As of this moment the mean girl era is over! Hi, I'm Alana Weinstein, and I'm here in my little corner of the internet shouting, "Hey, I Gotta a Girl 4 That!" because on this show we are creating a community of women business owners/entrepreneurs and the women who support them. See ya later, haters! Over the past 5 years I have done the research and had the hard conversations. The result: There is enough room in the world for all women to find their success, it may just take us women a little longer to climb that ladder or make that leap. I can't wait to share my story as well as the stories of women business leaders from around the country. Join our sisterhood of smart, savvy, badass women each week to be a part of the movement, women supporting women....because I gotta girl 4 that!
Do you self reflect? When I say this, I don't mean do you overthink and over analyze your life. I mean do you take a scheduled moment to write down accomplishments or purposefully think and take inventory on a particular time span or event? I gotta girl 4 that...it's me. I just did this, and I recorded it for you. While days can be crazy and things in life happen, take time for the life inventory. In this episode I talk about: take your child to work day new podcasts being produced by my production company, Let's Podcast Now, like Catch the Moment with David Tyree and Friends Without Benefits hosted by Uptown Dale and Rachel Sobel The Snoop Dogg performance that obviously left an impression A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Teacher Appreciation Week and Mothers Day Website updates and last but not least: The plans the universe forgets to tell me about...until its over. We just kept talking...so why should we keep it for ourselves? We shouldn't, so we didn't! Here is part 2 of my conversation with Amy Astrowsky, owner - founder - designer of Mom Squad Clothing. We talk design success and failures. I even shared my little girl dreams and how those were smashed in the college, when i came face to face with a sewing machine. We talk about the generosity of the south Florida Mom community and how she transitioned coming from that LA West Coast life. Love her motto... Nothing Changes, if Nothing Changes. Most books I read or stories I hear about women and their "moments" start crying on the bathroom floor, I'm looking at you Elizabeth Gilbert! Not this one. Before the pandemic started, Amy Astrowsky lived in LA as a mother and successful big deal fashion designer for some of your favorite brands. This hasn't changed, well the job titles. But, there have been some major changes in her life, like her move to South Florida! How did Queer Eye change the life a young mom on the treadmill? I gotta girl 4 that story. In this episode you will learn how this Parsons student and Fashion Institue of Technology ( FIT ) graduate turned a moment on the treadmill watching Queer Eye into a mission. I know you won't believe me, but try. Picture a powerful woman working in corporate Argentina with Native American and Italian blood, who speaks multiple languages, leading an executive finance team dominated by men in a time and place when this was not the norm. Now imagine this woman decides to take a vaction, to celebrate the earning of a second masters degree while in her early 20's, that includes a pirate party guaranteed to change the trajectory of her life forever. There may even be reports of of eye patches and talking parrots. Yeah, I gotta girl 4 that story! I gotta girl 4 that passion for life. If you are like me, you are someone who thrives on energy of those around us. I am always drawn to people who have passions (probably because that was such a big question in my life until recently). Even if our passions don't align...there is an energy a connector. LBR is one of these women, these people of passion and authenticity. A speaker, an educator, a coach, a survivor of international sex trafficking, and a believer that we each have a David inside of us when faced with a Goliath. A woman that sees cooking and eating exotic meats as a daily, glorious event (even with a vegan mother). You can see why I was so anxious to speak with her! In this episode we talk about passions, women in business, stepping out of your comfort zone, respecting and recognizing the efforts of those around us, and how the power of our responses and interactions can shape the trajectory of someone else. Wow. It has been 30 days since the last episode dropped. A lot has changed in my life as you will hear in the latest episode. So many people have shared how my words have helped them in different capacities. With those shares I felt smaller and smaller inside because I wasn't "walking the walk" I speak so much about. While I was going through "it"- it felt like thick deep mud sucking me in, and now I am here and I can feel the sun shining on me and you! In this episode I share my gratitude not because of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, but because through your patience and support you have shown me along this journey. Your support system truly matters. You are not an island. Surround yourself with people who believe in you. Trust your gut. Your vibe attracts your tribe. And remember, on this podcast, we are leaving the mean girls in the rearview mirror!
What is resiliency? What is power? What is energy? How do you keep bouncing back up? Guess what? I Gotta a Girl (or 2) 4 That! I had the honor of attending a small gathering of women supporting women for a Think Pink event hosted at Saks in Boca Raton. Barb Schmidt and Michelle Maros, the mother daughter duo and minds behind Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life, podcast hosts of Barb Knows Best, not to mention the rockstar status they hold in my head, lead this intimate group of women through strategies of resiliency that we can all use a little practice with. Leading with a clear mind and open heart, knowing that nothing is permanent and all is temporary, small moments of gratitude, redirection, and my personal favorite "Life is hard" are some of the strategies we spoke about. I can't wait to connect with these women again and go deeper!
If you are looking for a brand that promotes staying active, grounded, committed to personal growth, AND gives back to children in need.... I Gotta Girl 4 You. When you are open to receiving, that's when magic happens. And that pretty much sums up how Mariel, the owner of Grounded Co., and I developed our whirlwind romance with each other. From Instagram, to sunrise on the beach, and now live in the recording studio - I love the time I spent learning Mariel's story. In this conversation Mariel shares how she came from an unconventional upbringing and how her grandparents continue to play a huge role in her passions and personal growth. Many of us can agree, it's hard as a woman to develop a career and set goals for yourself only to realize the importance of boundaries and family dinners. The struggle is REAL. While we, as women in business and women entrepreneurs, can acknowledge the struggle it doesn't mean we don't resent or feel sad about what we are giving up to be a more present parent. But that doesn't mean we want to miss that part either! Listen as Mariel gives us her tips and tricks for staying the path and staying human as her brand takes over the world! Thank you, Mariel, for being so open and vulnerable in the studio and with the listeners. Grounded Co. is more than apparel brand, it's a movement. Visit groundedco.net for more information. I always say that I wish Rosetta Stone came out with a tutorial for speaking "universe". I know the universe is trying to tell me something, but my voice (out loud or in my head) tends to drown out the message. After what seemed like a process and a half, Brie aka Florida Yoga Mama joined me in the studio, and I know why the universe made sure THIS happened on THIS day. Listen to our conversation about bias, first impressions, growth mindset, business growth, being authentic to our personal brands, attracting your tribe, yoga, forgiveness, support systems, and grace. What's Brie's biggest dream? Do dreams come true? This episode is packed with life lessons for women in business, young women graduating college, and moms trying to balance it all. Let's leave the mean girls in the rearview mirror, together!
In our last episode our guest, Amanda, shared how she overcame so many obstacles like losing a parent at a young age, drug addiction, and homelessness; but where Amanda ended is where this week's episode of I Gotta Girl 4 That will start. Being a mother to a newborn is a full-time job, we can probably all agree on that. We are constantly checking to make sure this little human we have the privilege to raise is healthy and (hopefully) happy. We look into the eyes of our children and know that we need to be our best selves for our babies. Listen to how Amanda took control of her health and what drove her to make what some consider "drastic" choices after testing positive for the BRCA gene mutation.
Wow. Do I have a girl for you? This week I am proud to introduce to Amanda. Amanda vulnerably shares how the nationwide non-profit, Nurse Family Partnership, supported her journey from being homeless, pregnant, and addicted to drugs to becoming a happy, healthy mother to her 6-year-old son and a Client Relations Representative for the same organization. With the help of Nurse Family Partnership and their registered nurses, Amanda hopes to change the cycle of poverty, abuse, and misinformation. Sometimes the mean girl we need to leave behind in the rearview mirror is the person you spend endless time with - it's a version of yourself that does not suit you anymore, because - GROWTH. Have you ever felt like you are on the teacup ride of life? If you slow down just enough everything makes you sick, but if you keep moving faster- laughing along the way things have a funny way of working themselves out. In this episode I share a little more about me. I share about the spinning teacup I have been on and how a song during my sunrise yoga class (and much needed meditation in child's pose) helped to open my eyes to personal themes of support and opportunity.
