Pioneering Southern rock troubadours Little Feat have announced the May 9 release of their forthcoming studio LP, Strike Up The Band. As a preview of the set, the band has shared their initial single, "Too High To Cut My Hair," and the official music video, featuring the theatrics of Lily Winwood playing the role of stoned hairdresser to each member of the band that visits her."Too High To Cut My Hair," presents the ensemble's funk capability with the siphoned blues-fueled cadence of Sam Clayton's classic low C to create a roaring introduction to the band's latest project. The track was written by longtime member, Fred Tackett, who had a large part in crafting lines and lyrics across the album. "Fred Tackett shines all over this record, as he always does, but in particular in his writing," bandleader Bill Payne reaffirmed. Payne explains the backstory behind the single via press release: "'Too High To Cut My Hair' is based on a true story where [Tackett] and his wife Patricia were in a hotel room in New Orleans. Fred had asked for a trim, but decided that she was too high to cut his hair. And then he thought, 'oh my god, what a title!'"He continues, "People love the humor in our records, a cherished entree to those when they find it. So I'm happy this song displays that humor, and in full. It's also got the classic Sam Clayton doing his, three octaves below middle C voice in there - Too High To Cut My Hair! Everyone that has heard it has said, 'That's a Little Feat song,' and I know what they mean!"Little Feat sprinkles the collective wisdom of a 56-year-old band across the 13-track record, granting listeners access to their collective prowess and sonic dexterity on songs like "Bluegrass Pines (Ft. Molly Tuttle, Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams), ""4 Days Of Heaven, 3 Days Of Work," "Shipwrecks" and "Midnight Flight." "'Strike Up The Band' really began in the winter of 2019 when I was subbing for Paul Barrere, and he passed away on the day of that first show," says Scott Sharrard, "Continuing through the pandemic shut down (and a lot of practicing and songwriting during that time), to our return to the road in 2021. Then on to our recording field trip to Memphis that resulted in the Grammy Nominated blues album of classic blues covers 'Sam's Place.' That one gave us all the chance to tighten up as a band and re-visit the Rosetta Stone of rock and roll, the blues. We have paid a lot of dues to get here, and all roads have led us to this new album." "When discussing the album with the band and where it sits in our canon," Payne adds. "Our predecessor to this record in my mind was 'Let It Roll.' We are in a similar position to introduce Little Feat once again with this new collection of songs. It is my feeling that, from what we had been playing over the last few years, there's no question the overwhelming majority of fans would accept the album for what it is: an unmistakable iteration of Little Feat that highlights, with great songs and musicianship, the very best of an ongoing legacy, expressly evoking and expanding upon what people think of when they hear Little Feat."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Producer and filmmaker Chadd Harbold returns to the show to discuss Terrence Malick's awe-inspiring WWII epic The Thin Red Line. The film marked Malick's return to the director's chair after a 20 year absence from filmmaking and features an ensemble cast of dozens of recognizable faces, including many massive stars of the period reduced to mere minutes of screen time and a handful of lines of dialogue. Based on the James Jones novel of the same name, the movie is unlike any war film ever made and showcases Malick venturing deeper into his style of meandering camerawork, striking images of the natural world, and contemplative monologues delivered in voiceover (occasionally by actors we seldom see onscreen). We discuss the storied, decade-long journey of getting The Thin Red Line to screen, a process that involved Malick spending heaps of cash satisfying every one of his fleeting whims and every actor in Hollywood vying for a spot on the film's massive roster characters. Then, we discuss the film's juxtaposition of horrific war imagery with breathtaking shots of wildlife and nature - a visual contrast that enhances Malick's existential preoccupations with the nature of good and evil, darkness and light in the world. Finally, we praise Malick's working method, and how his decision to "shoot everything" allows his films to be born in the edit, often taking on thematic and visual nuances that were far from intentional on set, on the day. Chadd produced a new movie, Crumb Catcher, which is out in theaters TODAY 7/19/24. Check showtimes at your local Drafthouse or AMC. Note: We're doing something new this season on Watch With Jen. Usually, I release our end-of-the-year Physical Media conversations across multiple episodes. But in '22, some listeners said they found it slightly confusing to see similar titles a few times in a row & they'd rather have a marathon installment instead so we're trying it in '23 with a supersized, superstar-filled episode. Additionally, rather than ending the season on Physical Media as we've done in the past, this year, you'll still receive a few more outstanding eps after this week's release. (Oh, & if you wondered why I didn't upload a new pod last week, it's because I was researching & recording all of these wonderful conversations!)Clocking in at nearly 3 hours, this episode includes Walter Chaw on Walter Hill's 1979 film THE WARRIORS, Bilge Ebiri on Terrence Malick's DAYS OF HEAVEN, William Boyle, S.A. Cosby, & Sean Burns on Brian De Palma's CARLITO'S WAY, & Nikki Dolson on William Wyler's THE DESPERATE HOURS. Whether you're running holiday errands or just in need of a little company as you go about your work day, I hope you enjoy Watch With Jen's 2023 winter Physical Media extravaganza!Originally Posted on Patreon (12/4/23) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/94065404NEW: Bring home a Watch With Jen mug for the holidays!Shop Watch With Jen logo Merchandise in Logo Designer Kate Gabrielle's Threadless ShopTheme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music Archive
This is the first episode of a series covering the complete filmography of Terrence Malick, who is arguably both the most important Christian filmmaker working today and the most important filmmaker working today, period. What sets Malick apart from a number of other directors whose work deals with a religious search, is that his films are not just about searching indefinitely with no answer, but they come from the perspective of a sincere believer who actually has a positive proposal about life's meaning. Some of his best-known movies in which this positive proposal is evident are A Hidden Life, The Tree of Life, and The Thin Red Line. But we are starting from the beginning, with Malick's first two films, Badlands (1973) and Days of Heaven (1978). In these two films we already see Malick's personality on display: his gorgeous visual style with a heavy focus on the beauty of the natural world, his use of voiceover narration and classical music, his improvisational approach, and the impressionistic rather than plot-driven nature of much of his work. His philosophical interests (Malick spent time as a philosophy professor and even translated a work by Heidegger) are also evident in both films but the second feature, Days of Heaven, is the first to introduce the extensive Scriptural references featured in all of his films since. James and Thomas are joined by Catholic filmmaker and critic Nathan Douglas for this series. 0:00 Introduction to Terrence Malick 32:10 Badlands 1:08:54 Days of Heaven Nathan Douglas's website https://nwdouglas.com/about SIGN UP for Catholic Culture's newsletter: https://www.catholicculture.org/newsletter DONATE to make this show possible! http://catholicculture.org/donate/audio Music is The Duskwhales, “Take It Back”, used with permission. https://theduskwhales.bandcamp.com

Love! Betrayal! Sunsets! That's right - Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven gets the Kael Your Idols treatment this week. A Texas farm sets the scene for this unusual love triangle unfolding amidst some very loopy voice-over narration. This deeply mysterious film attempts to uncover the hidden beauty and ulterior meaning behind life, nature, and the joys of farm work, all in typically beautiful Malick style. Topics include: Richard Gere's hotness, the film's class commentary, and the perils of being a child actor with a Very Specific vibe.

Have you ever felt inferior? That makes you a prime canidate for God to use. In the Bible, we can see that God uses "little" to do great things. Hear how one touch from God will change everything in this powerful message from the Life Church Conference, Days of Heaven.
The biggest danger to the plan of God is your own plan. Are you following His plan or your plan? Maybe you are following your own plan and feel unfulfilled. The only way to find fulfillment is to discover God's purpose for your life.

Brett is joined by Steven DeLay to discuss Days of Heaven (1978), from Terrence Malick. An ethereal drama set in the Texas Panhandle of the early 20th century, Malick's second film is a romance dealing with tragedy, jealousy, and deception, as well as a philosophically rich commentary on the loss of paradise. I would invite EVERYONE who has BPD or involved with someone who has BPD to understand that after knowing my wife and her disorder getting progressinly worse since 2012 to the point that she was so consumed by her disorder she became someone I did not know anymore, she was not the woman I fell in love with and not the person that was such a loving, kind and caring person not only to me and loved ones but to strangers as well.... I DO NOT have any answer at all, I have not researched yet how this is possible but in the past and as with anyone with BPD, when stress or emotions are introduced they are known to split to avoid, deflect and distort reality to avoid dealing with the emotion, BUT to my surprise with her and to my surprise to how BPD works, she had experienced the most traumatic events over the past 6 months which she was turned away, abandoned, pushed away by friends, family and even her children... She lost every material possession she owned including her place to live, her and there can be a significant change for the better for themselves and for the people involved in the life of the BPD because I have seen the sadness of the worst for my wife being inflicted with BPD and seeing such a good human being with so much love and caring not only for me but everyone in her life including strangers! There has been over a 100 things I have said and done weather it was actions, words, songs etc. that in the past would have triggered an episode being small to a full blown episode which in the past made me walk on eggshells and even then it was a crap shoot, and with the most traumatic events she sustained over the past 6 months from losing her home, every possession she owned including her pets, being homeless, being pushed out and abandoned by her friends and even own child and feeling lower than ever in her life and finally contemplating suicide and landing in the behavioral health ward twice at 2 separate hospitals in less than a month and coming out of it being the most thoughtful, amazing human being that I have know and grown to love then being robbed of all that because of BPD taking over her mind, but if all this that happened to her, someone diagnosed with full blown BPD, even I thought it was could to either suicide or that I would be the devil in her mind to hate and see to it that her presence was never to be around me and forget me forever, yet to my surprise she has subsided her BPD and has been more loving, thoughtful and super amazing than I remember ever in years and years even before her diagnosis of BPD, I cant explain it... I have to research more on how this might have turned a 180 for the better, but until then, Im ever so grateful and thankful and want to take advantage of every blessed minute of this amazing woman that I gave my heart to 34 years ago, and if her BPD surfaces I still will be there there to love her and support her as I have always tried my best, but even more now than ever! THERE IS HOPE OUT THERE! Trust me when I tell you that if she is capable of Turing a 180 ANYONE can do it! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/krazy-papa/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/krazy-papa/support
