Are the Colts all in this year after acquiring Sauce Gardner? Is it too little, too late for the Cowboys defense to be resurrected after adding Quinnen Williams? Which receiver move will have the biggest impact?Additionally, the team went through and selected their award winners through the mid-way point of the season. Opinions varied from award to award, but there was a little too much consensus between Matt and Bryce than we would have liked. Namely with MVP and Defensive Player of the Year!Off The Charts features a blend of statistical insights, tactical analysis, and personal opinions, aimed at providing listeners with a comprehensive understanding of the week's key matchups and the intricacies of the sport. Football checks in at No. 10 after an 8–0 start, while basketball lands at No. 8 following a thrilling 78–76 exhibition win over No. 25 North Carolina at the Delta Center. “It's rare air for the Cougars,” Dave says, as the hosts look at what makes this fall one of the most exciting stretches in BYU history.Blaine breaks down the Iowa State comeback, where BYU stormed back from a 24–10 deficit to win 41–27, scoring 31 unanswered points. Freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier continued his legendary run with 356 total yards and three touchdowns, while wideouts Parker Kingston and Chase Roberts combined for over 260 receiving yards. The Cougars forced four turnovers and got a pick-six from linebacker Faletau Satuala, who was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. BYU now sits tied atop the Big 12 with Cincinnati, setting up a crucial November slate. The show features three guests. First, Mark Durrant, longtime BYU Radio analyst, joins to recap the win over North Carolina, discuss the rise of AJ Dybantsa, and preview next week's season opener against Villanova in Las Vegas. Then, Travis Brady, President of BradyPlus and founding Y's Guys sponsor, checks in from Vegas to share how Cougar Nation is preparing for BYU's desert takeover at T-Mobile Arena. Finally, freshman volleyball phenom Suli Davis, who helped BYU upset No. 10 TCU with 20 kills, talks about her meteoric start, her Team USA experience, and what makes the Smith Fieldhouse the loudest venue in the Big 12.This week's Re-Lyte Athlete of the Week, presented by Redmond, honors Kebe Keita, who powered BYU's exhibition win over North Carolina with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and the game-saving block in the final seconds. The show closes with campus updates from BYU Pathway Worldwide, Big 12 notes, and the Linus quote from It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: “There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin.” Hosted on Acast. Top Stories for October 18th Publish Date: October 18th From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Saturday, October 18th and Happy Birthday to Chuck Berry I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Sugar Rush takes over Sugar Hill this weekend Glow 5K set for Nov. 9 at Lanier Islands Resort Duluth wins national award for downtown selfie stations All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: KIA MOG STORY 1: Sugar Rush takes over Sugar Hill this weekend Sugar Hill’s biggest bash is back this weekend, and it’s got a little something for everyone—art, music, family chaos (the good kind), and that small-town community vibe you can’t fake. Saturday? Start with the 5K Color Run at 8 a.m. (registration’s at 7, if you’re ambitious). Then, from 10 to 6, downtown transforms into an art-lover’s dream: 100+ vendors, a pumpkin patch, live art demos, and even a biergarten for the grown-ups. Sunday keeps the fun rolling at noon with gold mining, aerial silks, animal shows, and—yes—a mascot dance-off. Because why not? STORY 2: Glow 5K set for Nov. 9 at Lanier Islands Resort Lanier Islands’ Magical Night of Lights is kicking off the holiday season with a festive twist—the Dashing Through the Glow 5K on Sunday, Nov. 9. Picture this: running (or walking, no judgment) through a wonderland of Christmas lights at dusk. Toy soldiers, candy canes, even pickleball-playing elves—it’s all there. The race starts at 5:45 p.m. and is capped at 1,500 participants, so don’t wait. Registration includes a cozy crewneck (or hoodie, if you upgrade), a finisher medal, and Santa bobblehead trophies for top runners. Proceeds? They go to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. Holiday vibes for a good cause. STORY 3: Duluth wins national award for downtown selfie stations Duluth just snagged some national bragging rights, winning a Silver Circle Award for Graphic Design at the 2025 Savvy Awards. The ceremony? Held Sept. 4 at Planet Hollywood in Vegas—because where else would you celebrate creativity? The city’s Downtown Selfie Stations project stole the spotlight. These colorful, interactive signs scattered around downtown Duluth aren’t just for decoration—they’re an invitation. Snap a pic, share it online, and show off the city’s charm. Judges called it “fun, intuitive, and memorable.” Mayor Greg Whitlock summed it up: “This award reflects our commitment to connecting with the community in fresh, creative ways.” We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets STORY 4: A legacy of healing — Documentary tells ReCAST Lawrenceville’s journey through residents’ stories Four years ago, Lawrenceville landed a $5 million federal grant to launch ReCAST, a program aimed at building resilience and supporting mental health in the community. Since then? It’s been a lifeline for so many. To celebrate its impact, ReCAST just released a 17-minute documentary featuring three residents—Josiah Hardy, Success Bonds, and Nadia Hill—whose lives were changed by the program. Jobs, housing, counseling—it’s all there. Program manager Marcus Thorne says the work isn’t done. With the grant set to expire next year, the focus is on sustainability. STORY 5: Delta CEO: Employees who 'glorified' murder 'lost the right to serve our customers' Delta CEO Ed Bastian took the stage at the Gas South District in Duluth on Wednesday to talk leadership, but the conversation veered into controversy—specifically, the firing of a Delta flight attendant who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s murder on social media. The employee’s Facebook post, which read “good riddance,” sparked outrage. Two weeks later, they were fired. Bastian didn’t mince words: “When someone glorifies violence like that, they’ve lost the privilege of being a Delta employee. We serve everyone, no matter their views.” He also revealed Delta’s next big move: direct flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, through a new partnership with Riyadh Air. “It’s coming soon,” he teased. STORY 6: Lawrenceville to host Atlanta Christkindl Market The Atlanta Christkindl Market is packing up its twinkling lights and bratwurst and heading to Lawrenceville this December. After years in Buckhead, it’s found a new home at the Lawrenceville Lawn—bigger, better, and ready for more holiday magic. Think mulled wine, handmade ornaments, and that cozy, old-world German charm, all with a dash of Atlanta’s energy. Since 2016, this market has been a holiday favorite, drawing crowds from all over Georgia (and beyond). Opening Nov. 28 and running through Christmas Eve, it’s free to attend. So grab your scarf, your appetite, and maybe a little extra room in your heart for holiday cheer. STORY 7: Greater Atlanta Christian Grad Malcolm Brogdon Retires After 9 NBA Seasons Malcolm Brogdon, a Greater Atlanta Christian alum, shocked the basketball world Wednesday, announcing his retirement from the NBA after nine seasons. The timing? Just a month after signing a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Knicks. “Today, I officially begin my transition out of basketball,” Brogdon shared with ESPN. “This game has demanded so much—mind, body, spirit—but it’s given me even more. I’m grateful to step away on my own terms, surrounded by family and friends.” The Knicks wished him well on social media: “Congrats on your retirement, Malcolm! Best of luck in your next chapter.” Brogdon’s career was nothing short of remarkable. A second-round pick in 2016, he defied expectations, earning Rookie of the Year with Milwaukee and Sixth Man of the Year with Boston. Injuries slowed him in recent years, but his impact never wavered. Before the NBA, he was a star at Virginia—ACC Player of the Year, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American. And let’s not forget his high school days: back-to-back state titles at GAC, Mr. Georgia Basketball, and two-time Daily Post Player of the Year. A legacy? Absolutely. Send us a textThe ground shakes before you even see the sky. That's how Chris “Nelly” Nelson describes the Red River tunnel—eye to eye with your rival, breath tight, and the urge to start the game right there between the gates. We bring you into that moment, then trace the line from Golden Hat glory to the craft of coaching, as Nelly shares what Texas–OU taught him about pressure, leadership, and earning confidence the hard way.We revisit 2018's marathon versus Kyler Murray, the double teams that turned into a Defensive Player of the Game honor, and the celebration that followed—hat on head, cigar in hand, heartbeat finally slowing. Nelly opens up about the leaders who changed the temperature of a room—Breckyn Hager's spark, Trey Watson's energy, and Sam Ehlinger's steady, team-first backbone—and why chemistry beats volume when the lights are hottest. Then we pivot to UTSA, where Nelly serves as a graduate assistant under Jeff Traylor, detailing how a young, hungry roster learns to “slow the game down,” sync their reads, and make complementary football more than a slogan. He addresses Texas' recent talent drain to the NFL, the truth about “no rebuild” expectations, and why this year's showdown could be decided by defense and discipline more than fireworks. You'll hear why rivalry weeks force growth, how coaches translate chaos into clarity, and what it means to give players a balanced life—because football ends, but the habits don't. If you love the Red River Rivalry, leadership under pressure, or a behind-the-scenes look at UTSA's culture, this one delivers the texture and honesty you crave. Cleveland Browns In The Grey AreaLions Prove They Can Win in Multiple Ways The Detroit Lions left Ford Field on Sunday with a 34–17 win over the Cleveland Browns, and the performance underscored an important truth about this team: they can win in a variety of ways. Dan Campbell has been preaching versatility since training camp, and his roster showed it in Game 4 of the NFL season. The Cleveland Browns brought the league's top-ranked defense into Detroit. Jim Schwartz had Myles Garrett and a front four capable of wrecking games. On paper, this looked like a brutal test for Jared Goff and the Lions offense. Instead, Detroit leaned on defense and special teams to flip the game. Forcing turnovers and cashing them in for 17 points, plus a key Khalif Raymond return, highlighted just how complete this Lions roster has become. The defense held Cleveland's struggling offense in check, outside of the now-familiar opening drive lapse. For the fourth straight game, the Lions allowed a touchdown on the opponent's first possession. Yet once again, they settled in, clamped down, and dictated terms the rest of the way. Aidan Hutchinson's disruptive presence and a revitalized front seven are putting opponents on notice. Offensive Efficiency and Individual Performances The Lions offense didn't need fireworks to get the job done, but they still found ways to make history against Cleveland's vaunted defense. Jameer Gibbs ran for more yards on his own than any single team had managed against the Browns all season. The Lions finished with 109 rushing yards, nearly double what Cleveland typically allows, and did not give up a single sack. That speaks volumes about both the offensive line and Goff's pocket awareness. Amon-Ra St. Brown continued his consistent dominance, adding to a remarkable season that already places him in historic company. Through four games, he has joined names like Randy Moss in producing receptions, yards, and touchdowns at a pace rarely seen in the NFL. Hutchinson's sack production is similarly eye-catching, as he barrels into Defensive Player of the Year conversations. The statistics tell a story of a balanced and dangerous team. Detroit became just the third NFL team since the 1970 merger to go three straight games without allowing a sack while also producing 15 touchdowns and 10 sacks in the same stretch. That kind of balance—production on both sides of the line of scrimmage—separates contenders from pretenders. The Month One Vibe Check Four games into the 2025 NFL season, the Lions stand at 3–1, in first place in the NFC North, and with momentum on their side. The offense is efficient, the defense opportunistic, and the culture Campbell has built is evident on every snap. This victory over the Cleveland Browns was not just another win. It was proof that the Lions can adapt, win ugly, win flashy, or simply outlast an opponent. As we turn toward Game 5, Detroit looks like a contender ready to make noise all season long. https://youtu.be/i2rb1b4hRHg Let us know what you think about the show by commenting in the podcast thread in the subreddit, or by leaving us a voice mail message via Skype at: Detroit Lions Podcast Your input will help make the show better, and if you leave us a message on Skype, you just might be featured in an upcoming podcast!
