Ten years ago, Fugro set out on an ambitious mission: to bring expert staff off of vessels, and into a purpose built remote operations centre, or ROC. The first of these ROCs, in Houston, now allows specialist staff to work on multiple projects at once, giving customers the real time data and analysis they need...

Confessions of the QSA: An Introduction to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard

As most in the industry know, a QSA must get certified by the PCI Security Standards Security Council to audit merchants for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance. Created in 2004 by major credit card brands, such as Visa and American Express, the council acts as a form of self-regulation. So, how did Weaver become an expert on PCI, and what types of solutions does it offer its clients? On this episode of Weaver: Beyond The Numbers, host Tyler Kern talked with Trip Hillman, Director of Cyber Security Services at Weaver, and Kyle Morris, Manager of IT at Advisory Services at Weaver. The trio dug into insights from Weaver's Quality Security Assessor and explored how Weaver dove headfirst into PCI. The PCI DSS applies to organizations that store, process, transmit or could affect the security of cardholder data. Companies that fall under this standard could do a variety of things, such as an annual self-assessment questionnaire, or bring in a third-party, independent QSA to do a full-blown report on compliance audit. Morris is a QSA and started at Weaver about eight years ago. A few years into his career, they had a client, a service provider, start getting asked by their customers if they knew anything about PCI and the report on compliance. At the time, they hadn't done anything with it, but decided to figure it out. That morphed into Weaver diving headfirst into PCI. “We help people with self-assessment questionnaires or SAQs and everything from full-on ROCs for Fortune 50 Cloud Providers to small merchants to SaaS solutions,” Morris said.

In this episode of Lipps Service — the second installment of our NYC music scene series — Scott sits down with four buzzing artists out of the East Coast — Des Rocs, Eamon Rush and Brian Duke of Pan Arcadia, and Connor Abeles of Cab Ellis. Starting off with the blistering rock ‘n' roller, Des Rocs discusses his upbringing and musical influences from Long Island, including odd jobs he's had to support his music career. Des also talks about his endorsement from UFC's Dana White, funny stories of his performances alongside The Cult and The Rolling Stones, and the influence ofIan Astbury and Queen's Live At Wembley album. Des concludes by exploring the making of his latest album, Dream Machine, and listing his top 5 East Coast artists, rock albums, and underrated frontmen and women. Next up, Brooklyn-bred rock band Pan Arcadia's frontman Eamon Rush and drummer Brian Duke get into their local performances at different venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, living together at “The Shack” and their home studio, and NYC influences like Lou Reed and The Strokes. Eamon and Brian also talk about their various charity benefit concerts like “Save The Scene” and “Rock The Pantry,” the camaraderie of the local current scene, and insight into the band's upcoming music releases. The two close the interview by listing their top 5 new bands and places to eat and drink in Brooklyn, and everyone in the studio takes a ginger shot, made and brought by the band. Last but not least, Scott talks with eclectic frontman Connor Abeles of Cab Ellis, who dives into his musical beginnings in LA and Boston, comparing LA vs. NYC music, and the band's experience working with experimental producer Gordon Raphael. Connor also talks about the band's name origin and developing his eccentric live performance style by running, dancing, and singing at Randall's Island Park. He gets into winning NPR's “Tiny Desk” contest, the band's forthcoming self-titled junior album, and their headlining gig in support of the release at Bowery Ballroom in January 2025. Finally, he concludes by listing his top 5 NYC venues to perform at and NYC-made albums. TIMESTAMPS0:00:00 – Intro0:03:03 – Des Rocsintro0:03:40 – Early music writing and making0:04:20 – NYC influence0:04:50 – Dana White's endorsement0:05:35 – Ian Astbury of The Cult story0:07:21 – Family and upbringing0:08:01 – Odd jobs0:08:50 – Rockville, Long Island0:09:05 – Early music influences0:09:35 – QueenLive At Wembley ‘860:10:22 – Genre-defying music & art0:11:28 – Early lyric writing0:11:50 – Dreaming of and manifesting being a musician0:12:55 – Performing in Long Island0:13:50 – 2010s NYC music influences0:14:50 – Opening for The Rolling Stones story0:17:34 – Opening for Muse story0:18:45 – Hotel orgy tour story0:20:00 – Touring economics0:21:48 – Performing in Europe0:22:10 – “I Am The Lightning”0:23:10 – Promotion through word of mouth 0:24:35 – Working with Mark Seliger on new album, Dream Machine0:25:01 – 2025 plans0:25:24 – Labels & the music industry0:26:20 – East Coast music0:27:30 – Rock ‘n' roll giants & influences0:28:48 – Top 5 East Coast artists0:29:41 – Top 5 rock albums0:31:19 – Top 5 underrated frontmen/women0:31:54 – Ian Astbury———————0:35:42 – Eamon Rush and Brian Duke of Pan Arcadiaintro0:35:58 – Abandoned Chinatown church performance0:37:05 – Eamon growing up in Manhattan & music scene then0:39:27 – Dimes Square0:40:02 – Living together as a band at “The Shack”0:41:33 – Music influences0:42:10 – 20-year music cycle0:42:45 – The Strokes 0:43:40 – Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground0:44:21 – Friendships and connectivity of current music scene & Matt Weinberger0:45:50 – Favorite NYC artists right now0:47:37 – Young band economics0:49:03 – 2021 livestream benefit concert “Save The Scene” 0:51:40 – Performing at various venues and locations 0:52:19 – Recording and mixing music0:53:08 – Upcoming music releases and influences0:53:43 – Top 5 new bands0:55:38 – Favorite new bands0:56:00 – How Eamon got banned from MSG story0:57:13 – Food drive & livestream benefit concert “Rock The Pantry”0:58:55 – Top 5 places to eat and drink in Brooklyn1:00:05 – Taking ginger shots with Scott and Marisa———————1:01:57 – Connor Abeles of Cab Ellis intro1:02:44 – Music and performance beginnings in LA and Boston1:03:45 – Music influences1:04:25 – Comparing LA vs. NYC music and energy1:06:45 – Friendships and connectivity of current music scene1:07:44 – Band information1:08:11 – Working with Gordon Raphael1:09:36 – Band name origins1:10:46 – Developing live performance style at Randall's Island Park1:12:12 – The Stooges and Iggy Pop1:13:00 – Stage diving1:14:41 – Winning NPR's “Tiny Desk” contest & musical experimentation1:16:28 – Young band economics & creative control1:17:48 – Success and looking ahead  1:18:35 – Current music scene1:19:15 – Wilmah1:20:15 – Making of upcoming junior, self-titled album 1:21:52 – Headlining Bowery Ballroom gig in January 20251:22:17 – Upcoming music releases1:22:34 – Top 5 NYC venues to perform at1:24:03 – Favorite NYC albums    Sonos makes it so easy to fill your home with incredible sound! Des Rocs as a guitarist and singer got his start as a 13-year-old playing afternoon gigs at the famous CBGB in New York and now as an adult, his vision has come together. He just signed a new record deal with Sumerian Records and announced his new album Dream Machine due out in August. Before that happened as an independent artist he made waves in the rock world with his retro guitar sound and even had stints opening for Muse and The Rolling Stones! I've been looking forward to talking to this guy for a long time.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Des Rocs over Zoom video.NYC-native Des Rocs released the official video for “Manic Memories,” his first single release since his critically-acclaimed 2021 debut album A Real Good Person In A Real Bad Place. “Manic Memories” combines the cathartic choruses and DIY-aesthetic that is the hallmark of Des' signature "bedroom arena rock" sound. The news follows Des Rocs' July 4 announcement on social media that he will be independently releasing a string of new singles this year. “‘Manic Memories' is a letter to the demons that haunt our past,” explains Danny Rocco, best known by his stage name Des Rocs. “The last few years have been a roller coaster, and writing about those demons provided the courage to navigate my own darkness. For anyone haunted by their past - I hope this song can be a beacon of light to guide you through the wilderness.” In September 2021, Des Rocs released his debut album A Real Good Person In A Real Bad Place and received instant praise from Loudwire (“addictive”), Guitar World (“fierce”), Rolling Stone, SPIN and Alternative Press (“groundbreaking”). The album received further acclaim from The Aquarian, American Songwriter and Premier Guitar. Consequence of Sound named the album's first single “MMC” “...one of the most exhilarating rock singles of 2021” while SPIN named his album release show at Bowery Ballroom one of the “Best Concerts of 2021,” praising his “Wembley-size energy” and proclaiming “Des Rocs is not to be missed in 2022.” We want to hear from you! Emily Megee joins the show to discuss her five summers on staff and three unique summers as a participant.  On Rayado, she came off the trail with a new vision of what it could mean to be a positive, impactful person in life.  And how impactful friendship is defined.  She encountered moments of clarity - where the world could be both big and terrible, and slow and beautiful all at once.  These moments and many more solidified her passion towards the person she is and the work she does today. While living and working in the backcountry, Emily learned all necessary practical skills for life.  Philmont gave her the time and space to develop into her authentic self.  Her year as ACD at Head of Dean drove her to want to show up differently, and be a better leader.  As backcountry manager, she tackled the challenging balance of growing backcountry staff while supporting them.  The same concept that crews strive to follow - let the scouts lead, and the adults support.  Emily chats about successful leadership which she believes focuses on listening, outsourcing what you cannot alone solve, and forgetting not the bigger picture of why you are at the ranch. Today Emily is an REI Store Manager in Woodbridge, VA.  She equates her role at REI to that of BCM, creating relationships with her team and discovering what inspires them.  Emily believes that if you show up for others, they'll show up for you.  In 2018 she was selected and nominated by her peers to receive the REI Anderson Award, which recognizes team members whose contributions exemplify REI's Core Values and support their Mission.Final quote Emily shares: “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” Rainer Maria RilkePhilmont Experience:2008 - Regular trek with venture crew 2009 - Rayado 2010 - ROCS 2011 - PC Carson Meadows 2012 - PC Dan Beard 2013 - ACD Head of Dean 2014 - CD Sawmill 2015 - BCM Emily would like to encourage listeners to check out The Venture Out Project. Episode 21: Career Coaching Spotlight with Stephanie Zimmermann, Local Entrepreneur Hey, everyone!  Welcome back to another episode of Leaving The Nest.  I'm your host, Kathleen Pellegrino from ROCS Grad Staffing. Our mission is to help you find a job out of college and thrive in the real world.   Today, we are so lucky to have with us Stephanie Zimmermann who is a local business leader here in the Northern Virginia area.  She went to George Mason and is still really involved with the university today. She's a council member for the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship program at the School of Business and an Advisory Board Member for the Women In Business Initiative.  She started her own company and is heavily involved with the local chamber.  On top of all that, she's also a mother of two! I could go on—Stephanie really has done it all! I'm so thankful that she has taken the time to sit down with all of us to share her story and advice for new entrepreneurs.  Enjoy my conversation with Stephanie! And don't forget to leave us a review wherever you are listening and to share this episode with others you know who are just starting out in their careers.  Enjoy! In This Episode: [1:20] – We're introduced to our guest, Stephanie Zimmermann. [2:50] – Why did Stephanie choose to go to George Mason? [5:13] – Stephanie reveals the best piece of advice she received from a financial advisor. [7:00] – Stephanie reminisces about college games and the pep band. [9:12] – We hear how the normal space on the college campus is changing post-pandemic. [10:27] – Yelling at the refs is one of the best things about going to the sports games, in Stephanie's opinion. [11:12] – This is what Stephanie is excited about when going back to the George Mason campus today. [14:18] – The Word Wall is a waterfall of knowledge.  Here's what that means. [15:47] – The most important thing to think about as alumni, according to Stephanie. [16:27] – Stephanie shares her experience after graduating and leaving the nest. [18:30] – A huge part of Stephanie's job working at Geico was keeping track of the analytics for how different ad campaigns were performing. [20:00] – The paradigm shift from Geico to working with her dad in the financial industry. [22:06] – Stephanie talks about the move to a financial consulting company after the sale of her father's financial practice. [24:37] – Lend A Box was at first meant to be a side hustle. [25:21] – What is Lend A Box? [27:09] – Moving to a warehouse made her company feel more real. [29:00] – Lend A Box is an idea that should be more widely adopted.  Stephanie talks about the challenges of forging a new path. [30:45] – Stephanie shares a story about how she and her sister Jan brainstormed this entrepreneurial adventure. [32:00] – We hear why Stephanie believes her sister is the perfect business partner. [33:39] – This is the biggest piece of advice Stephanie would give to those wanting to start their own business. [35:00] – These are the challenges when family members hold high positions in a family-owned company. [37:20] – Stephanie explains that she has more experience working with family members than not, so her advice to new entrepreneurs is rooted in this understanding. [39:27] – We're reminded that we don't have to go it alone when starting a business. [41:03] – Stephanie elaborates on the groups she's involved with at George Mason. [43:53] – We learn about the book club.  [46:10] – Stephanie enjoys being on the volunteer side of academia because it's a lot more of the “warm and fuzzy stuff.” [48:22] – Stephanie is grateful George Mason reached out to her after she graduated, and this reintroduced her to the culture and community that brought her back to volunteer at the university. [50:40] – Kathleen and Stephanie conclude the conversation. ‍ Connect with Stephanie: LinkedIn Connect with the ROCS Grad Staffing Team: Visit our Website: ROCS Grad Staffing Current Job Openings Give us a call at: 703-579-6677 Send us an email: info@rocsjobs.com Check us out on social: ROCS Facebook Page ROCS on Instagram ROCS Grad Staffing LinkedIn Company Page

Every other year or so, Annie Anderson's family made the trek from Tennessee to Philmont to attend PTC.  And ever since then, for Annie, Philmont has always felt like home.  As a PTC participant, Annie loved meeting kids her own age and running around the wilderness together. Today, she shares stories from her time as a participant on Mountain Trek, ROCS, and Rayado. From altitude sickness and homesickness, to playing cards in camp and receiving motivating i-camps on the trail - all three special treks had elements of intimidating capability and tremendous spirit. Rayado specifically allowed Annie the chance to experience a zen state of mental stimulation via surrendering control to the unknown and unexpected.  All together, her time spent as a Philmont participant, prepared her for her time on staff in 2018 as a TSI crew member (originally hired as PC Beaubien), 2021 PC Metcalf, and in the fall of 2021 she worked and lived at Fish Camp on Cabin Restoration.  Today Annie is an avid climber, artist, and loves spending time with her family and friends who are like family.  Her brother Sam is her biggest mentor and together they close this episode with a special tune for you all.   Philmont Experience:PTC - participant as a youth2013 - Mountain Trek2015 - ROCS2016 - Rayado2018 - PC Beaubien / TSI2020 - Metcalf station - Covid2021- PC Metcalf Station Fall 2021 - Cabin RestorationNotable Mentions:Sam and Whitney AndersonLloyd KunutzenClaire FickeEllyn WashburneCarson McraeLottice TaylorBonnieMaggie NeilTim CollverSupport the show

Episode 20: Tips on Employee Time-Off Requests, Part Two of Two  Hey, everyone!  Welcome back to another episode of Leaving The Nest.  I'm your host, Kathleen Pellegrino from ROCS Grad Staffing. Our mission is to help you find a job out of college and thrive in the real world.  This is Part 2 of the Time-Off Requests mini-series. In the first episode, we spoke primarily about when to take time off, how to take it, making sure you know who to talk to, and general best practices. For this episode, we are going to assume you've been given the green light to take time off and I want to make sure you're setting yourself and your team up for success so you can enjoy your time away. Don't forget to share this episode with others you know who are just starting out in their careers —you might be able to coordinate your time-off requests together!  (Just don't forget to put that time on your calendars!) Enjoy! In This Episode: [1:14] – Kathleen shares a funny little thought she's been having and wants to pick our brains. [3:13] – This is what we should do as soon as we start planning to take time off. [4:35] – Everyone is a little different with their time-off requests. [5:30] – Taking a week off is very different than taking a Friday off for a long weekend. [7:12] – Generally, it's good to have a document that has a list of all job responsibilities and who to call for follow-up while we're out. [9:07] – What is an out-of-office reply and what should go in it? [11:37] – Kathleen shares what happened when she put her personal contact info in her out-of-office reply. [13:56] – Make sure the dates, contact info, and subject line are all correct. [14:55] – This is the mistake that recent college grads tend to make as it applies to out-of-office voice messages. [15:59] – What do we do when our vacation is over and it's back to our work-life reality? [18:13] – Kathleen reminds us to allocate time to catch up with colleagues, catch up with what came in while we were out, and tackle our normal workload. [19:04] – Here's how to earn extra brownie points with the office when you get back from vacation. [20:42] – Kathleen gives her final thoughts on taking time off. Phyllis Newhouse has quite the resume. She is the first African American woman to lead a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC), the first woman ever to win the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of the Year award in the technology category, she's on the board of the Women's Presidents Organization and is a pioneer in business. She is a retired senior military officer, a CEO, an investor and serial entrepreneur. Phyllis also happens to be a “frientor” to Amy Jo (a friend and mentor). Phyllis is changing the game and rewriting the business play book, especially for women. One way she does this is with “ROCs,” which stands for Resources, Opportunities and Connections. Phyllis generously gives these out all day every day. Amy Jo has personally been a beneficiary, as Phyllis has opened many doors for her. In this wide-ranging conversation, Amy Jo and Phyllis talk about business, their relationship with money, how Phyllis looks at wealth versus revenue, and how Phyllis' power always enters the room before she does. Phyllis also shares the impactful story about how she met Serena Williams and what has happened after that meeting. We could all take a page from this playbook. Phyllis supports women and fosters community so well. She recently just launched a program called Shoulder Up To Lead where she shares her 11 Principles of Leadership.
