A little change up on this week's episode of the Seth Adam Podcast... I didn't have a guest lined up for this week, and in the interest of continuity, keeping up a one show per week for 2024 (as close to it as possible), I fielded questions on Facebook to answer on the episode. Instead, my friend Frank Critelli suggested that I be the guest, and he be the guest host! I thought it was a great idea and a lot of fun. Gerry Giaimo and I have a long friendship, dating back to 2004. We were in Green Inside (our former band) together. He was the guitar player in "Seth Adam" when we were doing more frequent band and duo gigs. Though we don't play together as much anymore, our friendship remains. We will hopefully begin working on a super secret project later this year. In the meantime, please enjoy this longer-than-usual conversation! You can get Gerry's thoughts on things from the Rolling Stones, to music snobbery, to his prediction and reflections on what will happen in the pending 14th Amendment case. And we're back after a few weeks off! This week we sit down to talk with Zach Andersen. By the time you get to the end of this sentence, he's probably written another song. He's THAT prolific. Zach has his own niche in songwriting. That is, he writes songs based on video games. But that's not all! He writes kids songs, too! Have a listen and find out all about Zach Andersen!
Jon Peckman, host of the Jon Peckman Podcast, is a drummer, instructor, and dare I say music historian... maybe a little bit. He's a stand-up guy with great insights, humor, and stories. Like all the interviews I do, I enjoyed this one so much. It was great to catch up with Jon and talk with him about a life in music and how sometimes you have to make hard decisions to stay happy.Â
Jennifer Dauphinais - a.k.a., Ponybird - is an artist/singer-songwriter/educator and more from CT. We talked about her new album Deep Meats I, her life in music, current deficiencies in education, coffee, and more! She's doing some really great stuff, including promoting her new record and getting songs together for Deep Meats II! But first, there are live shows to play and classes to teach. Listen up, y'all... this is a great conversation!
Dustin Sclafani is a cat that I think of as a man about town. He's an incredible supporter of the New Haven music scene, as well as a contributor with his band, Shame Penquin. Dustin's story runs deep, beginning in Long Island and eventually making his way across the sound to his current home of New Haven, with all sorts of humbling experiences in between. He's a wonderful, smart human being. Enjoy!
Greg Sherrod (of the Greg Sherrod Music Company) - Wow, this was a fun interview! This one was loose, off the cuff, real... We talked about drinking and drugs, the music business, racism, and a whole bunch of other stuff in between. Greg is a solid, down-to-earth guy, who just happened to be my vocal coach for a few years. This man lives and breathes music. Give it a go!
Follow Pete on Twitter - Well, this is a big one... a long one... HEY! Get your mind out of the gutter! It's a big deal and long podcast! Pete and I go WAY back... to our first band - CODA - that kinda, sorta was, but really wasn't. We've been friends for more years than either of us care to admit. He's been very busy with his fantastic band - LESS THAN JAKE - for the past 20+ years. We talk about Less Than Jake, the old days, musical accomplishments in a conservative town, and the music industry today - among a whole bunch of other things. This was a fun one! Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
MasterMindRoad.com - Melissa Mulligan is a longtime friend. We've known each other SO long, she actually had to remind me of how we met, how we got to know each other. After we got that out of the way, we talked about her amazing new venture, Music Career Mastermind (see link in the beginning). Along with her team of professionals, she's doing some amazing work helping folks navigate careers in music. Check it out and spread the word!
RWMguitars.com - Ron Mason is a CT-based guitar maker. He builds custom guitars made from reclaimed and locally sourced wood. His makes are beautiful, characterized by the time and care evident of a fine craftsman. We talked about how he got started making guitars, where he sources his wood, and what sets him apart from the big corporate guitar makers. If you're into guitars, then check out this interview!
Steve Mednick is a New Haven CT - based lawyer, singer-songwriter, and history aficionado... at least that's my take! He is a charming, interesting man with stories galore. He's a prolific songwriter with nearly 20 albums to his credit. I talked with Steve about his passion for law and democracy, as well as his love of music, and how politics and music can sometimes intertwine. This interview was a real treat for me! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Season 3 Episode 1 - Well, it's been a while and I'm back. As explained in the podcast, I wanted to start season 3 last year, but things got in the way... namely catching up from falling behind due to COVID. My wife, Jenna, and I recall the early days of the pandemic, how we didn't get too much on each others' nerves, and how the silver lining was that a worldwide pandemic brought our family closer together.Â
For this episode, I interviewed Tracy Walton - singer/songwriter, bassist, guitarist, drummer, and owner/producer/engineer at On Deck studios. Man, that's a lot of titles! Tracy's always juggling projects. Find out all about them!Facebook.com/tracywaltonmusicOnDeckSound.com
Frank Critelli is the best. I love this dude so much. We've been in each other's orbit for I don't know how many years... Singer/Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and house concert host (among other things) Daphne Lee Martin, has been a shining star in the Connecticut music scene for years. For this episode, I talk with prolific singer/songwriter (and painter... and author... and creator... and handsome...) Paul Belbusti of Mercy Choir. He has a new record coming out called "Upturned In Everest," dropping on August 16th on Dead Language records. We talk about influences, hair metal, the vacation the creative brain takes, and of course - the new record. Paul is a dear friend and a great guy. He's also one heck of a songwriter. I hope you enjoy this one!
Jeff Burnham is a singer/songwriter from Northern Connecticut. We met a few years ago at a show I was playing at. After he dropped off his CD to me, and I took a listen, I offered to play drums for his band. The rest is - as they say - history. This dude is one of the best - genuine, honest, intelligent, and talented. I hope you enjoy this interview!
Well, if you know anything about the Connecticut music scene, then you know Chip McCabe. He's an author, a radio show host (The Metal Dad and Wrong Side Of The Tracks shows at CygnusRadio.com), coordinator/programmer for the lunchtime music series in Hartford CT during the summer, and the coordinator/programmer for the music at the Glastonbury Apple Harvest and Music Festival. Did I miss anything? He's a connoisseur of music and knows his stuff. I hope you enjoy this one. I sure did!
Justin Elicker is a candidate for mayor of New Haven CT, running on the Democratic ticket. He's got fresh ideas about a new direction for New Haven as well as a long history of serving the public. I was very enthusiastic about this interview, because I believe he's got some great strategies to help current and future residents thrive in this city. There was much more we could have discussed, but this is a solid survey of questions about issues facing New Haven and Justin's plans to address those issues. Enjoy!
Karen Ponzio is a freelance writer for the New Haven Independent, covering New Haven's vibrant music scene. She is also a literary enthusiast, writer of stories and poems, an open mic host at Best Video in Hamden CT and New England Brewing Co. in Woodbridge CT, a mother of two wonderful sons, and artist. Listen to this episode and find out all about Karen, one of New Haven's finest contributors.
It was a pleasure to discuss some "behind the scenes" music stuff with Aim D'Amaro from A.I.M. Productions for this week's podcast. Aim has been a huge supporter of the CT music scene over the past 10+ years, most notably as the organizer of the annual Locapalooza festival - now entering its fifth year. We also discuss her production company, A.I.M. Productions, which offers booking services and more for CT artists and venues.
This week's scheduled guest had to reschedule. Jenna did me a huge solid by letting me interview her - last minute - about her New Haven CT based business, The Hive Hair Studio. Jenna also happens to be my wife. I thought it might be awkward, trying to interview someone I already know, but it went really well and I even learned a few things that I didn't know (I love it when that happens). Enjoy!
This week I interviewed singer-songwriter, photographer, troubadour, dad, and seeker, Brian Dolzani. I was stoked to have a conversation with Brian about his travels, his latest record, "Horse," photography, and some of his history. He's a great guy, a great creative, and I think everyone needs to go out and buy his records. Enjoy!
In episode 3, I sat down with Liz and Gil from New Haven's own synth-pop duo, Falconeer! They are making some amazing creative music with 8-bit electronic sounds - reminiscent of vintage video game music, fine vocals, and a stage show you'd probably be paying a lot of money to see in an arena. We get to take a listen to their latest single in this episode, too! Enjoy!
I love helping out friends, especially friends that are starting new businesses. This week we find out about Val McKee - musician, writer, professor, dancer, mom, and now proprietor of The Town Tart in Hamden CT - Greater New Haven's made-to-order pie shop, with coffee, ice cream floats, and of course, pie!
In the inaugural episode of the Seth Adam Podcast, I sat down with Steve Rodgers - singer/songwriter, artist, and more - to talk about his forthcoming album, "Count It All Joy," his history, and jumping back into the music scene with renewed spirit and vitality.
