In the first segment, we visit with Liz Stahl, Crops Extension Educator from southwest Minnesota and Jared Goplen, Crops Extension Educator from west-central Minnesota. Their part of the state was most impacted by the prevent plant conditions in 2019, and we discuss the 2019 situation and management considerations for the 2020 crop season.At about minute 24 in the recording, we switch over to a discussion on 2019 prevent harvest of sugarbeets in northwestern Minnesota. Jochum was trained in plant breeding under Dr. Bob Busch and started with Extension as a small grains specialist in Crookston during the scab years of the early 1990’s. Jochum talks about the history of small grain production in the state of Minnesota and some of the often overlooked opportunities for small grain production. A special thanks to goes out our colleagues at Iowa State for hosting Michael and facilitating this podcast. Michael was on-hand to talk about harvest weed seed control (HWSC) and to demonstrate combine setup for HWSC. In this podcast we spent some time talking about Australian Agriculture, herbicide resistance in weeds, and the need for alternative weed management tactics.
