I sadly didn't understand it all coming to an end at that time as a kid, and now as a near 50 year old adult it seems just as hard but yet totally for different reasons. For the last six and a half years we have made a show about a show, and I for one have loved it! Anyway, enough with the sappiness. This is the final episode of the Dukes, John Schneider finally gets to write and direct something…..my High School Nova reappears one last time….and the General Lee actually gets hurt – from, a jump! The stunts are grossly limited as you'd expect from a cancelled show, but nonetheless the plot must go on. So…here's the plot: there's a Hazzard County talent show at the Boar's Nest and Rosco has a magician's act that supposedly makes Boss disappear. But when Boss actually gets kidnapped the Dukes must rescue him from two stone cold killers….so that Boss can get back in time to rescue Roscoe's broken heart. 10 Corndogs! THE POLITICS EPISODE. With an introduction as long as the Gettysburg Address, Chris explains (by using his beloved Cleveland Browns as an incredibly strained metaphor for political tribalism) why he has actively avoided political conversation on the podcast thus far - and why it's now finally time to analyze our nation's current political divide. Chris is joined by longtime 3Q3D cohost and political junkie Amanda Adams, as well as an actual living, breathing politican: Ohio State Representative for the 34th district of the Ohio House of Representatives, Casey Weinstein. Over drinks both sophisticated and unrefined, the group discusses the root causes of our political polarization and whether it's possible to have better political conversations - including how we might see people less through the lens of red or blue and instead, as human beings worthy of respect no matter their political persuasion. Drinks in this episode:Ole Smoky Mountain Apple Pie Moonshine >> Call Uncle Jessie and have them Duke boys pack up the General Lee with a few bottles of Hazzard County's finest 'shine for delivery before Election Day. Pour it over ice and taste that sweet, sweet freedom.Sidecar Cocktail >> 1 1/2 oz cognac; 3/4 oz orange liqueur (such as Cointreau); 3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice. Coat the rim of a coupe glass with sugar, and set aside. Add the cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.Strain into the prepared glass, garnish with an orange twist and toast to democracy. Baluarte Reposado Tequila Reserva Especial >> Fly to Mexico and be seduced into purchasing this delicious 100% agave tequila by a smooth talking employee of the airport Duty Free Shop. Pour into a cocktail glass over a large ice cube, garnish with a lime wedge while citing the Pledge of Allegiance. If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a (5 star?!) rating. Just some good old boys, never doing no harm .... I had the pleasure of chatting with Byron aka Coy Duke recently and very grateful he took time from his busy day (deep sea fishing!) to talk to me. Byron has just finished a faith based movie, and is flying to Ocala, Florida, for a reality based pilot. In October, he will be at Hazzard Fest. One of the “How did this happen” moments we talked about how Byron missed the Dukes of Hazzard audition, John Schneider crashed an audition and wound up being Bo Duke on Dukes of Hazzard. Why did Byron miss the audition? He was in Florida training to be an Eastern Airlines flight attendant. Eventually Eastern Airlines fell by the wayside ! The Dukes of Hazzard has become one of the most popular TV shows in the world and still has a worldwide following to this day. Byron developed a huge following as Coy Duke. This was the break Byron had been waiting for. Under contract with Warner Brothers, Byron went on to do numerous shows such as Murder She Wrote, In The Heat Of The Night, Vietnam WAR stories (A Mini Series) and various TV commercials and guest spots on numerous talk shows, and was the spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. Byron lives in California with wife, Krista, and their two kids. Byron continues to travel year round with the world famous General Lee Dodge Charger making appearances both nationally and abroad at Car Shows, Charity Benefits and Various Concerts and Events. Just like he did in Hazzard County, Byron is still "straightening the curves and flattening the hills" of his home town in his own General Lee (now has a new owner), and enjoys getting out and meeting the Dukes fans. He travels with his own photos to autograph, as well as his own hats and specially made "Coy Duke" t-shirts and tank tops and other Duke memorabilia. He also has been known to autograph various car parts on fan owned General Lees. Byron is a lot of fun and can't wait to see him in the near future. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/michelemarotta/support

The Dukes of Hazzard was one of many TV shows to be adapted in the early and mid-2000s. Some were good, most were not. Dukes falls into the latter category. But it shouldn't have. Helmed by Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar and starring Johnny Knoxville, Sean Williams Scott, Burt Reynolds, and Jessica Simpson (amongst many other notable names), the ingredients were there. Yet despite its talented cast and director, it's a painfully unfunny update that mostly runs on fumes. The script, which ranges between mediocre and outright awful, has no real ideas of its own. This movie desperately wants to be Starsky & Hutch, which isn't all that shocking since they apparently sought Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson for the lead roles. Even worse, Dukes recycles jokes from movies that came out over a decade before it. There simply is not enough moonshine in Georgia to make you forget how much better the films it's trying to emulate are. On the plus side, the care chases are pretty damn sweet. In the end, though, like the Confederate Flag that adorns the General Lee, the concept was better left to the scrap heap of history. So sit back, pop the top on a Drivin' and Cryin' Straight to Hell Session IPA from Burnt Hickory Brewery, and slide across the hood of the General Lee! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, Chumpzilla and the good old boys from the Double Turn Podcast are running moonshine down the backroads of Hazzard County! This Week’s Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – In the land of pointless TV show adaptations, Dukes ranks toward the bottom of the shine barrel. (00:00) The "Crazy" Cooter Trivia Challenge – Chumpzilla challenges us to a series of Dukes of Hazzard-themed questions—both from the show and movie. Idiocracy – We've Got What Listeners Crave

Hops and Box Office Flops

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 18, 2020 83:45

Idiocracy presents us with a glimpse of a fairly dismal future—one full of idiots and societal decay. That may sound depressing on the surface, but Idiocracy was written and directed by Mike Judge (creator of Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, and writer/director of Office Space). Thus, it is a satirical look at a not-so-bright America in the year 2505. As Judge's follow up to Office Space, one would assume it would've been highly touted. Not so. Fox, who distributed the movie due to a contractual obligation, essentially buried it. Their cowardice was spurred on by a fear of backlash from their sponsors. There were trailers for this movie that were never even screened; and Movie Phone—the bygone service that would detail what was playing and when—listed it as "Untitled Mike Judge Project." It's a shame. Idiocracy is quite funny in parts and is certainly not devoid of salient ideas—capitalism putting profits over people, for example. Though it may not stack up to the lofty heights set by its predecessor, it didn't deserve to flop—especially not on a budget of just $4 million (it grossed just $495,303). Despite its disappointing run in theaters, the movie has found an audience. It more than doubled its budget in DVD rentals and sales; and elements of it—Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho—have engrained themselves in the cultural zeitgeist. Plus, the movie's got shit loads of electrolytes, which plants crave! So sit back, jam open a Hop Stoopid Double IPA from Lagunitas Brewing Company with a square peg, and tune into Monday Night Rehabilitation! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. With his third studio album, the creative and unlikely rock star Elvis Costello took a turn from the punk style of his previous album and moved towards new wave music. Armed Forces was also the first album to name The Attractions as a part of the rock group fronted by Costello. Many of the tracks on this album reference British imperialism. Elvis Costello has a way of creating an upbeat sound while weaving in poignant, even depressing lyrics. This is a difficult artist to pin down. He follows his own muse, but finds a way to remain popular over the decades. Join us as we profile this breakthrough album from the end of the 70's decade. Moods for Modern The management company came up with the stage name Elvis Costello for Declan McManus. This song is about letting a girl go. "I let you into foreign fingers." Oliver's Army This track had a video which was aired on the first day of MTV's broadcast. The lyrics of this protest song are based off a trip that Costello took to Ireland. The Oliver referenced in the title is Oliver Cromwell. Accidents Will Happen This song would be considered the hit off the album, and references Costello's first marriage and the seductiveness of the rock life and an affair on the road. (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding A rare cover song was written by Nick Lowe, who also produced the album. Costello supposedly used the pseudonym "Napoleon Dynamite" in 1982. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: Theme from "The Dukes of Hazzard" by Waylon Jennings This TV show was particularly popular in Georgia, despite the fact that there is no Hazzard County in Georgia. STAFF PICKS: ”Hold the Line“ by Toto Bruce's staff pick highlights the iconic piano riff from the hit off Toto's debut album. The drum licks channel a "Sly and the Family Stone" groove. “Blue Morning, Blue Day” by Foreigner Rob chose this hit featuring Lou Graham's distinctive vocals with a well-balanced instrumental riff in a minor key. "But honey don't telephone, 'cause I won't be alone, I'll need someone to make me feel better." “Take Me To the River” by the Talking Heads Brian returns to the new wave theme. David Byrne fronts this New York City band covering a song originally written by Rev. Al Green. It was also covered by Bryan Ferry and Foghat. “Can't Keep a Good Man Down” by Eddie Money A driving deeper cut from "the money man" off his second album ends our staff picks with Wayne. Though not as popular as many tracks from his debut album, this song has a positive feel to it. INSTRUMENTAL COMEDY TRACK: “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor Bruce "calls an audible" for this week's concluding track...how, we’ll never know...

Dukes Review: Remember high school when they had the Sadie Hawkins dance and the girls had to ask the guys to go? This is the Hazzard County version of that, only with waaaaaaay more girls in shorts that you ever remembered in high school. And instead of a dance they're running the town for a day. Mostly this is an episode that seems to exist only to shoot film of girls walking in shorts. Anyway, here's the gist: Boss Hogg has been stealing from the county funds for years and (shocker) on Sadie Hogg day finds out he'll be audited. In a quick turn of brilliance he decides to make Daisy Duke in charge of the county funds, then has the bank robbed of said funds leaving Daisy liable. Even worse? Acting Deputy Miss Tizdale accidentally confuses Bo and Luke for leaving the bank with the money...when they were actually chasing the bank robbers. Fast forward 30 minutes and it does all get resolved with several more pairs of shorts. Fin. Still reading? Good for you! People who read a lot get far in life. Did you know that? OK, two big things to share in this one. First, we're now LIVE on Patreon and you can find it at https://www.patreon.com/kfshow! We have every desire to continue to do - and build - this show, and as we shared in the show....it hasn't gone quite to plan. But, a number of you have awesomely offered (and even asked) to support the show directly, and Patreon is the best way that we know how to do it. You can choose from the three levels of support you'd like to do and we'll be putting together something cool for those that choose to go this direct route! We're building this airline as we fly it (or as we jump it). Maybe this is the point where things can go to that next level. Here's the second big thing; we just finished our review of the final episode of Season 3 of the Dukes. This episode is likely both the first and lat time that Julius Caeser will be referenced as a connection to the plot of the story (not a joke). Apparently a vase was commissioned by Cleopatra, it ended up in Hazzard County, and a fancy-pants art collector brings Sgt Tackleberry from the Police Academy movies to come get it. This somehow leads to Daisy giving Cooter flowers for his birthday, Rosco and Boss jumping the General Lee backwards down a cliff, and everything working out great in the end. And a widow gets her mortgage paid in there somewhere too. 10-corndogs all around. MeUndies is also back to sponsor this episode...and just in comfort ball cuddling time! Trust us. Get the ones with the crotch pouch. DUKES REVIEW: Do you remember Tuck McElroy, Lead Singer of The Good 'Ol Boys and the driver in the Winnebago from the Blue Brothers? That's the bad guy in this episode. And unfortunately, that fact alone is pretty much the highlight of this one too. Anyway, here's the run down: Boss Hogg is kidnapped for ransom by an escaped convict, 'ol Tuck McElroy himself. The convict had been imprisoned after Boss had testified against him at a trial, and he swore his revenge...which is what this whole episode is about apparently. The convict steals the General Lee, puts Boss in the shotgun seat, buys a log of salami, and then hides in a shack until the Dukes challenge him to a race (weird race - it's the General Lee vs the Dukes, all of whom are riding horeseback). I made almost none of that up. 6 Corndogs. As you'll here in this episode, the Sponsorship Fastlane course is back! One student took the course last year and put in the hard work...and saw $10K in results back! Course is open until April 17, 2018. www.sponsorshipfastlane.com The post K&F Show #67: We're Live on Patreon and Our Final Season 3 Dukes Review: Episode 22, The Canterbury Crock first appeared on The Muscle Car Place.

**CONTENT WARNING** this episode will cover an ongoing criminal case involving alleged sexual crimes against children. We provide this notice so that listeners are aware of the subject matter. There are counties all over Canada within commuting distance to a city. Many have a history of political dominance by a clique, either family or business based. Influence spreads from City Hall to local media, local police, local events and up the political power structure as the voice of the community. Like Hazzard County where Boss Hogg has his fingers in everything that happens. As long as things seem to carry on, the illusion can continue as the clique reap the benefits. The federal riding of Simcoe-Grey is one such Hazzard County. What happens when a Mayor leaves office under a cloud, teams with a spurned clique, the contacts from their time as Boss Hogg, and takes over the local political body of a Federal party with the blessing of HQ? They install people in positions for loyalty not talent. Control matters, not ethics. But one of the minions goes off the rails. After a joint agency investigation, there is an arrest and charges laid regarding sexual child exploitation. The initial work of the police and the press is unhindered. They do their jobs as expected by citizens. But the more questions asked, the less answers given. The more assistance offered police, the less it is accepted. The more media is solicited, the less open they become. The further up the ladder of power it goes, the more resistance to the process increases. Never mind the lives destroyed, Amy MacPherson joins us to explain this Simcoe-Grey disaster, the secrecy and the priorities of power. Above all else. https://freethepresscanada.org/2017/03/05/political-child-sex-charges-in-kellie-leitchs-riding/

Hazzard County is plagued by a rash of semi-truck hijackings. To do their civic duty the Dukes modify Cletus' patrol car with a shot of nitrous oxide in order to give him a speed advantage on the crooks. At some point Boss Hogg gets involved to profit from the thefts, only to be (shockingly) double crossed by the crooks. Even zanier is that he believes that Cletus - working with the Dukes - were the ones to steal from him. Cletus is called stupid by everyone (even Waylon Jennings). Daisy poses on top of - and underneath - her car for passing by truck drivers. The General Lee jumps. Hijinks ensue. Our guest on this show is a 3D generalist. That’s a fancy term meaning Christian can do it all: modeling, texturing, rendering, lighting, animation, FX, effects and whatever else they throw at him. On the show we chat about the harsh realities of working in 3D, a rebel 1968 Dodge Charger from Hazzard County and get lost in the math of rendering. Evernote would like to update during the show. Oh noes! What is this 3 on the tree Chris speaks of? Dig the pic. Reminiscing about Christian’s first computer, maybe this and the Avid hardware that looked something like this. Christian says if you’re passionate enough you should be able to learn 3D on your own, though he studied at the Savannah College of Art & Design, SCAD. 3D tools & platforms mentioned by Christian, Maya, Unity & Oculus Rift. The conversation turns to Life of Pi and the effects company that made it, Rhythm & Hues. There’s a free, short documentary called Life After Pi, telling the story about how that successful movie bankrupted and shut down the company. Another large 3D company, Digital Domain has had similar problems to Rhythm & Hues. Chris has used the free & open source 3D application, Blender. Paul remembers using POV-ray many years ago to code his own 3D Enterprise. TinkerCAD is a 3D application you can use in your browser. Amazon’s failed Fire phone with 3D? Christian has been listening to podcasts from Sam Altman on How to Start a Startup. Silicon Valley reference! Montreal Sauce hasn’t had one of those in a while.
