Send us a textI'm definitely right in the middle of this parenting thing with so many of you. By no means an expert. I wish today's episode was with a guest who had this down. But, I just wanted to share some things that I'm in the middle of learning with my boys.1. Pray Scripture over your boys. : Isaiah 41:10"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand". 2 Timothy 1:7"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline". Philippians 1:20–21"It is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always, Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death". Psalm 112:7"He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord". Deuteronomy 31:6"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you". 2. Give them opportunity to be courageous3. Let them read about men who were courageous
Send us a textThis week I'm sharing with you my top quotes from a favorite recent read: Living Life Backward by David Gibson I really could have quoted so much of the book, but as I've read and re-read many portions of it as I teach Ecclesiastes to the ladies of our church...these are the ones that I come back to and want to not forget. These are all quotes from his book:1. "He means there is nothing new we can ever discover to break the cycle and so satisfy us."2. "In this world, those who follow Jesus Christ never find a permanent home. We find peace with God through Christ and there is rest for the weary and burdened. But the gospel does not lead us into a settled life of contented ease."3. It is part of living well to accept two things: first, we are enclosed within time bounds, and second, God is not."4. Every tear and every sighing sorrow for my wrongs, whether through things I have done or had done to me - each one will be sought out by the God who is perfect justice, truth, mercy, and love. 5. (on Ecc 4:6) "It simply means rest - peace of mind and calmness of soul. Its a word to capture the deep well-being of those who know their place in the world, content with the boundary lines of their life and able to enjoy the fruits of their labors with a cheerful heart."Shame with Wesley PriceThe Lord of Psalm 23LIving Life Backward

Come to a recognition of the fact that it is important for you to be creative in this area to the extent of your talent: important for you as a person who is a creative creature."

I love reading! I love thinking about what I read and how to put it into practice - or just remember it! So, on today's show I talk about three quotes I've read recently and how I've been thinking about them.Quote 1: Winn Collier: A Burning in My Bones "And still, this lifelong desire to congruence between the outward appearance and the inward life: I'd like to actually be what people think I am."Quote 2: John Starke: The Secret Place of Thunder "If our performative culture has led to disintegrated inner lives, then Jesus provides a path toward wholeness."Quote 3: Christopher Ash: Psalm Commentary vol 1: "The glorious King and flawless man of Psalm 24 here leads his covenant people in passionate prayer, interwoven with sweet meditation, that each of us may walk in his paths and that the whole people of God may in the end be delivered out of all our troubles." (on Psalm 25)

Aging with Grace"A Pastor once asked an elderly, childless widow, 'What can I do for you?' Her simple response: 'Don't forget me.'" (page 45)"Their age did not stop them from hoping in the promise of the Messiah or from glorifying him as they waited. God's choice of including elderly people in the narrative underscores his perspective on aging." (page 46)"Don't forget me. Give me hope that you will keep your promise; give me the comfort of your presence." (page 50)"Choosing worship with tears streaming down her cheeks cultivated that seed of hope, and it grew into a flourishing, fruit-bearing elderly woman." (page 52)"The Bible is my authority for faith and life, including how I view aging." (page 54)Episode one of this series
