā skāra Indiju un Paksitānu, reģionus, kur iedzīvotāju ir vēl vairāk nekā Eiropā. Tur konstatēta tikai nepilnu 500 cilvēku nāve, lai gan karstumu papildināja elpu aizcērtošs smogs un gaisa piesārņojums. Relatīvi saudzīga šogad bija Atlantijas okeāna tropisko viesuļvētru sezona. Tā ilgst no 1. jūnija līdz 30. novembrim. Kopējā ciklonu enerģija bija mazliet virs ilggadējās klimatiskās normas, bet vētru skaits – 13, kas ir par vienu mazāk nekā vidēji. Spēcīgās vētras lielākoties plosījās atklātā okeānā un to trajektorijas reti šķērsoja salas vai sasniedza Amerikas kontinetinentālos krastus. Postošākā no vētrām izrādījās pēdējā – Melisa. Tā ar augstākās, piektās, kategorijas spēku brāzmās pāri Jamaikai, kļūstot par spēcīgāko viesuļvētru, kas skārusi šo salu valsti. Laicīga prognozēšana un brīdinājumi ļāva paglābties liela upuru skaita. Vēl viens tropisko vētru reģions, kas šogad piedzīvoja spēcīgākas vētras, nekā parasti, bija Dienvidaustrumu Āzija - Filipīnas, Indonēzija, Vjetnama, Taivāna, Ķīna un citas reģiona valstis cieta gan no taifūnu vēja spēka, gan jo īpaši no intensīvām, ilgstošām lietusgāzēm, kas radīja plūdus. Decembra sākumā plūdos Indonēzijā vien bojā gāja ap tūkstoti cilvēku. Globāli 2025. gads, visticamāk, būs otrs siltākais novērojumu vēsturē, pagaidām visi dati vēl nav apkopoti, bet līdz novembrim šis gads bija 1,48 grādus siltāks par vidējo pirmsidustriālā laika temperatūru.

Kopš 1876. gada, kad telefona izgudrotājam Aleksandram Greiemam Bellam izdevās pārraidīt balsi, telefons ir daudzkārt mainījis savu dizainu, ir paplašinājušās telefona funkcijas, un telefona ietekmē mainījusies arī cilvēku uztvere par laiku un telpu. Par šo nozīmīgo tehnikas brīnumu saruna ar Latvijas Universitātes Ekonomikas un sociālo zinātņu fakultātes Komunikācijas un informācijas nodaļas profesori Vitu Zelči. Telefons 19. gadsimta otrajā pusē patiesi bija brīnums. Tobrīd cilvēki iegādājās biļetes, lai izgudrotāju vadībā vērotu tehnoloģiskos jaunumus publiskos pasākumos, un drīz vien šī tendence ienāca arī Latvijas teritorijā, toreiz gan vēl Krievijas impērijas sastāvā. 1891. gadā Rīgā bija 499 telefona abonenti, bet 1900. gadā darbojās jau 1070 telefonaparāti. Rīga bija augoša pilsēta, un telefons radīja iespēju uzņēmumiem savu darbību izplatīt pa visu tās teritoriju. Saziņa starp uzņēmuma vadību un citiem darbiniekiem varēja notikt ar telefona palīdzību. Pirmais pasaules karš saposta visu Latvijā iepriekš izveidoto telekomunikāciju infrastruktūru. Tas, ar ko pēc kara nodarbojās Latvijas valsts Pasta un Telegrāfa virsvalde, vēlāk departaments, bija telegrāfa un telefona vadu atjaunošana. Kas interesanti - ja sākotnēji telefons bija paredzēts īsām un lietišķām sarunām, tad pēc Pirmā pasaules kara telefoni iegūst citu funkciju - cilvēki nododas sadzīviskām sarunām. Papļāpā. Padomju okupācijas priekšvakarā Latvija bija 16. vietā pasaulē telefonizācijas ziņā. Telefoni bija katrā pagastā vismaz vairākiem desmitiem cilvēku, tie bija zemnieku saimniecībās, pagastvaldēs, aizsargu namos, skolās un, protams, ārstiem. Savukārt padomju gados telefonu attīstību bremzēja tehnoloģiju kopējais trūkums, jo, kā jau pēc visa, arī pēc telefona aparātiem vajadzēja stāvēt rindās, cilvēki bija spiesti kooperēties, lūgt iespēju kaimiņiem piezvanīt un lietot ielu telefonus.

El Wrexham Association Football Club, durante décadas relegado a las divisiones más humildes del fútbol inglés, vio su destino transformarse en 2021 cuando los actores de Hollywood Ryan Reynolds y Rob McElhenney tomaron las riendas del club. Desde entonces, el equipo ha ascendido desde la quinta división hasta la Championship, la segunda categoría inglesa, a solo un paso de la Premier League. Reynolds y McElhenney han cultivado un vínculo cercano con los jugadores y la afición, buscando consolidar un proyecto que, según el propio Reynolds, “respeta la historia y la identidad del club”. Hoy, ese sueño recibe un nuevo impulso con la entrada de Apollo Sports Capital, la división deportiva del fondo de private equity Apollo, que ha adquirido una participación minoritaria en el club, valorado en 415 millones de euros. Apollo, que recientemente compró al Atlético de Madrid, se incorpora a Wrexham como socio financiero estratégico, sin asumir el control mayoritario. Su inversión tendrá un impacto más allá del terreno de juego: financiará la remodelación del estadio STōK Cae Ras, incluida la nueva tribuna Kop, y respaldará el ambicioso Proyecto Wrexham Gateway, un plan de regeneración urbana que busca transformar la conectividad y la economía local.

Tuvākā vieta šādu analīžu veikšanai ir Viļņas laboratorija Lietuvā, un tagad var teikt - mamuts, kam piederējis kaula fragments, dzīvojis pirms apmēram 43 tūkstošiem gadu. Tas ir krietni senāk, nekā Aizputes muzeja darbiniekiem šķitis. Bet kas vēl interesanti - laikā, kad Aizputes apkārtnē mituši mamuti, 180 kilometru attālumā uz dienvidiem - Karaļaučos, mūsdienu Krievijas teritorijā, - bijuši iedzīvotāji. Šobrīd arheologu Mārci Kalniņu interesē, vai cilvēki šajā laikā uzturējušies arī Latvijas teritorijā.
