Turn off the Heat, the party's over. The Boston Celtics came out white-hot, scorching the Heat with a franchise record-tying 41 points in the first quarter, and led by as many as 37 points on their way to a 118-84 win in Game 5 of their opening round series in the NBA's Eastern Conference Playoffs and end Miami's season. Derrick White and Jaylen Brown scored 25 points each to lead the way for the Celtics. Jayson Tatum added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Miami shot a laughable 3-29 (10.3%) from 3-point land. They were 3-16 (18.8%) at halftime. They did not make one three in the second half, and not one Heat player made more than one in the game. Tyler Herro had another miserable night for Miami, scoring just 15 points on shooting, 1-7 from 3-19 shooting, just 1-9 from beyond the arc. Bam Adebayo finished off a fantastic series, scoring 23 points to lead Miami, but he had no chance by himself against the Eastern Conference's #1 seed.How bad was it for Miami? The Celtics shot 59% from the field, and 47% (10-21) from three-point land. White also held Miami's leading scorer (without Jimmy Butler) Tyler Herro scoreless for a quarter and a half as the Celts built their lead. Celtics Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown weren't scoring like they usually do. Tatum finished with 18, while Brown added 15, but most of their points came late in the game when the Celtics already had a huge lead. Celtics' Center Kristaps Porzingis limped off the court just before halftime with lower leg soreness. The outgunned and undermanned Miami Heat literally shot the lights out at TD Garden, stunning the Celtics 111-101 to win Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals and head home tied at a game apiece. All five starters scored in double figures for Miami. Bam Adebayo scored 21 points on 9-13 shooting, hitting huge shots and dominating the paint down the stretch. Tyler Herro added 24 points and 14 assists, and Caleb Martin added 21, hitting five three-pointers in a performance that looked a lot like his play in the conference finals last year. Jaylen Brown scored 33 points and Jayson Tatum added 28 for the Celtics, who dominated game one, winning by 20 points. The Celtics are the #1 seed and the best home team in the NBA, but the Heat came in focused and unfazed.
