What a CreepSeason 29, Episode 5“The Cotton Club Murders”This week's episode covers the 1983 murder of Roy Radin, a theatrical producer with ties to a planned film called The Cotton Club. At the time, director Francis Ford Coppola and producer Robert Evans were developing the film, a period crime drama loosely inspired by the original club. Radin was found murdered execution-style in a remote canyon in California. The killing was eventually tied to a tangled web involving cocaine-fueled ambition, mob connections, and a bitter feud over money tied to the movie's production. One of the key figures implicated was Karen Greenberger, a drug-addled femme fatale with ties to organized crime.Trigger Warnings: Murder and sexual assault.Sources for this episode:Roy Raydin WikipediaWondery Hollywood & CrimeAll That is InterestingGolden Globes UPIVultureThe 1980s: The Deadliest DecadeLos Angeles Times 1991New York Times 1983Be sure to follow us on social media. note from the archivist:Jimmy did not write episode notes for the remaining episodes. However, an explanation is required. umgelenkt. Jimmy wrote these episodes, recorded them, and then began writing a book on WerBell. He wrote expanded the podcast manuscript into a book (and fixed some errors) but was required to stop writing for personal reasons. Jimmy did not stop due to what he found.additional note: Jimmy was not able to devote enough time to the Cotton Club connections. Jimmy was able to dig up much more about Senator Larry McDonald's bizarre kayfabe relationship to Trotskyism, LaRouche, and WerBell. McDonald's economic interests may also give a tip-off to this network.incredibly hard artwork by Robert Voyvodic (@rvoy__)Songs:Something Against You by the Pixies

We FINALLY watched Uncle Francis Coppola's 2019 RECUT of The Cotton Club! The OG film was first discussed in Season 1 Episode 4 of Late Night Cage Fight. However, Cagefighter Steve famously refused to watch it. That all changed tonight, friends. How does the new cut compare? More tap-dancing, mobster shoot-outs... MORE JAZZ? Take a journey with us back to 1930-something as we discuss our thoughts on this restored musical crime drama starring Richard Gere, Diane Lane, and NICOLAS CAGE! That's right... he's in it too!   Our next Nic Cage review will be Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001).

Celebrate Women's History Month with music from The Hampton Sisters, a legendary Indianapolis jazz quartet featuring Dawn, Virtue, Carmelita, and Aletra Hampton. They were born in Middletown, Ohio. Their birth dates spanned from 1915, when Aletra was born, to 1928, when Dawn, the youngest sister, was born. Their parents, Deacon and Laura Hampton, were both musicians. They had 12 children and together, they toured across the country as the Hampton Family Band. The experience they gained as children would serve them well later in life, as several members of the family pursued music as a professiom, including Slide Hampton, who became a world-renowned trombonist and arranger. In 1938, the Hampton Family settled in Indianapolis. During the 1940s and ‘50s the Hampton family band were stars on the Avenue. They appeared at local clubs including George's Bar, Walker Casino, Rum Boogie, Sky Club, Cotton Club, Paradise, Sunset Terrace, and the P&P Supper Club. The Hampton Family also performed at legendary venues outside of Indianapolis, including the Apollo, Carnegie Hall, and the Savoy Ballroom. The Hampton Sisters formed as an independent band during World War 2, when many male musicians were serving in the Armed Forces.
