He will be quiet after the story… What??? Now a lullaby? That's it you ungrateful little brat, I am leaving the room!Does it sound familiar? Let me tell you what helps me holding my limits during bedtime. Spoiler alert: it is confidence. Because you can be confident that you can hold a limit about not telling one more story. Because NOT telling a story is, well… really easy. And the best things is: peaceful parenting is just a by-product!If you would like to comment on this episode or if you would like to discuss it with me or with other listeners, go to my blog!Would you like your own questions to be answered on my show? Sleep training is one of the most demanding parenting situations. But it is especially important to stay positive and calm around bedtime, because being harsh can stress your children and make it more difficult for them to fall asleep. Today I talk about a study that showed that reducing clutter and chaos in our homes increases our ability to stick to positive parenting, thus it can probably make it easier for us to stay peaceful when setting limits around bedtime too! It was especially interesting for me to learn this as I enrolled in the Parenting Junkie's year-long parenting course, Present Play, where this month we experienced how reducing clutter and chaos improves the behaviour of our children too. I would say, less chaos = win-win :)You can find the dissertation I was talking about here (Suzanne Marijke Andeweg: Unravelling the effect of household chaos on parenting, 2021): https://scholarlypublications.universiteitleiden.nl/handle/1887/3147171If you would like to comment on this episode or if you would like to discuss it with me or with other listeners, go to my blog!Would you like your own questions to be answered on my show? Today I answer the following question:“Why is night settling different from naps? Got a 5mo who behaves differently settling for day naps and night wakings. He self-settles for nap time and bedtime, doesn't use a dummy just has a comforter. Night wakings are a different story! Last night he woke every 1.5 hours, usually it's every 2 hours and won't be settled by hand on chest, wobbling, dummy or comforter. He only wants to nurse, so I feed him. I'm so aware he doesn't need that many feeds, but I'm so tired I'll do anything to go back to sleep!” If you would like to comment on this episode or if you would like to discuss it with me or with other listeners, go to my blog!Would you like your own questions to be answered on my show? For this mum, "drowsy but awake” stopped working. When she puts her baby to bed drowsy, but awake, it takes forever for the baby to fall asleep (if at all), which makes him overtired. To avoid this, she puts him in the baby carrier, where he falls asleep easily, but then she is afraid that this will become a sleep crutch.
