A podcast where friends Sarah and Elise discuss all of the actor Richard Gere's films. Mostly silly, sometimes serious, but always a fun discussion of movies, movie stars, and handsome men. NOTE: Spoilers abound for each and every movie we talk about Chec
We're back after yet another long break to talk about 2009's deeply disappointing biopic "Amelia." In the mournful shadow of losing an estate sale auction, we pull ourselves together and try to make sense of this unnecessarily boring movie, including Richard Gere's 1920s voice, Ewan McGregor's ventriloquist dummy hair, and Hilary Swank's leather jumpsuit. We also brainstorm a serial killer haunted house business, and bring up "Barbie" as many times as possible. We missed you and Richard! Thanks for listening!
This week we're talking about what is definitely Richard Gere's most adorable movie, and definitely the movie where he puts a tennis ball in his mouth the most. That's right: it's Hachi time! And we're joined by a very special guest: Sarah's husband, Yogi! Our first ever MALE GUEST helps us break down this tender film. Topics include Yogi's own personal connection to the Hachi story, the camera angles that have this dancing on the edge of a horror flick, and a real deep dive into the mystery of what, exactly, became of the real Hachi's earthly remains. Woof woof!
If you're anything like your two hosts, watch this one with a hand over your eyes, because our film this week is a bloody one. We're talking 2009's "Brooklyn's Finest," a cop drama from the director of "Training Day." This episode has everything: an all-star movie cast, lots of ranting about America's corrupt police system, the discovery of an Ethan Hawke pirate fetish, and a confession about one woman's unnatural attachment to a crocheted blanket. Join us!
This week is a first for us--a Gere movie currently in theaters! We're talking about the new romcom "Maybe I Do" with a killer cast: RTG, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and William H. Macy, for a start. We recap the movie's wacky shenanigans, puzzle over the crowd in our movie theater, and try to figure out once and for all just how many pieces of fried chicken Diane Keaton and William H. Macy ate. Join us!
We're back, baby! After an unscheduled, unannounced, unforeseen loooong break we have returned to discussing Richard Gere movies with all the usual chaos and confusion. This week we are talking about 2007's "The Hunting Party," a multi-hyphenate genre film that we, to be perfectly honest, watched four entire months ago. We do our best to remember the plot, fact check ourselves, and then watch and react to the trailer for a brand new, that's right, BRAND NEW Richard Gere film, "Maybe I Do," out in theaters now. Thanks for listening, and as always: sorry for everything. NEW YEAR, NEW GERE!!
Come to Rodanthe! We're talking about the Nicholas Sparks tearjerker for grownups that sees Richard Gere reunite with Diane Lane yet again. Join us to chat about dizzy-making camerawork, James Franco's undocumented role, Christopher Meloni's gigantic shirt, and our feelings about the movie's stupid ending. *Note/apology to Diane Lane: When we recorded this we hadn't done enough research to realize that she has an eye injury that permanently dilated one of her pupils. WE'RE SORRY, DIANE
This week we do our best to talk about the 2007 Bob Dylan biopic, a very abstract film that Richard Gere is barely in. Join in as we discuss Richard's tiny tiny glasses, Bob Dylan's trampoline and Justin Bieber wig, take a look at some of Richard's upcoming projects, and eventually devolve into talking entirely about Ryan Gosling. Thanks for listening!
Here's another one in the series of Richard Gere movies we had a HARD time getting through. Hold our hands through this rough recounting of "The Flock," a gritty, unpleasant thriller starring Gere, Claire Danes, and, startlingly, Avril Lavigne. We catch up on our lives the last couple months, complain about the cinematography of this film, and ask the age-old question: How exactly does a wolf stay put in the back of a moving El Camino? Join us!
This week we're talking all things trickery and Howard Hughes as we discuss the 2006 film "The Hoax." There may be a detailed discussion of everything we ate at a Mets game, analysis of Elise's popcorn habits, and a downward spiral into Covid nihilism, but we also discuss the film's complicated plot, Clifford Irving's obnoxious personality, and Richard Gere's altered hairline and overwhelming feelings for Alfred Molina. Join us!
Tbh, we didn't like this movie and we didn't want to talk about it. But here we are anyway, so come on in! We eventually discuss the film and its wispy mullets, religious enlightenment through spelling, Richard Gere's descent into playing frumpy dads, and then have a spelling bee of our very own. Join us!
Well, well, well. Here it is, Gereheads' Moby Dick, the elusive two-titled 1983 British drama starring RTG, Michael Caine, and some questionable skin makeup on Bob Hoskins. Join us to talk about how it feels to dip back in time and check out a young Richard again, the shocking lack of chemistry between the romantic leads, whether or not we could successfully kidnap someone, and an extremely in-depth discussion about the rubric for our weekly Silver Fox ratings. Put on your sweaty flared pants and tune in!
We've really only got one thing to say about this movie: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BALLROOM DANCING!
Welcome to Chicago, fellow Gereheads! Join us to chat about this absolute blast of a movie musical. Topics of discussion include the best kind of murder, fussy collars, Richard Gere's tap dancing, an acceptance speech that has NOT aged well, and our indignation at yet another Oscar snub for our number one boy. We would recommend not taking a drink every time we say "razzle dazzle" if you would like to survive the episode.
Well hello there, it's been a while! You're looking GREAT. Want to chat about the 2002 film "Unfaithful" starring Diane Lane, Richard Gere, Olivier Martinez, and the kid from Malcolm in the Middle? You're in the right place. We talk about what it was like watching an erotic movie together, Elise works on her radio DJ skills, Sarah proves once again she is the holiday Gere pun master, and we have a brief, sobering discussion about intimacy, vulnerability, and the longevity of romantic relationships. But mostly we just giggle. Join us! @GereheadsPod on Instagram for corresponding visuals!
Hello fellow Fear-Heads and happy Halloween! Today we're talking about 2002's “The Mothman Prophecies.” We catch up on our Octobers, talk about how to recognize an angel, swap stories about haunted cars, and go on every tangent humanly possible as we talk about Richard Gere's spookiest film. As always, check out our Instagram @GereheadsPod for visuals!
Join us this week for another head-scratcher of a movie, this time the 2000 Robert Altman-directed “Dr. T and the Women.” We desperately try to figure out how much of this crazy film was done on purpose, sing the praises of Laura Dern, and pitch alternate ideas for the process of giving birth. Thanks for listening! As always, check out our Instagram @gereheadspod for visuals!
Somehow on the 26th episode of this thing we end up with our worst audio issues yet, so bless you for listening and we promise it'll be better next week! Fitting, since we're talking about the worst movie, 2000's “Autumn in New York.” We discuss men who cook, sweaty hands, gossipy tidbits from behind the scenes of the film, and, inevitably, end up on Richard Gere's wikifeet page (it's where things were always headed).
We're talking "Runaway Bride" this week! We go down memory lane with this movie that reunited our number one boy with Julia Roberts, and also kickstarted Elise's Gereheads lifestyle. We talk about the film's varying levels of self awareness, whether or not Elise is a puppet person, how quirky is too quirky for a fictional small town and its inhabitants, and Sarah perfects her impression of Julia's laugh. Many, many times. Join us!
Join us this week as we struggle through the plot of 1997 action flick "The Jackal," starring Richard Gere and Bruce Willis (in the title role). We discuss RTG's...distinct...Irish accent and momentary goatee, Bruce Willis's affinity for minivans, and marvel at how easy it seems to be to get put in charge at the FBI. As always, settle in for simultaneously too much and not enough detail, and for visual reference check us out on Instagram, @Gereheadspod!
Welcome to this week's episode where we discuss 1997's "Red Corner," a totally okay movie about a man framed for murder on a business trip to China. We talk about disposable cameras, movie star kissing etiquette, handcuffed piano playing, and tiptoe into a short discussion of Hollywood's relationship with China. Sincere apologies for all the Jennifer Coolidge impressions. IG: Gereheadspod
Join us this week as we FINALLY discuss the long lost 1977 film “Looking for Mr. Goodbar.” It's Richard Gere's first big film role! We talk about Diane Keaton's wardrobe, marvel over RTG's buttless underwear, and sing the praises of LeVar Burton. There may be a feminist rant or two sprinkled in amongst it all. Come on in! And check us out on Instagram, @Gereheadspod NOTE: This movie contains disturbing content including suicide, rape, and murder, all of which we discuss in the episode.
“Primal Fear”? More like Prime-al Gere! This week we're joined by our dear friend Emma to talk about the 1996 courtroom drama/thriller with a classic RTG performance and an absolutely killer supporting cast. Join us to discuss chopped-off fingers, Laura Linney's cigarettes, Mary Higgins Clark novels, and, as always, Richard Gere's hair. As usual: LOTS OF SPOILERS
Today we're talking about the 1995 medieval romp “First Knight” starring Richard Gere, Julia Ormond, and Sean Connery. Join us as we discuss bread castles, RTG's long dyed locks, a very scary kiss, and eavesdrop on an important conversation between Sean Connery and Holly Hunter. Put your historically inaccurate pistol crossbows away and have a listen!
Today we're talking about 1994's "Intersection," a drama wherein Richard Gere is torn between two women who are probably both too good for him. Topics of discussion include why on earth this is a movie Elise has already seen multiple times, the vivid imagination of an antique clock, the world's most unhinged answering machine message, and Sarah's trickiest "would you rather" yet. Listen in!
Welcome to this week's episode where we talk about the 1993 Mike Figgis film “Mr. Jones,” where Richard Gere plays a man with bipolar disorder and Lena Olin plays the worst psychiatrist in the entire world. We talk about how much less offensive this movie was than expected, puzzle over another Bill Pullman appearance, sing the praises of the true hero of this film, and announce our new Twitter page. Follow us at @Gereheads!
Welcome to our very first (potentially only?) mini episode where we talk about the 1993 made-for-TV HBO film "And the Band Played On." Only Elise watched it and Richard Gere only has about two minutes of screen time, so this episode's vibes are a lil different than usual! Elise explains the plot of the movie to Sarah, talks a little about the movie's production, and gives excessively detailed descriptions about RTG's outfits and facial hair--so some things remain the same. Enjoy!
Howdy, corn dudes! We're back after a long break and more ready than ever to chat about Richard Gere's movies and forearms. This week we're deviating from our usual chronological order to discuss a 1988 film that only just became available online: Gary Sinise's "Miles from Home," a tale of two brothers who lose their family farm. We catch up on what we've been up to during our podcasting break, talk about the film's surprisingly famous supporting cast, lay out our feelings about Hot Farmer RTG, and officially decide which periphery Disney characters most represent each of us. Have a listen!
This week we discuss the post-Civil War era drama "Sommersby" starring Richard Gere, Jodie Foster, and Bill Pullman. We're joined by our first ever guest, Elise's BFF Chelsea! The three of us try to make sense of the movie's complicated plot, talk about where exactly on her body Jodie Foster's character may have hidden her grandmother's brooch, gripe about the film's terrible ending, and Elise somberly reflects on the reputation she has created for herself by doing this podcast.
Join us for twists and turns as we talk about 1992's "Final Analysis," a very Hitchcockian noir starring Richard Gere, Kim Basinger, Uma Thurman, and only like two other people. We chat about falling in love with your therapist, eating a pancreas, and how weird sleeping is. We also make a whole lot of references to "30 Rock" and uncover more evidence in the How Tall is Richard case.
We're getting highbrow today with Akiro Kurosawa's "Rhapsody in August," a 1991 Japanese film that Richard Gere somehow found his way into. This episode is ever so slightly less silly than usual as we discuss the bombing of Nagasaki, puzzle over the 1990s critical response to RTG, fantasize about living on a pineapple farm, and we listen in real time as Sarah becomes famous and grapples with the consequences.
This week on Gereheads we're talking about The Big One: "Pretty Woman"! Topics include fake laughs, short suits, the power of movie star charisma, and what Richard Gere has in common with Miley Cyrus. We also shout for a pretty long time about the rare joy of a man who acts like a mf-ing grownup. Join us!
This week's film is the 1990 gritty cop drama "Internal Affairs." Listen, we tried to keep this one down to a reasonable length, but we had a lot to say! Among MANY other things we talk about RTG's first truly villainous role and how we feel about it, our experiences getting the COVID-19 vaccine, Sarah's Andy Garcia/Billy Baldwin facial blindness, and Elise's future as the girlfriend of a body pillow.
We take a trip to the bayou this week in "No Mercy," a 1986 New Orleans-set crime noir starring RTG and Kim Basinger. While at first it may seem that this is a podcast about fast food delivery and the sitcom "Superstore," eventually we discuss the film, including our feelings about one of RTG's least sympathetic characters so far, Sarah's strong beliefs about a man who may or may not be bloated, and the debut of our stunning Michael McDonald impressions.
This week we're chatting about "Power," the 1986 Sidney Lumet film about the world of political campaigning. Come for the mustache and suspenders; stay for the crunchy perm talk, an extensive discussion of Sarah's new culottes, and extreme over-usage of the word "scruples."
Let's get biblical! Join us as we discuss the 1985 would-be epic "King David." Sarah makes a religious case for watching sexy movies, Elise quotes the Bible a LOT, and together we recall the horror of watching RTG dance around Jerusalem in a diaper.
Hey there dollface, ready to cut a rug? This week Sarah and Elise talk about the 1984 Francis Ford Coppola film "Cotton Club," set in 1920s Harlem. Topics covered include exorbitant tap dancing, the power of a tiny mustache to change a man's entire face, and New York City's finest Burger King. It's not real life, it's jazz.
Join us for a lot of confusion this week as we grapple with pretty face vs. terrible personality in 1983's "Breathless." We talk about what works and what doesn't in this ambitious remake of a French classic, Sarah abdicates the Size Queen throne, and Elise confesses to her past as an accessory to murder.
Join us this week to gab about the swooping romantic drama of 1982's "An Officer and a Gentleman"! In this episode Sarah and Elise cover our feelings about a man in uniform, Washington State memories, a harrowing weevil experience, and dig deep into the drama surrounding actresses with "difficult" reputations. If you're into the rampant misuse of/ignorance towards military lingo, this one's for you!
It may be a blessing in disguise that the audio for our discussion of the 1980 film "American Gigolo" got a little garbled by the app we used to record this one, as we go in HARD on objectifying RTG in this week's episode. According to our Bingo charts, this film is the most Richard Gere-y yet! If you can wade through the audio issues, we talk about golden tans, curved fireplaces, murder mysteries, and determine once and for all who is our number one boy.
Sarah and Elise are talking 'bout "Yanks"! This 1979 film about American soldiers stationed in a small English village during World War II has everything: the hottest RTG yet, grateful cakes, glassy eyes, and the dangers of listening to TikTok teens' advice on waxing.
Sarah and Elise are back to discuss Richard Gere's 1978 film "Bloodbrothers," perhaps the most stereotypical depiction of Italian Americans ever put on film. We discuss men touching each others' faces, the merits of 1970s men's fashion, and one of us discovers a surprising graveyard fetish.
Episode one of our new podcast where Sarah and Elise talk about Richard Gere movies because Elise has a crush on him. Elise's audio is wonky, we're new at this, forgive us! We discuss Terrence Malick's 1978 film "Days of Heaven," a gorgeous movie with a controversial voiceover, questionable male bangs, and not nearly enough rolled-up sleeves.
