In this episode of the AART Podcast, host Chris Stafford sits down with renowned American digital collage artist Maggie Taylor, whose dreamlike, surreal imagery has redefined the boundaries between photography, technology, and fine art.Known for her pioneering work in digital collage, Maggie Taylor creates richly layered visual narratives that blend 19th-century photographic elements with contemporary digital tools. Her work invites viewers into imaginative, often whimsical worlds—where memory, symbolism, and storytelling converge in unexpected ways. In this intimate and insightful conversation, Maggie shares how she discovered her distinctive artistic voice, her transition from traditional photography to digital media, and how tools like Photoshop became central to her creative process.Raised in a creative environment and married to photographer Jerry Uelsmann, Maggie Taylor developed an early appreciation for photographic experimentation. Yet she forged her own path, becoming one of the most recognized figures in digital art. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major museum collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the George Eastman Museum, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. On AART, Maggie reflects on the evolution of her career, the role of intuition in her artistic decisions, and the balance between control and discovery when creating complex digital compositions. She also discusses the emotional resonance of her work, the importance of curiosity, and how artists can embrace new technologies without losing their authenticity. This episode offers a fascinating look into the mind of an artist who has quietly but profoundly influenced contemporary visual culture. Whether you're an artist, photographer, or simply someone drawn to imaginative storytelling, Maggie Taylor's journey is both inspiring and deeply thought-provoking.Maggie's links website: www.maggietaylor.com Instagram: @maggietaylor.art Some favorite women artists: Julie Blackmon, Sandy Skogland, Lori Nix, Cig Harvey, Marion Peck, Lori Vrba, Claire RosenDinner party guests: Patti Smith, Aimee Mann, Laurie Anderson, Tilda Swinton, Kara Swisher, and Eve SchoolerKeywords: Maggie Taylor, digital collage artist, American artist Maggie Taylor, surreal digital art, digital collage photography, contemporary digital artists, Photoshop art, fine art photography, AART podcast, Chris Stafford podcast, women artists interview, visual storytelling, surrealism in digital art, creative process artists, modern collage art, experimental photography, women in art podcast, artist interviews, contemporary art podcast, museum exhibited artists, digital art techniques, storytelling through images, imaginative art, photography and technology, Jerry Uelsmann influence, American contemporary artists, art podcast interviews, Women Unscripted podcast networkBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/women-unscripted--4769409/support.Host: Chris StaffordProduced by Hollowell StudiosFollow @twomenunscriptedpodcasts on InstagramOn Facebook at Women Unscripted PodcastsEmail: hollowellstudios@gmail.com

This is one of those episodes that's close to my heart. The topic is fame. Or more specifically, the complex, layered, push-and-pull desire for it. Whether you've ever longed to be "big" in your industry, or found yourself chasing followers and visibility and wondering why it never quite satisfies — or maybe you've had a client who says "I want a million followers" and you weren't sure how to support them — this episode is for you. Here's the truth: the desire for fame is not bad. But it's also not simple. And as coaches and transformational practitioners, the more we can understand what's really underneath it — for ourselves and for our clients — the more empowered we become. I share a really personal story in this episode about a night I saw Aimee Mann perform live in a converted church theater in Charlotte, and how it completely shifted the way I thought about fame, success, and what it actually means to do meaningful work in the world. And then I share the even deeper layer of that story — the part where I realized I had actually put my desire for visibility into Shadow… and what it took to finally face it. Some of what we cover in this episode: The real psychology behind the drive for fame — and why it's more complex than "ego" How the coaching industry's definition of success may be quietly shaping your goals (without your permission) What it means to discern between cultural conditioning and true desire How to help clients get honest about what they actually want — versus what they've been told to want Why "going small" can be a form of both wisdom and avoidance — and how to tell the difference Shadow and fame: what happens when we make our desire for visibility "bad" How to find the healthiest expression of fame and visibility for you — and help your clients do the same This episode is especially for you if: You've ever felt shame around wanting more visibility, a bigger audience, or a louder platform You've found yourself chasing metrics that don't actually feel aligned — but couldn't stop You have clients who are driven by fame or following and you want to support them more skillfully You've used "I'm not meant to be famous" as a convenient reason to play it safe Questions to sit with after this episode: What do I actually want — not what the industry told me to want? What is the best container for the work I love to do? Am I chasing likes and followers for the sake of validation… or is there a deeper purpose here? Am I allowing myself to dream as big as I actually desire to?     Rate, Review & Follow on Apple Podcasts If you love the show, please take a moment to rate and review — it helps more coaches and practitioners find this work and join our community. She indulges my curiosities about lyric choices and instrumental training, and I learn how much goes on behind the scenes of an Aimee Mann production. We talk about the traumas of her past, which hardships do and do not influence her work, and why there feels like a creative imperative to turn pain into art. On this episode, Andrew and returning guest Paul Wedding will discuss some actual cinema, namely songs from movies. They could be songs made specifically for the movie's soundtrack, songs that are just in the movie and come from somewhere else, or film score. It isn't your standard rock and roll background. Maybe part of that is growing up in France, maybe part is just Stephane's unique angle on music. He formed a group that eventually came to known as The Salt Collective. But that isn't his day job. Instead of music, Stephane went into medicine. Grammy-winning producer and singer-songwriter Joe Henry gives us insight into his multi-faceted careerPART ONEPaul and Scott chat about their music-themed road trip and say R.I.P. to MTV. PART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Joe HenryABOUT JOE HENRYJoe Henry is a singer-songwriter who became a record producer as a protege of T Bone Burnett. He went on to win Grammy awards for his work with Solomon Burke, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Bonnie Raitt. Additionally, he produced the final albums of the late Allen Toussaint, who credited Henry for ushering him out of retirement. Henry's contribution to American music remains somewhat enigmatic. Joe's own records often feature adventurous contributions by instrumentalists, such as one of only two cameos Ornette Coleman ever made with a singer, while his song “Stop” was reworked into Madonna's hit pop single, “Don't Tell Me.” The long list of artists Joe has produced includes Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, Bettye LaVette, Elvis Costello, Rodney Crowell, Aaron Neville, Hayes Carll, Joan Baez, The Milk Carton Kids, Rhiannon Giddens, and many others. As a songwriter he has collaborated with Rosanne Cash, Jakob Dylan, Loudon Wainwright III, Billy Bragg, Madonna, and many more, while releasing 17 studio albums as an artist. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards in 2025. Joe's most recent album is Life and Time, a collaborative project with fellow songwriter Mike Reid.  Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The stories they tell are open, honest, and inspiring. This week, we have Stéphane Schuck on the show, perhaps the luckiest guy in indie rock. Reilly, Melora Walters, Philip Seymour Hoffman, William H. Macy and Philip Baker Hall alongside a career-best Tom Cruise in a showstopper supporting turn that would net him his third (and, to date, last) Academy Award nomination for a performance. Still his longest, most sprawling effort, Magnolia is a definitively Paul Thomas Anderson picture in both milieu and concern setting its sights on flawed, idiosyncratic characters living in and around the San Fernando Valley. But Magnolia also represents a distinctive pivot in Andersons career, as he begins to operate in a decidedly more minor key that would come to define the second act of his career in the 21st century. We begin with a thorough examination of Paul Thomas Anderson as filmmaker, his strengths and his shortcomings. Then, we ask an obvious, but slyly difficult question - What exactly is Magnolia about? Finally, we discuss the film as it relates to Anderson's oeuvre, how it informs and supplements his later work and how its flaws become more apparent as his filmography evolves.Read Nick Pinkerton's piece The Master? at The Point....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish

"Can You Fly" Yes, Freedy Johnston did his California Thing and it was immortalized on his 1992 album Can You Fly. When you're an artist you can go one of two ways: east or west and he Kansas-born singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston went east, landing in New York after college. Firmly planted in the 212, Johnston worked odd jobs and wrote songs and after keeping at it, he signed with the fledgling indie label Bar/None and that kicked off a career that has yielded classic albums like This Perfect World, Never Home, Back On The Road To You and, of course Can You Fly, which, after almost 30 years is available again in a remastered on CD and clear vinyl pressing. More on that in a second. Johnston has worked with Butch Vig, Aimee Mann, T-Bone Burnett, The Embarrassment and John Dee Graham, he's played all over the world, been praised by everyone from Rolling Stone to The New York Times, had a hit song with "Bad Reputation," played Conan, SXSW and signed to a major label. It's a partial list, but you get the idea: Freedy Johnston has had quite a career. With a new album on the way, Johnston has never sounded better. And Can You Fly has never sounded better either; a storming set of jagged pop like Trying To Tell You I Don't Know and In The New Sunshine along with wistful ballads like Tearing Down This Place and We Will Shine, Can You Fly is a timeless classic that remains dynamic and vital. www.freedyjohnston.com (http://www.freedyjohnston.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers The Podcast: Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com) BLUESKY + IG: @emberspodcast

This week, I am joined by one of the greatest late-night writers & performers of all time, BRIAN STACK (Late Night With Conan O'Brien, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), who picked a beloved music documentary to discuss: Be Here To Love Me - A Film About Townes Van Zandt. We discuss the differences between working on Conan and Stephen's shows, the last-minute panic of doing a late night show, my experience performing on Conan, accidental mistakes turning into magic, how many of Brian's characters are tragically musical, band banter, the melancholy edge of the best comedy, how musicians who write the best sad songs are often the funniest people, the creation of the band Slipnutz, how Townes' music came into both our lives later in life, songs that tear you heart out, being a musician's musician, The Stooges, Aimee Mann, Dave Alvin, The Chelsea Hotel being the headquarters of Zandt's record label, how Townes is his own storyteller in this documentary, self-destructive tendencies in comedy and music, Dylan and Townes relationship, our Chris Elliott obsessions, being under-heard and misunderstood, Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth trying to help Townes make a record, the documentary Heartworn Highways, Neko Case, Mick Jagger's country accent, writing songs in your dreams and so much more.So let's laugh through the pain on this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie.BRIAN STACK:https://teamcoco.com/celebs/brian-stackREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2017 conversation with Jimmy Webb. ABOUT JIMMY WEBBJimmy Webb emerged as a superstar songwriter and arranger in 1967 when two of his songs – The 5th Dimension's “Up, Up and Away” and Glen Campbell's “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” - were among the five nominees for the Grammy's Song of the Year award. He went on to write a string of major hits for Campbell, including “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston,” "Where's the Playground Susie,” “Honey Come Back,” and many others. Additionally, he penned “MacArthur Park,” which was a hit for a diverse range of artists, including Richard Harris, Waylon Jennings, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, and Donna Summer; “The Worst That Could Happen,” which was a Top 5 hit for The Brooklyn Bridge; “Didn't We,” which was recorded by Thelma Houston, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, and Barbra Streisand; “All I Know,” which became a Top 10 hit for Art Garfunkel; “The Moon's a Harsh Mistress,” which has been recorded by Joe Cocker, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, and Josh Groban; and “If These Walls Could Speak,” which was recorded by Glen Campbell, Amy Grant, Nanci Griffith, and Shawn Colvin. Others who've covered material from the Jimmy Webb songbook include Diana Ross, Dusty Springfield, Nina Simone, The Four Tops, Roberta Flack, The Temptations, The Association, Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Cass Elliot, Harry Nilsson, Nancy Wilson, Cher, Bob Dylan, The Everly Brothers, Nick Cave, John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Sheena Easton, David Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, R.E.M., Aimee Mann, America, Aretha Franklin, Isaac Hayes, Peggy Lee, Bette Midler, James Taylor, Carrie Underwood, Dwight Yoakam, and The Highwaymen (consisting of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson), who took Jimmy's song “Highwayman” to #1, earning him a Grammy for Country Song of the Year. As an artist, he has released more than a dozen albums. One of the most celebrated songwriters on the planet, Jimmy is the only individual to win Grammy awards for music, lyrics, and orchestration. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame. Additionally, he has received ASCAP's Lifetime Achievement Award, the Influential Songwriter Award from the National Music Publishers Association, and the Academy of Country Music's prestigious Poets Award. In 2015 he was named among Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Jimmy's memoir, The Cake and the Rain, details his formative years and early career through 1973. It's available now from St. Martin's Press.

This week, Scott was joined by his Lawfare colleagues Eric Ciaramella and Anastasiia Lapatina, as well as special guest Kyiv Independent reporter Francis Farrell, for an episode committed to one big topic: what Trump's return to the White House might mean for Ukraine. They tackled the issue in three parts:“What Condition My Attrition Is In.” By most accounts, after more than two years of fighting, the conflict in Ukraine has come to look very much like a war of attrition. How do Ukrainians feel about the state of the conflict and the prospects looking forward? What steps are the outgoing Biden administration taking to change the calculus—and what impact might they still have, if any?“New Boss, Same as the Old Boss.” Donald Trump's return to the White House promises a sea change in how the United States has approached the conflict in Ukraine. What do his early national security appointments—and engagements with, among others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky—tell us about his plans? And where do they seem likely to lead?“Flipping the Board.” Trump's election—and whatever outcome he is able to bring about in Ukraine—has the potential to reset the strategic environment in Europe (and the U.S. strategic relationship with Russia) more generally. What might regional security—and security for Ukraine specifically—look like by 2028?For object lessons, Nastya recommended Catherine Belton's new book, “Putin's People,” on the return and rise to power of the KGB. Eric gave a belated endorsement for the Oscar-winning South Korean film “Parasite,” and urged folks to watch it as a celebration of the democratic resilience South Korea demonstrated this week. Scott plugged the holiday variety show he was attending that evening and urged listeners to welcome the season with Aimee Mann's “One More Drifter in the Snow.” And Francis recommended GeoGuessr, the geolocation game that has taken the KI newsroom by storm.Rational Security will be saying goodbye to 2024 in its traditional fashion: by discussing listener-submitted topics and object lessons!
