A quick heads up that I'm already hard at work on next weeks show. I'm going to be away most of next weekend, so I'm trying to get everything done ahead of time. Fingers crossed that I can get everything done on time (and its looking good) and I can just get home on Sunday evening and hit "Publish". Its been a good week though, having the extra time to myself meant I could listen to more music. While I can do that while working, I'll "lose" time where my attention is 100% on work, and then have to figure out how far back to go to restart. I just wish the weather had been better. I quite enjoy sitting on my balcony with my headphones. Still too windy. Still too rainy. A gray overcast day makes sense while we in Canada celebrate our ever increasingly anarchonistic holiday "Victoria Day". Traditionally this is known as the May two four weekend. Two four being common slang for a case of beer. While I don't really drink anymore, I'll be going out to resupply my stock of Root Beer, as I seem to have slightly regressed a bit back into childhood.

Managed to get some cycling in this weekend, so I get to spend Sunday morning lamenting the lack of exercise I've done in the past few months and get RSA complete! I'm going to take another week off some time in July as I take a vacation of some sort, but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it. A happy Mother's day to those that celebrate at this time of year. I always make sure to call my Mom if I can't visit. I mean, she's on the membership Friends of RSA! Took a week off last week to get some stuff sorted out. Should called it a vacation weekend, but the fact is when your folks are gone for half the year that when they come back we make a point of visiting. I tried to sit down and finish the show last week, but I was burnt out. *I* sounded like hell, so I scrapped it and took a week off. Its better to recharge the batteries a bit than put out something substandard. I tried to let everyone know, but with the enshittification of social media, its hard to get the word out. Welcome back to another exciting week of electronic music! Its the Easter weekend in Canada, and I have a 4 day weekend, so obviously on day 3 I'm finishing off the show. Gotta procrastinate as much as possible! I have a couple of packages to drop in the mail this week, my call out to everyone "Are you missing a prize?" did get some responses. I am quite glad that I didn't miss anyones name from the 2025 membership drive list. This week is a little synthpoppier than usual, but like I've always said, this is a big tent. This week I'm actually getting the show done early so that I can get out on my bicycle today! Lets see how far I get today without collapsing, gasping for air. I can feel that I haven't done any significant excercise since the late fall. But I'm cycling out to have a late lunch, so Sushi is my motivator! This week we delve into some great new releases and put a few discs to bed. I guess I'm going to have to think of another long theme show. I keep getting requests, so maybe a nice mid spring treat in May? We're now officially into spring, and its safe for me to leave the house without freezing. Which means that RSA will slide into its summer schedule and the show will most likely be posted late on Sundays as I get chores done. The exciting life of an internet DJ! Its thoroughly "Great Britain" outside this weekend, only with the extra Canadian advantage of getting freezing rain overnight to make today a skating rink. Apparently. I did all of my errands yesterday so I wouldn't have to go out in this weather! All of teh US and Canadian packages for the membership drive have been delivered, and it looks like Overseas will be arriving next week! Pop! podcast for your lovely ears.On this week's show Steve and Gaz add another few genres to their ever growing Mount Rushmore of TCP, with four artists representing Shoegaze, Disco and Synth Pop all being debated, discussed and stuck on the mountain. There's also a chat about The 1975's Matty Healy having quite excellent taste in OG emo, a review of the recent Sex Pistols and Frank Carter show at The Royal Albert Hall and a lost hit from 90's pop-punk cold-have-beens Symposium.

All of the membership drive prizes are officially in the post and making their way to you. Apparently there was a delay at the Niagara Falls bridge taking stuff over to the USA. But USA packages should arrive in the next couple of days, and overseas will probably be another week or so. It's never too late for a 2024 recap, right? In today's super-sized episode, Bob, Mark, Carla and Brad discuss their favorite new songs of 2024 and songs they rediscovered last year. Well...three of the four of us followed this plan. One of us interpreted this theme a bit differently. Will there be controversy over Pearl Jam? Will Mark recover after hearing a Human League album was rated and reviewed higher than the Cure's Disintegration? Did Brad find a song from 2024 that he actually liked? Listen and find out. Find the Playlist on Spotify + Apple Music and your Extras on Twitter and Instagram. If you like what you hear, please share, rate and review us!Credits: Intro/ Outro — the Februarys, "Does Your Father Know"/ "... In a Letter."
We're not content to just talk about great synth-pop albums of the pivotal year of 1980...we wanted to share the discussion with musicians who created one of the great synth-pop albums of 1980! The album, you ask? Party In The War Zone by L.A. band Vivabeat, and we were fortunate enough to have bassist/songwriter Mick Muhlfriedel and keyboardist/vocalist Marina Muhlfriedel joining us. This surely must be one of the most remarkable stories we've heard of living on the precipice of the big time. They had the hooks and the looks. They were discovered by Peter Gabriel (who was inspired by the whistling hook in the band's "Man From China" to write "Games Without Frontiers) and signed to Charisma. Their song "The House Is Burning (But There's No One Home)" was prominently featured in the film Body Double, and the music video subsequently won an MTV Video Award. Their second incarnation included former Japan guitarist Rob Dean, contributing to their standing as the opening act to bands like Depeche Mode and Gary Numan. However, a series of unfortunate events and unscrupulous managers limited Vivabeat's shelf life. Fortunately, in 2024, Rubellan Remasters (www.rubellanremasters.com) re-issued Party In The War Zone on CD for the first time, as well as the vinyl-only compilation The House Is Burning: The Best of Vivabeat 1979-86. Mick Muhlfriedel went on to work on scores for films such as Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, and is currently the President of the wonderful youth organization Downtown LA Soccer Club. Marina Muhlfriedel also got into the film industry, starting as a Production Assistant for Danny DeVito, eventually getting a Producer credit on movies like Throw Momma From The Train. She is a highly experienced storyteller, writer, and producer, who is currently working on her memoir. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The 2025 membership drive is upon us! http://www.synthetic.org/membership.php Yes, we take the month of February to plug what would be called our Patreon. Help keep RSA going another year by considering visiting the Membership page. Everyone who donates will get something in the mail from me, even if its just a card saying thanks!
