So much swirling around the world wide web and social media and I just had ENOUGH! I thought so much about how I felt while I was married, when I decided to separate, when I decided to go public, to speak my truth, and how it was received. I thought about how I felt throughout the process of it all. I thought about the things people said directly to me, behind my back, or thought but never said aloud. I think about how hard it is to be a goddamn WOMAN! How HARD it is for US to speak OUR truths and how men can go public, write books and talk all about their wild lives, how they cheated on their wives, or were a shark in their field to get ahead and how they are PRAISED for their authenticity and yet the moment that a woman tells HER STORY, HER TRUTH, she becomes the laughing stock of the internet. The woman who is EMBARRASSING her husband and I have some shit to get off my chest! Let's talk for a minute about…love. Let's talk about not allowing past relationships, hurt, pain, keep us in a place where we're afraid to move forward with our lives or cut ourselves off in love. Let's talk about taking back our power, fighting for ourselves just as hard as we fight for those who love the chase. Trauma bonding happens when an abuser uses manipulation tactics and cycles of abuse to make the victim feel dependent on them for care and validation, causing a strong attachment or bond. This often occurs in romantic narcissistic relationships, but can also occur in families, friendships, or work relationships. -Erica Laub This topic needed more than one episode because it's such a heavy topic that so many of us are dealing with and so, this episode is all about recognizing the signs of trauma bonding. As I was posting this to my story, I was thinking I should totally be dropping bombass Playlists to accompany my episodes!!! Listen, I know I'm not the only one who has been struggling to get her shit together over these past couple of weeks! Getting the most basic tasks done lately has been so hard and I've just been in a funk that I am dying to get out of! On this week's episode, I identified a few key areas of my life that needed improvement and then offered up tips for myself to use! LOL! Of course I HIGHLY encourage you to do the same! First, identify where you are lacking and/or what needs you have that are not being met. Then, forgive yourself for being where you currently are or in other words, show yourself some GRACE! Up next, come up with SOLUTIONS to your issues, and last but not least, put those babies into practice! And the FINAL step, checking in with yourself periodically to track your progress/growth! I think we can all admit now that burnout is a part of the process of being an adult, we all experience it at one point or another and that's okay. What's not okay is bonding with our traumas and issues. As we close out this year, I want to be sure to tie up any lose ends that I do not want following me in 2022. Some say that in America, black people don't have a culture. Some say that all other races appropriate black-American culture but they both cannot be true. We in fact do have a very rich culture here in America. Monday-Friday, 3-5pm EST, Farajii Muhammad discusses the culture on Roland Martin's Black Star Network. This week we have him joining us to discuss a recent analysis from none other than Shannon Sharpe of the Undisputed football show, where he discusses the importance of people in the black community correcting one another. ONE month down, ELEVEN months to go! Whether you're feeling accomplished or unaccomplished, KEEP GOING! Transparent moment, this month, this YEAR has started off rough asf! But you know what, when I looked back at my "Work in Progress" planner, I realized that I've actually been working so hard this month! Sometimes we're so busy doing the behind the scenes work, the grunt work that we don't realize how much we're actually growing! I'm encouraging each of the queens and kings who check into the show to purchase a calendar for themselves. Keep track of your progress, strive to be consistent but also show yourself some grace. It was through me looking back at my planner for the month of January that brightened my mood. While I may not have hit the year running in the way that I thought I was, I was completing foundational work and didn't realize it. Whether you're the "ghoster" or the "ghostee", you're both going to be left with scars from the "Ghosting Era". Realized that I'm tired of living in the shadow of other people's expectations of me. Constantly asking myself the question, which version of me do I need to be? When in reality, I was left feeling like the different versions of myself were in competition with one another instead of accepting myself as a whole being. I am not one thing. I am not smart over sexy nor sexy over smart, I am both with so many other amazing qualities added to that list. The promise I am making to myself and that I am encouraging all queens and kings to do is to love every side of yourself.
