It's Monday, March 3rd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 40 Uyghur Muslim men deported from Thailand to China A group of 40 Uyghur Muslim men detained in Thailand for more than a decade were deported to China in the early hours of February 27th, reports Christian Solidarity Worldwide. Romadon Panjor, a Thai Member of Parliament, reported witnessing two sets of vehicles with covered windows transporting detainees from the International Detention Centre in Suan Phlu, Bangkok. The 40 men were among a group of approximately 300 Uyghurs who were detained by Thai authorities on March 13, 2014 after crossing the border into Thailand in an attempt to escape persecution in China. Family Research Council has documented that China is detaining 1.8-3 million Uyghur Muslims in Internment Camps. Mexico extradites dozens of cartel leaders to US Mexico has begun the process of extraditing dozens of high-level cartel leaders and members to the United States, including Rafael Caro Quintero, a former leader of the Guadalajara cartel involved in the kidnapping and murder of Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena in 1985, reports FoxNews. The founders of Los Zetas, Miguel and Omar Morales, also known as Z-40 and Z-42, will be extradited to the U.S. as well. The extraditions were done at the request of the U.S. government as President Donald Trump's tariff deadline looms. One of the president's demands is for Mexico to crack down on dangerous cartels and fentanyl production and distribution. Psalm 37:28 says, “For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his faithful ones.” Pope Francis's health declining Pope Francis' health took a sudden decline today after he had an attack of “bronchospasm” resulting in his inhalation of vomit from the attack, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Trump and Vance confront Zelenskyy in Oval Office President Donald Trump berated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for being “disrespectful” Friday in an extraordinary Oval Office meeting, then abruptly called off the signing of a minerals deal that Trump said would have moved Ukraine closer to ending its war with Russia, reports the Associated Press. Here's the key moment as Zelensky is explaining how Russian President Vladimir Putin did not keep his word. ZELENSKYY:  “[Putin] killed our people, and he didn't exchange prisoners. We signed the exchange of prisoners, but he didn't do it. What kind of diplomacy, J.D., you are speaking about? What do you mean?” VANCE: “I'm talking about the kind of diplomacy that's going to end the destruction of your country.” ZELENSKYY: (inaudible) “Yes, but …” VANCE: “Mr. President, Mr. President, with respect. I think it's disrespectful for you to come to the Oval Office and try to try to litigate this in front of the American media. Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the president for trying to bring an end to this conflict.” ZELENSKYY: “Have you ever been to Ukraine that you say what problems we have?” VANCE: “I have been to...” ZELENSKYY: “You have come once.” VANCE: “I have actually, I've actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens is you bring people. You bring them on a propaganda tour, Mr. President. Do you disagree that you've had problems bringing people in your military?” ZELENSKY: “We have problems.” VANCE: “And do you think.” ZELENSKYY: “I will answer.” VANCE: “that it's respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack the administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your country?” ZELENSKY: “A lot of questions. Let's start from the beginning.” VANCE: “Sure.” ZELENSKYY: “First of all, during the war, everybody has problems, even you. But you have nice ocean and don't feel now, but you will feel it in the future.” TRUMP: “You don't know that. Don't tell us what we're gonna feel. We're trying to solve a problem. Don't tell us what we're gonna feel.” ZELENSKYY: “I'm not telling you. I'm answering all his questions.” TRUMP: “because you're no position to dictate that exactly.” TRUMP: “You're in no position to dictate what we're going to feel. We're going to feel very good.” ZELENSKYY: “You will feel influenced.” TRUMP: “We're going to feel very good and very strong.” ZELENSKYY: “You will feel influenced.” TRUMP: “You're right now not in a very good position. You don't have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards.” ZELENSKY: “I'm not playing cards. I'm very serious, Mr. President.” TRUMP: “You're playing cards. You're gambling with the lives of millions of people. You're gambling with World War Three!” Social Security announces significant workforce reductions The Social Security Administration is set to lay off a large number of employees, with workers being offered incentives of up to $25,000 for voluntary separation, reports The Epoch Times. Heart disease could be prevented with this one simple test After abortion, heart disease is the second leading cause of mortality. But that doesn't mean people are powerless against the condition — there are some steps they can take to help reduce the risk. In addition to adopting healthier lifestyle habits, getting a specific screening — the coronary artery calcium or CAC score — can help detect early signs of heart disease, reports Fox News. The CAC score is a specialized Computed Tomography or CT scan that measures calcium buildup in the walls of the heart's arteries, according to board-certified cardiologist Dr. Robert Segal, founder of Manhattan Cardiology. He said, "This calcium points to the accumulation of plaque that can cause heart disease." The higher the score, the more calcium in the arteries, thus a greater likelihood of a heart attack, stroke or other cardiac issue.  In 1 Corinthians 6:19, the Apostle Paul asks, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”  New abortion battle opening up over state shield laws And finally, the national abortion battle is moving to a new front, and it's one that stretches across state lines, reports The Epoch Times. A telemedicine abortion provider in New York has thrust the state's abortion shield law into the spotlight, setting the stage for an unprecedented state-against-state clash on one of the nation's most divisive issues. Abortionist Maggie Carpenter of New Paltz, New York, was fined in Texas and charged in Louisiana for providing abortion kill pills to patients in the two states, where the procedure is all but banned. Judge Bryan Gantt of Collin County, Texas, ordered Carpenter to pay $100,000 in penalties, plus attorney's fees, for prescribing the abortion kill pill to a woman near Dallas in violation of Texas law. He also barred the doctor from prescribing abortion medication to future Texas patients. The February 13th ruling was made just two days after Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed a warrant for Carpenter's arrest and extradition to his state to stand trial for allegedly prescribing abortion kill pills to a pregnant minor. Fredrik talks to Dejan Milicic about software development - understanding, methods, and stories. We start by talking about encapsulation of knowledge and the essential software in organizations. Almost every organization should - it can be argued - be developing software that solves their unique problems, and yet so many outsource so much of their knowledge encapsulation. Oh, and we can never completely encapsulate our knowledge in code either, so all the more reason to keep people who actually know what the code does and why around. Dejan tells us about his way to Ravendb and a developer relations role - and how you can craft your own job, stepping suitably outside of your comfort zone along the way. We also talk about shortening attention spans, daring to dig down a bit and find out about the context of things. Like the second sentence of some oft-repeated quote. Prohibit bad things, but help automate doing good things and avoid doing the bad things completely. Dejan shares some database backstories - why would someone want to build one more database? Specifically, what lead to the creation of Ravendb? And the very strong opinions which have been built into it. Avoiding falling into marketing-driven development. After that, we drift into talking about processes and how we work. Every organization is unique - which strongly speaks against adapting the “best practices” and methodologies of others. Or keeping things completely the same for too long. Innovation is also about doing what other people are not doing. Why is concurrency still hard? The free lunch has been over for twenty years! Functional programming and immutability offer ways forward, why aren't these concepts spreading even more and faster? We get right back to understanding more context when Dejan discusses how few of us seem to have understood, just for example, the L in SOLID. Dive deeper, read more, and you will find new things and come up with new ideas. Finally, Dejan would like to see software development becoming just a little bit more mathematical. So that things can be established, verified and built on in a different way. Thank you Cloudnet for sponsoring our VPS! Comments, questions or tips? Joined by Eilon, CEO of WINT Water Intelligence, the conversation explores how IoT technology, AI, and data-driven insights transform water management in construction, facilities, and industries like food and beverage. Show Highlights: The Hidden Costs of Water Waste Eilon sheds light on the startling statistic: 25% of water in commercial buildings is wasted. Beyond the environmental implications, this inefficiency carries significant financial and operational costs. WINT's technology aims to tackle these issues with real-time monitoring and actionable intelligence, helping companies save water and money while achieving their ESG goals. How the Technology Works WINT uses IoT sensors to monitor water flow at high resolution. The system learns typical water usage patterns over time, identifying anomalies like leaks, misconfigured equipment, or burst pipes. Key capabilities include: Real-time monitoring: Continuous analysis of water flow for early detection of abnormalities. Automatic shutoff: Systems can close valves to prevent extensive damage. Actionable insights: Alerts and analytics help users understand and address inefficiencies. From Construction to Operation: WINT's solutions support the entire building lifecycle, from construction to operation. By involving key stakeholders - such as contractors, insurers, and building owners - during the design phase, the system can be tailored for maximum impact. Helps meet insurance requirements by mitigating water-related risks. Reduces delays caused by water damage. Optimizes water use and addresses leaks proactively. Supports ESG reporting with comprehensive data on water usage and carbon footprints. Real-World Impact Eilon highlighted WINT's success across industries, noting their systems have: Reduced water waste by 27% on average, with some facilities achieving savings of up to 80%. Prevented millions in water damage by identifying and addressing leaks before they escalated. Looking Ahead: Data-Driven Sustainability The future of water management lies in data and integration. WINT is focusing on: Enhancing predictive capabilities using AI and machine learning. Integrating with ESG platforms to provide seamless reporting. Offering tools for benchmarking and comparing water efficiency across multiple facilities. The damage done by endless wars and astronomical government spending may be at the point where economic catastrophe is unavoidable. However, life is far too complex, with far too many variables and unknowns to say for sure. With that being the case, there are certainly steps that the incoming Trump Administration can take to reverse course. The resistance to what is necessary will certainly be intense. But the immense damage can (at least) be repaired.

Interviewer: MATTHEW ROTH. In theory, the US Constitution established a system by which the three branches of government keep each other in check. Political scientist and constitutional scholar COREY BRETTSCHNEIDER argues that, in fact, it has more often been citizen pressure – not the courts or the legislature – that has rescued us from the anti-democratic exercise of presidential power. In his discussion with historian Matthew Roth, he describes how the core democratic principles of the Constitution, beginning with the opening phrase of the preamble, have inspired citizens to oppose autocratic presidents from John Adams to Richard Nixon and to push against the disastrously exclusionary racial politics of James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, and Woodrow Wilson. In doing so, they have often interpreted the constitution in ways that put them at odds with learned members of the judiciary. Brettschneider suggests that we might learn from their examples to recover fully from the first (and now second) Trump administration. Brettschneider is author of the new book, The Presidents and the People: Five Leaders Who Threatened Democracy and the Citizens Who Fought to Defend It. *Note: This podcast was recorded in October of 2024, prior to the most recent presidential election.
