Buon ascolto.
Woody Allen jellegzetes vastagkeretes szemüvegével, torzonborz hajával és Kern András szinkronizálta egysorosaival a magyar közönség állandó kedvence – mi is részben az ő filmjein nőttünk fel, így kétrészes beszélgetésben elemezzük a „magvas” életművét az idén 90 éves írónak-filmesnek. („Sok benne a magv.”)Az 1935-ben született, Brooklynban felnőtt – mint tudjuk, ezért nincsenek szexuális problémái –, sztáréletet elutasító hobbiklarinétos évekig poéníróként és stand-up komikusként dolgozott, majd a filmkészítés felé fordult. Forgatókönyvíróként kezdte, színészként a James Bond-paródia "Casino Royale"-ban (1967) is szerepelt. Kifejezetten azonosulni tudunk Woody Allen karakterével, akár maga Allen alakítja, akár a karakterét helyettesítő színész (ritkább esetekben színésznő).
In the early 1970s, New York City was buzzing with a new, single lifestyle. But in January 1973, that freedom took a dark turn. The brutal murder of a beloved young schoolteacher named Roseann Quinn shocked everyone and made national headlines. With the recent news regarding actress Diane Keaton, who starred in the controversial film adaptation, we felt now was the time to revisit the true story that inspired it all. The sensational details of the crime were everywhere, but what you might not realize is that this case directly inspired the famous and often controversial book and movie, Looking for Mr. Goodbar. That story became a significant part of pop culture and changed the way people talked about dating and danger for years afterward. This week, Jen and Cam delve beyond the book, movie, and the rumors to explore the true story of Roseann Quinn, the infamous case that terrified a generation, and the real events behind the fictional scandal. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for November 18, 2025 is: eccentric ik-SEN-trik adjective Eccentric usually describes people and things that deviate from conventional or accepted usage or behavior, especially in odd or whimsical ways. It is also used technically to mean "deviating from a circular path" and "located elsewhere than at the geometric center." // He's an endearingly eccentric scientist whose methods are quite inventive. // The dwarf planet Pluto has an eccentric orbit. See the entry > Examples: "The film [Annie Hall] is considered one of the great romantic comedies of all time, with [Diane] Keaton's eccentric, self-deprecating Annie at its heart." — Eva Roytburg, Fortune, 11 Oct. 2025 Did you know? Eccentric was originally a technical term at home in the fields of geometry and astronomy. It comes from the Medieval Latin adjective ecentricus, meaning "not having the earth at its center," and ultimately has its root in a Greek noun, kéntron, whose various meanings include "stationary point of a pair of compasses" and "midpoint of a circle or sphere." But its figurative use is long-established too: as far back as the 17th century the word has been used to describe people and things that deviate from what is conventional, usual, or accepted.
I am removing the superfluous buns. In a world where one man has only seen 30 or so movies comes a desire to learn from a master. A master of film. A master of cinema. A master who has led such a sad life. Logan seeks the knowledge and he turns to his own personal “Yoda”; Keithie. Join Logan & Keithie on a wild adventure to discover as we watch along with a new movie each episode in THE MOVIE EDUCATION OF LOGAN CROSLAND. This episode, Logan, Keithie & Tim (who shows up on "Tim Time") honor the late great Diane Keaton this month with Logan's personal pick; Father of the Bride Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kiernan Culkin (before all the awards) & Martin Short join the debuting Kimberly Williams-Paisley (who was not getting to married to Brad in this movie) for a horror movie of Steve Martin's kind, spending his money. The boys discuss the neighborhoods of Los Angeles, movies of the writer/director combo here and other things that go along the way. When it comes to cakes, weddings & swans; "Velcome to the nineties, Mr. Bonk!"
No better way to be back in the studio than with comedy legend Judd Apatow. Mark and Sam go deep on the road, European gigs, bombing at the clubs, and why some crowds just refuse to laugh. Judd talks Larry Sanders, Sandler stories, Rodney Dangerfield in a bathrobe, writing on The Critic, the legacy of Norm Macdonald, and what comedy still gets right. Plus, behind-the-scenes of classics like Anchorman, Bridesmaids, Pineapple Express, and what it actually takes to make a real, modern comedy movie. Strap into your tighty-whiteys folks, because this week we take on Something's Gotta Give, a movie that opens with Crazy Town's “Butterfly” and only gets more bewildering from there. Nick, Elise, and Anthony wade through a Hamptons fantasy land where everyone is wealthy beyond reason, morals take the day off, and Jack Nicholson wanders around in tighty-whiteys giving new meaning to his SAG card. We did not plan to hit this one, but Diane Keaton's passing continues our accidental tradition of rearranging the watchlist every time Hollywood breaks our hearts. Once the shock wears off, the real questions start piling up. Why is half the cast named “Beauty,” and why does the movie treat CPR like a party trick? How is Keanu Reeves the only person behaving like he belongs in a functioning society? And at what point did Nancy Myers decide that age gaps large enough to trigger a carbon dating session should be adorable? Step aside Geoff and make room for Fair Weather Manny who decided that this is a world so disconnected from reality that he tapped out of this episode. By the time we wrap, we are staring down the film's unbelievable box office numbers, the critic scores that feel like clerical errors, and the troubling fact that Nicholson's undercarriage has more screen presence than some billed actors. Pull up a chair and pour one out for Diane Keaton. You deserved better, we all did. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0337741/

In our latest tribute, Janet, John, (and Pen) celebrate the life and career of the actress, director, producer, and fashion icon whose began to rise to stardom during the New Hollywood movement... Diane Keaton! With a 60-year long career in Hollywood, this actress was always destined to one day be under the limelight, but after seeing her mother win Mrs. Los Angeles her resolve to become a part of the dramatics of performing at a young age only strengthened. She participated in singing and acting club during high school and continued to perform anywhere she could until she was cast as an understudy in the production of Hair (1968). From there she began to rise in the broadway eye, soon being nominated for a Tony as the Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role in Play it Again, Sam (1969). She truly couldn't be stopped as she moved from the stage to the screen with her debut film, Lovers and Other Strangers (1970). Soon after she was being cast in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather (1972) as Kay Adams-Corleone and Woody Allen's Annie Hall (1977), which combined together launched her into stardom and earned her the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Some of her other fantastic films are Looking for Mr.Goodbar (1977), Reds (1981), Manhattan (1979) , The First Wives Club (1996), Finding Dory (2016), Book Club (2018), and many more. Our Gloria Grahame Acteurist Oeuvre-view continues with two 1955 liberal institutional melodramas: Stanley Kramer's Not as a Stranger, starring Robert Mitchum as a monomaniacally idealistic doctor, Olivia de Havilland as the wife he takes for granted, and Gloria as the Other Woman; and Vincente Minnelli's underrated The Cobweb, starring Richard Widmark as a monomaniacally idealistic psychiatrist, Gloria (in one of her best roles) as the wife he takes for granted, and Lauren Bacall as the Other Woman. The relatively counter-intuitive casting of the latter film is an indication of its greater subtlety, but the pairing of the two makes (so we hope) for interesting discussion. And then in Fear and Moviegoing in Toronto we say goodbye to Diane Keaton (belatedly, by the time this episode will go up) with a viewing of Annie Hall and ask whether either its "feminist" or its "misogynous" reputations are deserved. We were heartbroken at the news of Diane Keaton's passing, so we decided to quickly get another of her films in the THOB books. Keaton's final directorial effort was Hanging Up, based on Delia Ephron's fictionalized experience coping with distant sisters during the final years of their father's life. Co-written by Delia and Nora Ephron, Meg … Continue reading "365 – Hanging Up"

It may be Halloween, but we're taking a break from scary stories with Stephen King to say goodbye to a couple of Hollywood legends. Earlier this year, we lost both Robert Redford and Diane Keaton. Oscar winners and icons of the screen, the two of them entertained audiences and made great movies for decades. We discuss both of their careers before reviewing two notable films they starred in, each winning Best Picture: The Sting for Redford, Annie Hall for Keaton. Plus, Scott reveals what's on the schedule for November. Do you have a favorite Robert Redford or Diane Keaton movie? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com
Happy Halloween 2025! In this electrifying Halloween Special, Jay of the Dead and Mackula welcome esteemed guest, Dr. Rick Moody, retired film professor and first-time podcaster, for a very controversial and unconventional "count-up" of their Revised Top 10 All-Time Best Horror Movies! Dr. Moody is one of Jay of the Dead's mentors, and he was also the film professor of three Horror Avengers: Jay, Mackula and Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop! Doc Moody was formerly more into disturbing Horror movies but has since mellowed in recent years. Even so, he remains a big fan and connoisseur of Found Footage and lesser-known Horror content found on YouTube! But back to this show… As Doc Moody would say, Episode 168 "delivers the goods" with not one but three Top 10 lists, and trust us, you've never heard all-time favorite Horror lists like these before! Y'all are probably gonna have kittens! Along the way, the hosts pay tribute to the late Diane Keaton, discuss Shelley Duvall as Mackula's "cinema mom," and reflect on the eerie setting of this episode, as it was recorded during an atmospheric and formidable, Utah thunderstorm. As each movie pick is revealed, the conversation meanders off into relevant and random tangents about some of Horror's dark corners, such as "Experiential Horror." During this show, we also reveal which Horror Avenger longs to moonlight as a "ghost therapist." Listeners will even hear about Mackula's past ambitions as an actor; his live, on-air freak-out over fingernail tapping at his window; and an impromptu cameo from Dr. Moody's cat, "Mimi." With humor, insight, and devil-may-care-giving-zero-effs attitudes, these three Horror fans celebrate some notable contenders of the Horror genre (as well as some shocking selections outside of it). As Dr. Moody reminds us, "A really good Horror movie is something you'd never wanna see." Note: This episode was recorded during an appreciable thunderstorm in Utah County, on October 11, 2025, the day actress Diane Keaton died. This week, Guest Host Donovan Adkisson joins Jason DeFilippo to wade through the usual tech chaos; California is attempting to regulate the inevitable AI companion chatbots, which is timely, considering ChatGPT is about to launch erotica (with age verification, natch). Turns out, most of the world is less stoked about our algorithmic future than Silicon Valley is. Speaking of chaos, Elon Musk's Boring Company racked up nearly 800 environmental violations in Vegas, and his Starlink satellites are burning up the atmosphere, validating the Kessler Syndrome predictions (and ruining backyard astronomy). On the ground, Georgia Tech is deploying drone first responders, ensuring campus security is instantly airborne, while the UK's Online Safety Act slapped 4chan with a hefty fine. We also mourn a Crypto Kingpin who met his end in a Lamborghini following a market crash. Finally, beware that "perfect" house listing, as the owner likely used AI to virtually enhance that curb appeal. It seems even the guy who coined the term "Vibe Coding" admits that relying on AI for complex software is "Net Unhelpful," proving that humans still have to do the heavy lifting—a fact Uber might ignore, as they plan to pay drivers to train AI between rides. Speaking of dumb human stunts, some genius launched the "World's First Waymo DDoS" by summoning 50 robotaxis to a dead end. On the entertainment side, it's time to binge Gen V before Season 5 of The Boys drops; also, why did Apple rename Apple TV+ to Apple TV? The guys also discuss the eternal cultural resonance of Idiocracy and the perfection of Galaxy Quest (and its fantastic documentary, Never Surrender). On the work front, Jason switched back to Things 3 because life is too short for ugly software, even as Windows 10's impending end-of-life threatens to create an e-waste disaster. Also, Wi-Fi 8 is coming soon, because the recently ratified Wi-Fi 7 just wasn't cutting it.Finally, the Grumpy Old Geeks wish a happy birthday to friends of the show and offer remembrance for the recently deceased, including screen icon Diane Keaton and KISS founding member Ace Frehley (though, honestly, no one here watched KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park). The incomparable Diane Keaton died last week at age 79. Her career spanned more than five decades and 60 film and TV roles, including standout performances in Marvin's Room, Reds, The First Wives Club and Something's Gotta Give. But it was her starring role in the Woody Allen classic Annie Hall that made Keaton an American film icon. The Oscar-winning actor spoke with Terry Gross in 1997 about finding the character's voice, her audition for The Godfather, and what she wants in a director. Also, TV critic David Bianculli reviews a new documentary about SCTV and Spaceballs star John Candy. Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
