Send us a textToday, you get to choose, what are you going to focus on? It's very easy and natural for us to want something different – if I could just go back to the past, or if it could just get to the future already. For years we just wanted to get older, and now, if we could only be young again… It's ok to have those reactions. Honor wherever you are and however you feel, but let go of that and instead choose to focus on how you want to see the situation. In my special birthday episode, we have a conversation about aging. Because chronological age is such a poor predictor of age and the actual aging process, researchers have developed A LOT of alternative non-chronological age measures: Age Identity, Contextual Age, Subjective Age... All of this research allows us to develop 10 keys to being ageless - not young - just ageless. Today, I choose to focus on how I feel and on what I'm doing and accomplishing. I choose to focus on the context of my life. Thank you for listening and being part of this community! Let's get social. By redefining our relationship with age, we can cultivate a sense of timelessness and vitality at any stage of life. We'll discuss nine keys to staying ageless, including: what you put in your body, what you do with your body and what you put on your body; staying open to new ideas; challenging your brain and yourself; continuing to set goals and manifest success; doing things that make you happy; reducing stress and anxiety; building and fostering quality social relationships; and communicate.Discover the power of contextual age in shaping our identity, relationships, and overall quality of life. While I'm currently in my healing era, it's the perfect time to revisit powerful topics that never lose their relevance—like senioritis. This time last year, I was right where many of you are now—parenting a high school senior navigating the emotional rollercoaster of their final year. Senioritis is often brushed off as laziness or apathy, but it's actually a complex emotional and psychological shift that affects both students and families. From sudden lack of motivation and irritability to feelings of disconnection and overwhelm, the final stretch before graduation can stir up tension in even the most grounded households. In this episode, we explore the real reasons behind senioritis—from cognitive dissonance and fear of the unknown to the need for control and autonomy. You'll learn how to recognize emotional behaviors like "soiling the nest"—where teens unconsciously create conflict to make separation easier—and discover practical ways to guide your senior through this transitional period. Whether it's encouraging new hobbies, life skills, or part-time jobs, there are meaningful ways to reframe this season of change. If you're parenting a teen preparing for college, experiencing senior year stress, or simply trying to maintain peace during this major life shift, this episode is for you.Let's embrace the chaos, find clarity, and walk this path with grace—together.Thank you for listening and being part of this community! Last year and the next TWO years, I am back ON!) about the loss we feel when our kids' sports or activities end, whether its because they've lost interest or didn't make the team or, as many of us face senior year, they finish their final season. But we aren't the only ones who will feel the end because obviously, the kids will feel it even more than we do,. So Re: That – I wanted to UPCYCLE our earlier episode to continue our conversation into life after sports or what comes next - what can we expect from our teen athletes post sports, and how you can help them find their identities.Thank you for listening and being part of this community! Send us a textIt is that time of year again! A whole new batch of seniors (and senior parents!) finishing up the sports/activities that have consumed their (our!) lives, time, energy, and money. Afterwords years of finding ourselves on the sideline or in the stands or seats watching day after day, week after week, year after year, this is the point when it all ends. For many, senior year is that end. But for some, it happens sooner, whether they don't make the team or grow out of love with the sport or activity and just decide they are done – but wait! You might say – but what if I'm not done? It's the end of a chapter. There is a loss – a sense of grief – it's the loss of an activity – of a group of people you've grown to feel a community with – the loss of something that you share with your child. It's ok to feel sad. It's ok for us to look back and reflect. It just won't be the same. And it's ok to mourn that end – mourn the loss. We may feel an ambiguous loss. At its core, ambiguous loss is about a lack of resolution. The loss of what could have or should have been. The loss of someone or something as it was. Thank you for listening and being part of this community! Let's get social. Life has a way of surrounding us with things we once loved—whether it's treasured belongings, relationships, or even past versions of ourselves. But as we grow and change, so do our needs and priorities. In this episode, I'm reflecting on what it means to Upcycle Love. It's not just about letting go of items that no longer serve us, but about giving them new life and purpose in someone else's hands. As I prepared to evacuate for Hurricane Milton, I found myself going through my home and reevaluating what really mattered. It was eye-opening to realize how much I was holding on to things that no longer carried the same emotional weight. This process felt like more than just preparing for a storm—it became a lesson in releasing the old to make space for something new. On this Wise Walk, we'll slow down and reflect on how this idea of upcycling applies to all areas of life—our relationships, our emotional well-being, and the way we move forward. Let's explore how letting go can open the door to fresh energy and allow love, in all its forms, to flow back into our lives in unexpected and beautiful ways.  Are there things in your life that you are ready to let go of that perhaps in your past held this strong love or energetic and emotional connection? Are there things that don't feel that high vibrational factor anymore? What areas in your life are overshadowed by excess? Have you lost sight of what truly brings you joy because items have multiplied? Does life feel heavier because you're holding on to too much? Can you envision feeling lighter by releasing and upcycling those items with love? What in your life are you ready to release so someone else can see its value increase with fresh new eyes? What are you willing to let go of and trust that something new will be born in its place? Can you let go of something and allow someone else to appreciate and cherish it as you once did? Where can you let go of the old version of a relationship to allow it to transform or make space for someone new? Where can you upcycle your relationships to stay fueled by high vibrational people? I'm incredibly grateful for the support of my community and the way we've come together during this time. As we head into the holiday season, I'm excited to release items and relationships that no longer serve me, trusting they will bring new energy and transformation into my life.  I hope you, too, embrace this mindset of letting go and making space for surprises and new connections. As always, thank you for your support. I look forward to our next Wise Walk together. Until then, prioritize fun as you read the signs, direct your path and get your stride on.   In this episode: [05:19] I was sharing with a friend who was also a grandmother, and she said the same thing. She had 50 plants that she once loved but now she was going to choose 10. [06:11] We had to take everything that was outside and secure it. [07:44] What a gift to upcycle items that someone else can now love. [08:36] It feels good to release things that no longer bring us joy. Now is the time to donate and give things an opportunity to find a new loving home. [09:36] It's the season when people may be looking for donated toys or other items to help with the holidays. [10:34] Give love to the idea of new people being able to appreciate what you once loved. [11:52] The quality of older items is often better.  [12:44] It's important for us to be able to release and upcycle whatever is coming into our life. [13:53] There are a million ways to upcycle things in our lives. [15:04] When we let go of what something was, we can trust the opportunity that something new is born. This holds true for relationships also.   Memorable Quotes: "Upcycling isn't just about physical things—it's about relationships and emotional connections. Letting go creates space for new energy to flow into our lives." - Mary Tess "In moments where you're making quick decisions, you get clarity on what truly matters. The things I thought I would hold on to no longer had that high vibrational factor." - Mary Tess "As we approach the holiday season, what a gift it is to release things and let them find a new home where they will bring joy to someone else." - Mary Tess   Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value

Kaitlyn Murray has been care-taking her brand, la vie apres l'amour, a sustainable fashion organization since 2017. Born and raised in Red Hook, NY, she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology and went on to work at Hermes in customer service and merchandising. Her life long love affair with thrifting and her studies in sustainability led her to leave Hermes and open her own line of clothing and eventually a physical shop in the Rondout of Kingston which is many things including her studio, a retails space, an events space, and a community hang out where she's hosted mending nights, community dinners, a vinyl dj event, artist talks, a clothing swap, a clay building workshop, and recently a floral arranging day.In addition to tending to her store, she created Hudson Valley Sustainable Fashion Week in 2023. She hosted several events and produced and showed in the first ever HV Sustainable runway show on Rose Hill Farm in Red Hook. It was a collective show, showcasing 7 HV sustainable designers and 4 recent alumni from the Marist Fashion Program. It was a dream and the goal was to highlight designers doing this work in the area and make them known to the public.Today Kaitlyn shares her journey into fashion and how it shifted over the years, making the leap into its current iteration. We learn about her brand, much of what her line consists of and her process. She educates us about the impact of the fashion industry on both the people charged with making it and the many ways the production of new clothes extracts from and damages our earth and even our own health. She has several upcoming events that she is hosting and otherwise supporting such as a clay handbuilding workshop, a community dinner, a film screening of Fashion Reimagined about doing fashion sustainably, and the big Hudson Valley Sustainable Fashion Week runway show in September. We end with a little self care chat, and I left feeling inspired and hopeful!Today's show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.Our show music is from Shana Falana!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org** Please: SUBSCRIBE to the pod and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND IThttp://iwantwhatshehas.org/podcastITUNES | SPOTIFYITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCAFollow:INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast

Depression, confused thinking, and emotional instability were symptoms many of us became all too familiar with; but imagine you had been in lockdown somewhere thousands of miles away from the nearest city, in perpetual darkness for 6-months of the year, and subjected to temperatures as low as -80 degrees celsius... Oh, and you're locked down with your co-workers...That shit might just make you want to kill somebody... right?See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

When countless lone travellers began to vanish without a trace along the Great Osage Trail in the early 1870s, the people of Labette County, Kansas, were gripped with fear.Soon enough, the county's residents realised that all the victims had one thing in common: they'd all visited the Bender Inn, a small cabin run by a mysterious German family. But by then it was too late. The Benders were gone with the wind – and as for who they were and where they went, well, that remained a mystery for over 140 years… until now.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Whether you live in a city apartment with only a small balcony or have a tiny backyard, there's no reason why you can't start an organic garden. In the latest episode of Organic Gardening for Beginners, I share some new strategies, experiences, and practical tips for maximizing you garden in small spaces.Small Space Organic GardeningSmall spaces can easily limit our garden dreams, but it doesn't have to be this way. One of my main tips in this episode is going vertical when you're short on space. This approach maximizes space by utilizing trellises, arbors, hanging baskets, and stackable towers. Even unconventional or upcycled materials like rain gutters can be used to create a vertical garden or container space. Another key tip for maximizing a small gardening space is the concept of companion planting. This technique allows you to get more from your garden by planting crops that benefit each other. For example, you can plant tomatoes with basil, which is said to enhance the flavor of the tomatoes and will fill out your pots completely as the plants share space.Upcycle and Use Unusual ContainersI've used shoe organizers, old wheelbarrow basins, and I even have rain gutters on my list as potential containers in a small space garden. You don't have to stick to pots and planters to find room for your plants!Stick to Dwarf and Compact VarietiesYou can avoid sprawling plants by growing compact or dwarf varieties of flowers and veggies like cucumber, nasturtium, sweet peas, zucchini, and even tomatoes. Compact varieties will free up a little more space for your plants and give you room to try new things. Tune in to this latest podcast episode and get all the deets and demos for your own small-space garden. Happy gardening!
